All things musical and theatrical, when combined.

One of my dream roles is Pilate in Jesus Christ Superstar, and I went to watch it last year and the actor playing Pilate incorporated slight metal vocal techniques and extended the note at the end of the "thirty nine" line in Trial Before Pilate. I want to try doing this song but Fry Screaming the note instead of just extending it.
I know how to fry scream correctly, but could doing it regularly in a production be harmful to my voice in the long term or short term?
Does anyone have the piano sheet music for Mein Herr from cabaret in B flat minor? I need it for a class assignments. Very much appreciated
Does anyone have any recs for musicals in the same kind of vein as Les Misérables, Natasha Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812, and Ragtime? Those really interesting, story heavy with intense lyricism and big scores?
I keep hearing a lot of horror stories about mean theatre teachers and I have a question for you: were your theatre teachers really this horrible? If they were, I’m so sorry for everything those stupid jerks put you through. I’m sorry they made you feel like you weren’t good enough to ever pursue theatre. They had no right to treat you like that. Let me tell you what I would’ve done had I been your theatre teacher: I would’ve offered you some encouragement and actually helped out with what you were struggling with. I would’ve supported you through your school year. I would’ve been a better teacher than those stupid jerks were. A teacher is supposed to help people, and based on what I have seen, all they ever did was make your life miserable. I have a feeling that they all sucked at their jobs because clearly they were Miss Trunchbull! Teachers are supposed to help people, not hurt people.
It just makes me so mad when I see stories like these!
My husband is a good but not professional violinist, and he’s on his way to sight read Sweeney Todd for a community theatre performance. He’s got an hour and 20 minutes from the time of writing this, so once he gets there, he won’t have time to play through the whole book before house opens. What are the key moments for him to look at?
I’m assuming he’s the only violinist — it’s a small theatre with a small space for the orchestra, so let’s assume he’s doing any violin solos/playing first.
In July, I got laryngitis for a month. Months on, my voice seems to get husky quickly when I sing and I can't get as high as I used to. I have to clear my throat sometimes and it gets sore. I don't know why it's done this and why it hasn't gone back to how it used to. I feel like I can't sing anymore.
Hello! Looking for sheet music for “Better Than You” from Diary of a Wimpy Kid, anyone know where I can find it? Thanks!
I am interested in studying theater/musical theater abroad and was curious if anybody had recommendations or knew of any great programs for 2025. I'd prefer somewhere with an English language but I am not picky.
So I have a few song ideas for college audition, and I’m pretty sure I need two. But here’s a few, I was wondering what you guys would recommend. (These are in no particular order)
Auditions are this spring but I wanna get a head start! 17f soprano high belt. I just want one of the female leads I don’t care which! I can sing all of the songs! So auditions song advice pls!??! No songs from the “audition song for Alice by heart or audition song for teen girls” I want to be original, fun, and jaw dropping! Thanks!
Sooo my theatre company (ages 8-18) is doing Mary Poppins the full version. Auditions are next week. Andddd I have a slot but I’m questioning my song choice. Im sing the last minute and a half of dont rain on my parade because I can see it really well and act it out. Such a fun song right?? But I really really really want Mary! This will be my 4th show with this company but my 19th show in my whole musical theatre career. I’ve never gotten a lead only supporting roles. Im 17f soprano with a high belt. So yeah questioning my song choice! IS IT A GOOD CHOICE OR NO?? HELP!!?
So I was looking at other posts, and apparently you can't do those songs for an audition. But I'm kinda confused. Why is that, is it because they are over used or something???
Hi all!! Cross posting this from r/MeanGirls, but I need some help. I'm the costumes tech lead for my high school's production of Mean Girls, as well as Cady's understudy. I'm struggling on how I'm going to accomplish the wedding-dress-to-normal-outfit on stage quick change during Apex Predator in our production, especially since our budget is so small. If anyone has any ideas, or knows how the Broadway production did the quick change so I can base ours off of that, please let me know. All help is appreciated!!!
Hi everyone! If you are looking for a fun, campy, original musical production with twists and turns, then look no further. I am part of the amazing cast for Not a Cult The Musical, and we are opening in a week! The show will run from Wednesday November 6th until Sunday November 10th at Alumnae Theatre. So, in the spring, my college is putting on "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat", and I DESPERATELY want to play one of the brothers, namely Reuben or Simeon. I'm a girl, but I'm also a low alto (can sing down to a low E and below without any trouble and has comfortably sang tenor in choir if more voices were needed) Any ideas for lower or more masculine songs I can sing to show off my belting/low voice and ability to play a male character? I can comfortably sing "Don't Let Me Go" from the Shrek musical and "Poor Unfortunate Souls" from Little Mermaid, to give a vibe for my lower voice. (This director has cast females in masculine roles before, so I know it isn't a question of whether he'll let me- I just want to show him I'm capable and secure my chances)
Hey so I’m quite new to theatre (only been in 1 show so far) but I’ve heard that milk is apparently not great for the vocal cords, I was wondering if it’s the same with non dairy milks like almond or oat. This is probably a stupid question but I have an audition coming up kinda soon and I’d like to know if I should substitute the milk I have in my coffee.
