I recharged my omny card 20$ after seeing “ride limit exceeded”. Is it possible to have a refund? Where/how to ask? I can’t call because my sim is traffic only, no calls.
I really loved EasyPay Metrocard.
I never had to think.
I had transaction history and trip history.
Easy to log in and suspend monthly vs. not monthly activity.
Got a real person whenever I called.
I am extremely sad to see it go as it discontinues in the next few weeks. OMNY is a mess and not even fully rolled out to MetroCard adjacent lines like the Westchester Bee-Line buses. I don't understand why/how it can be such a mess. It should not be that hard.
I'm having issues with the OMNY cards I use at work. I work with live performers who perform out on the street, they come to the office, get into costume, and then all head out individually (5-7 performers are out at a time). We've been using these cards for over a year and just now in the last month or 2 we've been having issues of our cards not working. I maintain a balance on each one (they're set to auto reload), is it because we are swiping too many cards from the same account all very close together? Any help/advice/knowledge would be wonderful! Thank you!
I made a previous post that as of Nov 1, the only way to change which travel card received the reduced fare benefit was to go in-person to a customer service location, which is absurd - especially since it requires seniors to go and potentially pay full-fare for the trip. (To note, this does not affect people who have not already switched their reduced fare benefit to OMNY - those people will apparently be getting a reduced-fare OMNY card in the mail.)
Well, I wasted my time today to go do that at a customer service center. However, that didn't even work! I was told that because of system transition, I couldn't even accomplish it in-person. When I called OMNY customer care (again), I found out that the only location that could do anything until this "transition" was complete is the 3 Stone St. customer service center. Apparently everything has basically been put on hold so that they can get these new reduced-fare OMNY cards mailed out...but that leaves anyone that has already switched their benefit to OMNY in the lurch - especially because they won't even be receiving these new cards either.
Customer care is very nice, but ulitmately it seems like they aren't told anything! It seems as if their best guess is as good as mine as to when I can service my account remotely again (if ever) or even go to a different customer service center other than the main one.
This system is such a mess and MTA should be absolutely ashamed. I encourage everyone to leave feedback on the OMNY website or MTA website.
It was still working in the morning while I was going to Staten Island, but all of sudden it doesn’t work when I got back from Staten Island to downtown manhatten.
The kind station worker just let us in saying it was a problem with OMNY. Is there anything I should do?
Should I be worried about someone potentially skimming my card or is OMNY stealing from me?
I usually always get charged immediately after I tap at the turnstile, sometimes it’s delayed by like an hour or so.
I commute and work hybrid in NYC but haven’t been in over a week when I got a Chase notification the other night for a $2.90 charge.
I locked my debit card and am considering getting it replaced, because what the fuck?
I started using a different card this week when I went in, because I locked the other one, and now I have an additional $1 charge for every $2.90 charge, but they’re still pending so hopefully they fall off. If they don’t I’m gonna start using a preloaded metro card again 😠
Lately I've noticed that pass-back is not working as intended at certain stations. Omny's policy states:
The same pass-back rules that apply to MetroCard also apply to OMNY. You can tap and pay for yourself and up to 3 additional riders with the same payment method on a single trip.
But when I try to do this at Kosciuszko station, I get a "Ride Limit Exceeded" on the second tap. If I try the same thing at, say, 63rd and Lex, it works without an issue. Anyone experience the same thing? I tried emailing Omny support but ... silence.
I'm experiencing an issue with my OMNY card: it's stuck in the reload stage. Despite opening multiple support tickets, the problem persists. I can manually add funds but cannot cancel or modify the auto-reload options.
My family of four is vacationing the city this week. I tried to do my due diligence and read up on how to best operate the subway so that I can save money where possible.
My understanding is that with the money card (with more than enough loaded on it), I should be able to swipe for myself and “pass back” three more times.
However, when I swipe my money card, after one or two swipes it tells me “ride limit exceeded” and I end up having to switch to different payment method.
Am I understanding this wrong? Do I just need to buy an Omni card for each one of us?
