What are some good links for getting started? | Marc Keith’s great video series. Field and Forest’s Learning resource page, Mushroom Mountain’s Meet the Mushrooms and Learn About Mushrooms pages, NAMA’s Mushroom Cultivation Links and Grow Mushrooms at Home page. |
Posting & commenting thresholds | Most of the abuse in this community comes from new accounts or inactive alt-accounts. To discourage this, you will need an account that is ≥7 days old to unlock commenting and have ≥50 comment karma to unlock posting. |
We organize information by using a tag and flair system for easy topic-sorting, archival, being able to tell what posts are about quickly, and to limit bot activity. When making a post, you must type one of the [tags] from the list below into your title or the AutoModerator will reject it. You can select additional flair from the dropdown as well. If you try to make up your own tag the post will be rejected.
Tag | Background |
---|---|
[Gourmet] | The main subject involves gourmet species (Lions Mane, Oysters, Shiitake, Maitake, Agaricus, Nameko, etc.) |
[Medicinal] | The main subject deals with classically medicinal species (Reishi, Turkey Tail, Chaga, etc.). This is not for "magic" mushrooms. |
[Actives] | If your post involves cultivation of "magic" mushrooms, use this tag. This tag supersedes all others if a psychedelic spp. is involved, regardless of relevance to other tags. |
[General] | Use this tag if your post doesn’t quite fit with the other topics, or to encourage general discussion. |
[Freebies] | If you want to hold a contest, or post a related idea/question, tag your post with this. |
[Trade] | If you have a trade request, use this. Please be sure you're abiding by the community rules governing trades. Spore prints of “magic” spp. are OK, but living cultures are not allowed. |
[Technique] | Discussion focused on cultivation methods/techniques should use this. |
[Contamination] | Use this tag if you have questions about contamination. |
[Article] | If you have a fungi-related scholarly resource, pop-sciemce article, or periodical, use this tag. |
[Business] | Anything related to running a mushroom business, like scaling up, selling fruits at market, etc., should use this tag. |
[Now Hiring] | If you're looking to hire someone for your mushroom business, or know someone who is, use this tag. |
[Meet up] | If you’re interested in connecting with members of the community in your area, or are looking for a helping hand for the spring inoculation season, use this tag. |
Be mindful of what you share and how to protect your privacy.
We can't stress this enough: Trading/Soliciting for living cultures or dried material of Schedule I/Restricted fungi, or telling someone to eat an unknown mushroom will result in a ban. There will be no warnings for this activity. "I didn't know..." or "it was just a joke" are not legitimate excuses. There are some grey areas and some very clear red areas when it comes to this subject matter. Don’t be selfish and put the community in danger by going into the red.

I have a tub of Psilocybe Cubensis going on right now, it reached 95% colonization after 4 days of spawn to bulk; and it's been 10 days since I spawned, it's been sitting at 100% colonization for about 4/5 days now. Apparently, I've got some really good genetics for growing that fast, and I wanna fruit it. So far, the tubs I have cased developed heavy primordia other than the ones I haven't cased which ended up fruiting aborts. Now, I am not sure whether to case this one or not. I wanna do it right. I noticed two clusters of primordia and a single pin. My intention for this tub was to get a full canopy. Any advices? Is a casing layer necessary for Psilocybe Cubensis?
New to LC, does this mean anything?
Hello everyone. I was wondering how many times a self-healing injection port can be used. Or if it is a one-time use. Thank you
I'm gonna grow cubes but I'm worried about what tent I should get and should I have air circulation or just leave a small part of the tent open. Any advice would be appreciated
I'm trying to start my growing journey (gourmet mushrooms) and have an opportunity to score a larger grow tent than I currently need. I would use the extra space for my houseplant props, which require a lot of light.
Would this be an issue for the mushrooms as they fruit?
I find their videos to be really relaxing and informative and wanted to support them. All links to their store seem to be offline. Are they still In business?
It's pure pasteurised Coco coir. When i opened it smelt slightly damp. Or is this normal tomentose?
I've tried growing store bought oyster mushrooms using their stems. I've managed to successfully create mushroom spawn from cardboard without contamination. After that I've moved the spawn to a 5L water bottle filled with boiled hardwood sawdust. That was the biggest mistake, it all got moldy because I didn't do the sterilization properly. My family doesn't want to have a pressure cooker in the house, they are really annoying and think it will blowup the kitchen together with the bedroom. What options do I have? Are there any substrates that don't require sterilization? Hardwood pellets used for heating maybe? I will buy the pleurotus spawn from an online store this time.
DC350 grain spawn to substrate 3 days ago. Looking good but I haven’t grown DC350 so I am not sure if it will take off quickly or if I have some time. I am inclined to leave it alone until next week but I have seen folks on this sub going straight to fruiting conditions which is a new concept to me.
I’ve grown them before but these just look off to me. It just seems like the small ones keep popping up but aren’t doing much. Humidity is 83-85% temps are around 64-72F
it’s sorta coming in all over i was wondering if you would break and shake yet ?
thank you !
Should I move to a tub and mix with dirt?
Any dirt I can get from Home Depot or get fast on Amazon?
How can I move to a tub safely?
TIA
