With Soes send off after the matches today it seems inevitable that OWL as we know it is finished. I wanted to thank those who still come to this Reddit where I ramble off match threads and any notable NY news, I know it’s been a rough few seasons, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.
OWL has been a major part of my life, and I was able to connect with people from all over because of this. I’ve said it before, but thanks to all of NY’s players and staff, it’s been fun and an honor being a fan, even with all the ups and downs, here’s hoping tier 1 OW continues on.
Unfortunate end to the season going 3-1 in playins. We weren’t able to deal with Alphayi on Genji today, and he just had free reign over the lobby.
This is a sour end to what could be the last of NYXL or OWL as a whole depending on how the off-season goes, wish they could have had a lower bracket run, or atleast got a win or two before dipping out of the competition.
To all the players and staff, I’m proud to call myself a fan after this season, went in as the underdogs who people thought would be bottom two of the standings, to having multiple upsets and proving everyone they’re a solid team and making it into playins.
Here’s hoping there is some form of NYXL in the future, GGs go next. NY fighting
Today the team clawed their way into a very close 3-2 win against Titans, titans did troll a bit on Map 2, but NY were able to take advantage of some shortcomings and take the win today.
Fits was insane on both Illari and Sojourn today, doing some Fleta Deadlifts and turning maps around.
Kellan anchoring point and taking space on both Orissa and Sigma, hitting insane Accretions and surviving so much pressure.
Creative on Zen is a menace, dude is a bloodthirsty support and I’m here for it.
This cinches the team into playins, no longer having to wait and have other teams decide their fate.
Super pumped to see how far they’ve come. GG go next. NY Fighting!!
Unfortunately the team couldn’t get back to back reverse sweeps, there were some unfortunate issues today with whiffed EMPS and holding some ults too long and then subsequently using all ults at once.
Luckily the team has a break to the end of the month, which there’ll be a new hero and mega, so here’s hoping everyone’s on equal footing and we can win the last matches of regular season.

Today the team rallied after going down 0-2 and pulled off a reverse sweep on Gladiators.
From a full hold on Dorado on dive, to a pretty dominate Rein Rush on Llijang, the team seems to be hitting their stride.
Fits farmed EMP time and time again, and actually pulled out a decent pocket Tracer so Seicoe could play Echo
Seicoe was solid and was getting elim after elim on every hero he played today.
Shockwave with the Map 5 tag in was able to be a menace on Hanzo and Sym
Kellan played a multitude of heroes and was able to make big plays.
Ojee redemption arc incoming, man has had a glow up since leaving Defiant, great on Lucio and was able to shut down Kevster
Creative is a freak on Ana, farming Nano, getting clutch sleeps and crazy Antis.
Here’s hoping they can continue this momentum. GG go next. NY fighting!
Unfortunate weekend for the team going 0-2, but every match they’re steadily improving.
They lost 3-1, and put up a crazy fight on hybrid, Florida is arguably a top 3 team, so then winning isn’t unexpected. Florida was just able to get string together fights better and be able to punish.
But NY was scrappy the entire time not making it easy for Florida aside from Push. Here’s hoping a week off gets them the proper rest/prep they need for their next matches.
Everyone played great today and I’m super happy with how far they’ve come.
Gg go next. NY fighting!
Unfortunate 3-0 today for the team, they did put up a fight against Houston and didn’t fold instantly.
Big issue for the team is point presence. C9’d when they had advantage and didn’t cap the point. When NY was in control of the tempo they were holding their own against Houston, but when Houston put the pedal to the metal NY couldn’t keep pace.
Hopefully they can recover for their match Sunday. Gg go next. NY Fightjng!
Back to back 3-0’s this week, looks like they’re finally coming together under Changoon/Amir
Honestly wasn’t a close match today. It was player diffs across the board.
Kellan was able to dismantle the backline time and time again, now he finally has proper support and follow up with both the DPS and Supports.
Fits trolled a bit on the Echo pick, but was able to farm EMP insanely fast and get value out of most of them.
Seicoe was winning 1v1s across the board and was able to pulse crucial targets, his echo today was to notch as well.
Creative was always getting value out of his bio grenades, he was able to keep both Ojee and Kellan alive in situations where they had no reason to survive.
Ojee has slotted into the team perfectly and has shown to be an upgrade over Lep/Halo so far. He taxi’ing Kellan around and straight into the backline where they had no answers for.
This is the first time in a long time that the team has looked this confident, and have the casters and fans see they’re a team to contend with.

After a long break the team comes back with a relatively clean and easy 3-0 against Vegas today.
They utilized all their players today and no longer had Fits in support jail.
Control was total dominance with very little pushback from Vegas, the team ran out on brawl and decimated the competition.
Hybrid they had an unfortunate C9, but on defense they were able to hold their ground and hold point right up to the buzzer.
Escort they were able to full hold, and then quite easily push it through for the win. This was also Aniyuns debut and she now ties Chipsa with 100% win percentage.
So far the team is starting to look more promising with Ojee joining the roster, being able to easily swap between Brig/Lucio helps so much, making it so Fits doesn’t swap roles constantly.
Aniyun being in the back pocket for double flex is great, this allows the team to be at full strength instead of having a MS or Fits flex to the flex support.