I'm visiting New York from Vancouver, and today was my first time using the bus system. I had read several posts suggesting I could just use my contactless credit card (tap), but today I boarded a bus with a zone-based system. If I tap in when getting on, how does it know how many zones I've traveled and charge me the correct amount, especially since I don't need to tap out?
As of Nov. 1, in order to enroll an OMNY account in reduced fare/senior fare program, you must go in-person to a customer service center, of which there are only 15 throughout NYC, plus the main one on Stone St. To make matters ridiculous, though, you now need to go to one of these centers to even switch which card/device gets the senior discount!
It used to be hard enough to have to call in for something that could easily be made self-service, but now they have gone a step backwards and require an in-person visit. I truly am dumbfounded, and I want to find a public MTA meeting, so I can blow them up.
Who thought this was a good idea? To make seniors have to travel somewhere in-person to switch their credit card? For example, if it is stolen, it won't automatically update in their system; ditto if Apple Pay causes the OMNY system to deactivate the device and put the reduced fare on the physical card instead. And until they do so, they need to pay full fare! To even get to the customer service center, they would have to pay full fare if they are taking transit there. It is insane!
I would like to submit strong feedback because this just simply isn't right. They should be providing more self-service options rather than regressing and making seniors, an already vulnerable population, have to do things in-person - as if they don't have anything better to do with their time.
Update 11/19: It gets even worse...apparently the only location that can actually do anything is 3 Stone St. customer care reps have just been informed. I wasted my time going to one of the other 15 centers, and they told me (very nicely!) to kick rocks. The incompetence is staggering.
On the morning of October 21, I got on the train by using my phone and Samsung Wallet at the OMNY turnstile reader, as I had been doing for the past several years.
On that afternoon, however, the attempt to use that method resulted in the error message "card not accepted". Thinking that this must be an issue with Samsung Wallet, I called Samsung. I was told to remove my card from Samsung Wallet and then re-add it. I did that. I was also told to check the phone setting "NFC and contactless payments" (it was activated), and then to restart my phone. This did not help.
I then began suspecting that the problem had to do with the card itself, so I called my bank. The bank confirmed that the card is fine. And, indeed, when I used the card itself at the OMNY reader, the payment was accepted.
Later on, I used Samsung Wallet to pay for something at a supermarket; this was the first time that I had used Samsung Wallet anywhere other than the transit system. This established that there was no problem with Samsung Wallet or with my card.
So this leaves OMNY. I called OMNY, and they say that they are getting invalid information from my phone. They will not explain why this began on the afternoon of October 21, even though everything had been working correctly few hours earlier and nothing changed on that day. They claim that there must be some problem with either my digital wallet (Samsung Wallet) or my bank card — neither of which is true. I even had OMNY and the bank on the phone together, and the bank's representative said unequivocally that my card is good.
Samsung told me that, if I remove and re-add my card to the digital wallet, this would change the "digital card number" (as opposed to the number written on the card itself). I did that today for the second time, but that did not change the "digital card number".
OMNY told me on October 21 that they were "escalating" the problem, and that a supervisor would call me back within a few days. It's been three weeks, and no one has called me. I have called in several times with my ticket number, and I am essentially told to get lost; all they'll say is that their IT people are looking into this, and that a supervisor will call me when there is an answer. I strongly suspect that this means I will never get any call from them.
This is a huge problem for me. Normally I keep my card secured in my bag, especially after I was pick-pocketed once. But now I have to keep my card in my pocket, and take it out twice a day in order to get on the subway.
Has anyone here had any experience similar to this? If so, how did you handle it?
Also, does anyone know how to reach either a supervisor or an IT person at OMNY?
Hey just wanted to ask is OMNY down tonight for students ? I used it earlier for the bus and train but on my way back it declined twice which never happened to me . I have class tomorrow and wouldn’t want to run into the same issue
I had to transfer my credit card to a new phone to pay for OMNY rides and to my dismay, all my previous rides are negated so I had to restart reaching my 'cap' all over again. Apparently based on their fine print, you've to pay using the same device and not just the same card. I thought that was very sneaky, like for people who got a new phone or need to use a watch instead of a phone. Wasted so much money because of this non sensible rule.
