a class i couldve sworn i successfully registered for is suddenly closed without me in it. it also doesn't show the option to join the waitlist. does this mean the class was removed entirely? it also doesn't show in the class catalog search anymore
Any good ENG 111 and MTH 154 professors for loudoun campus? Is it good to take online classes for these subjects or in person?
I thought it could help some since classes enrollment opened up.
Frederick Terranova (Loudoun) - BIO 101. EXACT study guide to the test. His objectives on study guide can be copy and pasted from his powerpoints. 50 test questions with T/F and a few extra credits. Only con he’s very strict on attendance and being on time, but understands emergencies. Not the nicest when asking questions, but just ask he’s just like that. Didn’t take him fully bc of some money issues, so didn’t get to see the final exam.
Zeinab Bandpey (Woodbridge and I think Alexandria) - MTH 161 Pre Calc. Loved her out of everyone. Teaches very well, gives exact study guide to test only 20 questions, she’s open to any and every question so don’t be shy. Answers emails and grades fast. Don’t use her tutor in class, he sucks so bad.
Nicolas Sborz (Online) - SDV 101 and also does Medical Terminology. Easiest class for 101 ever. Doesn’t require too much work. Emails fast.
Corinna Rupert (Alexandria) - BIO 101. She’s the nicest woman ever, she explains well but if you have a problem with over explaining like me, she may not be the best fit for you. She claims you’ll know what to write down bc she emphasizes it, but it’s hard to tell. Study guides don’t match tests. Make your own questions from the powerpoint. It sounds bad, but she’s a good teacher. Labs are very easy and fun with easy quizzes. Gives video clips to understand things better for each section. Also does friday 10-12pm sessions for help. Not a lot of homework at all. Scantron tests. Don’t really need textbook at all
Brianna Artz (Zoom) - PSY 230 Psychology. She’s hands down amazing. Open note tests. Uses achieve and has a small target to reach regardless of the grade you get, you receive an A just for completing. Has a quiz with each learning curve, but gpt is your best friend 😉. Weekly journal entrees about what we relate to in class. Final Exam will be open note.
Enrolling in classes was way easier earlier. This new ui interface is really messing with me. I couldn’t get to enroll in new classes cuz I can’t find the enroll in classes option anywhere. Is it only me who finds it frustrating or it’s the same case with everyone else ?
Monday (Nov 4th) is my last chance to drop PSY230 and receive no refund but I’ll get a grade of W. I have an exam due tomorrow and feel less than prepared. I feel like I can’t study enough to pass it and I really need to pass it as I did awful on the first exam. I think I should drop the class and retake it next semester or in the summer as I need it to apply for the nursing program. Any suggestions?
For background this is my first semester, I take most classes online except 1 which is on campus.
I was thinking lately about the constant posts about being unable to make friends, and its totally relatable! I think with the increased pressure we get as students, anxiety from talking to people, etc.
However, I think I have a pretty good idea. (˶◜ᵕ◝˶)
Let's just use my post to promote ourselves to our other peers! I have so far made a couple friends just by commenting on it with an invitation to friendship to the user. Shoutout to those who took the initiative to request message me, because you're a lot cooler than you might think. (๑ > ᴗ < ๑)°ᡣ𐭩 . ° . !!
Just reminding each other to keep it civil.
I think the simple guidelines should be:
I'll go first, because more friends the merrier for me. I love having people to talk to, I love having friends.
Hello! My home campus is Loudon Campus and I'm in the Business Administration program. I like to crochet, listen to kpop, watch anime (windbreaker ftw), and spending time with my dogs. A fun fact about myself, I have an ongoing streak on Duolingo of 932 days. You should befriend me because I can initiate conversations, and I make a good shoulder to cry on for my friends that are going through low periods. PM me anytime!
Any professors that you recommend to take for BIO 141?
hii guys so i’m 18 and currently a freshman. my parents took a while filling out the fafsa because of a missing tax form, so it still hasn’t came back😐
i am working 2 jobs to try to pay off all of my tuition. we’re not poor, but i wouldn’t say we’re middle class either. can anyone advise me on what to do? im tired of working so many hours just to spend all of my paychecks paying over $2500 per semester🥲 i also have a car that im trying to pay off , idk what to do.
Has anyone taken this course and done the project? I graduated nvcc a few years ago and took this course, but I dont have the ERD and code for it anymore.
Anyone willing to share their SQL project?
I have to take this class Advanced Database Management in person, but the only option is to take it with professor Carla Speights who’s has terrible feedback on rate my professor, any IT major know if I can replace this class with any other class? This is my last semester at NOVA and if I don’t take the class I will have to spend the summer semester with only one class.
is wicks a good professor??
Hello,
I am a senior in high school who's taking DE courses, and also applying to colleges. I was wondering whether I have to send my official NOVA transcript through Parchment to every single college i'm applying to, or only the ones that have requested it? Thank you.
Im taking ITN 170 for spring semester but my only choice is Nasser Maksoud for in person. Has anyone had him? Is he good? Or should I take this class online.
