I searched the sub for similar questions, but couldn't find any. I have several minor mental and physical disabilities and I made a series of poor decisions while driving over a few days like speeding when light turned yellow so crossed a red light, went 60 on a 50 road, etc.. that culminated in getting over 700 EUR fines in a period of less than a week. I am generally a very careful driver but I was having a really bad week and it reflected on my driving I guess.
Now, it's not that I disagree with the fines or claim they are wrong. It's my mistake for driving in a bad mental shape, I get it. My question is, can I appeal for some mercy or reduction in the fines out of goodwill?
I searched everywhere and can't find an answer. Please let me know if that is possible.
Hi everyone,
I’ve been investing in stocks via Degiro, primarily as a long-term trader (not day trading), and I’m trying to understand the tax implications for this in the Netherlands.
Specifically:
Do I need to declare my investments during the annual income tax filing?
If so, how are these investments considered—are they part of Box 3 (wealth tax), or is there something specific for long-term trading?
Are there any thresholds or exemptions for reporting stocks and ETFs?
Is there anything special I need to consider for dividend-paying stocks?
I’d appreciate it if someone could share their experiences or point me to resources that explain this clearly. Thanks in advance for your help!
Cheers,
Where can I get a loan of 2K urgently in AMSTERDAM? I can pay it off on 31st December with interest.
Hi. I am a pharmacist from Malaysia looking to expand/update some of the compounding formulations used in my hospital. While searching around the web i noticed that the Netherlands (?or perhaps europe) seems to have quite established compounding references/recipies namely the "Formularium Nederlandse Apothekers"
Would be immensely grateful if somebody that has access to the book would be willing to share 1 or 2 formulations from the reference.
Please delete if the post is inappropirate. Thank you!
Hi all can anyone recommend by experience the best luthier specifically for nut change and slot filing. I have been to 2 professional luthiers but so far the work is not really satisfying.
(photo is not mine and just for reference)
Thanks!
Any (online) stores you’d recommend? Don’t want to spend too much but don’t want a terrible quality.
Edit: I live in Rotterdam. I don’t mind real or fake - can take the advice as part of the recommendation.
Any good sample message to write while bidding for a new home?
Hey everyone,
I'm an immigrant here, with a residence permit for family reunification (partner), which gives me full working rights in NL.
I'll be finishing my studies at the end of March 2025, and I'd like to have a job lined up so that I can start working straight away. I've seen a lot of posts with people, especially foreigners, complaining that they've applied for hundreds of jobs every month with no luck. That makes me pretty nervous, since my qualifications aren't very employable here (ancient history, linguistics, high school teaching). So, I'd like to start looking as soon as possible.
My question is, when is too early to start? I don't want to waste time applying for jobs and then get rejected because I can't start until April 2025, but I'm not sure what a reasonable amount of time would be to expect an employer to wait between accepting my application and me starting work.
If it's relevant, I'm looking mainly at paid traineeships to break into a new industry.
Thanks for any advice you can offer!
Hello,
Has anyone bought a used car from auto hero. How was the experience and how was the car. Did they deliver what they promised. Do they offer a good price for trade-in?
Thank you for your valuable inputs!
Hello,
I was looking for insurance premium for 2025. I found FBTO cheapest option for Basic.
We are also planning for a kid this year, in that case how can I avail maternity care fully reimbursed (giving birth in hospital with no medical reason case) ? Do I need to avail a special package for that ?
Any previous experience with FBTO.
I found this in their website, Is this the one ?

Hi, it might seem silly, but when I start something, I can’t help myself, even if it’s just a little thing. I’m from the Czech Republic and work for a company called Nedcon, which has roots in the Netherlands. For St. Nicholas, we received chocolate as a gift, and on the back there was this word search. Out of boredom, I started filling it in with the help of a translator. I also tried getting help from ChatGPT, but we ended up in a dead-end. Can you help me with this? Thanks!
So i'm looking for houses to buy(in Rotterdam), and currently stuck between these two options:
(Prices are almost the same)
- 46 meter, new built, Energy label A, good neighborhood but far from central, price per meter 5700€
- 88 meter, built in 1965, Label C(used to be F), good neighborhood and closer to central, price per meter 3400€
I live alone, so my primary concern is that if I want to move later to a different city or out of the city, then I want to be sure the apartment's price has appreciated well, so I can still change the apartment later without putting too much extra money.
Personally I like the second one the most, because of the location and comfort of space. But it's around 60 years old. and that's scary TBH. And i'm not willing to renovate it because I don't see myself living in city center for long, and I can not afford paying others to do it. Assuming it will cost 100-200k cash
Hi everyone!
What’s the best way to report littering that has become so widespread on our street?
Some info: under our building, there are several shops, a mini supermarket and a snackbar. Some people buying snack from there throw all their packaging on the street. We as residents have said a few times to the employees of snackbar to increase number of bins, and ensure the street doesnt get full of trash, but they dont give a f.
Is this something we can bring this up to the gemeente? Or is there another organization in NL that would look into case of excessive littering (e.g impose fines, etc.).
Any idea/suggestions would be much appreciated
Hi all,
Next year I will need a redoing if a root canal. My dentist saw that in my last visit and it's going to refer me to an specialist.
Currently I have VGZ with additional coverage for dental and I pay about 180€.
I was thinking to switch but with this root canal treatment in the near future I don't know what's better.
