Me and my family have been thinking of moving from MD to Arlington Va. We have a couple options but we have been considering moving to North Highland specifically around Cleveland St. Does anyone body now how the area is when compared to other parts of Arlington?
I have an old TV that i like to donate. It is not a smart tv or anything. Just an lcd tv, but works perfectly fine and can be converted to stream with a fire stick or google chrome-cast and such.
Are there places other than Goodwill type that i can donate to ? Some place like a hospital or homeless shelter or some place like that in need of such things ?
So I just started working after getting laid off near the beginning of the year. I’ve been cutting my own hair the past couple years, but I feel like I’ve never found the right “style”. Plus I’m kind of paranoid if my hair is thinning or not, and feel like it would be good getting an objective third party to be like “hey you’re gonna look better to just buzz it all off”.
I’m probably looking to keep it on the cheaper end, though, as I’m only just getting my first paycheck in like six months. But trying to turn things around, so figure a good haircut might help me get in the zone a bit more. Plus a buddy of mine is trying to convince me to make a dating profile, so might not be a bad idea to try and look sharp.
Looking for casual running partners or people I can join to run with. I am aware of the meetup groups but they are very huge and strict about timings and I keep missng them. Hoping to join someone(s) as a jogging partner around the city.
Has anyone every gone to court? i got a regular toll violation notice, but the picture is so bad i want to contest it. has anyone tried the admin court they have?
Hi.
Does anyone here own a service dog? If so could you tell me how do you maneuver around NoVA? Is it service dog friendly here?
Hey everyone, I’m a 25M moving to Reston in about 3 weeks for work. I don’t know too many people in the area and looking to get into some clubs if anyone has any recommendations. I’m very close to Reston town center but willing to commute for the activities. Thanks!
Clubs/groups in particular:
Running Rock climbing/bouldering Camping Hiking Skiing? (Shot in the dark, but one of my favorite things)
In short, trying to relive my youth through my kid. Was talking to my wife and we want to find a place that has one of those quarter cent rides that used to exist outside of grocery stores/kmarts. Are any around??
This is at a condo unit in Alexandria. Wonder what 'Joplin Barracks' is. The photo on the left is a deceased person's memorial photo.
Ideas brought up - some sort of veteran's association (not likely) - some sort of fraternity (not likely)
As spooky season is knocking on the door, anybody know of any supposed haunted locations in the area?
So I've been wanting some fresh jujubes for a few days now, and I've been driving around to some stores this with with no luck. I'm not sure if my usual stores don't sell them anymore or I just waited too long and they are gone by now. Anybody has any suggestions or places where they may still have some?
Thanks
As the title suggests I'm moving back to Nova and looking for a 2bdrm apt in the Tysons corner area within 10 min walk to metro that isn't $4,000 or have tons of bad reviews!
Thanks so much in advance. I visited 5 apts today and a couple were nice but crazy pricey with shit reviews and a couple were so so but still some bad reviews.
I'm looking good for good/great recommendations. Thanks so much in advance!!!
I live in Woodbridge but I’d make the drive to Annandale or Centreville if the places are good!
Single, recent grad, 24M and I'll start working at an office near Reston Town Center in 2-3 weeks. I've been here for about a week and all my stuff is in storage. Right now I'm just figuring out housing. I'm a bit apprehensive committing to the area because of everything I've read painting this area as some sort of dead zone.
I feel like every post like this here devolves into an Arlington circlejerk.
I'll admit, it's a nice city and I would like to live there at some point, but I don't feel like it's worth it right now.
After work, I just want to chill out in peace. It doesn't make sense to me to commute further and pay tolls to live in a more expensive city for a bunch of amenities and activities I won't have the spare money or time to enjoy.
Don't get me wrong, I like all the things the city has to offer but realistically I only go out on weekends. I also really dislike "party" culture which I feel most of the recent grads/young professionals in that area might be fixated on. After college, I realized this is not really the crowd I want to spend my time with.
I also don't care if its a "reverse commute." If it's over 30 minutes, it's more or less a waste of time to me.
I feel like it's more sensible to save my time and money so I can use the metro on weekends and actually enjoy myself.
Even though I'm an introvert, I'm just a bit concerned if I'm really robbing myself the opportunity of building a support system. However, I do have some close friends in the area and have been able to meet others from them and most of my coworkers are in the 20s-30s range so I guess I haven't leveraged those resource much yet.
Clarification: I'm currently living at hotels while I look for housing. I work in Reston and am considering living close to where I work, but this sub seems to glorify Arlington and I'm concerned if I'm really losing that much by living so far out given my lifestyle.
Does anyone have info on what’s going on at the Home Depot off Lee Highway? Apparently there are some police with rifles out and no one can leave the store
I was getting gas at Costco in Leesburg, and right as I was pulling in I heard an absolutely over-the-top, loud jet noise. At first, I thought it was a plane from Dallas airport; however, that, as soon as I looked up, I see a jet screaming over a relatively low altitude and then banking down route seven basically.
Hi! Would anyone like to go 50/50 on the Fairfax recreation center month to month two adult membership?
I live in Leesburg and just heard what sounded like a plane but it sounded like it was 100 feet away from the house. My wife went outside and saw a couple neighbors but didn’t see a plane. Anyone else hear this or know what it was?
