Hey everyone! I have a question about naturalising in the Netherlands. Not for me but it’s something I heard about. Someone (Person A) claimed that if their stepmother (Person B. Who is naturalised Dutch) adopted them then they’d get Dutch citizenship despite being in their 20s. Is that true?
I am insured with CZ (basic care). I’m travelling to the US soon for a week, should i buy an extra health insurance or is this one enough,
Let’s say i have an accident in the US (i break my ankle (typical of me) or get run over by a car), will it be covered by my dutch health insurance?
thanks in advance
Hallo,
I am looking for vintage post stamps, I live in South Holland. I already know to check out vintage shops, but I have had 0 luck. Spent an entire day in Dordrecht checking out the vintage shops there and nothing, I didn't think it would be this difficult to find them here (as opposed to where I'm from, there are always so many in every vintage shop and selling for really cheap).
If anyone can recommend a specific store in the south Holland region (I'm not that far from rotterdam central) that would be lovely!
So my gf's grandparents are coming over for a week. I need to go to Denmark and was gonna rent a car but cant I just take their car as long as I'm insured on it? I know I'm not allowed to drive it on dutch roads if I own it and it's on non-dutch plates, but I don't own it and I'm assuming those rules apply most other places in Europe as well. So I'm thinking, I could save some money from simply driving this car up to Denmark rather than renting one. Again, assuming the insurance allows for it
What are your thoughts?
Eta: thank you all for your helpful comments. I will be filing for this 2 weeks tax exemption

Now I expected 3 cucumbers for 5 euro. Just a joke , have a nice weekend .
I’m uncertain whether a driver is allowed to use the bus lane to make a right turn. Recently, I found myself stuck in heavy traffic on a road where I needed to turn right. As I approached the intersection, I noticed that the lane on the right was marked as exclusively for buses. Unsure of the rules, I decided to stay in my lane and wait my turn along with the other cars ahead of me. However, I observed several other drivers bypassing the traffic by moving into the bus lane and making their right turns directly from there. Isn’t this a traffic violation?
Thanks.

Hi, I have read that THC edibles such as gummies are not allowed in Netherlands.
I have found this shop in Haarlem.
Is it legit and safe to consume?
I've seen a lot of complaints about behaviours in this sub recently. Please, enlighten me. I really want to understand and learn.
I've been to several concerts in the last few years in the NL and tbh, as a Latina, as I was expecting a lot more respect from Europeans/Dutch people.
Many times, back in my home country in South America, I got myself thinking if people considered many events that required some level of quietness - like in concerts (which theoretically you go to listen to the artists) - as social events and were chatting non-stop.
Now, in the NL, people are talking the whole time! Could it be because people don't see each other very often and they want to socialise? I can understand that, but you can always book a dinner before to catch up or something and respect others that paid tickets to listen to the main show when inside an event.
I wear loop earplugs and I've put on the most restrictive ones today and I could still listen to Dutch more than the music in the venue.
Perhaps that just me, what do you think about it?
Hey, i lost my bag containing my laptop at the city centre of enschede. I went to buy something at the evening market, I was tired and sat on one of the public benches, however, when I was leaving, I forgot it. I was so tired from the day and I only remembered after about an hour. I quickly rushed to the location but it was gone. Any pointers how I can get it back? I have filed a report using verlorenofgevonden.nl is there any chance that I can get it back? I’ve been riding around the city Center for over 2 hours now and I haven’t seen it on anyone.
I am simply astounded but the lack of decency and hygiene sense among a size-able minority of Dutch young population. Putting both feet up on the seat when you have someone sitting next opposite in the same seat. Chilling with nasty shoes up with both feet on the seat. Damn it! My blood boils. I politely confronted one with success. But it’s frustrating
I know I've only been looking for 2 months, and I apply to about 2 jobs per week, but it is jobs that according to what they ask I am a 'perfect candidate' and they don't even give me a chance.
Disclaimer: Although I've done an MSc in marketing, I mainly apply to Customer Service jobs, thinking that I have more chances, since I have 4 years of experience in this field.
Could it be that they consider candidates with less qualifications?
What has your experience been like?
Me and my wife are visting out family We have 3 year old and one year old Looking for nice activities for a few days before heading to texel? Thanks a lot
Hi folks, our neighbours gifted us a pie since we celebrating Diwali yesterday. We had earlier gifted them a plate of Indian sweets as well since that is an Indian custom.
My question is they have their pie in their plate and now we have to return it. Is it custom to put something in the plate while returning, for example fruit, sweets etc. Or should we return an empty plate
Well, that's the question.
I want send some authentic stuff to friends in other country but afraid it might not survive about 10 days in the mail. How would they know if it's still safe to eat? I mean, smell test would not be much of help here lol
There used to be 3 but now there's 1.
Hello everyone, tomorrow I will be moving to Venlo and I have a few questions but I don’t seem to find a subreddit group or something with more people in it….
If you can help me please, I would really appreciate it. I am trying to find a good caffe that serves pumpkin spice latte for starters 🥹
Hi, everyone
We bought our house about 4 years ago. On the ground floor, we have a tiny room under the stairs that doesn't have a fully sealed floor (it's a couple of wooden boards that you can lift up to access a crawl space under the house).
