So my family and I are moving states after living in Europe for 3 years and then WA for two. We are hoping to finally move back home to Sydney. I guess I'm looking for advice on what to do next. My 14yo has state futsal experience and obv has played in Europe, being selected for a national talent ID camp (no charge, all for free as selected by the National body).
He has been unsuccessful in getting a spot in any NPL team for 2025. We had one of the larger, better known teams say he's good but they had no space (fair enough) and then another say mid-season that things are looking promising and then no longer interested. Teams in the lower divisions didn't even return our calls.
We had a friend tell us that it's mostly all based on politics and so forth.
He's now stuck without a club unless we stay another year in WA.
Is it REALLY this hard to break into junior NPL? This is totally sh1t - there were kids at trials who toe bashed and yet we've got nothing. So many parents talk their kids up and I don't like doing that but he is above average but at the same time, he's no Harry kewell.
Just stunned we can't get a spot anywhere. Do we try again next year?
Question for Australian NPL teams - are NPL coaches able to coach their son? I heard that it’s not allowed. Does anyone have a link to rules for Australian NPL coaching?
What is the local team for the north shore?
I'm curious to know if anyone knows who could potentially have been the oldest player to be selected to the NPL. Curious to know if selection is based from teens to 25 year olds or are there people in there 30s still being selected from amateur to the NPL.
