Hey y’all! Quick Question:
My family and I are moving to the Bay Area at the end of the year, and we are looking at Oakland. People were super helpful in giving advice a couple months ago when I posted (thank you!), but I had a semantics question that only someone in the area can answer, it seems.
Dimond, Laurel, and Redwood Heights were all highly recommended for our situation, and we found a place close to that we love, but it is in Maxwell Park on the map. Is this a completely different area from the three listed above, or is this more of a cartography designation than a practical one?
Any input hella appreciated. Thanks! 😊
At first, I thought it was OPD, but after I turned the corner I saw it was the CHP. Today at Lakeshore and Trestle Glen….
They’re baaaack!
Thao conceded last night via Twitter as still early returns indicate the gap won't be closed. Meanwhile, nearly every candidate associated with the same recall is doing poorly and will likely lose, a closer look at the odd outcome that in itself will bear more study once the tallies are final. Hi everyone 😊 I’m looking for spaces in which I can meet supportive, nice people and also give back, learn something or do some soul searching. I’m in my late 20’s, Female, and it’s really, really, really hard to meet nice people outside of work, especially since I don’t drink. I’m not Christian or catholic, but I do believe in God and I’m very open minded spiritually, so any type of church that you feel would provide a positive environment is welcomed. 😊 I’d also love to volunteer, but I’m allergic to animals unfortunately. If you know of any workshops or classes in the community that you enjoy please tell me about them too. Thank you ahead of time. 😊
I found some earbuds on the ground near the ship at Lincoln Square Park in Oakland Chinatown at East Bay Bike Party last night.
Are they yours? Do they belong to your friend? Reach out so I can get them back to you!
Also, looking for recommendations on other places to post this (including bike related subs). Thanks!
Riding bart this morning past the west Oakland stop, seeing all the debris and after this week’s devastating election, I am looking for some way to make a tiny impact in my community. Anyone know where to start?
Im working in Martinez right off highway 4, living in Concord atm but moving because I cannot stand living in contra costa anymore.
So I make roughly $8,100 per month after taxes and I have 0 debts or payments to make other than the typical life expenses like basic small subscriptions and monthly insurance and whatever..also my healthcare and dental expenses are completely covered by the VA
I plan on moving my soon to be be fiancée in with me and I will be covering the rent and everything.
Based off of this, what price point should I be looking into for an apartment??? I was thinking $3000 at most but I was really hoping for some input. Thanks everyone
hit that point for better or worse, not sure how or where to start.
wondering if anyone’s been in a similar situation and worked with someone more than decent? I feel like this is in the realm of ambulance chasers and don’t wanna work with someone crappy, granted I can probably only afford so much to retain one.
Hello everyone. I need really good advice thats why i am writing in here. So i move to this apartment in first of the August and August 6th was the first time i spot the cockroach. Ever since then they call multiple times pf pest control but until today i still see cockroach. What should i do ? I really dont wanna live with cockroach and i am really stressed. Please gave me some advice and thank you everyone. Sorry if i make some grammar mistakes because its my second language. Appreciate every comment.
He organized and paid for a majority of the team that went around and collected signatures from angry citizens in Oakland and Alameda county who were fed up with how things were being run.
Thao’s campaign also focused heavily on hedge fund manager Philip Dreyfuss, whose political contributions made up the bulk of recall funding.
Thao accused Dreyfuss in an open letter of trying to “buy our city government.”
But did he do us a favor? Does anyone feel like Oakland is safer and cleaner in the last two years?

