Anyone notice they catch colds and things after being on nights a lot more, the longer I do them the tougher it gets and I end up catching any illness going around
Im leaving night shift in 4 days, hallelujah. I appreciate y'all but I tried it for 3 months, I switched to nightshift because of a toxic coworker and I just can't do it anymore, straight up got a new job. I'm more depressed and apathetic than usual, I'm always tired, and the worst part of my day is waking up. I can't get out of bed. I'll fall back asleep until I have to get up for work. My brain feels slow and foggy and anxious. I don't know how I can hold on any longer, but that's probably because I'm so close to working dayshifts again. Much appreciation for y'all but my body simply can't cope. AAaaaahhhhhhh
How do you guys manage your relationships with your S/O when dealing with night shift while they work day/evening shifts? Also, i’ve found it extremely hard to have any dating “time” while working nights, how do y’all deal with the “dating/relationship” world?
Cheers Night Squad 🤘
I'm a nurse working 3 12's a week. I've been rocking out on night shifts for a year now. More recently, it feels like time is blending together in a weird soup.
Events that occurred yesterday or even just an hour ago seem to be years away. It feels like life is just a lucid dream.
I understand this likely has to do with sleep deprivation and I'm doing exactly opposite of what is recommended, which is flipping to a "normal" schedule on my days off.
I can't bring myself to stick with a night shift schedule and sacrifice both my social life and outdoor hobbies. At the same time, I have a feeling if I continue like this, it will only get worse.
Anyone else have experience with this? I guess just looking to see if any can relate.
Edit: Thank you all for your feedback and experience. It definitely gave me some things to think over and consider. First and foremost though, I need to prioritize my sleep a little more lol.
If you had someone working through the night to care for your loved one, in your home, would make her sit all night at 66F?? It just seems inconsiderate, I am freezing my coohoonies off !!!! Especially since I forgot my jacket.
For context I work 10:45pm-7:15am. Overtime most times is 10:45pm-11:15am. Created a meal schedule for both normal and overtime schedules including sleep! 6 total meals per day 3 “snacks” 3 full meals. Hopefully this helps someone. I workout 5 days a week would compete if I had more time.
Hello night shift workers!
I'm about to start my second job which, surprise surprise, is nights. My other part time job is as a music teacher. My night schedule is Midnight-8:30am and my teaching schedule is about 4pm-8pm (it depends on the day of the week). My plan was to sleep after my night shift, wake up and go teach, and then stay up until I went to work nights again. However, that's not gonna be enough sleep for me. If I'm lucky I'll be asleep from 9-3. I was wondering what anyone's advice would be for timing naps during my off time. More specifically, how long? How often? Any other nights specific advice. Thanks in advance!
What do you guys do for fun during you days? And any of yall down to get a group going and hit up a breakfast spot or something. Idk about yall but since I moved out here away from family and friends it is hard to actually meet people to hangout with when I work when everyone is asleep. But if anyone in the area is down hmu im down for breakfast and beers in the parking lot hahahah
I need to have a blood test done right when I wake up. Usually this is around 8 or 9pm for my night shift, and as far as I can tell there are no testing centers open at this time. Has anyone encountered this problem before, and if so where did you have your blood drawn?
Evening Nightshift! security is here. at the desk, coffee in hand fresh pack of cigs in my pocket and snacks in the bag. its gonna be aa good night ladies and gentlemen. have a good attitude and it will go smoothly.
you know the drill. I'll be here until 7a if anyone needs anything or just wants to shoot the shit for a few minutes.
I live in India!! Working 7PM to 4AM!! My schedule is do fucked up that I am only taking one meal of the day that dinner only...How to cope up with this fucked up schedule.
Hi!
I recently got a job while I'm in medical school and I'm worried that this could negatively impact my health.
My schedule is the following:
Monday to Friday I go to medical school in the morning, 7 AM to 2 PM. Friday to Sunday I go to my job 7 PM to 7AM of the next day, so I get as fast as I can to school on Mondays since the office is near my med school.
On weekends I do my best to sleep during the day but most of the time I can't because I live with other 3 people in the same room. During weekdays I also struggle to fall asleep during the night.
For people who have been working on a similar schedules, do you think I should look for another job? Or this won't be a big deal in the long run? Today is my first month at this job and I still feel pretty good most of the time, just a little headache.
I am going from a typical 7-3 monday to friday schedule to a 12 hour Dupont work schedule. Any tips for adjusting? Seems may be a bit of getting used to but the 7 days off every month sounds like it makes up for it.
Hi everyone, I’ve been working night shift for over 2 years now and occasionally I’ll experience brain fog or disorientation. I have a job where I’m required to think clearly. When this happens I get super anxious at work so I feel like it exacerbates the situation. Does anyone experience this and if so have you found anything that has helped prevent this? Thank you!
I (29M) have been doing overnight for a few years but this is my second year with this company. I don't particularly hate the work I just hate the isolation and weird void of being unable to do a lot of day worker activities or get to interact with a lot of people outside of work.
Does anybody have any insight or ideas on how to make this work? I feel like demographically a lot of people don't work nights in general.
Ya'll able to take a shower while on shift or no, just curious.

First night on for my 4 night shifts. Got here at 4pm and go home at 4am.
Just have to set one before I get ready to go home at the job since I sleep in. But other than that I can’t remember when I set an alarm
I love working out and the gym. The last 2 weeks I decided to try something new. I started working out after my shift. I completed my 2 weeks. My goodness I don't see how you guys do it. I have been a night shifter going on 6 years. I wake up 30 mins before my shift and I'm still exhausted when it comes time to leave. I guess I'll stick to working out before work and on my off days. Hats off to you guys. My body just can't take the after work workouts. I guess it's just not for me. I have no issues completing them before.
I'm starting my nightshift role in the new year, currently on day shift in same place. Looking for tips and tricks for adjusting my body clock. My rota is Monday to Sunday, 8pm-8am, 7 on 14 off. Do I try and stay up late the Sunday night and nap all of Monday in prep for the first night?
Is there something that i just get to sit at a desk all night and sip energy drinks and somethings thats safe and does not require much physical labour i know my criteria sound strange but thats the kinda job i want to work
I don’t want to go in to do this nightshift, I absolutely hate doing nights. My manager knows this. I know it’s only one night a week & the rest of my shifts are days. Does anyone else feel like this?
I'm trying to keep my mind busy, and I have seen 3 different posts within the last hour on multiple subreddits about how nightshift dating sucks. We all know that already, so why not use this subreddit to our advantage?
I'm 32m and I live in NJ. Any single ladies that work nights in NJ care for a chat?
Am I crazy or is this a good idea? I mean, this is reddit after all, but it's not like we are having better success elsewhere by sleeping all day and working all night.
His name is China
Hi fellow nightshifters.
I work the nightshift in a gas station my schedule is pretty easy, midnight to 8 from sunday to friday morning. I'm sleeping 1pm to 9pm from sunday to thursday and i have on & off sleep during the week ends but that gave me 5 steady 8 hours sleep session a week.
But now i started boxing class because i know at some point some crackhead is gonna attack me.
Problem is it's at 6h30pm so i have to sleep during the day. I just cant do it sleeping 1 to 9 then 9 to 5. Do any of you go to bed right after work ? I need some advice.
