I had to transfer my credit card to a new phone to pay for OMNY rides and to my dismay, all my previous rides are negated so I had to restart reaching my 'cap' all over again. Apparently based on their fine print, you've to pay using the same device and not just the same card. I thought that was very sneaky, like for people who got a new phone or need to use a watch instead of a phone. Wasted so much money because of this non sensible rule.
It was all good for two weeks, but now it's saying I've hit the ride limit after the first swipe. I'm not referring to the freebie, I'm trying to pay for two admissions.
I have the Omny card connected to a credit card with automatic payments.
Hello. I used my credit card to pay for two journeys using the contactless system. So I didn’t get a receipt, which I will need to claim expenses from my employer. I have created an online account and added my payment card and I see that the “Trips” and “Charges” screens are disabled. I have emailed OMNY customer support but does anyone have any ideas if I can speed this up (ie get receipts another way)?
all of a sudden my apple pay tap isnt working at the subways. but the card itself works so its not my card issue. any idea how to fix this? Rn i am just using a different card on my apple pay but its a travel card and id rather not use that.
Somebody please explain what's OMNY card and how it works and is it better than metro card??Please explain like you're explaining it to a 10 year old. I'm visiting new York for a month and I'd be using subway or bus for transportation. Thanks in advance.
I found an OMNY on the sidewalk today in Brooklyn. Looked up the number and it has a balance, although I don't believe that it has an auto-reload on it.
Any way to return this to its owner? I don't see a "Mail this Card..." listing on the back.
I usually pay with Google Wallet and a bank card. I know I can bring upa statement once my bank account is updated. I'm looking for something I can show someone on the spot as proof payment.
My Omny online account shows my credit card as the Travel Card. Can I use that card with Android Pay and get the senior discount associated with my Omny account? I'm asking because the number of the physical card is different than the virtual number showing on the digital wallet.
Has anyone else’s student omny card suddenly stop working recently? It’s been fine for a month and all of a sudden it just says “card not accepted” on my usual bus and train routes. Nothing’s changed on my end and the card is still in great condition, but it stopped working since last weekend.
I was going to wait a bit to see if it fixes itself before taking it back to my school. Please lmk if you’ve had a similar experience!!
I received email with subject "Reload your OMNY card to continue riding". Had to pay off a balance, then the card was re-activated. But as the OMNY.info site notes, the card is set to "Reload When balance falls below $10.00".
after i did the laundry i found my omny card in one of my pants today after i washed it and it looks like this. my school gave it to me in a plastic cover with the actual card inside the cover so maybe it will work but i want to know if it could still work and not have to ask the school for a new one
Does someone know why these cards were made to expire?
I cannot think of a good reason why these cards expire - it just creates more plastic waste, makes me buy another card for $1, or if I have funds in the card, I have to worry about transferring it before it expires.
My wife got a Physical omny card and we are wondering if we can link the same card in our separate accounts
is it possible?
Thanks for the answers in advance.
I'm having terrible trouble with OMNY the past month. My card that I always pay with using apple pay has stopped being accepted. It works in every other place except OMNY machines in the subway. To try to remedy this, I've created an account and am trying to add the card to my wallet on the OMNY website. However, whether I am on mobile or desktop, I cannot submit the form to add the card. I enter the card number and am presented with a message below the field that says "Please ensure that your card number is entered correctly". Basically it's a message telling me there's a typo in my card number. But there isn't! I have re-entered it dozens of times, spaces, no spaces, copy-pasted from my password keeper, entered manually- the form is determined not to take the card! I'm not even submitting the form and getting an error message back- there is some sort of problem with the submission form itself that is not recognizing my card as valid. Incredibly frustrating to say the least. Is there some sort of known issue with this, or some suggested workaround? I feel like I'm getting pretty unlucky with these system glitches and I would love to know how others have solved for this
I only put about $30 on my FSA transit card from work each month, which i inevitably end up running out of money so when it happens (and i don't know i'm out), i tap, it says card cannot be accepted and goes red, and then i use another regular debit or credit card to let me through.
i am just realizing about these recovery charges - does this mean everytime my card is declined, even though i end up paying with another card, eventually my other card gets charged?
i also saw i got charged like 7x on one day once.
it all seems too annoying to try to fight but i am trying to figure out how to not spend any extra money on this thing than necessary.
How does the 12 rides cap works if I use the same credit card for two people one after another? We already made 14 rides (taps) with the same card and I thought I won't be charged after the 12th. Do we have to wait between two taps or it does not matter? I do knot know if there is any restriction for tapping for 2 persons for the same ride. P.S. we started using it on Monday, today is Tuesday and I guess it is not already restarted. And I have not registered to OMNY web to track my rides, but I think it is not mandatory.
I was over charged 11 times. I caught it because I was charged 9 times in one day. I see how they can make money off customers because people may not catch it, or it's not worth the hassle to get the refund since you'll be on the phone for almost an hour. The customer service agent said I held my phone too long, and the other time the system thought my card was declined, so charged me at a later date. Basically they'll have an excuse blaming the customer for their faulty system.
i got an omny card, went to add it to my wallet.
not an option. is the mta run by walmart now or something?
