I’m new to east bay and have recently downsized. I have a lot of women’s clothing, home goods, office supplies, and small furniture. I was looking for a women’s shelter ideally. I searched this topic Ester but all the results seemed old….?
The long ass phone tree is such a blatant way of discouraging reporting and frankly I don’t think these reports go anywhere. I’m sick of living somewhere that’s so overwhelmed by issues and incompetence that they can’t resolve issues outside of violent crimes - which I heard have a 3% solve rate? Fix your shit, Oakland
Hello! I am a very new renter as of the last few months. I started renting a room back in July in a house with a family of 4. The woman I was paying directly is the master tenant and owns the home. About 2 weeks ago, I gave a 30 day notice written and printed because I found a better living situation that had a move in date of December 1st. I officially moved out today and she informed me I won’t be getting my deposit back because I did not give the notice at the beginning of/end of the month. In our agreement, no where does it state that I have to give notice at these times. This was a month to month lease and I am hoping to receive my deposit back within 21 days but it seems unlikely from the passive aggression I got before i left. My deposit was $875.
I plan to go to the tenants rights union in oakland but wanted to know if anyone knows an answer to this situation or can point me in the right direction.
I love this guys videos and he shares some cool tree info and history in West Oakland
Thanks - looking for someone in Montclair / Piedmont Pines / Oakmore area
Where can I take oil painting classes as an adult beginner? I’m interested in arts/crafting generally and wanted to take a workshop/class for the fun of it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I live in Oakland (close to Montclaire) and use a very basic, indoor HDTV digital antenna. We get ok reception and lose it completely during rain.
Would a bigger, installed on the roof antenna give us more channels or solve the rain issue? Or is that juice not worth the squeeze?
Does anyone know what's going on with the midrise building at MacArthur and High St. They started construction like over a year ago and then it just stopped. I heard when they started it that it was going to be a retirement home. Now it appears like that isn't the case(?) Is it gonna be housing?
Hi! My guy Leo passed away in September and I’m just getting myself to go through his stuff. I’m planning on donating some items to Oakland Animal Services, but they can’t take all of his stuff. Is anyone in need? Would love to see it go to a new family!
Items include: -Basically new Maskeyon airline approved soft shell carrier -Gently used donut cave bed (medium size) -Lightweight foam doggie stairs -Wild One conditioning shampoo for dogs -Proplan Vet probiotics -Rain jacket
Mods: I read the rules and this doesn't seem to fall afoul, but if I was mistaken, I apologize in advance. :-)
I'm looking for a lawyer who will represent me against my landlord in an eviction case. Anybody have recommendations? I live in Oakland, which is why I'm asking here, so I'm hoping to find someone experienced with Oakland tenant law, including the Tenant Protection Ordinance.
Edit to add: I'm totally willing and able to pay for actual representation. A lot of lawyers are just doing wrongful eviction suits, which means they sue the LL after the tenant's been evicted. That's not where I'm at just yet.
Thanks!
just like the title states: looking for cute places to do work hahaha fireplace would be amazing but also not necessary. mainly looking for somewhere w cute cozy vibes and that is open today. something like morrison hall vibes at Cal would be cool but just seeing if anything comes to mind for anyone! thanks!
Lots of great local artists.
First, let me preface that I'm high rn and might be feeling strong emotions towards food. Anyways...
Today, I opened this post and saw someone recommend Desta which is up by Adams Point. I actually remembered this place, because my wife and I walked past it on the second day of its soft opening almost 2 years ago. We said we'd come back to check it out eventually. After seeing that post, I was inspired to finally take us there!
Well long-story short, my wife and I just went today and it was absolutely incredible. The food just absolutely filled our soul. And part of that might be because the owner (?) was so sweet to us. It felt like we were visiting her home and being served lunch.
My favorite part: A man from the neighborhood stopped by just to chat. The owner then showed us this tradition where you roast green coffee and carry the pan over to the guests to share the aroma. She even offered to pour us a cup even though she was making it for the friend who stopped by! As I'm typing this post, I tried to look for specifics and actually found there's a whole wikipedia article about this ceremony: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coffee_ceremony_of_Ethiopia_and_Eritrea
We just felt so warm and fuzzy from that whole interaction. I can't imagine having that experience anywhere else. I love Oakland man. Felt like we found the true meaning of Thanksgiving today.
There were some people working on the place months ago but nothing came of it.
I just got a notice in the mail that Walgreens on High Street is closing in Jan of 2025. Someone please tell me there is currently a plan for that's site's re-use, or redevelopment? I am afraid of this spot sitting vacant for years and years.
Just adopted a dog today. Any reasonably priced vets you’ve been happy with in Oakland / Berkeley?
I think Saturdays aren't a normal event night at bars, but was curious if anyone knows of a Sat night trivia?
Any recommendations? looks for a thule roof rack and box
I wanna get my partner a jinbei for Xmas (think a kimono top and pajama pants). I know the bay has a ton of linen/woven textile makers who make these Japanese-inspired garments, but now that I'm looking specifically for them, I'm having a hard time. I tried atomic garden and Maison d'etre. They had some, but nothing kimono style. Any one got any ideas?
My partner lives by the lake and likes to walk the lake most mornings. It seems like 9/10 she get catcalled by men but the last couple times when she say something back to the men she gets threatened with rape or being killed. It’s pretty fucked up in my opinion and all the people around witnessing it happen ignore it like nothing happened.
Above the LGBT center! EDIT: Actually, it was Thursday.
