Should New Zealanders be able to apply firearm licence for self-defence?

Well, I don't think that their 'gun policies' from both ACT and Labour would makes us safer from gun violence. What do you think about this topic?

Personally, the law should be change for making self-defence with any weapons of choice is a right such as guns, non-lethal weapons, melee, and pepper spray. For guns, concealed carry permit(Fully functional, and loaded) also should be introduce to the parliament.

Moving to NZ with hunting rifle

I'm looking for resources or direction for moving to NZ with my hunting rifle. My partner and I are moving in June and plan to be in NZ indefinitly. I've found info on getting a gun license but not on immigrating with a rifle. Are there steps I need to take in order to bring my gun through security? Should I have it shipped to me after the move? Any feedback would be welcome.

Any gun content creators in NZ?

Had a recent trip to America. It was interesting to witness the gun/range community there and it got me wondering if a similar (albeit legally kiwi) thing could exist in NZ?

Gun Storage?

Hey team, looking at applying for my gun license soon. Was wondering if it were possible, when I apply, to not have storage at my own home but a family members home, who has a current license? Or do I need to have my own storage at my own home to apply for my gun license?

Could be a dumb question but donā€™t want to waste my time in applying if Iā€™m gonna be stopped at the first hurdle. Thanks in advance

Hello, I want to purchase some wild venison

I'm looking to buy some wild venison for the freezer.

Please let me know if anyone can help. Or if there's a better place to enquire.

My diet is mainly meat, looking for a change from my usual beef and eggs.

Thanks!

NZ Gun Registry Starts 24 June 2023

Just got this in my email:-

As of 24 June 2023, New Zealand will have a new Firearms Registry. The Arms Amendment Regulations were published on Thursday 11 May and provide the details on how the Registry will work.

If you're a firearms licence holder, youā€™re required to provide information about your arms items from 24 June 2023.

The Registry will help us make New Zealand safer by making it harder for firearms to fall into the hands of criminals, gangs, and terrorists.

It will also give licence holders more confidence when buying or selling firearms as the Registry will let you know if you're dealing with a current licence holder and if the firearm has been reported stolen.

You must tell us about any arms items in your possession within 5 years.

There will be no charge for registering your arms items.

You have until 24 June 2028 to register your arms items. However, there are activating circumstances where you will need to provide information to the Registry within a shorter time frame. When one of these circumstances happen, weā€™ll let you know what you need to do. However, itā€™s up to you to keep your information up to date.

Go to www.firearmssafetyauthority.govt.nz/registry for more information.

...

For more information on Te Tari PÅ«reke | Firearms Safety Authority and any legislative or regulation changes that may affect you, go to www.firearmssafetyauthority.govt.nz

Not entirely sure how registering firearms will make it harder for firearms to fall into the hands of criminals, gangs, and terrorists though....

.22 barrel liner wanted

Wanting to surprise my father with a gun liner (or two) for his old .22s for his birthday. I have scoured the internet and there doesn't seem to be any in NZ and getting them into NZ also doesn't seem feasible.

Does anyone have any lying around they are willing to sell or know someone who makes them.

Cheers

Is anyone having issues logging onto this site with RealMe? Iā€™m interested in getting my licence (I know itā€™ll probably take the best part of a decade but may as well start), but the site doesnā€™t appear to work for me.

Firearms licencing team being expanded.

Just had some emails with the firearms people at police(after 9 and a bit months of waiting), they have created and are actively expanding a team of people to work through the backlog of applications for firearms licences. It's a step they should have taken a long time ago but it's still a positive change. Also if anyone is looking for a half decent paying job, police are hiring lol.

Gun law Repeal

Do you think it is possible with Act and National as a coliation possibly reverting the absurd gun laws introduced by Labour?

Act seems in favor of reverting these gun laws however, if they do indeed manage to get in a coliation, does it realistically seem like a possibility these changes would occur?

Private Property Shooting

In New Zealand, can I legally discharge an A cat firearm on my private property (Home of Residence) as long as there is sufficient land and no risk of shooting onto another property.

I wish to fire Rimfire, such as 22lr semi autos for fun, possibly make a small little range. Is this legal or am I legally only allowed to fire at a range?

Hunting culture in NZ

G'day all. Sorry if it is the wrong spot to post but I am an Australian looking for a shift to a different part of the world. I already know that overdue v people are pretty good over there. The thing is though hunting and fishing is a big part of my life in Australia. I can basically go hunting for pigs and buffalo for meat whenever I like up here and geese/ ducks in season. If I lived in a reasonable town in NZ would I have access to public hunting grounds where I can hunt solo of my own accord without having to have access to private property or ballot systems?

Is hunting a regular activity you can do or something you have to plan in advance like a holiday?

Are there any cultural peculiarities that would differ between Australia and NZ? Are feral animals treated more like game or is it more open slather like in Australia? I am happy to pay permits and licencing fees but I don't like paying exorbitant money for access to land.

New to buying and owning guns

Hey guys, I'm new to firearms collecting and am wondering where I go to buy(/sell) guns, how to figure out fair pricing and what the normal practice is here for buying off other people(most of the advice I find on this is very US-centric). I'm mostly interested in WW2 and earlier guns rather than the modern stuff and I'm aware of gun city, but I'm looking for more online resources where people would be listing their guns or talking about collecting in general.

Also if anyone knows how much a good condition lee mk 1* is worth it would be great to know that as well :-)MK

Possible legal shotgun mags?

Hey, I was thinking, according to the specific wording, a shotgun is prohibited if it has "a magazine (singular) that holds more than five rounds" and this capacity is measured by the chamber size, i.e. if it is chambered for 3 inch shells, it can hold up to 5 3 inch shells,

Here are a few ideas I've had:

Firstly, are you allowed to ghost load a shotgun? As, in once we have 5 in the tube, we put one directly onto the feeding ramp before lading one in the chamber, 5+1+1 capacity, giving it a total of 7 shells? So technically, you only have 5 in the magazine itself, the shells in the chamber and on the feeding ramp don't count, right?

Also, I heard Aguilla mini shells are available in new zealand. For every 1 three inch shell you could, you can load around 2 of these shells. Following the word of the legislation, is it possible to load up 10 mini shells into your shotgun chambered for 3 inch shells just as long as holds a maximum of 5 3-inch shells?

Last but not least, I heard the Kel-Tec KSGs had to be modified to hold 2 shells in one magazine, 3 in the other for a total of 5 rounds. But according the specific words of the legislation, a shotgun is prohibited if it has "a magazine holding more than five rounds." The KSG has two separate magazines. So technically, you could have 5 shells in each tube for a total of 10 rounds because the gun doesn't have a magazine that holds over five rounds, it has two magazines, each one only holds 5 rounds (hence it just happens to have a total capacity of 10 shells). So if we followed the specific wording of the legislation, this configuration would technically be allowed!

I'm not sure whether any of these ideas are valid, but I hope you like them :)

Thank you very much!

P.s I'm not situated in NZ, I'm in Australia, really sorry to hear about what's going on with you guys about your guns :(