It was all good for two weeks, but now it's saying I've hit the ride limit after the first swipe. I'm not referring to the freebie, I'm trying to pay for two admissions.
I have the Omny card connected to a credit card with automatic payments.
Hello. I used my credit card to pay for two journeys using the contactless system. So I didn’t get a receipt, which I will need to claim expenses from my employer. I have created an online account and added my payment card and I see that the “Trips” and “Charges” screens are disabled. I have emailed OMNY customer support but does anyone have any ideas if I can speed this up (ie get receipts another way)?
all of a sudden my apple pay tap isnt working at the subways. but the card itself works so its not my card issue. any idea how to fix this? Rn i am just using a different card on my apple pay but its a travel card and id rather not use that.
Somebody please explain what's OMNY card and how it works and is it better than metro card??Please explain like you're explaining it to a 10 year old. I'm visiting new York for a month and I'd be using subway or bus for transportation. Thanks in advance.
I found an OMNY on the sidewalk today in Brooklyn. Looked up the number and it has a balance, although I don't believe that it has an auto-reload on it.
Any way to return this to its owner? I don't see a "Mail this Card..." listing on the back.
I usually pay with Google Wallet and a bank card. I know I can bring upa statement once my bank account is updated. I'm looking for something I can show someone on the spot as proof payment.
My Omny online account shows my credit card as the Travel Card. Can I use that card with Android Pay and get the senior discount associated with my Omny account? I'm asking because the number of the physical card is different than the virtual number showing on the digital wallet.
Has anyone else’s student omny card suddenly stop working recently? It’s been fine for a month and all of a sudden it just says “card not accepted” on my usual bus and train routes. Nothing’s changed on my end and the card is still in great condition, but it stopped working since last weekend.
I was going to wait a bit to see if it fixes itself before taking it back to my school. Please lmk if you’ve had a similar experience!!
I received email with subject "Reload your OMNY card to continue riding". Had to pay off a balance, then the card was re-activated. But as the OMNY.info site notes, the card is set to "Reload When balance falls below $10.00".
after i did the laundry i found my omny card in one of my pants today after i washed it and it looks like this. my school gave it to me in a plastic cover with the actual card inside the cover so maybe it will work but i want to know if it could still work and not have to ask the school for a new one
Does someone know why these cards were made to expire?
I cannot think of a good reason why these cards expire - it just creates more plastic waste, makes me buy another card for $1, or if I have funds in the card, I have to worry about transferring it before it expires.
My wife got a Physical omny card and we are wondering if we can link the same card in our separate accounts
is it possible?
Thanks for the answers in advance.
I'm having terrible trouble with OMNY the past month. My card that I always pay with using apple pay has stopped being accepted. It works in every other place except OMNY machines in the subway. To try to remedy this, I've created an account and am trying to add the card to my wallet on the OMNY website. However, whether I am on mobile or desktop, I cannot submit the form to add the card. I enter the card number and am presented with a message below the field that says "Please ensure that your card number is entered correctly". Basically it's a message telling me there's a typo in my card number. But there isn't! I have re-entered it dozens of times, spaces, no spaces, copy-pasted from my password keeper, entered manually- the form is determined not to take the card! I'm not even submitting the form and getting an error message back- there is some sort of problem with the submission form itself that is not recognizing my card as valid. Incredibly frustrating to say the least. Is there some sort of known issue with this, or some suggested workaround? I feel like I'm getting pretty unlucky with these system glitches and I would love to know how others have solved for this
I only put about $30 on my FSA transit card from work each month, which i inevitably end up running out of money so when it happens (and i don't know i'm out), i tap, it says card cannot be accepted and goes red, and then i use another regular debit or credit card to let me through.
i am just realizing about these recovery charges - does this mean everytime my card is declined, even though i end up paying with another card, eventually my other card gets charged?
i also saw i got charged like 7x on one day once.
it all seems too annoying to try to fight but i am trying to figure out how to not spend any extra money on this thing than necessary.
