What to do at an ICE checkpoint, especially if you're white and/or feel the need to jam up the works

"The most important acts of resistance are the small ones."
This is taken from the Punk subreddit, please share.
The following is making the rounds:
This is getting too real friends. We need to be prepared for us and for the diverse community around us.
Here's the deal:
🔘 Border Patrol can verify citizenship within 100 miles of a border or "external boundary." This includes coastlines, so NYC, Philadelphia, and all of NJ, and all of Florida are within the 100-mile zone.
🔘 Border patrol can only ask brief questions about citizenship, and they cannot hold you for an extended time without cause.
🔘 You always have the right to remain silent. You do not need to answer their questions.
🔘 WITH THAT SAID, IF YOU ARE A BORN CITIZEN OF THE UNITED STATES AND ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE WHITE, YOU NEED TO SPEAK THE FUCK UP.
🔘 The most important acts of resistance are the small ones. Make it difficult and uncomfortable for ICE agents to do their jobs. They are counting on citizens to turn a blind eye and allow them to deport undocumented citizens without challenge. Disabuse of that notion.
🔘 If you are on a train, bus, or anything else and ICE or CBP boards, you need to stand up and loudly let everyone know that they have the right to remain silent or only answer questions in the presence of an attorney, no matter their citizenship or immigration status. There have been numerous reports that confronting the agents in this way has caused them to leave without verifying citizenship. THIS CAN SAVE LIVES. 🙌
🔘 If you see anyone being held up by immigration, loudly ask if they are being detained and if they are free to go.
🔘 Immigration officers cannot detain anyone without reasonable suspicion, an agent must have specific facts about you that make it reasonable to believe you are committing or committed, a violation of immigration law or federal law. If an agent detains you, you can ask for their basis for reasonable suspicion, and they should tell you.
🔘 Always say no to a search and let everyone know that they can and should refuse consent to a search.
🔘 They cannot search or arrest anyone without facts about that make it probable that they are committing, or committed, a violation of immigration law or federal law.
🔘 Silence alone meets neither of these standards. Nor does race or ethnicity alone suffice for either probable cause or reasonable suspicion
🔘 white citizens, you have a level of privilege which protects us from retaliation from ICE for being "rude" and making a scene, which makes it our DUTY to speak up and make sure people without the same privilege know their rights. GET LOUD. YELL. YELL IN SPANISH IF YOU KNOW IT. LET PEOPLE KNOW THEY DON'T HAVE TO SAY SHIT. MAKE ICE UNCOMFORTABLE. THROW SAND IN THE GEARS OF WHITE SUPREMACY.
You can also slow things up by asking lots of questions and being politely "nosy." Channel your aunt Muriel who asks lots of pointless questions with irrelevant details.
⭐️ Bonus info- ⭐️ 🔘It is perfectly legal to record immigration agents as long as you are not on government property or at a port of entry. If your train/bus gets boarded, pull your phone out and start videotaping immediately.
🔘 If you are detained or see someone getting detained, get the agent's name, number, and any other identifying information. Get it on video if possible.
🔘 Contact the ACLU or your local Immigrant/Migrant support orgs if you see someone's rights being violated.