Remember the big kerfluffle of the subpoenas issued by the Oakland PEC against everyone connected in any way to the Mayor Thao recall? Even the attorneys?
The judge ruled the subpoenas were unconstitutional for a slew of reasons. Then she recused herself.
The PEC amended its subpoenas, drastically limiting their scope.
Then, the PEC dropped its own court challenge and downgraded the whole thing to just another PEC investigation, joining a long list of other pending investigations.
Their whole case hinged on one email sent to potential donors, telling them their contributions might not be reportable. A subsequent email clarified that cumulative donations <100 were not reportable. Which is correct.
Much was made of the independence of the PEC.
What wasn't mentioned in the publicity was that the elected city attorney decided whether to pay outside counsel to assist the PEC. Barbara Parker and her designated successor, Ryan Richardson, were both beneficiaries of the support of the same muni unions opposed to Mayor Thao's recall.
Couldn't Oakland do what Cleveland did after the Browns semi-moved to Baltimore (becoming the Ravens) and kept the team name, logo, training facility, and history while Fisher can establish an entirely new team in Las Vegas with all the A's personnel? That way, he can keep all his contracts and go nuts however he likes while Oakland doesn't have to suffer with having no sports teams and can maybe go on hiatus instead while sorting out its issues.
Hi guys!
I'll most likely be moving from Florida to Oakland at the end of the year with my partner. We're both (basically) 27, and we'll be in the North Oakland area. What are some things to keep in mind, some things we have to do or see, some things to keep an eye out for even..
I've visited the bay area several times and I usually stay in Oakland, so I would say I'm at least a tiny bit familiar with some of its good and bad parts, but visiting somewhere is [obviously] a whole hell of a lot different from living there. I have a very close friend that lives here (thank god) but I don't want to feel like I have to rely on her for everything, she's got a life too! Any suggestions? Thanks!
I for one am very worried about being deported even though I'm a Legal Immigrant, I am also worried about how it will affect everyone in our city. How is everyone else taking this?
I'm curious how folks are meeting their dating/romantic partners these days, especially in the 35-45 age range, off the apps.
I am a reporter covering business and economy. Oakland International Airport announced that, starting November 1, Viva Aerobus will offer nonstop flights to Monterrey three times a week—on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Additionally, daily nonstop flights to Guadalajara will begin on December 2.
If anyone is planning to fly to Monterrey or Guadalajara from Oakland, or has done so in the past and would like to share their experience for a potential story about whether this impacts any frequent flyers to these destinations--feel free to comment. :)
Gotta love Fairyland.

Hi everyone,
I’m getting ready to sell my house and I’m searching for low commission realtors. I’d like to save on fees while still receiving great service, so I’m hoping to find an agent or brokerage that offers competitive rates without compromising on service quality.
Has anyone worked with agents or agencies offering lower commissions? I’d love to hear your recommendations or personal stories!

I have some friends heading to downtown today. They are really into the history of the Black panthers and thought it would be cool to go to the park this afternoon. But I haven’t been in awhile. How’s it looking? Is it cool to go there lately or is it jacked up right now?
CORRECTION: the stat is all of CA, not Oakland. Every other result on that page was for Oakland, and it's only in the fine print.... am curious though for the final Oakland %
=====
This is showing him with 39.8% - can that be right?

I'm apparently living in a bubble - was figuring he'd maybe get 10-15 tops here.
Curious to ask some questions, understand the deeper reasons Oaklanders have for those votes.
3,391 to 3,391. There are probably still votes to count. The other two times I checked it was a difference of 10 and a difference of 4.
When I ran for Auditor in 2014, a campaign consultant told me, matter of factly, that the best-qualified candidate rarely wins.
We just got a good illustration of that, despite what my Trump supporter friends would say.
A year after my opponent, in 2014, won the Auditor position with the support of all the city unions and the County Dem endorsement, the East Bay Express reported how she ordered her Black Asst Auditor to get on his knees to spot clean her office carpet. (search reddit for Who's Watching the Auditor, seven years ago.)
Zac certainly isn’t like that, but it’s truly putting a well-intentioned fox in the henhouse of a city that’s seriously insolvent with one of the highest property crime rates in the nation. This union leader helped get us wannabe defunder council members such as Fife, Kaplan, Kalb, and Bas. Councilmembers who approved a seriously unsustainable budget in June. Zac said at the Wellstone forum that he would have voted for that budget. Three council members, including Ramachandran, voted no.
If you like their agendas and have no reason to be concerned about the massive structural deficit, you will be happy with Zac.
Me, I'd say bankruptcy is not progressive.
