I was running on the W&OD trail today over by Herndon. I've been trying to get back into the habit and decided to extend my range by a mile for a total of four. I just hit the two mile mark and turned around. After walking for about a minute I get hit from the back by a bike. I get knocked down scraping my hand up. I look down and there's a large gash on my lower left leg that's bleeding a bit. The kid that his me looked to be 14 or 15, starts apologizing. Then he sets me off "I'm sorry, I was on my phone." I looked down and the phone was still in his hand. At that point I lost it and totally chewed him out. I must have been screaming at him for 2-3 minutes straight before I just turned around and walked away. He had a friend there about the same age trying to explain that they were trying to find a friend's house. I screamed at him that I didn't care about his intentions or his apology.
I walked about a half mile then called an Uber to get back home. I haven't gone to the emergency room yet. I dumped a bunch of isopropyl alcohol on it and used some alcohol wipes. It still stings a bit and it's going to bruise up. I'm wondering if there's any other way I should have handled it. I don't know. I know this could have potentially been a liability issue but would it have been worth it? I don't like frivolous lawsuits. I thought about calling the police, not to arrest him. I wish his parents would take away his damn phone until at least the start of next year.
Driving on the highway in Dulles and saw a bright green flash with a streak heading towards the ground. Thought the Nuke finally came but assuming it’s a meteor?
Anyone else see it around 9:20 pm?
I was in the Express lanes while traffic in the regular lanes was stopped and in two separate incidents, a pickup truck crossed the double lines and over the flimsy poles to get into the express lanes. One of them almost caused an accident because the car in that lane had to swerve into the other lane to avoid them.
I’m just wondering if there’s any penalty for doing this, since presumably the camera would pick up that you exited the lane but never entered it. Doesn’t really matter but would give me a bit of satisfaction to know if they’re going to get a big fine in the mail.
I'm looking at a car that is being sold by Easterns and I've noticed that it (and, from looking, the ~30-40 other cars they have of that specific make and model) has sat for over 3 months with no price adjustments or anything, and I've since found some better deals at competing dealerships. Has anyone bought from here before, are they flexible on price (i.e. do they negotiate price - I've seen mixed thoughts on reviews)?
I'm looking to pay cash, no financing BS.
Thank you!
Hi all, 40m looking for any choirs in the Reston or nearby (10 mile radius)?
I am a working professional a couple years out of undergrad working a full-time 9-5 job. I am considering a career change into medicine and I am seeking opportunities to get some physician shadowing and clinical experiences.
How straightforward is it to get these experiences here in NoVa as a full-time working professional who can only dedicate time to these things outside of core work hours? I know there are a couple of universities nearby with medical schools (Georgetown, GWU, etc.).
Looking for a Weird Brothers type place but for bars.
My husband and I moved to a rural part of western Loudoun county from DC to be in nature and have a bit of land for outdoor hobbies.
While we’ve made great relationships with older neighbors, we have found it difficult to find a younger community here. We’re early 30s, no kids yet and enjoy backpacking, mountain biking, trying new breweries/wineries etc. Wondering how younger people are making friends out here in more rural areas?
This is probably a decade (and an act of congress) away becoming reality.
I am considering on getting an apartment at Cortland at National Landing in Arlington, VA and would like to hear some experiences of those living there.
How is the management and maintenance, amenities, costs, and noise level?
I just thought that was so absurd I needed to share. I went there this weekend and my group got hungry. I stopped in the pizza parlor expecting to overpay but FFS. I was shocked. We just had to laugh.
$18 a slice!!?! That would be $144 for an entire pizza. The kicker is that it looked like some $5 frozen gas station pizza. 🍕
My friend decided to speed up (in my car) when the light changed from yellow to red. And yes, I yelled him for having the nerve to do that since it's my car (we're taking turns behind the wheel on this long trip).
I didn't see a light flash. Can't tell if there was a camera or not since it was night time. But recently these cameras around NOVA/DC have been improved their technology. And sometimes they send you tickets you don't even recall. Is there a possibility there was a camera but didn't flash?
It seems like Amazon is not the place to buy skates. Looking to buy a good pair of skates around 300-400 dollars. Where should I go?
I say possible cause I have no idea but definitely a weird situation. I was sitting at a stop light in Tyson’s and I don’t normally let my dogs sit in my lap when I drive but we were one street away from home and let them move to sit on my lap to see out the open window.
I was minding my business with tons of space between me and the car in front of me and all the sudden I hear someone from the car next to me yell “Honk! honk!” And I look up and see the car in front of me rolling back. So I honk but they keep rolling back. I’m not big on using my horn or road rage lol but they still are getting closer so I kept honking till they stopped because they were just about to hit me. They moved so far from where they were at the line at the light so idk how they didn’t notice they were rolling back or if it was an insurance scam.
I wasn’t sure if their car was having an issue or what but it was weird they kept rolling back even when I was honking. Shoutout to the car next to me for telling me to Honk 🫶🏽 and shoutout to the universe for having my window open so I could hear them.
Either way I’m about to buy a dash cam today.
Wife dropped off both of our ballots at the Manassas election office on Thursday and our registration status still does not show the ballots as received.
How do we make sure our votes count?
Thanks in advance!
Hey NoVA! Been lurking on this sub recently and thought it was time to post. My spouse and I are relocating to the area soon (~2 months) for work in Tysons and would love some advice on where to live as we settle in. We’re early 30s, no kids yet (but planning to), and both work white-collar jobs. We’ve previously lived in Boston and Miami, so we’re familiar with both city life and quieter suburbs.
