Hey so bit of a rant here, is anyone else beyond frustrated with the current situation on campus?
We’re paying €40 a year for parking permits, and yet there’s literally nowhere to park. Students are being forced to park on curbs and are now getting clamped left, right, and center. It’s honestly ridiculous – we pay for parking, but the university clearly hasn’t accounted for the extra students on campus this year, especially given the challenges with accommodation and public transport. Where’s the planning? (I do understand the governments green initiative plays a role here but there is no transparency on plans of action regarding the current situation.
And when we’re not fighting for parking, where are we supposed to study? There are barely any available study spaces, and the ones that do exist are packed. Trying to find a spot to work is becoming a daily battle, and it’s impacting everyone’s ability to actually focus and succeed academically.
The current campus experience doesn't seem to line up with Maynooth University's 2018-2022 and 2023-2028 Strategic plans in certain areas:
“Our goal is to provide a vibrant, sustainable, campus environment that is rich in learning, culture, heritage and nature, with modern, inclusive facilities and infrastructure commensurate with the needs of a growing community of students, staff and visitors, by implementing our Campus Master Plan and capital development program.” (Maynooth University Strategic Plan 2018–22)
"We are here to serve our community by responding to the needs of our students and society, and by creating innovative programs of study that meet students’ needs and reflect modern ways of learning and living. We educate our students in an inclusive environment in which everyone can thrive personally and intellectually, in which they have a space to understand themselves as people, as engaged citizens and as independent thinkers." (Maynooth University Strategic Plan 2023-2028)
While i believe the university is excelling on the academics side of things, it feels like we're falling short in other areas. For example, the food situation is kinda just sad. The lack of healthy food options on campus is frustrating – how are we supposed to eat well and stay energized with such limited choices?
I really don't want to come off as overly negative, I've loved my last few years in MU, but if feels like were currently hitting a wall with students needs that arn't being addressed.
I would love to hear if anyone else feeling the same way? or has any thoughts on how things could improve.

This is my lonely hearts ad for Irish participants for a global study on internet regulation preferences. I'm hoping the NUIM community can help out!
I am working on a psychology study in 26 countries and am looking to gather Irish participants from across the country. It takes only 5minutes and helps keep Ireland on the map in this kind of cutting edge research!

Shout if I can help give more information or context for the work! Thanks in advance!
How’s the engineering course here, I know it’s electronic engineering and I want to know how it it like and if it’s similar to electrical engineering cause I heard they’re both different in their own aspects
2nd year cs student, who is probably on the brink of burnout. This semester was tough for me, my concetration went down the drain, procrastination hit an all time high and in general, I’m just tired and haven’t done as well as I should have.
I might have to repeat the year, and I was wondering if I don’t pass some exams in August, do I have to repeat every module I have taken this year again or only those I failed? I need to know my options, I’m not sure if I’ll be bothered to redo everything again after this semester.
I recently got conditional offer from Maynooth and wanted to get acquainted with others in the same boat as me, so that we can help each other in this journey. And if other members of this subreddit has any advice for us newcomers.
P.S. I am an International student from India, 22M, no work exp, 8.48 CGPA grade
Calling all Irish Third-Level Students (8 min survey)!
There's a gap in understanding how drugs affect college students.
Help a UCC student bridge the gap! Take this short, completely anonymous survey to share your experiences. It will help us learn more about drug use, motivation, and confidence.

Hi everyone, I'm trying to collect participants for my final year research project and I need the help of Irish University students. If anyone could take 5 minutes to fill out my survey, I'd greatly appreciate it! It looks at drug use in university students and how different factors may predict drug use. Thank you for your time.
Hi everyone 😊 I hope you’re all having a lovely week so far!
It is Eating Disorder Awareness Week this week and we are trying to raise awareness for something called orthorexia - which is a disordered eating pattern wherein people become obsessively fixated on “pure” foods. Very little is known about orthorexia in an Irish context which is severely impacting the provision of appropriate care.
I would be very grateful if anyone had a spare 5 minutes to take part in our short survey which is completely anonymous. ANYONE aged 18 or over and living in Ireland can take part - whether you experience eating related issues or not. We are finding it difficult to get the number of participants required (200 more needed!) so your contribution would really make a difference.
You would help us to learn more about something that is vastly under-researched in Ireland which would be very much appreciated.

Thanks so much, I really value your time🌻
Do you know if there is any site like Unsplash but for videos that are not copyrighted so I can use them on my presentation?
I really need your help. I will relocate soon in Maynooth Ireland as a student, and I have no idea where to search for accomodation.
I've been looking at places to rent around Maynooth. Theres a bunch of 2-6 bed properties for not completely unreasonable money, but as I'm only going into first year, I dont know any other students. Let me know here if you'd be interested in grouping up in a house search.
p.s. sorry if a brand new account looks weird, I dont use reddit normally, I only made it to post this.
Hey I live in Adamstown and am going to be commuting to Maynooth in the academic year. Was wondering if anyone else drives down and would be interested in letting me carpool and contribute some money to fuel/parking?
Many thanks
Hi, I am currently to get five more respondents for my survey in order to finish my research. The survey looks at the effect of participant’s favourite health and fitness influencers (this also includes sports stars they follow or people related to mental health) on their purchase intention of products they promote. The survey only takes 3 minutes and I would really appreciate it
Hi for my Masters I am looking for participants to take a survey on COVID-19 and wellbeing.
It is open to everyone over 18 years who lives in the Republic of Ireland. You can take part whether you have had COVID-19 or not. (Thank you in advance for supporting my research)

We are a group of Masters and PhD students from UCD and UCC who are conducting research to assess how concerns about sustainability and climate change impact the food choices of consumers. I would greatly appreciate your time and effort by participating in the survey, which takes 10 minutes to complete and can be found here:
https://ucc.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_3aTWhqj3kkZsWdU?s=m
There is also a second part to the study that gives participants the option to sign up for a 40 min lab session at the end of the online study (free food involved!) and can take place in either UCD or UCC!
Thank you all for your time and consideration!
I have just finished my first year in Maynooth and wasn't really all that happy with how it went. Don't get me wrong, I love the college and I loved studying there but 2 of my 3 subjects that I had chosen at the start I began to hate and I was unable to switch them no matter what I tried. Is it possible to repeat the first year again with different subjects?
Student from Croatia here! Next year I'm planning on going on Erasmus programme and Maynooth university is one of my choices. Are here any psychology students who could tell me something more about the course? :) What is student life like, how easy it is to find a decent accommodation, how the prices are, ect. I appriciate any helpful comment!
I didn't do very well on the first CA - can anyone share their tips or strategies? I've tried searching for problems to practice on but they're so specific and math heavy that everything Google shows are things like math proofs for elliptic curves.
If i do a BSc in biotechnology and biopharmacuetical science which is in LIT would i be at a lesser advantage than somebody doing a BSc of biotechnology in university of getting a well paid job… Would i also be able to do a MSc in biotechnology? Just hope somebody can help me becuase i’m not sure about the course as i’m starting college soon
Anyone do the MH601 computer science through arts course because I just got accepted and haven’t got a clue. Is it any good
Hi all,
I am a mature student starting in Maynooth this October. I've been looking on Daft, Rent etc and the pickings on accommodation are pretty slim. The letting agencies have said a lot of the rooms are going to Professionals working in places like Intel, I am a little concerned as If I don't find anything I might not be able to attend :/
If anyone has a room available or knows of one I would greatly appreciate your help/ advice.
