NewJersey Subreddit Rules (Moderator discretion applies)
Adhere to the same standards of behavior online that you follow in real life.
R1: No hate speech or trolling: Racism, homophobia, transphobia, antisemitism, sexism, & hate speech against minority groups, religions, or national origin is prohibited. That goes for language you might have used in other subs.
R2: No reposts, redundant content, or old news. Check the queue first before posting.
R3: No posts for information or requests for illegal products, services, or activities. No unnecessary violent content.
R4: No off-topic posts. Content must be substantially about or unique to New Jersey.
R5: When possible, link to the original article of a news story, and absolutely NOT a partisan re-write to make a political point. No linkjacking.
R6: No links to articles behind hard paywalls (like Wall Street Journal). Soft paywalls are allowed (like NY Times & NorthJersey.com)
R7: Headline & link format: No link shorteners or otherwise obscured links, including posts, text, and comments.
R8: Articles must be submitted as Links, not as a Self-Post.
R9: No ALL CAPS TITLES or inappropriate use of NSFW/Spoiler flairs to get increased visibility. Submissions must in English.
R10: Please, don't post a help/advice question needing a local business without mentioning where you are or how far are you willing to travel, etc. It does no good for us to help you find the nearest shoe repair shop in Atlantic County only to find out later you're in Morris.
R11: No denying, downplaying, or spreading misinformation about COVID 19 or measures to reduce its spread. This includes: vaccines, quarantines, limits on gatherings, mask wearing, contact tracing, and other public health measures. Moderators can and will use personal judgement when enforcing this rule.
And finally...
Don't drive slow in the left/passing lane.
Don't drive with high beams on while passing traffic.
Don't take up more than one spot in a parking lot.
Don't drive with snow and ice on your car.
Don't shift lanes / make a turn without using your turn signal.
What to do:

I want to bring attention to a serious issue I've witnessed in Hillside, NJ. There's a man driving a Sentra with a Kansas license plate on Broadway Street who is seriously abusing his black lab. The poor dog looks terrified and i seen him smacking and punching his poor dog yelling “with your ass”. Ive seen him hotbox his car with the dog in it and let it drink alcohol so it stops barking. It's heartbreaking to see such cruelty, and I hope that by sharing this, someone can help intervene and contact someone to get the dog to a safe and loving environment. If you have any Info or can help or know who can, please reach out to me I see him walking back from ace hardware where he works and just yesterday he was sent home for screaming at his boss let’s work together to stop this abuse the dog stays in his car for hours on end and the man punches the hell out of it when it poops on his seat. If you’re homeless I understand how a dog can relief some of that burden but why have a dog and mistreat it. The man is always parked between Broadway and long ave.
Hi. Unfortunately I am renting a multifamily/2family owned home in saddle brook NJ. My lease is done by Jan. 31st 2024. However, the landlord says due to personal reasons, and paying my rent late (partial rent) - I supposedly am now the reason why he is going through financial problems and he cant afford for me to be there anymore. But what if rental assistance was recently rejected due to them claiming that i dont owe them rent? Despite me recently owing them $1700 ($1500 balance out of $2300 + $200 late fee). I still paid them (today 11/14) the $1700 when i advised them ahead of time that i will have to pay the remaining balance during my next paycheck. However, now that my lease is about to be up, they are refusing to renew it because of late rent. I dont "not" pay at all. I pay whatever i can & have and then pay the remaining when i get paid again. This is due to the $500 increase ive been put in within the past 2 years of living here. Before this, i never paid late and due to being disabled for 68 days without pay, it ruined my life - which is also another reason for paying late since that time. But my lawyer did give me a hardship letter. Unfortunately i dont & wont have enough to afford to leave anywhere else since im still expected to pay the full rent until my lease is up which is in 2 months. But ive never been evicted before and he said its exaclty what hes going to do if i dont leave once the 2months is up. I am also having issues with my workplace which I have a letter from dept. of labor to prove it. But he does not care about the hardship letter or my workplace situation. Please I am begging at this point for any assistance/advice possible because I have no family or even friends that I'd be able to try to stay with in the meantime. Ive been living by myself for the past 10 years and never been having to face eviction or even pay late until now.
Not that its the landlords problem but, as far as my workplace goes.. being disabled for those 3 months - i technically had no pay because instead of letting me get unemployment/disability , my bosses (a multimillion $ llp company) paid me for 40hrs/week on the clock , but had me pay all of it back when i came back to work once i was able to walk again. So being that I was paying them partially until that balance was paid off - this was when I started to pay them late. Im facing severe stress right now and at this point yes, i'm losing my mind.
Where’s the money coming from ? It would be better spent on building a better rail line to Pennsylvania.
I’m not sure coming from South Jersey if I want to just drive there and find parking or if I want to take a train, any suggestions? I know that event sometimes runs late does the train run all night ?
To preface, I'm actively losing weight on medication and have lost 85 since September 5 2023. So I'm 240 and 5 ft 3 in. Surgeon says I can't have knee replacement bc I'm obese. He wants my BMI at 40 or less and I'm at 43. I KNOW there are surgeons who do the surgery on people my body type. People have told me their own stories, but it's been lots of Philly and out of state or Northern NJ NYC. Horizon blue total care will let me go out of state or network if I get a letter saying the out of network Dr is able to do the surgery when in network ones can't. I'm in Cape may county for reference.
I live in Morris County and the smell from the fires is so overwhelming I can smell it inside my house. I’ve never seen NJ like this in my life. If climate change isn’t real why do we break different records so often.
Edit: I thought it was clear but I’m implying climate change is in fact, real.
Hi! I've never been to Jersey and am going there for a concert next August. I'm hoping to find a good and decently priced hotel for 2 nights. I've found a few near MetLife but the reviews were not great on any of them. I was hoping to be able to walk to and from the stadium but I'm okay with ride-sharing to get around if need be. Thank you for any help!!!!
We’re visiting family in December in kinnelon NJ and looking for ideas of what to do with kids (5yr old and 10 month old)? Maybe indoors if cold but open to hearing anything.
Hi, I want to leave teaching and my friend recommended working at pseg because she's happy there. I thought about getting into IT and ultimately Cyber security but I don't have any experience and don't think I could even get my foot in the door. Everything I read says that market is flooded.
What positions at pseg would be suitable for a former teacher? I wouldn't mind something on the technical side but would need training. Also would not mind an office job... Any suggestions TIA
Hi everyone! I hope you're having a great night so far!
As of late some of blue states ( California, New York, Minnesota, and Colorado) have been adding legal protections in their respective states to fight against the GOP. I haven't seen NJ take a stand so far and it's getting me nervous. I know NJ has really great protections for lgbtq+ people ( it's in the constitution). Although I can't help it. I'm considering transfering to a college/university in NY after community college ( if Trump doesn't F it up lol). Since they have slightly better protections.
Will we be okay?