I know no one here is customer service but I am hoping maybe someone has experienced this same problem and knows how to fix it.
My debit card expired, like they do. And when I tried to update it in the travel cards I realized there's no way to just update the expiration date and so I removed the expired one and added my new one. And it reverted back to the expired card, even though I manually entered the number and the new expiration date and new security code.
Is the payment methods tab the same thing? It reads like it's not for tapping at turnstiles. I tried emailing last week and no one has responded and when I tried calling today there were 51 god damn calls ahead of mine. I first tried to use the option for a call back but after an hour of waiting I called back and there were 57 calls ahead of mine. So I waited on hold for an hour and fifteen minutes before I just gave up.
I tried looking it up and it looks like the payment methods section is just for refilling your OMNY card, but I don't want to buy a fucking OMNY card when the whole point was that you can tap your own debit or credit card or phone. What the fuck am I supposed to do?
Hi everyone. So I use my Apple Cash to pay for MTA. Last week, my card declined for some reason (there is enough balance in it) and now every thing I tap, it says “Card Not Accepted”. I called OMNY and they said the payment did go through and my card does not seem to be suspended. I try again this morning and same issue. :(
What should I do?
P2 and I signed up for the senior reduced-rate subway program and had to register different cards on OMNY, since it would not allow us to register the same card twice. If we each pay with the same credit card, one right after the other, will we both get the discount or will the second person be at full fare? Obviously, I could use the second card that I registered, but I get a better rebate on one of the cards (not that it's a big deal at $1.40).
In town with my family of four, and counted on being able to use same payment four times for everyone to ride. So far it’s failed to work after the first tap any time I try it. Over three days, I have tried 2 different bank cards and 2 phones over 3 subway rides and 4 buses and EVERY TIME I get “Ride Limit Exceeded” on the second tap. On the buses the drivers just wave us in. I ask if I’m doing something wrong but they just say “step in”.
So AM I doing something wrong (waiting 10+seconds between taps)? Is this just a known system failure? Do I HAVE to buy a card?
I have found the advice on this sub very helpful but somewhat inconsistent. This is just to recount my own experience which may not be typical.
Late last night (Tuesday night) I received an email from OMNY saying "We were unable to process your fare payment due to an issue with your travel card. You cannot use this card to ride with OMNY until the issue is resolved." This was a bit weird as I had not tapped with this card (a Visa credit card) since last Thursday. When I logged onto OMNY I saw there was a $2.90 balance outstanding. When I hit the button to to retry payment using the same card, it failed with an option to use another card. I was able to pay the balance using a different credit card. But the card still showed on the website as "Action Needed" with "You will not be able to use this personal device to ride on OMNY until you reactivate it."
Some people have reported that they were able to reactivate the card by tapping it, so I tried did this at a subway station, tapping twice with a 60-second gap in between. No luck. Both taps were rejected. I then called OMNY customer service and spoke to "Monica". I did not recount the whole story but simply stated that I had tried tapping multiple times today without success. I gave her my OMNY account number; she looked it up and said "Oh yes your card is closed. I will reactivate it for you." A few seconds later while I was still on the phone I received an email saying "Your travel card is now active and ready for use with OMNY."
So it looks like it IS possible for them to reactivate your card for you if all else fails. Insist on it, or call back hoping for a more competent agent like Monica.
yesterday morning, when i tried to use my apple wallet wells fargo card to pay at a turnstile, there was an error that read "card not accepted." i tried several more times, only for the card to get continuously rejected, so i just hopped. since then, i have genuinely wasted 5 hours of my life trying to get this resolved by MTA, OMNY and my bank in the last 2 days. i disputed the several $2.90 charges that were made and not refunded when my card rejected, in addition to a $133 transaction fail after i attempted to get an unlimited metro card. i have called OMNY 3 times since then. and their advice? to register my card as a travel card. i did that. now i have a negative balance of $2.90 on the card and it won't let me use any other method of payment to pay, even though the card continues to be rejected. if i don't pay the negative balance, i cannot use the card for the train. i have talked to multiple customer service agents and even a supervisor, getting beyond the point of frustration, because even they cannot get rid of the balance on their end. now they advise me to just use a different card. is anyone else having this issue? is there ANYTHING else i haven't tried that can be done?
Was charged 20 bucks to get on the other day and still haven't received a refund after leaving my name and number for a call back. If I do a charge back with my bank will the MTA not let me use my phone anymore?
What card do I need to pay for Metro, bus and ferry? I am only there for 5 days, but I am considering whether it's cheaper to buy some sort of pass or just tap my credit card.
Thanks!
OMNY is fucking idiots. They charged me 54.3$. Fucking support is not working! You are stupid people. Customer support just gave me envelope with form of Mta card. R u guys kidding me????
Sitting on my couch, I get an alert just now saying $1.45 just charged for ONMY. Can't get through to OMNY - 75 people on hold ahead of me - AND going to web site says you can no longer see history or charges.
I called my bank and cancelled my card.
What is going on? Anybody else?
