We are a group of people engaged in collecting as much digital music as possible. Some hoard music because they believe that the internet will not remain free and open in the foreseeable future. Some collect purely for rare and obscure music, to preserve pieces which might otherwise be lost in time. Others just wish to learn about music formatting, organizing and pirating.
Whatever your persuasion, if you hold an interest in anything relating to the above—then you'll fit right in!
Make sure to check out the wiki for more info.
Do not beg for access to music or make demands regarding requests. Users frequently choose to generously share music through various outlets. Do not harass other members of this community for their music or access to their files, or request access to files in a way that comes across as entitled. It will not be tolerated.
Do not request or offer invites to trackers or other private music sharing sites. This is not the place for requesting invitations to music trackers. Content revolving around this topic will be removed.
Avoid posting simply to brag about the size of your music collection. Content that solely positions itself to show off large amounts of content do not contribute to the conversation revolving around collecting music and auxiliary parts of music. It is approaching spam. Content in this style must either have a longer text post/comment attached to it discussing the collection in some depth or be substantial in some other way.
Talk to moderators before posting about projects. Some things are often best kept under wraps, such as siterips of major music sites. Publicizing the work being done behind the scene can often jeopardize the project or put those doing the work in legal danger if they are not very careful. It can also put the subreddit in danger. None of these things are good, so consider messaging the mods before actually posting about projects like those discussed above.
Be specific, concise, and polite when requesting music. See this post https://www.reddit.com/r/musichoarder/comments/brsqx6/if_youre_looking_for_something_specific/. If you have questions about this rule, or message the moderators.
Self promotion of music, playlists, services, products. Self promotion of music, services, playlists, products, or other digital or physical materials, regardless of relevance to the subreddit, may be removed with moderator discretion.
Shared music should be obfuscated at a minimum. Music shares can put the uploader and/or the subreddit in danger with reddit or legal teams, and should at minimum be obfuscated using base64. Better still would be password protection or private sharing. Message a moderator with questions.
Do not harass/bully/attack/defame other users. Harassment of other users in posts or comments will not be tolerated and may result in an immediate ban (moderator discretion). This includes PMing members of the subreddit or "following" their account around reddit, whether the problems originate here or elsewhere. If they have an impact on this subreddit this rule will be enforced.
Avoid posting NSFW content- if you must, please flair it appropriately. NSFW content will not often be relevant to the subreddit, unless a question/post/comment pertains to NSFW album art/lyrics. Please be aware of this and refrain from posting about it unless it is absolutely relevant to the subreddit's stated goals.

I mean, I know there’s a difference. I’d just like to know why people prefer one over the other. I’ve been a long time MusicBrainz Picard user, but I keep wondering if beets has features or automation I can take advantage of. I’ve been reading the docs every few months and I feel like my oversimplified understanding of it is that beets is MusicBrainz Picard but in the terminal, which I know is wrong.
Please help me determine if beets could make my life easier :) I’d appreciate any advice. Thanks!
Musicbrainz Picard is killing my brain cells trying to figure this meta data stuff out and figuring out how to get it to write to the music files.
So I found a old cdr disk with a bunch of old mp3's they are labeled named [artist/band] - [song title].mp3. I add the mp3 to the unclustered file section. When I run lookup it moves the file over to that far right box. Where it seems to want to change the cover art. But no other data. So I don't over again and instead of lookup. I use the Scan option. It seems to be confused between Hank Jr and Whity Morgan. But both times it only changed the cover image and maybe Acoustic ID. The meta section on the bottom only shows 5 tag tiles and never adds anything new. Even using the Lookup in browser. Tapping that Green Tagging button.
No clue what's going on. Kinda irritating.
Any suggestions or How-To websites?
Thought I'd create an in-depth guide and tutorial on how to get raw .mp3 files tagged and catalogued correctly, and then arranged into a key-matched set on your USB ready to hit the club.

I think my current lyric fetcher program is on its last legs as I'm getting more and more frequent failures. Sites are changing, going down, locking out anyone who doesn't want to pay (looking at you musixmatch). Genius now apparently requires an API key, which is totally fine for me, but the program I use doesn't have a field for it so it doesn't work anymore. I need an up-to-date lyric fetcher that still works in 2024. My requirements are as follows:
- Must run on Linux (bash script, python script, very simple .exe will probably all work).
- Must connect to a lyrics site that people actually use. Genius is preferable as I don't need synced lyrics.
- Must save lyrics to the lyrics tag in the mp3. I don't have any need for a bunch of extra text files. If I have to I'm willing to write a bash script to do this part, as the really important thing is futureproof data fetching - but I don't really want to.
- Must be free.
I hope these requirements aren't too prima donna. Thank you for your consideration.
Hi All! I was wondering what everyone uses for archival grade sleeves for CDs? I'm looking to protect my cardboard cases and the discs in them, similar to protectors used on and in the Japanese Mini-LP CD sleeves. Thanks!!
I think scripting in TagScanner is not that intuitive for me :S
Hi massive music collector since the early 70s Cassette Vinyl Cd Mini disc Digital Vinyl And now mainly digital, but still a sucker for a good box set.