Hello. I am due with my second child on March 2nd. My first child will be under two still. I used up my NJFLA for my first child with FLI. I am a teacher and do not have private disability nor do I qualify for TDI. When I have my second child, I will need to use FMLA, so my question is… can I use FLI for wage replacement? I ask because FLI renews every 12 months and can be used whether my job is being protected under state or federal law. (Picture included from the state website)

Opening up an Office Adult Rec Sports League mainly to service Central Jersey but of course open to all. League would run multiple sports through multiple seasons (Flag Football, Handball, Soccer, Basketball, etc.)
Trying to plan something fun for a 35th birthday (not in NYC) near union county. Any fun ideas?

Down to pay.

Hi,
I had minor oral surgery with an in-network oral surgeon (on my dental insurance). The oral surgeon sent a tissue sample to an out-of-network lab and now they want to charge me around $500 for the pathology exam and report. Does the No Surprises Act in NJ (https://www.nj.gov/dobi/division_consumers/insurance/outofnetwork.html) cover something like this? I thought that if I went to any in-network doctor, I am not responsible for things out of my control (it wasn't like they gave me an option for which lab should receive the tissue sample).
Thank you!
So a little back story, I have been taking my dog to Blue Cross Dog & Cat hospital in Paterson, NJ where she’s been getting treated for some issues with her lungs. According to them she has a chronic cough and has been on medication. However, I recently got her off the medicine because it seems like it was making her health deteriorate. So then I took her back and they agreed that it was after they had prescribed it to her. And any time I have a concern they have me do blood work just to tell me everything looks okay and get charged over 200 dollars just for bloodwork. Every time I have a concern it’s straight to bloodwork and every visit costs me over 400 dollars. My dog hasn’t been eating and has gone from 14 pounds to 10 pounds in the matter of a week and when I took her again they didn’t even give her anything for how weak she is just more bloodwork and injections. I really need recommendations to a vet who actually cares and doesn’t just want money. I feel like if I keep going here my dog is going to die and I don’t know where else to go so please if anyone knows of anyone in the Hudson, Bergen, Passaic county anywhere around please let me know!
Back story: started snowbirding to Arizona during the colder months. That's it. 😆
Looking for unique photography spots in NNJ. I always try to take an artistic/somewhat off the wall spin for my Christmas card picture of my daughter. Thought about Paulinskill Viaduct but I think all the best shots are too dangerous. Any ideas? Doesn’t have to be graffiti. Just something different than “fall leaves”
Hi, I’m 30 F and I am slightly introverted. I have friends in other states but no one in New Jersey. It would be nice to meet someone new and form a connection. Anyone interested, please hit me up. Open for suggestions as well on how to make friends around.
Driving by and I've never seen anything like it, that light looked like a UFO, incredibly bright. Cars parked everywhere and cops around. The entire abandoned house was lit up. Are they filming something?