For the past couple of weeks, this room has been giving off a sewer smell. We hoped it would pass, but it's been getting worse and worse; it's the first time this happens, and we have no idea what the issue is (we lifted the "floor" and took a look on different days, and nothing seems out of the ordinary).
By any chance, has someone experienced something similar in their house? Could it be a house pipe issue, or something more complex?
Thank you in advance!
This hypothetic Eastern origin girl has been dating a hypothetic Dutch man for over 6months. He is very keen on having a relationship with this girl and says he loves her, wants to meet her many times a week, introduces her to his family and friends, has a good job and maintains a clean house. So far so green.
However the girl feels increasingly tired and overwhelmed after every date. They never go out. He almost always asks to come over to the girls place. Being from Eastern origin, she feels obliged to cook a very hearty dinner, despite her long days at work (he doesnt offer to clean after). She has a very stressful job unlike him. He works part time but earns the same as her . On a 8hrs work day he probably works 4 hrs and she 12.
He claims it is healthy to eat in instead of going out. Ofcourse she could ask him out but she would need to pay. So the choices for her is to either cook or to pay for both.
He offers to cook once in a while and invites her to his place. In the last 3 months, they hardly went out twice. She paid when she asked him out and he the other time. However she may have cooked 25 meals for him and he 10.
Those green flags keep her from breaking up. But she isn't keen to meet him nor misses him. And feels relieved when they cancel a date. She hardly sees any effort from his side even though he says he loves her.
He has expensive tastes, spends a lot on his clothes, gadgets, shoes, hobbies etc. But is very stingy with her. She on the other hand has normal taste, doesn't drink wine/alcohol nor spends on expensive clothes/bags/shoes. She is not stingy with him though, and gives him expensive gifts, great food and lot of attention.
The girl is conflicted. There are many green flags but being expected to cook every time is a major turnoff for her. Is the difference in cultures playing a role? Or is she right that this redflag outweighs all greens? Is breakup better?
Ps: she did communicate her needs but nothing changed.
As title said. I paid a lot more as service charges so they had to pay me that amount. They paid me said amount twice instead of once. I want to give the money them back but I don't want to get scammed. Can they charge back and take their money back after I pay the money to them? Should I wait specific amount of time until I pay them back?
Hi everyone! I'm planning a 9-day trip to the Netherlands around Christmas and could use some itinerary advice, especially for nature sightseeing, hotel options, and ideas on where to best spend Christmas Day. The only caveat is I’ll have to be in Eindhoven for three days to visit a friend (and stay with them) but I also want to explore other parts of the country as well. So far the other cities that come into my list are Amsterdam, Utrecht and Rotterdam but not sure how many days to spend on those cities.
What I’m Looking For:
Nature sightseeing: I’d love to experience the Netherlands' natural beauty, architectures and peaceful winter scenery. Any recommendations for good parks, or scenic areas?
Hotel Recommendations:
Christmas Day Suggestions: Which city would be the best to spend Christmas Day in? I’m looking for a festive atmosphere with seasonal lights or markets, cozy spots to relax, or special events that capture the holiday spirit.
Transport Questions: I’ve heard the OV-chipkaart is great for getting around within cities, but can I also use it to travel between cities? Or is there a better option for multi-city travel over 9 days?
Thanks in advance for all your tips and recommendations!
Hi all,
I recently started a phone contract with Youfone. Unfortunately, in the process of doing so I stopped multiple times due to not having a Dutch bank account and thus had multiple customer accounts that were unactivated. When I got my bank account, I started one contract that I was happy with.
Fast forward to yesterday, I was trying to add more megabytes to my plan when I mistakenly added my bank information to one of my unactivated accounts and activated it (their user interface is very confusing). I emailed them to cancel my “order” that I made by mistake and I was told this morning that it’s no longer cancellable and I am on the hook for a full year.
What can I do in this situation? This seems ridiculous. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!
Hey, so I purchased a ticket from Antwerp to Rotterdam on NS International. So I had a ticket with a qr code. I saw nowhere in Antwerpen Centraal to scan it. Of course when I got to Rotterdam the gate wouldn't let me out until I spoke to the friendly information pole. Help me solve my stupidity before next time. Thanks!
I live and study in the Netherlands, where my l pre-Masters program is. As the program is not so intense, I applied for a remote internship to a US based firm. However I am not sure in what legal way they can compensate me. I dont want to register as a freelancer, as that would be a long process, and the internship is only 2 months. I heard that a Dutch payroll service could be a solution, like Tentoo. Anyone in a similar situation? All advice is appreciated. (I already talked with them about the compensation and they plan on paying me, just dont know how yet)
Hi there! I was wondering what are the humidity levels inside your houses and what is deemed healthy levels in the netherlands? I have tado thermostats that measure the humidity and it’s been consistently high ( between 60 and 70%) in the last couple of weeks. I have mechanical ventilation so not opening doors/windows that often these days.
Cheers