Man today was a total flip of yesterday, they looked somewhat strong on Map 1, but afterwards just fell flat unfortunately
Whether it was uncoordination or weird map choices, it just didn’t work out today.
I’m proud they were able to make it past round 1 in the knockouts, hopefully they are able to recuperate during the break and figure out some shortcomings.

NY came back with a vengeance and beat Toronto 3-1, the team had super strong mentals and were able to turn around what could have been a full hold to completing the map and almost fully capping it in OT.
MVP had to be Shockwave, man had the game of his life on Havana and was able to open so many fights, even when they were down a member, he was shutting down the opposition at every opportunity.
Fits went crazy on both Hanzo and Sojourn, he played into the rein and was able to make openings and get value when he absolutely shouldn’t have.
Seicoe was able to punish pushes and was able to swap to the tracer when needed. Had some questionable blizzards, but was able to make the most of them and get value
Kellan won the tank match up, and even though he had some questionable ultimates, he was able to stay alive and force point presence shifting the Defiants focus.
Lep had a good game and was being a Reddit Lucio, man was in the back line of Defiant constantly, he was able to distract UV enough on Havana to the point where he was unable to heal or get any value.
Creative is starting to give me peak JJonak vibes, he’s able to be deadly and is able to keep the team alive when they should crumble. He’s been one of the most consistent players on this roster.
Here’s hoping we can continue the lower bracket run this weekend.
NY Fighting!!
Unfortunate series for the team, losing 3-1, after coming out swinging for map 1 and attack on map 2 they lost their steam and were no longer in control of momentum.
Titans looked cleaner than us today, there were good showings from everyone, but once things started to come down to the wire it seemed they lost their cool and got nervous.
Unfortunate after the showing against Justice, they’re still able to compete in knock outs and are gonna go up against Defiant, which hopefully they can win. Now they need to win four games to be able to go to Midseason Madness, here’s hoping they clean up some of their plays.
Gg go next. NY fighting.
Sorry for being a little late with the post, but the team bounced back after a tough loss last week and get a clean sweep against Justice.
Kellan was able to flex between Rein/Ram/Winston and look great on all three. Able to diff both Mirror and Benbest.
Fits was able to pull map wins on both support and DPS, when he’s on fire on DPS he’s able to shut the lobby down, and he was honestly able to hold his own on support.
Seicoe went psycho, and was crazy on both Mei and Tracer diffing Alphayi’s Mei by a decent margin.
Shockwave was good on everything he played tonight.
Creative is playing out of his mind trying to show that he should be in the talks for top 5 supports this year.
Lep while dying first in a few important fights, actually ended up being beneficial because he was able to taxi/Ult to contest point and pull the win out.
It looks like Justices plan of Alphayi go kill didn’t work out today.
Looks like the teams finally gelling together and starting to gain traction. They’re finally showing what they’re made of.
NY fighting!!
We fumble a 2-0 lead and end up being reverse swept, the team went from being in the drivers seat to constantly being on the back foot. This was a spaghetti drop if I’ve ever seen one.
There were some highs today, but just as many lows and fumbles. I love this team, but FITS support isn’t it. He doesn’t have the support mindset, even if he can mechanically do it, there’s Aniyun in the back who’s a dedicated flex support main.
This was a very winnable series, but set back after set back, wasted Ult after Ult led to the reverse sweep. This was more a NY loss than a Shock win imo. Hopefully this is a wake up call to the coaching staff, either drop trying double flex, or swap one of the other two support players in.

We play 3-1 Overwatch. Salt of the earth, punch the clock, consistent 1-map loss OWL. We lose a map, guess what? We'll win three, too. But don't get too excited or let it go to your head. No long map-winning streaks here, no sir. That's hubris, which this burning-red, hard working New Yorker team doesn't have. A few wins in a row, these guys, true to form, will balance it out with by dropping a map. Yes sir, that's my 2023 New York Excelsior. A good, honest 3-1 Overwatch League team.
But seriously this match was way too close for comfort. I don’t know what Changoon is cooking, but he needs to chill with FITS on support when we have four support players on the team.
Map 1 and 4 weren’t really close, with Map 1 they only lost one team fight iirc, but they shouldn’t have lost on Blizz world, looked like a clear miscommunication on who to contest point in OT.
Here’s hoping tomorrow they come out firing on all cylinders against Shock.
NY fighting.
Today was the first win of the season, the team won 3-1 with a small fumble on control, but they picked up speed and ran through the rest of the match.
Everyone out performed their mirror on the other team
Kellan showed up on multiple tanks and was able to make enough space for both Seicoe and Fits to do what they needed.
Fits went crazy on the Legs, Ashe, Hanzo and even Widow opening multiple fights for the team
Seicoe has been improving on Tracer and his Mei was able to cut off the other teams front/back line for easy elims.
Creative was able to get so much value from his antinades and Lep has been looking solid on Brig and was able to bail the team out many times with perfectly timed beats.
This is just the start for the team,
NY Fighting!