Do anyone have advice in this matter? It doesn't make any difference switching in this scenario?
I’m moving back to my home country and know that I need to cancel my Dutch health insurance. However, I have a concern and I can’t seem to find an answer on my own, and hope someone here might be able to help me!
I have a chronic illness and I’ve been receiving very expensive treatment for it while I’ve lived in the Netherlands, all covered by my insurance. I have noticed that when I receive treatment, the insurance company receives the bill and handles it often up to 6 months afterwards (e.g. I received treatment in April, insurance took care of it in November). My last scheduled treatment in NL will be in December, and I plan to cancel my insurance so that it will be in effect until the end of December as well.
Then I realized - will my insurance company receive the bill next summer only to see I’m not insured anymore? Will they still take care of the costs because I received the treatment while the insurance was still in effect? I’m asking because there is no way I can afford to pay the bills myself😅 Thanks for anyone who may have an answer for this and if you read the whole thing!!
Hey, I applied for and paid for an ovchipkaart exactly a month ago and got an email right after that as soon as they make it it’ll arrive in three working days. I still haven’t got it and I’m wondering if it’s a normal to wait that long or is it weird and I should contact them?
Does anyone have a lawn mowing service they like and can recommend in the Rotterdam area? Also Amsterdam? Thanks!🙏🏻
Hello reddit, I am just curious if any of you with more experience behind their backs could take a look and tell me of this looks normal? It's a small flat where I live with my other half. No gas, floor heating. Shitty insulation. Renting it fully furnished. We don't overindulge in anything (meaning GWL)
Also this feels really a d*ck move to get it this late right before Christmas, got this bill today and I am to pay it till 2nd January. Isn't there a legal time frame for landlords to provide this settlement?
Thanks in advance to anyone who can offer insight.
Peace!
Small car accident with no injuries and both cars can drive. Why the Dutch seem to have a pleasure in stopping traffic to fill in the form together in the middle of the road, while half of the country gets late to work?
It looks like it happened again: a van stuck under a bridge in Groningen. How many times does this need to happen before we make it an official sport? 🏆🚐💥
Who's keeping score? What's the record for the number of times this has happened???
If you want to, or recently have moved to the Netherlands, you might hear or read about 'the Dutch approach to' fireworks'. This approach means that in large parts of Dutch society, children have grown accustomed to play with heavy explosives, the so called 'Cobra's'. I repeat, heavy explosives. The Dutch police considers these to have the same force as handgranades. Unfortunately, due to electoral reasons, for more than a decade these explosives have not been categorised as 'Class 1 weapons' but they are still considered by and large to be 'fireworks', often used by 'rowdy kids', a part of 'Dutch fireworks tradition'.
So, if you watch the news and see some elected officials getting thrown explosives towards them by kids or young adults, and you wonder why they aren't called terrorists, now you know why. It's just a Dutch cultural thingie.
Where do you buy fruits typically? I am used to go to AH or Jumbo. But I am so frustrated about the quality and freshness. One example: I bought this yesterday... It is the same with berries and other "soft" fruit. The pears and appels on the other hand are just tasteless and with no smell.
Hello all, recently I did a Polysomnography (vaste polysomnographie to be precise If that matters) and as a curious person and a engineer/tinkerer, I would like to have the raw data to look into it myself. My question is, what is the proper way to ask for my data/measurements? Directly with the clinic where I did the sleep research? Use my GP as mediator? Or is there another way that I don’t know of?
I am on sick leave caused by a hostile work environment and frequent bullying at my work. After my appointment with the ARBO doctor, they told me that they will be telling my employer to assign me to a different team.
I have told my HR that I am willing to pursue a re-integration plan and join another team, based on the doctors advice. They are refusing, and saying that I need to rejoin the team that caused my illness, and complete a PIP. Needless to say, just the thought of doing so causes strong anxiety, and I have said this to the ARBO. My employer is a large organisation with a couple of thousand employees, and I can think of several other teams I could join. I dont mind doing a PIP, as long as it is with another team.
So HR keeps telling me to rejoin the toxic team, and I keep telling them that I will follow doctor's advice and join a different team. HR has now escalated to threats of dismissal since per them, I am refusing to follow their reintegration plan. Do they have grounds to dismiss me ? The doctors advice is pretty clear.
Of course, I am looking for other jobs, but the market is not great.
Hallo allemaal!
After a garden renovation, I'm stuck with quite an amount of old bricks.
What are my options to dispose of them?
I can rent a trailer for a Milieustraat trip - I understand I can rent a light one without needing any extra driving license but I have never driven one so I am a bit hesitante - or a garbage container but I was wondering if there was any company that can do the full removal for me.
I am not sure what to search on Google for this last point.
Of course they are already on Marktplaats for free in case someone needs them, but so far small luck.
Any suggestions or options that I may be missing?
Thanks in advance!
Hello everyone, hope everyone is doing great.
I bought a house in Zaandam a year ago and wondered if it is required to do a yearly checkup of the heating system (boiler, radiators, etc). In my previous country, this is required to be done at least one time a year and has a significant impact on insurance in case your house burns down or something like that.
If this is also the case here in the Netherlands, does anyone have a recommendation for a company that does that, especially for companies that have English speakers working so I can also easily have my questions answered?
Anyway, I appreciate the help in advance.
Thank you!