I have a large digital library , use roon and iTunes.
Does anyone use audirvana? If so any good?
Wanting to move away from roon and iTunes if possible but have a Mac mini as my server. Any other options out there?
Good cloud back ups any advice here?
Thinking of buying a cheap laptop just to go through my library and sort it out once and for all. Used mp3tag before is that the easiest option for an old fella? Anyway love this sub Reddit lots of interesting threads here
Thanks for any advice given
The search function at gnudb.org has been broken for a while. Regardless of what I type in, it just loops back to the empty search page and gives me nothing. Is anyone else experiencing this problem?
I made a post before about how tricky it is to make a collection, and I want to try again and maybe ask for some advice?
What tagging program should I use? Should I use Spek to check EVERY FLAC I get? What is your process that makes it less tedious, but fun no matter?
My stuff:
iPhone 13 Pro Max w/ 1TB SSD
Dell Inspiron Laptop w/ iTunes
MusicBee player synced with iTunes Media folder
60000 songs, mostly mp3s and some AIFFs
For years and years, I have wanted to simply sync my music library to my phone. And have my music files on the go. Sounds simple right? Nope, iTunes and Apple have given me so much of a headache over these years and now my throat is raw from yelling at my screen. I simply want to sync mp3 files with their metadata to my phone. How is this so complicated? There has always been major issues with syncing artwork and syncing drops out or crashes nearly every time I transfer. I have seen customer support on this and they were stumped, then I could never get back to them after that.
So I want to know, what is the best setup for me? I want to have an app that will allow me to sync specific songs, genres, playlists, artists, etc., to a compatible music player app on my iPhone. Ideally I want to replace iTunes entirely and just use MusicBee, but it seems MusicBee doesn't have a compatible player for iPhone.
I don't care if the app in question is also a music player or not but it would be ideal if it was. Just an iTunes replacement that ACTUALLY PERFORMS SIMPLE TASKS.
Hell, I would honestly take suggestions for mp3 players at this point. 1TB micro SDs are so small and cheap these days surely there's a decent mp3 player out there that can solve my problem entirely.
Thank you.
I need to vent and cause I do not want to lose my hair...
I love collecting music and I also have OCD, but I have to make sure that it's in FLAC and legit, tagged and all the songs are on it. This is so fucking tedious and it's because I want my stuff organized, but I'm genuinely stressed out mainly cause I keep checking if everything is right.
It's one thing to be a perfectionist, it's another to have OCD; the latter is where you're basically just torturing yourself.
I don't know what to do; do I tag and all but do it once no matter what? Or just not do it at all? This is so draining and I hate it because I love collecting music, but I hate having to feel like it's a chore!
I hope someone relates. This is the 400th time I've restarted my collection and I just want to cry.
Title! I bought a Digital Audio Player (a HiBy M300)! I assume that that means I'll need a Play Store/Android app to download to play it. Does anyone know of a good Android app that can handle a large library? Rocket Player (Premium) is NOT one, since I've tried it before.
Help pls <3 I'd appreciate it!
I've unsuccessfully searched this sub, along with others, and the internet as a whole to no luck. Everything I find seems to be about syncing actual playlist files (M3U) than the underlying tracks (mp3/flac/etc.)
My collection has gotten to a state that has drawn interest from family and friends and I would like to be able to share some of the files (not stream) so they can put the files on their own personal server/player/phone/etc.
Example, I have a 100+ track 'Thanksgiving Playlist' that my family enjoys. I want to give them all the files. Navigating through the file directory to copy/move each file is not realistic.
I'm envisioning a workflow where one could create a playlist in a music player app (EG: Plexamp) and then have something read the playlist file to create a folder containing hard links to the original files. This could then be accessed via p2p (EG: Soulseek) or copied to a USB drive.
Does anything like this exist?
I can get original lyrics but I want translated lyrics to feel the songs. Google translate is not good for tranlating songs...so pls help me.
I recently downloaded a 20 gigs of music, mixed its albums and order with picard but cannot add lyrics
Hi all,
I would love an input from the community regarding this:
I'm set on my naming convention when it comes to the files but I'm not sure what to do about album title tags, especially for albums spanning over multiple CDs. Should I use the same album title for all tracks or should I separate them? I'm not sure if I want my music manager (I'm using Musicbee on Windows and Lollypop on Linux) to display CDs as individual items or not.
Here's my naming convention for the files of a Various Artists compilation for example:
Various Artists
/[year] Album Title [Genre]
/CD1
/Various Artists - [year] Album Title (CD1) - 01 - Artist - Title.flac
/Various Artists - [year] Album Title (CD1) - 02 - Artist - Title.flac
/Various Artists - [year] Album Title (CD1) - 01 - Artist - Title.flac
...
/CD2
/Various Artists - [year] Album Title (CD2) - 01 - Artist - Title.flac
/Various Artists - [year] Album Title (CD2) - 02 - Artist - Title.flac
...
That, I'm sure I don't want to change, it's perfect for me. Now when it comes to the actual TAGS, I'm not sure if I want to use Album Title
or Album Title (CD1)
for the first CD, and Album Title
or Album Title (CD2)
for the second CD.