After the spring 2025 semester, I’ll have a few classes left to take in order to graduate from nova. I’m planning on taking those classes during the summer, but will I be eligible to apply to GMU in March for the Fall 2025 semester? Or would I have to apply for the Spring 2026 semester?
They can be on zoom or completely online as well... please share experiences
Is it better to take this class on zoom or completely online? Is the content mostly on Cengage?
DO NOT TAKE HIM!!! there are many things I could say but first his grade percentage distribution is horrible: homework is 15%, tests are 50%, the final is 30% and attendance is 5% and he sends a fuck ton of hw there are 3 tests (he drops the lowest one).
Second on top of all that he doesn't give out study guides, he just tells us to "bring questions" which makes it so much harder than it needs to be.
And last he goes so fast in his lectures it's hard to copy the problem and keep with him at the same time (he writes down all of it on the board so you can't go back on a ppt or anything) and after all that you still end up teaching yourself or learning from a tutor.
If you want people to join your clubs (and from what it seems like in here, WE DO!) you have to put some actual core information on the flyers like the name of the club, where it meets, who the advisor is, etc.
You can't just put graphics and a QR code. Not everyone is wandering around waiting to take photos of QR codes. Some of us have secure phones. Some of us have NO PHONES.
I would love to join the GIS club at Loudoun. Everyone always complains about the social life at Loudoun. I can't join! I'd love to! Why can't I join?
Because . . . They don't put a SINGLE item of information on the posters about the club!
No email, no date where they meet, no advisor information, nothing. What do they put on there? A F*CKING QR CODE.
QR CODES ARE NOT SECURE. They do not auto update and they're often hosted somewhere non-permanent.
I can't go around downloading random apps or plugging in random USBs to my terminal. I can't take pictures of random QR codes, either, it's not secure.
I would love to socialize at NVCC and open my friend group to the people at NVCC. THEY MAKE IT FREAKIN IMPOSSIBLE!
It seems like literally every single poster has a QR code, is this some sort of "rule" like if a campus club posts something it has to have a code? Who do I talk to about this to get it changed?
So I know the acceptance rate for transfers from VA ccs is like 50%, but being out of state and only a resident of the state, does that mean I have a lesser chance in comparison to a Virginia cc student (in state.)
Look, if you want easy grades with no retained information on how to do excel then take this guy.
Every class he'll do a WSJ video, and he has us do a sentence or two for 2 points extra credit. That's nice of him, but can this help us retain information on excel? (Spoiler alert: No.)
He encourages we do the exams before we do the modules, and he curves the exam and gives 100% for the modules it covers.
The problem with this is that you. are. not. retaining. anything.
i swear to god i have had to use youtube to do exam walkthroughs, because it's quite literally just like that.
if you could care less about excel, go for this guy. he's not inherently a bad guy, but he's really disorganized and doesn't really know how to teach as he's a student himself (albeit, different institution. He goes off on unrelated rambles, seems clueless, and a bit boring that you're just begging for him to go through attendance so you can slip out of the class.
I hear a lot of people say that the classes at NVCC do not prepare you for Calc 3 and first CS class you take after transferring. Is it better to just start at GMU?
Are there the following classes on Summer Semesters?
Thanks
Any recommendations for BIO 141 ?
If anyone else would like to learn how to “talk to others on campus”, “make friends” or simply learn basic social skills, feel free to message me.
Just keep in mind, Im also a busy student and would need to be compensated for my time/knowledge.
Regardless, Im happy to help. Let me know what you need and we’ll take it from there!
Anyone have the textbook for this course or know where I can find it?
I'm taking an online class for CSC 221 and we need zybooks for the class. When I go to the NVCC bookstore page after I login to canvas so I can enter the ISBN code given by my professor it tells me I have the zybooks in the NOVA All Access, so when I go to that website and click on "access your personalized course materials", it brings me to a page where at the top left corner says "Alexandria Campus Bookstore" even though I'm registered at the Annandale campus. How do I change the location because I'm already behind on some assignments?
I know this has been mentioned numerous times, but my anxiety needs to hear it for itself. I can just walk-in to an advising office? No appointment? What about now, where I'd assume they'd all be busy as it's time for the next semester classes to be chosen? Am I assigned to an advisor? Should I hear different opinions? Too many questions that keep me up, thanks to anyone in advance.
Is anyone currently taking her MDE 61 & MTH 161 Class How was her exams were they open book, did she allow you guys a cheat sheet for the formulas, etc and how many questions were them.
I genuinely chose mainly online/Zoom classes because I’ve been having terrible luck making friends. I don’t know if maybe I’m doing something wrong that I’m not acknowledging, but please man… 😭🙏🏽 I promise I’m a really cool, low-maintenance guy. Even if we just hang out once a year, I just want at least one person to hang out with and mainly study with.
I'm taking ITN 170 for spring semester for loudoun campus, but which professor is good? My only option is Nasser Maksoud, is he good? Or should I take this class online?
