Electrical issue

So I have a Vstar 650 that’s pretty much a barn find. I’ve been fixing it little by little and just yesterday a replaced the signal lights. So everything was going well until I was putting everything back ( rear mud guard, headlight, etc. ) all of a sudden when I turn it on one last time to see how it looks the main light power goes off. Did I screw it up? So blinkers and stop lights work just fine but when it comes to the lights that should be on all the time they just don’t activate ( tag light, headlight, rear light). Can anyone suggest what might be the issue here? Also I notice the switch control acts up from time to time but I already checked the cables and the control inside the switch and everything has electrical current so I’m not sure what might be the problem.

Thanks for reading.

I passed, and thank you for tips!

Hey folks,

A few weeks ago I did not pass my MSF and posted here for tips and had my re-try today. Passed with flying colors!

Some things that really helped me:

  • Pushing down on the petals when counter steering
  • Having phenomenal instructors who actually coached
  • Taking the weave a bit wider and using back break to navigate the weave

Thanks everyone!

WRONG

To all of you accusing me of being a crimanl in my last post about clipping a mirror. According to merseyside police i had every right to flee someone trying to run me down and that i reported the incident, that no person was harmed and that my mirror sustained no damage as even they said 'yours would break before casuing any damage to theirs' so it would seem some of you need to take your heads for a shit !

Did anyone buy motorcycle in the winter at the dealership a d got huge discount?

Hi,

So in the countries where there is winter and no motorcycles on the streets, I assume sales are very slow at the dealerships. Are they keen on making big discounts during that period? For example I read about them wanting to close the year or get rid of old stock on december. Did anyone take advantage of that and bought it for much better price?

Review site MCGearHub is broken

Every time I try to go to MC Gear hub, the huge gear review site, it redirects me straight to revzilla, wtf. Anyone else have this problem?

Post-crash restlessness

I went down recently, almost died (had I landed 2-3 inches to the right, I supposedly would have died on impact, according to first responders) but my injuries weren’t too bad, I managed to walk away with only a broken collarbone.

This all happened a few days ago, and I’m currently recovering. I’m having extreme difficulty sleeping and just relaxing in general. Everytime I close my eyes, it all plays back in my head. My heart starts to race, my palms get sweaty, and I start freaking out and going into a sort of panic. The only way I’ve found I can calm myself down is by knocking myself out with the pain meds I was prescribed at the hospital.

Has anyone else gone through something similar? If so, how did you get over it? I’m really looking forward to getting back on 2 wheels, and I don’t want this to be something that stops me from ever riding again. If just trying to sit and do nothing initiates an anxious fit, I’m not sure what’s going to happen when I sit on a bike again.

Triumph street triple 765 issue

Hello to All! I'am a happy street triple 765 r 2023 owner. Recently i changed the stock clutch and brake levers to an after market one. Due to fitting issue i removed the clutch sensor pusher which caused a check engine light to turn on because the bike was no longer detecting the lever being pushed. I then fitted the lever and cleared the error message. From that point the quickshifter started behaving strangely like working half the time. Sometimes when i start the bike the qs will not work for the entire ride, other times it work normally for 2 hour and then stop working while riding. I also installed the old 2017/2019 headers and fitted a mivv terminal euro 5 exhaust. The bike sound fantastic but the fuel gauge do not work properly: when i fill up the tank it shows 6/8 bars. I have tried the 12 minutes tune and disconnecting the battery to reset with no luck. Someone have any suggestion other that going to the dealer?

Thanks is advance!

Oil filter cover bolt snapped deep inside.

Honda cbf250, Used a torque wrench on the filter casing bolts, top one snapped. It snapped near the base of the threads so it’s very deep in there and probably very difficult to drill in perfect center or use an easy out especially for a newbie like me. Should I just take it in to the mechanics so I don’t do any further damage or? And can I still ride? I have ridden places (only source of transportation) and nothing bad has happened, no major oil leaks either. Seems like the o ring seal is still sealing since the bottom bolt is in place. Advice?

How much do you pay monthly for motorcycle insurance?

I recently got a quote from geico and learned that I’d be paying about $109 monthly for a 2021 rebel 500 and $186 monthly for a 2021 ninja 400. This would be for full coverage. I already got my license and was planning on getting my bike next, and I’m wondering if these are reasonable prices or if I should shop around for a different auto insurance company first?

EDIT: I’m 29.

Replacing my rear suspension

Hello !! I’m currently in the process of replacing my rear suspension on my 2018 triumph street triple and I found a place to rebuild the unit and I’ve removed it .

My question is since I have the rear disassembled while I take the part in the shop to get repaired , is there anything I should be doing to the rear axle or any bolts holding down the suspension piece while I can before reassembling it ? I decided to do this tear down myself to learn how to do it ans would appreciate any input on maintenance stuff I can do while the bike is in the shape it’s in now

Alpinestars Tech Air 5 vs Revit Avertum

I am considering buying a vest and saw from Bennett's review that the TA5 doesn't have a rated chest protection, and other users mentioned the poor durability of the app so was looking at alternatives. I saw Revit have a very similar model.

Can anyone share details of the differences and if anyone has the Revit, provide a review please.

Alpine * Tech air 5 vs Revit Avertum

Is anyone able to share the difference between these two models.

I came across Bennett review of the A* which suggested it doesn't have chest protection, so was looking at alternatives, and stumbled across the Revit option.

What accessories for new rider? (Z500)

My Z500 SE is getting delivered next week. It’s the first motorcycle I owned in 10+ years. Recently rode a Navi and Grom, super fun but Reddit suggested a Z500 over Z125.

Jacket is on the way, I’m still looking for a comfortable helmet since I wear glasses. The dealer has a good one but I still want to try few more.

Music is not a priority right now while I relearn to ride and get real comfortable.

Edit; any must haves.

My plan is to get around NYC when I move in spring and occasionally take highways to NJ. NYC highways are 50MPH max when not in standstill traffic, NJ is 65MPH but i only need to ride for 6 miles at that speed.

Oil Leak (2012 Honda CBR250R)

I recently did an oil change. Oil is leaking onto the exhaust but I am not sure where it is coming from, i don’t think it’s coming from oil drain. Is it coming from this?

Just had my first accident!

Well, it was bound to happen I guess. Wrecked my 2024 Hayabusa by being dumb. Was trying to avoid some traffic so I lane split to the other side of the road (stupid I know) and a car creeped out from the intersection sending me flying out, no oncoming cars were there luckily for me. Came out of it with just some bruises and scratches (thankfully had full safety gear). My wife’s conviction couldn’t be higher for me to give up biking forever, in fact she’s kind of expecting it at this stage, not sure what to do now.