What would be your choice and what are the advantages/drawbacks of this naming convention?
Edit: Second question, what do you guys do regarding accents in filenames? Is that a keep or a replace?
I am looking for some support using mp3Tag. Basically I have two identical albums, one with good tags, one with partially good tags, however I don't want to copy all of the tags from one to the other.
As an example, I just want to copy the "Title" tags from one album to the other (they are ordered the same). How can I do a tag copy of multiple files, but only a single field?
I’m having problems with Lidarr because most of my library consists of Chinese, Mandopop, and Japanese songs, so it’s a mess to download. Using MusicBrainz Picard to adjust the metadata is a nightmare—many of my songs aren’t even listed there. I’m planning to organize it myself. Is there a program that can check or at least show all the artist releases so I can select the ones I have? Not using metadata that is.
Hi folks,
Using Swinsian here and, despite the lack of easily available info I really love it (currently on beta version 3.19, which, even though it's not mentioned on the site, is the actual working program).
I've tried everything I can get my hands on and no other tool seems able to handle 100,000+ song library with ease, though getting everything just right has been a bit of a learning curve.
Would love to discuss this latest version in general or find out somewhere with more resources on it other than (extremely valuable) Reddit posts, but my main question is this:
If my main goal is to be able to stream my library to my iPhone (a la Subsonic), what is the best app for that which will work in tandem with my Swinsian library, i.e. ratings, playlists, etc?
I'm still not 100% clear on the concept, but looking at Audirvana, Navidrome, and similar... are any of these able to work directly with the Swinsian (sqlite) library, AND play FLACs?
Thanks for any suggestions, finally so close to getting this set up the way I really want it but just need to seal the deal.
I wonder if there's a way to turn my "new releases for you" link into RSS so I can get on my feed all new releases from artists I follow - so I can track and download them later. Or any other way to keep track of new releases.
This might be a strange ask, but does anyone have any solutions for automatically saving lyrics from my Spotify library/a Spotify playlist into a word document/text file?
I don't need it to sync to the music, and I'd prefer all of the lyrics in one document. Going through and searching the lyrics, then copying/pasting them by hand is time consuming.
So I followed Flemming's Guide to a T & unfortunately I keep getting an error
I've been sent to this thread & this one. No dice. I'm getting WAV Files in my output each time. I just downloaded & installed today, not sure where to even begin troubleshooting. Is EAC the best way to rip CD's? Should I just use something else or is this a simple fix my neaderthal brain is missing
PLEASE HELP
Update:
Thanks @mjb2012 got it all working. PC crash was unrelated.
So the scenario is this:
I had to change the change the source of the "watched folder" that has been on an external drive (that went kaputt) to another folder on an other external drive. That went okay, all the tunes are showing and playing from Swinsians "Library"...
The thing is that no all the playlists I had populated (and there a a lot of them, and I'd love to get them back) are now showing nothing but empty...
What is the procedure to recover (re-populate) the contents of those playlists?
I downloaded some huge unorganized playlists off spotify, and I'm going through and cleaning up titles, removing "remastered" from album names, correcting some years, adding some things to the list of "genres" in case I can find a player that actually parses them well, and adding songs to playlists on windows media player, which saves as m3u8, my plan is to import this at least to my phone where I will mainly listen to it so I'm sure theres a fairly doable way to change the directory location on all the songs for the m3u8, but once I clean up the album and song names I want to rename all of the files to have the artist/album in the name so I can try those programs that translate it back into spotify playlists, I want to make sure it gets the version of the songs I mean it to.
Any suggestions for a program that will change the file names to have this information, and also change the playlist file names?
What I'm really trying to do with the playlists and genres is custom tagging so an android app that handles that well would also be appreciated, oto music is the only one that seems to actually parse genres...
My music library is meticulously organized and tagged, I even have the ISRC codes embedded into each track.
Every single artist and album is organized as:
/Artist [num]/Album [type][year]/01 - Song Name.mp3
Surely with that amount of information finding the url for the same album on Apple Music should have been simple, but I’ve been at this for two days.
I have had a little success with a bash script that takes the ISRC from the first mp3 of each album and uses the Deezer API to get the album url, I then pass those urls to the odesli API to get the Apple Music URL.
The process did work, but it missed a ton of albums that were very easily found on Apple Music.
It seems to be something with odesli, because I can manually put the Deezer url for an album into their website and there is no Apple Music link. But If I manually get the Apple Music link for the same album, odesli shows it just fine. I’m not sure why that is.
Any ideas?
So right now, lyricsify is down for a week now and I do share most of my .lrc files there. So, can someone suggest me where can I upload my files now? Thaaanks~
I currently enjoy downloading music and listening to it from my phone. The only site I've come across that has album ratings is allmusic.com. I figure there must be another. Please give your best suggestions... TIA
So Green Day for example released a 20th Anniversary edition of American idiot with more tracks.
Do use use 2024 or 2004 as the year?
While this wasn't remastered, does your logic change for remastered releases?