Since we’re new to Northern VA, we’re thinking of renting close to Tysons for 6-12 months, so we can get a feel for the area and decide if we want to eventually buy here. We are over the going out to a bar/club lifestyle and now value a quiet and safe environment, enjoy eating out, and tend to be introverted but like to meet like-minded, college-educated professionals. Looking to start a family soon as well.
We’d ideally like a 2+ bedroom place, and I’m assuming apartments are our best bet—any recommendations on specific apartment buildings? Budget ~$3-4k/mo. Anything to avoid? We’d appreciate any insights on neighborhoods and complexes, especially ones with a nice balance of quiet and convenience. Thanks!
I'm trying to get into photography as a hobby and was snapping photos at the pumpkin decorations in the center of Clarendon Crossing. Y'all were kind enough to offer your puppers as models when y'all learned i was trying to learn how to take photos - never caught your names but if y'all are on here, here's the pics and thank you to you both for your kindness!
I really want like a big bowl of it over rice
Does anyone know why there is soo many middle easterners wondering/standing around the mosaic area at night? Just curious
Looking for a place to vibe and chill on Election Night. We are a young couple in Centerville but willing to drive north or south if any place you know is having a watch party. Taking no sides. Just winning 😆
Looking to sell a used car relatively hassle-free. There doesn’t seem to be a lot of used car dealerships in the area though.
Is the best way around here just to sell it to an actual dealership or Carmax?
I’ll be flying into DC around 9 pm, and need to be in Richmond the next day by late afternoon. I’ll be renting a car at the airport, and I’m looking for somewhere to stay in between DC and Richmond for that night. Basically, somewhere cool to walk around a bit and have lunch the next day. (I’ve already spent time in DC so would rather somewhere new.)
I’m fine with a 30m - 1h detour off that route to get to somewhere cool.
Any suggestions? (And if there is a more appropriate sub for me to ask this in, please let me know. Thank you!
ETA: Flying into IAD. Mainly just want to explore somewhere new, and I have no reason to be in Richmond before I can check into my hotel the next day. I’ll be meeting up with friends there for a wedding, so I’ll have some time to explore Richmond with them.
Update: Looked at my hotel reservation and realized I booked my hotel in Richmond for 3 nights instead of 2. 😆 So, I’ll be going to Richmond directly! Appreciate all the recommendations and tips, I’m going to plan on checking out Fredericksburg on my way back to DC!
I’m looking for a stylist that offers balayage at an affordable price. All the ones in the area I have found charge $400+ if not more, and it is just not affordable anymore. Does anyone have recommendations? Thank you!
Edit: Title should say “Place to avoid” *
Tyson’s Corner is a great location with tons of amenities. I’ve lived in nova for majority of my adult life and TC is by far my favorite location in the entire “Nova” area. If you’ve lived here from the beginning tho you know a lot of these buildings are starting to show their age. The Rotonda by “the boro” should be avoided at all costs. Not only is the building itself so old that the entire complex is plagued with constructions theyve been doing construction for over the parking garages for 8-9 hours a day, 5 days a week, for 9+ months now. I’m talking heavy concrete jack hammering and drilling that shakes and reverberates through the entire 10 story building. All this has been a major inconvenience and it’s literally JUST for the parking situation…. It doesn’t even begin to address the out dated facilities that are severely lacking. How about fixing the building’s plumbing problems before giving your vip’s more shaded parking.
And then there’s the employees. Daytime employees - fantastic, helpful, friendl, welcoming. This team/set of workers is extremely professional. Unfortunately the night shift is a different story. Idk why some gate people think they have the keys to the universe, but my family has had repeated issues with this same gate attendee repeatedly. He has made our guests feel unwelcome visiting the facility, he talks in an extremely rude and condescending manner. His job is to welcome residents and guests, not protecting government secrets. Unfortunately it seems this person is actually mentally unstable considering they called the lease holder at 2am regarding an incident that happened the day before but filled with a bunch of lies and false statements. We are actually having to record ourselves leaving and entering the complex when on foot cuz he’s started to follow us as pedestrians and harass family and friends.
We are locked into a lease but please don’t subject your family to this type of bullying and harassment. This guy 100% treats anyone younger than him like lesser humans who deserve zero respect or basic decency. He has lied repeatedly on reports and the fact that we’re just entering and leaving an open area gated only to cars, is absolutely insane that we’re having to suffer through this dudes bs. When asking a different coworker about this gate attendant, his fellow coworker referred to him as “a rude piece of shit of talks shit to everyone and is just rude af” - that is coming from a fellow gate attendant in our same complex. The fact that he feels he has the complex supervisor behind him to continue this torment is just absurd and we will take legal action if it goes any further.
He’s upset some of the younger memebers of our family who have had bad experiences with “authority” figures abusing their roles and positions. No one should have to deal with this when just tryin to get back to the place that’s supposed to be “safe”?
Went to a really nice brewery with fabulous outside spaces last night There were so many kids there running around and playing while their parents drank beer. When did this become okay? You wouldn’t take your kid to a bar but you bring them to a brewery then DUI them home in the car??? IMO breweries are adult only spaces.
Long shot, but if you lost a digital camera at Windmill Hill Park in Alexandria last weekend, please reach out.
