I'm about to spend 6 weeks in New Zealand and I would like to use recipes like this for my backpacking meals.
What's the easiest way to find protein and/or milk powder in New Zealand?
In my hometown they are available in basic supermarkets and grocery stores. I live in northern Europe.
Thank you in advance for your help! :)
I've recently walked both ends, it's the middle third thats a mystery...
I've been at getting into hiking and looking at buying some half decent boots at the cheaper end of the market, up to $400. It would be a mix of standard DOC tracks but also some stoney, uneven ground. What are some brands that you recommend? TIA
Kia ora whanau!
Just returned from a trip overseas and all I can think about is our backcountry. I would love some recommendations from as niche to well known stories and guides to our beautiful outdoors. This could be anything from blogs to books or even a video you have watched on YouTube. Does anyone have recommendations?

Hello, I’ll be in NZ in February with my gf and we’d like to take the van very early to Tongariro Crossing departure point to be at the top at sunrise. Do you think it would be possible to let the van there and hitchhike to come back from the finish to the start of the trail ?
Hey everyone,
I'm looking for a new tramping pack and stumbled across these two sites selling gregory packs in nz at very reasonable prices.
https://www.packsnzoutlet.com/
Just wondering if anybody has used either of these sites to purchase a pack ?
Cheers 🙂
Im in the process of redoing my civil defense/emergency supplies and seem to misplaced my metal torch in the last year or so. I have a generic one in the drawer and a small one for the car but i really want to get another quality one to pack away plus to use next time i go tramping.
Amazon is full of deciving chinese knock offs that boast impossible numbers and alot of the top reviewed ones wont ship to nz or i cant seem to find in the country.
I don't mind the lumen rating as long as it projects long enough and will work for 2-3 hours, i think my metal one was only around 1000 lumens but could light up our street, the main thing i liked was the sturdy ness of it so that is a must
Usb or battery doesnt really matter just keen for suggestions
Hey looking for a 4x4 hilux, safari, land cruiser etc
Hi Friends,
ok- I know this is already a silly and obtuse question and you're probably thinking "is this guy nuts"
I'm pretty attached to my Jeep. I've put a lot of work into it and I'm sure some of you folks who are attached to your 4x4s can sympathize. I realize that a JK might not even be the best type of 4x4 for wheeling in NZ 4x4s- but I'm crazy about the thing.
I realize that there are more stringent laws on tire size and ride height, as well as other modifications.
I also understand there are extremely strict measures for making sure no dust, dirt, or plant matter is on the vehicle (this part is going to be REAL HARD). I think I'm going to have to like...take it apart...a lot.
Can anyone direct me to information about modifications as well as anyone who has any experience in importing vehicles, bio-cleaning, or other valuable information?
Thank you!!
Does anyone here have experience walking into Otaki Forks along the track that bypasses the slip on the road?
I want to stay overnight at Field Hut in the Tararuas. The track is described as 2-3 hours each way, with 5kms extra for the track that bypasses the slip on the road.
How long will that 5kms take? Is it easy walking along the road, or a lot of up-and-down through the bush?
Looking for some good tramps in the Dunedin area, although don't mind driving a bit. Ideally looking for a shorter one (2 nights tops) as I'm taking my parents out. We are all fairly experienced, but my dad's still recovering balance etc from a head knock a few years ago, so preferably something reasonably easy walking, with no major rivers to cross. Thanks!
Hey guys. First post here. Me and my partner are looking for new hiking spots for over night tramps around the area. We've do rangiwahia hut down to triangle hut and out Deadman. we've also done roaring stag and sunrise. does any one have any recommendations for us. thanks in advance.
