so i have internet atm in a family members name because of a bad credit check thats not my fault long story i dont know if the apartment block i live in is locked into this provider supa do they require credit checks if i signed up with them as me and this family member are not on speaking terms and the net and my gaming is the only thing keeping my anxiety in check.
Hi I have just arrived in Australia and am looking to sign up for internet. I have been reading and some companies like dodo, etc... are pretty bad. My question is which company is the best value for money (NBN connection)? Thank you!
Here's a summary of my NBN adventure over the past 5 days.
Changed my FTTN to FTTP with Telstra
NBN Co installed and concluded install on 27th Apr
Telstra informed me that it takes 5-7 days maximum for activation
No activation by 30th Apr, made contact and was told they would look into the matter
Recieved a message from Telstra on the 30th Apr to congratulate me on my new NBN service
Also got a message saying my service had been cancelled
Made contact again, was told there was an issue with port allocation and would need to wait 24- 48hrs for the issue to be fixed
Made contact on 1st May, was told there was a port allocation issue and they would raise a job, as it wasn't raised the day before, need to wait another 24- 48hrs
Cancelled my Telstra NBN plan on 1st May, called Aussie broadband, signed up, service activated 2hrs later and costs $10 less then Telstra plan
Considering in 2023, Telstra had 31,000 employees - $23 Billion revenue...they really are a sub-par company.
i’m living in a building with 10 units and we’re currently with nbn 50 FTTC. the router that we’re using is tp-link archer c1200. i’ve connected my router and nbn with a cat6 cable. the thing is 50 isn’t enough for us. we use around 3-4 laptops constantly for work/study. i upgraded my speed from 50 to 100 but i wasn’t getting much difference. i was getting around 70-75 down and around 20 up after switching to 100 which wasn’t the expected speed. i contacted the isp and they told me that fttc is the reason behind it. i can’t upgrade to fttp as there are 9 other units in the building. i tried running speed test by connecting my laptop to nbn directly with a cat 6 cable upon doing so i was getting around 80-85 up. i just can’t continue with 50mbps. what can i do in this case? sorry English isn’t my first language.
Hi, I am a new user for Aussie Broadband and got my connection message today. I have FTTP NBN and I have a BYO TP link deco AC1200 mesh router.
When I connected to the port in the NBN, my router is losing connection, I have raised a call with them just wondering if there is anyone using the same tech as me and able to help me with it. Thanks.
Hello,

Hi all - i am signing up for a FTTN plan and just want to know if the above router will suffice? My home is double storey so opting for a router with stability + improved wifi coverage.
Well the draconian rules for the installers has foiled my install today. What a load of absolute crap. They can't do a simple conduit install if it's the slightest bit difficult.
My ten year old niece has more heart than these guys and the morons who write the install rules.
I just want to sing the praise for Leaptel.
We have just moved into an apartment in an inner Brisbane CBD suburb, and at our previous address we were restricted with our telco providers, so we were with Vodafone for around 2 years.
When we moved we did some research and found Leaptel was the best value for money — and my god, the customer service has been nothing but exceptional, and the NBN service itself is easily the best internet service we’ve ever had.
We’ve had some queries about our modem & leaptels tech support line was extremely fast to respond to them over the phone (less than a 4 min call in total), and speaking to an Aussie is so bloody refreshing.
We bought an Xbox series X yesterday and downloaded all our games (over 400gb worth), it maintained 95-105mbps the entire download in peak hours — this would be impossible with Vodafone.
Leaptel, thank you. Do not change. We’re customers for life.
Hi everyone, just wanted to ask - I have been in a back and forth with Telstra support which keep saying there is a fault with my modem; there isn’t, I am switching it off and trying to connect my parents landline to the UNI-V port in the NBN box.
However, I have just been advised by Telstra support that from March 1st (3 weeks after I raised my initial request, so I’m mad that they didn’t just understand what I was clearly explaining to them. But anyways) the NBN stopped accepting requests to use the UNI-V port directly, and all connections must be made to an ISP modem.
Is this true? Both Telstra & the NBN websites still explicitly state that connecting the landline to the NBN box is an option for FTTP customers. So why have they changed it, and not told a single person? I’ve spent a back and forward for nearly three months, and only today when raising a complaint did someone get back to me, properly addressing my request
looking to replace telstra gen 2 modem. if I purchase a modem router hybrid. will I be able to remove the nbn connection box. connected to fttc(according to nbn sites)
7 days of this. No explanation no timeframe not even any form of apology. Fucking disgraceful
Gday guys, I've been asked to provide a price to install an internal conduit for an non OF install that's scheduled down the road. I'm aware of the requirements in terms of size and type of conduit and bend radius etc.
Question is, what do I need provide at either end of the conduit? Is it a 1 way box? Or a 238 with a blank plate or what? Any non techs here that would know?
The external wall is double brick cavity, would I be best to bring the conduit down externally (client is happy with this) to eliminate trying to get a pipe down the cavity.
Cheers guys
NBN are going to come inspect it. Am I up for some costs? Something to do with the wiring. When I move the fibre cable slightly, it works again shortly after.
Moved due to shitty install spot, which they told me it was the only place they could do it. But I think they just wanted to complete an easy job.
Lemme know 👍🏽
My parents live in country Victoria.
I visit maybe 3 to 4 times a year.