Looking to install a seismic gas shut off valve, does anyone have recommendations for a company to go with?
I've got friends visiting with kids - 2-3 y/o range.
OMCA is planned for tomorrow since free. Any ideas for today that are rain friendly? Plus if within the downtown Oakland area/bus or Bart friendly. Thanks!
I just wanted to know if parking on your own lawn is prohibited in our city , as I've just moved to my father's house and since he parks in the driveway and the curb parkings are taken by neighbors he tells me to just park in the lawn area (there's no grass, just gravel). A lot of neighbors do the same thing in their yard and we even had cops at our place that said nothing about it so I was just wondering if this is normal here or if 1 day I'll wake up with a notice on my car...
New to photography sorry about the last pic…#downtownoakland
50 states. 50 protests. 1 day. Here is California’s flyer! Please share and be safe!
While this is happening, committees are being cancelled this month for lack of items to consider, and the second Council meeting in a row without a non-consent calendar, will take place on Tuesday.
I love to do my hair in fun rainbow colors, I usually do it at home myself but wanted to treat myself with getting it done professionally—just hoping not to spend an obscene amount. Any recommendations on someone who specializes in less traditional creative colors, and doesn’t charge a crazy amount? I know from past experience it will cost at least around $200, (my hair is a bit past shoulder length, dark blonde that would need to be lightened a couple levels at the roots) but hoping to find a solid salon that isn’t insanely expensive. Bonus if they do good cuts too! (which I know will increase the total $ to more like 300 lol).
Hi, I am looking at these apartments in Oakland:
Is anyone familiar with these places? Do you recommend?
Ideally I’m looking for a 1bed apartment in Oakland, close to BART too. I have a car but I like to take walks. Not so interested in night life.
Hi all,
I’m a service coordinator for a senior affordable housing complex in East Oakland. With Black History Month just around the corner, I’m looking for local artists and poets to help celebrate and honor the month with our residents. I’m planning a live art and poetry event towards the end of February at our community center.
If you're interested, please DM me. Serious inquiries only, please.
P.S. We are a low-budget community, so we’re hoping to find affordable options.
Thanks!
I see in the comments often when I surf through the Oakland sub that Oakland roads is "lawless" and police never pull anyone over. I've never gotten pulled over my entire life being here so I can't say otherwise. But I'm a safe driver and these days I WFH so I don't go out that much anymore.
Last news I really kept up with was Gavin Newsom dispatching CHP to help Oakland. And I heard they were ticketing driving law violators more? But how's it going? Is the going word still that police do not stop anyone for traffic violations still?
Imo, driving hasn't gotten better. Just the other day some people running from the police, squeezed in between mine and another via the center divider. But I mostly drive in deeper East Oakland.
Hey y'all, I know there are lots of posts for recommendations (I will take them as well) but I was just wondering what y'all pay for a haircut nowadays. I know prices are soaring on everything, but I just wanna know if I am overpaying or not. Someone recommended a place to me and it's $175 for a new client haircut. I tried another place that was $120 before tip and they did a wack job. Then I tried out a barber where it was 75 but no matter what I asked for I always got the same short cut that looked nothing like what I requested (something I literally couldve done at home on my own for free).
Anyway, what's your experience? What kind of cut do you get and how much does it cost (before tip). Also, if it matters, I'm queer so the gender/length pricing isn't a huge factor, but I go short. I just want a decent haircut at a reasonable price. I'm kinda spooked that I'll end up paying a shit ton for another shitty haircut.
Thanks in advance.
If you're a progressive, she's your dream candidate.
If you're a moderate, she's a more personable version of Nikki Bas, Caroll Fife Rebecca Kaplan, and Sheng Thao.
She was in front of a friendly group and candid.
Her section starts at about the 26-minute mark.
CM and Acting Mayor Kevin Jenkins started the session. When asked if OPD overtime can be reduced, he said it can be better managed, but he doesn't expect significant reductions because we don't have enough cops. He also said paying OT is cheaper than hiring more cops because we save on benefits and don't have to pay signing bonuses. Because of a national shortage of police, he did not hold out any hope of reducing police salaries. He said we could manage the OT better.
Without giving any numbers, he said he and Zak Unger were working with the City staff to collect unspecified amounts of unpaid biz taxes from landlords and corporations. (I believe that's nonsense.)
On the good side, she's fired up to run for mayor.
On the not-good side, she admitted she had no management experience.
She displayed her ignorance of Oakland by calling Ceasefire an "organization" instead of a city-run program that combines social services with OPD threats.
She acknowledges the significant differences of opinions on achieving a safer Oakland. But at the same time, she suggested that much of it was "perception," not reality.
I didn't hear her say anything about hiring more cops, pursuit policy, etc., but I did hear a lot about fixing the underlying causes of crime.
She didn't even mention community policing. A Wellstone member had to suggest that, but had to blame OPOA for not having it. There is nothing about not having enough cops to staff it. Sheesh.
She candidly stated that she would not be able to get any money from the Federal government, but she'll try to get what's already appropriated for the following year. She opined that Trump would succeed in eliminating many previously approved grants to cities and states, referring to a 1960's? law that would allow him to do that.
Wellstone member asked if she would let Wellstone use her campaign for their push to organize Oakland voters for the progressives. Barbara Lee welcomed that goal.
Hey y'all, looking for good places to go on a date that aren't loud bars! I am kind of a homebody looking to date other homebodies but without the risk of randos knowing my address, so anyone have any recs on where to go? Places that are quieter and good for convo!
What's up yall,
Curious if anyone has an idea where I can donate a full set of used cook ware? Is goodwill the best bet?
Thanks!
I’m seeing a lot of rentals available at ArtHaus in various locations. And I am looking for a new place. But also I’ve been in Oakland long enough to remember what these neighborhoods looked like before ArtHaus. Am I correct in my understanding that these are the developers that bought out and demolished entire blocks of houses in Oakland? And who lives in these places? Is it normal locals or gentrification? Are these places supposed to be artist lofts?
I just looked at my statement:
This month's charge for trash is $234.46 for 12/1 to 12/31. The previous amount was $187.86 (11/1-11/30).
This is a 2 bedroom apartment in Uptown, two occupants.
Are these amounts in anyway reasonable / comparable to other Oakland apartments?

Are there any stores in Oakland that sell imported Guatemalan woven fabric?
I’m taking a women’s intro to pistols class this Sunday but I’m nervous about going alone. Anyone want to make friends and come with?
Edit: okay I’ve had numerous folks ask where but for future reference so I’ll put here - the class is at Guns, Fishing, and other stuff in Vacaville for $150, 9am to 1pm and it looks like they do it at least once a month. They also have other, more advanced classes for those that are interested
I’ll also be sure to update here with my experience!
