activating mudbox trial

I am having a frustrating ordeal attempting to activate Mudbox (which I initially installed as a demo).

The order confirmation email contained a "subscription number", however Mudbox requests a serial number, and i cannot find this either in the emails I have received or in my online profile.

when I went to create a support case for this issue, I filled out the support form and clicked the "next" button, which brought me to a page with some unhelpful information and a similarly unhelpful virtual assistant.... so I also cannot figure out how to submit a support case.

After this, I clicked the "post a question" link, and this brought me to a form which would not allow me to post until I had selected a "board"... however, this box only opened up a search field which would not give me any results no matter what I entered.

This has been a cumbersome and unpleasant process. and so I cast this message into the void in the perhaps vain hope that it may be seen by helpful human eyes!

black streaks on stencils

Hey,

Im using PNG files as stencils for car sponsors on a race car, and when painting them on they have black streaks, almost like paint smears on them.

Is there anyway for me to just "stamp" the sponsor on rather than having to paint it on with the stencil and projection tool?

[Help] Is there a way to move sculpted layers?

I have some layers in mudbox. However, I want to see what it would look like if the sculpted detail was a little to the left or right. I don't want to have to re sculpt everything. is there a way to just take that sculpted detail and drag it/move it?

MudBox problem (small)

Hello, everyone am new and I can seem to find someone with this small problem.

Am trying to see what lvl am at. Like on the top right corner I should be getting a (Level #) but it doesn't show .

Does anyone know about this?

Over exposure/ extra lights?

I have made 3 objects separately, all look normal separately, but when I add them to one scene it seems like either the exposure has gone way up on all objects, or by adding the extra objects new lights have been added?

Pretty new to Mudbox lol, if anyone knows anything Ill give a silver

noob with a problem

so i have been practicing mudbox about a week now. im having really annoying problem and i cant seem to find any answers online. so the problem is that it seems like my model is locked. none of the sculpting tool work.(except grab for some reason). i can go back to previous save(about 2h of work ago) and everything works fine. this all started after i was importing some vector displacement maps i did. from the image browser. i feel like i have tried everything, but nothing works. any help is appreciated.

New to the program please help

Hi, I started this program today and I watched a few videos on sculpting and what to use. For some reason every video, when the guy adds with wax or just uses sculpt tool it all comes out normal when I use on mine like for example I add wax it comes out all jagged. Or when I hold control to carve in some stuff it looks like i jabbed it in with sharp edges.

Everyone else's tools work nice and smooth and my look like shit. I played with the fall out to see if that would change anything but it doesnt. What am i missing? Seems like all the tools dont work the way it does in videos. I'm using the latest trial version to see if it's something I can get into before I subscribe.

How can I convert a PTEX file to TIFF?

I was working with Ptex while painting a model, and exported the layers once finished with the objective to transfer them to a model in Maya. I found that Ptex is not recognised by Maya, and what is needed is a Tiff file of the paint layers.

Would anyone know is there is a way to either convert the Ptex file to Tiff, or export the paint layers from mudbox as a Tiff?

New to Mudbox: How do I solve a crack around the whole mesh?

Hi, I was wondering if perhaps I can have some help? I am trying out mudbox and i'm sculpting this dude in armor. But I forgot to move the model's arms before applying the big panels for armor and the joint wanted to connect to too much. In order to get more control, I thought I could separate the mesh of the arms with the mesh of the body and rotate them. But Now I wanted to put them back. Trouble is my pc crashed and didn't let me save an alt version- mudbox seems to be autosaving or I'm subconsciously saving every five seconds, lol.

Anyways, now I'm stuck with this gross model. Combining the mesh somehow still left a huge crack. I've tried giving it some more space, fixing weird geomettry, becoming bff with the Patch function... Nothing seems to work. The one time something DID happen, it patched up the hole... on the torso side. Leaving the arm mesh all alone. :(

Any advice?

On the right is what the crack looks like normally. (The holes were just weird spots I deleted.) On the left is me trying to get rid of any loose, over complicated polys that might be screwing me up. It goes around the whole shoulder.

Problems With Mudbox

Hi! I'm having some issues with the software and I require some assistance. I'm having strange issues with modeling and I can't find a solution elsewhere. I keep finding small indents in my model that I didn't make and suddenly the model turns low res even though I have subdivisions set to five. Thanks in advance!

Making specific areas symmetrical

Reddit seems to be my last bastion of hope for getting support with Mudbox. The official forum is terrible with getting replies and I’m totally stuck. :(

I have a problem with getting specific areas of my model/sculpt symmetrical. The mirroring is a bit weird in Mudbox. One minute it works and the next it no longer does it properly. As a result, the left side (the model’s right) has deformed fingers, toes and a left ear.

Is there a way of fixing these? Is there a way to mirror or make those parts symmetrical? I know there’s a Make Symmetrical option under Mesh, but that makes the face symmetrical as well, which I don’t want. Or is there a way of making everything symmetrical BUT the face?

Annoying pop-up

After each camera rotate/pan I get an annoying dialogue. It says 'Freeze from Sculpt Layer'. I use mudbox default interaction mode, so it's Alt+RMB OR Alt+MMB Drag to rotate/pan, respectively. Is there a way to make the pop-up not pop up.

UnBake Normals

Hey all. I am having some difficulty with Mudbox. I was exporting my normal map, but forgot to select the correct scale when doing so. So now my normal map appears to be baked to the base mesh and it is really messing up what I had sculpted. Is there any way to unbake those normals and have my nice clean base and then rebake the normals of what I had sculpted at the correct resolution? Thank you very much.

Mudbox freezes when I try to undo - help

H all, so I've recently loaded Mudbox onto a new machine, and have encountered an irritating problem. Every time I try to undo something (using the menu or ctrl+z), the application slows to a crawl and/or will crash half the time, prompting me to send Autodesk a report. I'm paying for the monthly subscription, and this has brought my productivity screeching to a halt.

Does anyone else have this problem, and if so, is there any kind of fix or work-around? Thank you!

Mudbox vs zbrush polycounts

idk how the hell it does it but I can sculpt pretty damn comfortably at 200 mil polys in mudbox no brush lag other than when I finish the stroke I have to wait a split second to start another stroke I thought zbrush was cool when I could do 80 mil but mudbox more than doubles it and the navigation doesn't even hardly lag, the mesh can blur badly sometimes but sculpt details appear as they should when the viewport catches up while z brush gets real rough moving the camera although brush strokes are still smooth might have been able to do more but the camera just gets nearly unusable I know zbrush is technically bett er and u don't need that many polys anyway but I was under the impression nothing could touch zbrushes ability for high poly counts but in my limited experience mudbox killed it. Just wanted to point that out as I haven't heard anything about mudbox's poly limits.

Where to get Stamps, Stencils or Basic Meshes.

Having a hard time finding some Stamps or Stencils to add and play around with, there seems to be a ton of Zbrush Alpha Brushes around but not many made for Mudbox. Have tried arena but that seems to be incredibly badly designed with navigating or searching it being a huge pain in the arse. Anyone happen to know a good source of themed stamps? Or basic meshes to practice on?

Stamps just stopped working all of a sudden?

I'm working on sculpting a face and was using skin texture stamps on a bump map and for some reason the stamps just stopped working. When I paint with them it looks like I'm carving out a smooth area like when using the sculpt tool instead of using the stamp that's selected. Any way to fix this?

Edit: I deleted my preferences folder for Mudbox and it fixed the problem.