Every time I visit I'm up late watching YouTube, or Netflix, or browsing Meme's. Every night at about 11 or 12 (Depending on DST crap) the 50/20Mbps plan whitch gets 48/17Mbps all day drops down to 2 to 4Mbps.
I can have my VPN on, and check and it's 2Mbps to 4Mbps
VPN off and its 2Mbps to 4Mbps
Upload speeds around 7Mbps while this is happening.
This is every night, every time I visit for more than a year, more than 2 years probably.
I feel like TPG is stealing from my family. I'd find it hard to believe two years or more of the exact same thing happening could be some network issue. What are they paying for!
I have added things over time like access points in a shed, the TESLA battery packs and solar has WiFi stuff, but that is recent, and this was happening before they went in.
I have "smart" switches around the house, but I'm the only one who uses them, they get unplugged when im not there.
I am connected VIA cable so it's not WiFi issues.
Angry IP scanner accounts for pretty much everything I have ever put on the network, all the PC's, Laptops and Smart Switches.
So I'm leaning heavily towards TPG being shitty.
Thoughts?
Hi everyone. I changed my equipment from a ZTE modem router to a 3 pack Deco mesh wi-fi system. The 2 times I have tried Speed Boost since installing the new equipment, it has not boosted the speed, even after restarting my connection. Speed Boost worked fine with the ZTE modem, didn't have to restart the connection at all. So I'm guessing it's the Deco? I'm new to the mesh wi-fi setup so I don't know much about it. It was basically just plug n play, didn't need to configure anything except add the extra nodes in the app. Any help would be much appreciated, thanks!
i can never seem to find a straight answer on this topic hoping someone could help. I have a unifi dream router set up, connected to a Telstra Smart Modem Gen 3, the Telstra modem seems like it may be dying a slow painful death or self sabotaging since I switch to super loop from them last month (it’s been rock solid for 2 years)
I’ve always wanted to find a ‘dumb’ modem, I think they’re referred to as a VDSL bridge.
It seems that most people seem to suggest a DrayTek Vigor 130/167 however I was hoping to find something with no routing etc just so the device serves its single purpose, which lead me to find these devices.
Wondering if I’m silly to try find some device that can only be a modem or if someone else suggests something similar.

The modem has 3 lights on in the back. The Online, Wan/DSL and phone lights are on but the mobile signal light is off. The front light is also off. I can not connect to the WiFi as it is just not showing up when I try to connect. I have resetted, unplugged for 2 mins and turned off none of it works. Does anyone have any solutions.
I've nominally got an appointment booked later this week. I've received the "your nbn fibre installation appointment is scheduled for ..." message twice now. It asks you to "reply anytime before 7am on the day of installation", which I've done both times with no response. Does it just not confirm your response? Does it expect me to respond specifically on installation day and not before? I'm already somewhat anxious about the whole thing because I suspect there's going to be trouble agreeing on an installation point (old house with bugger all GPOs, no conduit run because I don't know where they'll put the outdoor unit, if it's with the other utilities then that whole side of the house is bedrooms and wet rooms). I'm just after some reassurance that this is normal and I won't get skipped because the confirmation didn't go through. Hoping to at least find out where they'd like to put the unit so if it doesn't work out I can get conduit run (might even bite the bullet and get CAT6 run around the place while we're at it, if some poor soul is going to be scrambling around the roof space anyway).
I'm trying to find the best ISP for my parent's place. The wireless NBN speeds quoted by some of them when I put in the address seem ridiculous. I know they can get between 35 and 95Mbps where they are, but for example, iiNet's mid-tier plan promises 9.3Mbps. Are they throttling wireless NBN to really slow speeds? It is all really confusing. Does anyone have a good recommendation of who to use? TIA
Currently using TP-Link Archer VR1600V with have limited range on ground floor. We barely get any WiFi network on 1st floor.
I currently have a FTTP Telstra smart modem 3 connected to the NBN box in my garage, my home office is on the second floor at the back of the house on the other side so I get a bad signal there and the wifi often drops out in my office, does anyone have recccomendations to replace the Telstra modem so my internet stops dropping out in my office
So my internet stopped working this afternoon. I restarted the router (NetComm cloud mesh) and it didn’t work so I turned the power off at the point which turned off both my router and nbn box. Since I turned them back on my nbn box has been acting crazy and I still haven’t gotten internet back.
It’s going in a cycle:
And then the cycle restarts with the power light turning green and then the downstream flashing green again.
It’s been doing this for about two hours now. All the cords are plugged in and fine, nothing is loose. I’ve checked and there are no reported outages in the area and no reported issues with my internet provider.
On the router the power button, wan button and wifi 2.4 and wifi 5 buttons are solid green but the internet one is off.
Does anyone have any idea what’s wrong with it? Should I call my internet provider? Or an nbn technician?
Hi guys Recently got an ultrafast nbn from More (Eero modem). The speed is 400+mps in living room and 700+ in the bedroom where the modem is located. (Bare in mind, my NBN box is located inside of a wardrobe)
But for the life of me I cannot play online despite the speed. Ran a connection test on Playstation 5 and came out as 14mps download and 1.7mps upload. Really annoying since this thing should work like a bullet train but im having more issues than my previous provider.
Is it because the location of modem and if so, what are the options? I cannot move the box outside or do any sort of wiring (it’s a rental), and I don’t wanna connect the PlayStation to box with a 20 meter wire.
Would appreciate if anyone has any ideas…
