Numismatics is the study of coins and other currency units and is usually associated with the appraisal and collection of rare coins. Numismatists study the physical properties, production technology, and historical context of specimens of currency.
Numismatics is the study or collection of currency, including coins, tokens, paper money, and related objects. While numismatists are often characterized as students or collectors of coins, the discipline also includes the broader study of money and other payment media used to resolve debts and the exchange of goods. Numismatic value may be used to refer to the value in excess of the monetary value conferred by law.

I've never seen this print on a 50 euro bill and I'm wondering if it's worth anything
Hello, numismatics community!
I could really use your advice. Long story short: my wife’s grandmother, who was a numismatist for over 30 or 40 years, passed away last year. She left behind a large collection—probably over 50 pounds of coins from various countries. She told my wife to sell them after she passed, but neither of us knows how to properly assess their value, identify the rare ones, or sell them. What do you think is the best way for us to start?
Is this pile of cents worth analyzing or would an exchange for a note be more profitable? THANKS
Hi everyone! I'm french and live in France and I recently obtained thanks to my grandma a certaint amount of french Franc. But they're pretty old as they are from between 1920 and 1940.
My question is do they have some value in the numismatic market?