I keep seeing posts of old la duca sales on instagram. Obviously I missed the last one in July. Does anyone know if this is an annual thing? Was it just for their anniversary? When will they have another? I’m interested in getting a pair in person but want to plan my next trip around a sale time.
hi! I recently had an audition for a show and i think i did really well, but i caught a virus that has been going around my house and my school. my immune system is very weak and when i get sick i get sick bad. I have dance auditions tomorrow and callbacks on Sunday, any tips on how I can a. get better fast and b. push through the auditions while feeling sick?
knowing that ill never be a principal is so crushing. im in the advanced musical theater company at my school, and i was an ensemble nun in our production of sister act last year, and was an ancestor in addams family this year. i was also the understudy for wednesday. knowing that i was second best was both something i was happy to know, but also felt so shitty. i was grateful for it, and everyone already knew the girl who did get wednesday was going to get it. dont get me wrong, im happy to even just be in the shows, but itd love to be a principal actor even just once in my life. im a junior, i only have one more chance for a musical (next year) and two for a play (next semester and spring semester of next year). i go to a highly competitive fine arts school, and everyone is just so good. i feel like i can never compete with people here, no matter how hard i try. i feel like im not good enough. i cried so hard when i didnt get wednesday, and i didnt even realized that it mattered so much to me till that moment. maybe i sound selfish, but i just wanted to let out my thoughts here.
I am a bass/baritone and I have an audition coming up where I need two songs that contrast in style and decade. I picked ‘Stars’ from Les Mis and I need a piece that contrasts it. Any ideas? If not I think I’ll do ‘Me’ from Beauty and the Beast but I don’t know if it’s different enough.
Hey, I,m a 26 yo tenor who can sing up to a high B, I have an audition coming up for the Ahrens and Flaherty’s Rocky: The Musical and I need some auditions songs suggestions for this play, please!!
I’m a mezzo soprano and I’m looking for audition songs for Cinderella the musical (the 2013 Broadway version). I’m auditioning for Cinderella herself. Songs from the show aren’t allowed. Songs from other Rodgers and Hammerstein would be good.
Hello! I am trying to build an audition book after years without auditioning since working on cruise ships. I’m looking for song recommendations or any tidbits and tricks when building an audition book. Recently I’ve been being cast in rock/high belt shows typically villains, strong independent woman types. Have tattoos and am a taller female. Any song leads or monologue leads would be greatly appreciated 🫶😍
So as the title says, I’m a 19 year old man and I very much started with choir from ages 8-15. When I was in choir I wanted to have the lowest part SO bad and kept trying and trying. I got into theatre/musical theatre around 10 and it was still the same thing. I was getting decently low (being able to sing as Hades in Hadestown on a good day) but here’s where my confusion starts. So yesterday I was enjoying late night karaoke with some friends and we were singing songs from musicals. I was shocked when I was pulled up for duets but was able to hit these notes that I never knew I could do. We sang through the I Love You Song (25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee) and I was able to keep up with our resident tenor singing Wait For Me (Hadestown). I’ve never looked into voice lessons before but I’m now considering looking around since I have this confusion. Any advice/things I should be doing first?
From my understanding, a lot of people in musical theatre have been in choir, community theatre and/or danced for a long time/since they were very young. I can’t really do those things here (in my town), so I want to start practicing now at 17. How do I practice on my own? I watch this dude who does dance workouts and they’re really fun, but I don’t have a lot of space (it’s fine though). I also don’t know how to practice singing? I’ve tried watching YouTube videos but like I’m kind of starting from nothing and not sure what I’m supposed to do if that makes any sense, I’m already not much of a singer. And then the acting, do I just find a script and act it out or are there better ways to practice? I need to let go and not be so embarrassed, but I’m scared of being too loud and sounding silly if my parents can hear me, I guess it’s just not having any experience. So does anyone have any ways they like to practice? Other than taking classes?
(Extra: After this and the next school year, so after summer 2026, I think I want to do this school year that doesn’t focus on grades, you just do it for fun. And I want to do one that does theatre, some I think will accept me even though I’m inexperienced I think, but yk I’d like to have some idea of what I’m doing)
TLDR; Ways for someone (who can’t take classes) to practice singing, dancing and acting? (No prior experience)
If you bothered to skim over this and reply, thank you so much. I would be so grateful
Hi all, not sure if this is allowed here, but I couldn't really contain my confusion and frustration anymore and need to get advice somewhere.
I'm in college right now and had been doing both acting and pit orchestra during my high school years. I spent so much time on it and loved doing it every production. But after I came to college I was essentially cut off. I'm in a big university with 30k+ students, and the school's theatre programs won't even consider auditioning a non-music major like me. There are some amateur theatre troupes/clubs on campus as well but so far their presidents have refused to audition me as all of them know a lot of experienced music majors who are desperate to get performance resume lines. I've reached out to several local community theatres and they've either ignored me or told me that they're only hiring professionals. I can't even get into any level of bands because they're all under the school of music and they've refused to grant me a spot since they have to prioritize music majors.
Am I really just doomed for the next few years? Can I find people online? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hello! Hope you're well. My highschool is doing Little Shop, but I'm struggling to find a one minute monologue for Seymour. I'm a 15 year old female singing "It hurts me" from All Shook Up, and I'm also wondering if that's okay to sing for Seymour. I just need a one minute monologue now.
