Mug of the Week (5/??)

The final entry from my mugs from the USA.

The Doughnut mug.

Bought at Richmond Virginia in a Walmart. Originally saw some jacko lantern mugs which I wanted but they were a set of four and I wanted only one.

Then while searching for a singular jacko lantern mugs I found this doughnut monstrosity. Decided to buy it.

Mainly it reminded me of the doughnuts from Simpsons a very American cartoon show, then they're doughnuts a very American snack and it's from Walmart a very American store and just like America it's ridiculously big.

This is the in my opinion the most American mug I have.

Let me also talk about my first time in Walmart. It's the most fascinating place I have ever seen in my life.

A store so huge that it literally has everything. Want a single bottle of coke? Well, here's a whole case load for 8 bucks.

Come over here, we have an entire collection of outdoor furniture and barbeque, and over here clothing for all seasons, oh yeah we also have a pharmacy.

Do you want tools and hardware? We have that too.

One store with all this...and then some. Forget touring America, nope I think I spend an entire day just traversing the never ending labyrinth that is Walmart and be fascinated by the various aisles and sections they have which keep shifting every day, and the many characters that lurk within the walls looking for the best deal they can get.

Perhaps the biggest highlight of my trip was not the Broadway play, Empire State Building, Mount Vernon, or even New York no, it was the large American super markets.

Walmart, Publix, Target, Sam's Club and the like.

Not to mention all these places also have a petrol pump. Like what?!

It was only after I visited these stores did I actually understand what a 'Super Market' truly is.

Well, this brings the end to my adventures in the US with the mugs. I do have one more but it's not exactly a mug as much as it's a novelty travel cup. You know the ones like in Starbucks. Which I got at my first Broadway Musical.

Next Week, it's going Down Under.

Nutcracker mug

I have always loved nutcrackers. We have a modest collection, so when I saw this guy I had to get it for a double collection hit.

M&S Beach Huts?

Hi guys, if this isn't allowed I'm really sorry. My mum has one of these mugs and it was her favourite and she's just smashed it, so I'm trying to find a replacement. I know it's M&S and it's quite old now and I haven't found much online, but if anyone knows someone who's selling one please let me know it would be greatly appreciated 🫶🏻 Thank you!

Mug of the Week (4/??)

So, last week it was new york with an old mug,

Now it's a new addition to my collection, with this one, bought at Mount Vernon on my first trip to the US.

Mount Vernon the Home of George Washington, I took the tour of his house and learnt a lot about how the American people lived way back in the 1700s.

I also had an adventure where I lost my beanie and literally traversed the entire property until I found it. The beanie was made by a friend and is the only one that actually feels comfortable and does not itch when I wear it.

Saw the mug at the gift shop thought it looked cool and bought it along with some other stuff, like cocoa tea infusion.

The mug was quite pricey as is with gift shop mugs, and I thought it was a unique design, as it said it was hand made in the US and I didn't want to take home something from the US that was made in China.

Then I discovered this reddit community and saw the exact same mug design on a few other posts coming from other tourist spots. Looks like this not as unique as I thought, but still a cool looking period appropriate mug.

Speaking of expensive things, the George Washinton house is mighty expensive the tours and all. The free audio tour covers a lot of the open property except the mansion itself which is a special paid tour, where you stand in a long queue and walk through the house as volunteers announce the history.

That is worth it. What's not worth it and is an absolute con job is the National Treasure tour, fun fact, National Treasure Book of Secrets had the opening scene shot at Mount Vernon. I guess that was enough to warrant an entire tour.

The tour costs a lot and covers very little, if you think you're gonna learn some shooting secrets or see something special you're not. You're really not. The tour covers three places all of which are available on the audio tour and give more information on the audio tour and the information you get about the shooting of the scene and film is all available online for free.

Yeah, don't take that tour it's a scam and waste of time.

Other than that though, it's pretty amazing and very well preserved, including the view across the Potomac river still exactly how it was when George Washinton was alive.

The museum is also pretty cool.

Oof this was a long one wasn't it. If you want the mug it's available at the Mount Vernon gift shop.

I'm a sucker for cute mugs.

Went to the mall to look for a tulip mug, but came home with these 2 cute halloween mugs instead for 2 eur each. 😍

Excited about my new find☕️

Got this tall beauty in Gothenburg.

Just as a little explanation in case you were wondering.

Fika means to have a coffee break in Sweden. It’s almost like a little soothing ritual one does with family or friends.

Coffee with Hank

Got him at medieval fair ages ago. He's better suited for wine and not hot coffee, but still a very good mug, especially this time of year.
