I know the Linville Gorge area was pretty badly damaged in the storm, but I was wondering if this trail is open yet? It's been on my bucket list for awhile. Also, is Wolf Pit Road badly damaged? Can I get up there in a Honda Civic?
Does anyone know if Linville gorge is open right now and if there is a way to get there?
Anyone find this familiar? I was thinking the iron trail to 19e because of the apple orchard possibly? Any leads would be appreciated! Suspected location: North Carolina
Was going to go up there this weekend but can’t really find any info
Considering an Air BNB…don’t want to be in the way of any recovery efforts but also curious to know if restaurants & trails would be open in the area. Would love to bring tourism back but only if the area is ready for it! Does anyone have any up to date info (all I see is from October…). Thanks.
I am aware of the ongoing closure of South Mountains State Park, but I was wondering if anybody in the know had some information on how badly it’s been damaged? Also if they are accepting volunteers to help with cleanup?
Does anyone have any idea if Carvers Gap is open? Thinking about heading up early in the AM to go hiking tomorrow if the weather is nice.
Are bear cans still required in Shining Rock Wilderness? I know they were for a long time but I can’t find anything in searches saying they are still mandatory. Anyone know?

We are looking to plan a day hike this weekend and trying to find out if Pulliam Creek is open?
Hi. I love hiking and want to try camping/backpacking this spring. I was wondering if anyone knew of any stores near Winston that rented stuff like tents and stoves.
What’s up, y’all! My name’s Trey, 37/M, and I’m new to the area (Holly Springs). I’m looking to meet some fellow outdoor enthusiasts—hunting, fishing, camping, and all that good stuff.
If you know of any must-visit spots around here or have a group that gets together for outdoor activities, I’d love to connect. I’ve heard Jordan Lake is nice (though pretty popular), and I know there’s some public game land near Harris too- that said, I haven’t come across any hunting clubs or lodges around here that seem worth a damn.
Any advice, recommendations, tips, or just general message board bs is appreciated.
Looking forward to meeting y'all and maybe teaming up for a hunt, fishing trip, or a weekend in the woods. ✌️

Hey ya'll! I'm planning my 30th birthday weekend and I want to do a big hike on one of the days, I also just moved here 2 months before the hurricane so very much learning and re-learning post-Helene, I understand a lot of trails are either closed or not safe, I've been looking on AllTrails, but I know the internet isn't suuuuper up to date in all places so just putting some feelers out there to see what other people know. I'm listing trails that I'm interested in and would love to know the conditions of if anyone has ventured out on them, but totally open to some good 9-12 mile hike recommendations that have an amazing view to celebrate 30-flirty-thriving!
Let me know if any of these are good options with the conditions we are in right now, I'd appreciate it!
-So I know Mount Mitchell Loop is closed, well I think. -Mount Mitchell from Black Mountain via Higgins Bald / the plain ole Mount Mitchell Trail -Commissary Hill via Mount Mitchell and Higgins Bald Loop -Flat Laurel Creek and MST Loop -Turkey Pen Gap Trail
Moving to Wilmington soon and saw that this national forest isn't too far. Would anybody recommend it for a backpacking trip? I would normally either go to Uwhatrie or Western Carolina (Pisgah, Cherokee, etc.). I will still go to these for some backpacking trips, but for a quick weekend trip, I'd prefer not to have to drive as far. Croatan seems swampy, for lack of a better term, so not sure how well suites it is for backpacking. Also, are there any special considerations I should make of backpacking here considering it seems to be quite different from the other national forest I've camped. Thanks!
Going in tomorrow to help clear trails with WildSouth. AAR when I get back.
Just wondering if anyone has been on the AT at Sam's Gap since the storm? I really need some nature therapy. Thanks.
Wanted to know if anyone knew the conditions of trails In shining rock wilderness area. Specifically big east fork trail?
Does anyone know if the swinging bridge was washed out in the turkey pen area? Still closed for hiking?
do you know of any good campsites off of any forest roads in the mountains, I know of old hwy 105, but I was thinking more in the mountains, I have a 4x4 so getting there wolnt be an issue, and if you know of places that have been hit by helene then please let me know. im trying to go camping with the boys before the year is over so any recommendations will be nice. Thanks in advance
