“Big Bang?”

Currently reading through “Astrophics for People in a Hurry” and just reached page 58 (Great read so far). I had an idea, I thought I should ask. Please correct me if i’m Completely wrong.

From the point of origin of photons and other beginning forms of matter. The universe as we know it has been constantly travelling away from its beginning. So seeing we’re basically millions of light years away from the beginning of the universe. How can we know it was just one singularity on the creation of matter known as a Bang? Couldn’t it also make sense that there is an onrushing flow of energy that is constantly creating matter at a point we haven’t been able to observe at this point in time? Say like something the complete opposite of a black hole which swallows and destroys matter, there is instead a singularity which creates matter.

Is this a viable theory?

General relativity

According to general relativity, time should pass slower on a high mass object. How much bigger would earth have to be for 1 day to be 1000 years?

Sorry if the question is a bit complicated.

Speed of light in Astrophysics for People in a Hurry.

P24 of astrophysics for people in a hurry suggests that the universe expanded to about the size of our solar system in a millionth of a second. P41 advises that nothing moves faster than the speed of light. I believe it takes about 8 minutes for our sun's light to reach earth. What am I missing that resolves these contradictory statements?

Please recommend me some debates/discussions.

My only exposure to Neil was through Cosmos, which is nice.

But then I saw The Poetry of Science and now I want more of his debates and discussions with other people.

Recommendations?

Thank-you for a great lecture!

I attended your lecture tonight in Madison, WI with my dad, and we were both very happy with your performance and overall production value. I didn't know what to expect going in, and I left very pleased with the overall message and presentation. (I didn't get my question answered, but we left very pleased nonetheless!) It definitely left a lasting impact on all of us!

edit: Pictures weren't allowed. I think it had more to do with people creating light pollution with their iPads/iPhones/etc than just the recording thing. But we did manage to snap a couple. The one of him on stage is admittedly blurry. https://imgur.com/YWwVykb,IgAkt5e

Seeing NdGT lecture in a month. Questions for those that have been before.

I hope someone who can help sees this!

I am attending a lecture by NdGT in Dallas in about a month. It's a large event; I think the venue seats about 2,000.

Has anyone been to a similar event? I am wanting to find out if I can bring a book or poster to have signed to frame.

Thanks.
