Will the Commando 961 ever come to the USA?

I noticed the bike is a special sale that doesn't pass Euro5, so I'm thinking not, unfortunately.

edit: Norton never replied to my question via their contact form.

New to English Bikes

Hey people

I’m one of those types who does a ton of research before buying….

I’m looking at a few bikes coming away from the Euro sports scene. Ready for a change. Nortons are so rare that I’m trying to do my homework so to speak.

I went from vintage 70s Japanese made to Sports and then onto Euros like the 1098’s etc.

My back won’t suffer sports anymore

So I’m looking at Trumpy’s and Norton ….

I’m looking at the online reviews, but as owners any advice would be fantastic. Do you need to know the engines backwards or does good servicing take care of that ….

I know I sound green and that’s because I have no clue. I have just thought they are beautiful bikes for a good few years and taking up any advice you might have

Edit: specifically 850’s if anyone here can comment 👍 Thanks in advance Safe riding

Potential Purchase Advice Update!

Thank you everyone for the feedback. I went and picked her up last weekend and will hopefully have her running sometime in the spring! Here she is all hosed off, still have a little scrubbing to do but she looks great for 50 and only 12K original miles! Also, does any one have any advise on what cleaner to use on the shiny bits, not sure if its aluminum, chrome, or alloy?

Need help with timing

Okay, I am lost. 1969 750, have the head off. Timing chains are in, 10 apart. Pazon installed at the back of the case. I am trying to set initial timing with crank timing wheel. Have pointer set up, set at zero with pistons as high as they can go (TDC.). I do a full rotation and end at zero when pistons return to full extension (TDC.). Is this good enough to put the top end back together?

Have also been told to have my primary cases on when I do this, and told that step is not needed.

Will be doing the Pazon later.

I’ve watched the INOA mick Hemings video, have read the Pazon instructions and the manuals. Am so confused and just need clarification. Thanks.

Looking for a Norton guru who can help me ID my bike, I think it might be rare.

So my Dad passed away when I was 27. He had a 1971 Norton commando 750 he put in the basement when he and my mom had me. When he passed I decided to leave it there until I had a few more years riding under my belt. I'm now 34 and I pulled the bike out last winter. Went through (with the help of a British bike shop) and got it all ready for the road. Just started riding it and decided to try to figure out exactly what model it was since I couldn't ever get an answer from anyone on if it was a fastback with some things swapped or a roadster with some changes or what, especially since every Norton person said it wasn't the stock tank or seat (seat is BSA). I was about to order a used Norton tank to bring it back to "original" when I decided to dig one more time. That's when I learned about the "peanut" tank, which as far as I can tell only ever came on the SS model. The other defining features of an SS are a tall dirtbike style front fender (my fender is missing so I dunno) swept back handlebars (mine has these) and a tucked peashooter exhaust (mine has the low exhaust but it may have been changed). The VIN seems to fall within the window of the SS VIN, but there is a lot of overlap in numbers and models and im not quite sure. If it is an SS it seems they only made a couple hundred and they are one of the rarest Norton's ever made. VIN: 147576

New to motorcycles

Good evening everybody!

I currently do not ride a motorcycle, but I have always wanted to. My commute is too long to bike anymore, and the public transportation situation is not ideal. The ideal situation to finally turn to a purchasing a motorcycle. I love the look of Norton's, and always have.

My question, Are they a good starter bike?

1975 Commando Mk III Controls

I have a Commando Mk III on which a prior owner replaced the left and right switch clusters. That's okay on the right cluster because it still has a perch for the front brake (although a stock Norton mirror will not fit), but the left-side cluster (with a Magura clutch lever) has not place for a mirror.

Does anyone have a source for a replacement for the left-side cluster that will accept a mirror? Or should I go with a "universal" mirror mount that clamps to the handlebars above the switch cluster? Or maybe bar end mirrors?

Part of me wants to make the bike as stock looking as possible. Basically, a restomod. But function is currently more important that looks.

1969 commando Pazon upgrade help

Which side of contact breaker shaft does the thrust washer go on? When it is on the Pazon side (head of bolt) side, the chain sprocket and shaft holes that the pin goes thru are misaligned. Thrust washer is 1/8” thick and a larger diameter than the recess the oil seal is in. 1969 750 commando

Used Norton Parts

We, Brit Bikes N Bits, purchased all the "take off" parts from the highly respected Colorado Norton Works. Combined with our already extensive inventory, we now have an incredible stock of used Norton parts. We are in the process of creating a list and online purchasing. Until then, please make your inquiries here or directly. To avoid confusion, Norton part numbers are best.
