I have a bunch of friends who are in the fisheries field (tribal to studying). When I asked them if there is nepotism in fisheries, I got a bunch of mixed responses. So does nepotism play a big role in fisheries?
As the title asks, is there a pre-Trump or pre-data removal torrent that contains all historical data from NOAA that can be downloaded and seeded?
Such a torrent exists for the CDC data and I wonder if there is a similar torrent stream for climate data.
Thank you
I'm wondering what people think and if they are considering a VERA if offered in tandem with deferred resignation.
What does an NOAA officer do? In a suv with lights?
President Musk’s retasked Twitter servers deliver delicious OPM emails after work. No investigation needed.
Email I got at my official NOAA government email from some random Gmail account...
Forget formal, anything at all? Have not seen anything from DOC or NOAA other than the initial email last Friday simply saying they would comply with the EO.
Has anybody applied to this internship for the Summer? If so, have you been reached out to regarding interviews or project selection?
I’m getting my commercial diving certs and the NOAA website says it’s not only commissioned corps.
Any insight in how I could get set up with a job diving for NOAA? Preferably any type of undersea archaeology or coral work
Anyone have insight on what might become of the CAP program (housed in the Climate Program Office) under this new administration? Thanks!
Are there any past/present pilots here that wouldn’t mind answering a few questions? I’m applying to the next direct-to-aviation boards and would love some perspective.
Considering this budget line is so large and has to be approved by Congress, my big concern is that we're all getting moved to the middle of nowhere.
The fish fry just isn't going to be the same...
I work as an affiliate at NOAA and all of our DEIA related committees and employees have to be dissolved within the next 10 days, per Trump's executive order. They are also enforcing a policy that these committees can't change their names or use vague language.
gulp got an email today from NOAA hr informing me that the Research Oceanographer position I was supposed to start in 2 weeks was rescinded. I’m a PhD in oceanography who finished last June. I was elated to get this job offer especially in the market where it seems hiring was at a bare minimum for months anticipating DT’s election.
I need to get creative here. Obviously I’m looking at contractor companies with NOAA, but where are some places that might have oceanography related jobs I might not have thought to look (not academia or federal)? For background I’m a biogeochemical oceanographer with ample modeling and GIS experience.
Starting to wonder if I should just turn to consulting for a few years until a different political climate? Should I be a barista? Who needs an oceanographer??
So, when people upload videos on YouTube of NOAA weather broadcasts from their weather alert radios, does that go against copyright laws, if the broadcasts are in fact copyrighted?
I listen to Chicago’s NOAA radio and marine forecast and regularly hear something along the lines of “respit tonight” or “respite tonight” though I can’t figure out what it is actually saying. Help is appreciated
I got a Midland weather radio and it has all five bars for reception. I get the weekly test alert, but I never receive any of the watches and warnings we get. Currently we are under a winter storm watch, but this radio doesn’t reflect that I just have it plugged in. Do I need batteries as well?
Hello,
I just tried to check the current and forecasted space weather and noticed that all graphs basically end on December 31. Does anyone know why? Link for clarification:
https://www.swpc.noaa.gov/products/aurora-30-minute-forecast
I found an NOAA shipstat log file page in https://tgftp.nws.noaa.gov/logs/ can anyone let me know what this data exactly is
Hey all! I'm just here to ask if anybody knows which weather radar NOAA typically uses because I am a huge weather nerd but I have the smallest itty bitty suspicion that my radar app is not the most highly accurate that I could be using. If you have any answers, PLEASE let me know. If else, have a GREAT rest of your day/night. Toodle-oo!!
...are you folks using to access and present the data from NOAA?
Well, it is an idea I have been having for a long time, that makes it required for Weather Radios in Homes, At least apartments and offices!
Hey folks, I work at a public library and at the beginning of each month I print the local climate data from NCEI to put at the reference desk. Other than the occasional site outage or data delay, using the old search tool has always worked out for me. When I downloaded this past August's data, the email came with a notice that the tool I use will be discontinued in the spring and they provided a link to the new search tool. It's been several months and I have yet to be able to get current data from the new tool to the point that I feel like I'm missing something obvious, that I'm searching wrong or using the wrong tool completely. I've since figured out that the new tool just doesn't have up to date information. As of today, when I went to try the new tool again, under summary for my local station it says the available date range is 1926-01-01 to 2024-10-25, and yet when I use the old tool, I was able to download data from November no problem. NCEI has the current data but for some reason it isn't accessible using the new search tool? I might end up just emailing them but I've emailed them regarding other issues and never get a response, so figured I'd come here first and see if anyone else has this problem or any insight before I do.
Hi all,
Apologies for the possibly silly question, but I’m a bit confused about the address for NOAA headquarters. On NOAA’s website, the listed mailing address is:
1401 Constitution Avenue NW, Room 5128 Washington, DC 20230
However, when I search on Google Maps, it seems that NOAA’s headquarters is located in the Silver Spring area.
Could someone clarify why there’s a difference? Also, if I plan to visit the headquarters, which location should I go to?
Thanks!
I'm currently a student in army ROTC hoping to be a pilot. I'm a environmental science major and I really want to work for noaa after my career in the military. Do they take ex military alot? And also would being a pilot help?
