My phone won’t charge and I ignored the warning. What should I do to fix it, I’m 14 with no money and can’t go to a phone service place.
I took some pictures under water at pool phone was in water less than 1 minute at a time 3 times, phone worked but when I got home then power was dying so I tried to plug In would not charge then I let phone dry more tried to plug again still it will not charge?
I wanted to reset my rooted Moto X4 to factory. I flashed a full factory image of the phone, and everything seems to be working except the Wifi, which just won't turn on. I tried USB tethering as well, but found no luck in that. Any ideas?
Hi.
Can anyone tell me the default value for the Smallest Width setting in Developer Option please, changed mine & cant remember the default value now.
Thanks.
MOTO X4 - "Your Device is Corrupt. It can't be trusted"
Suddenly received the subject message. Phone is "stock" with no mods.
I can enter the maintenance mode with the simultaneous Volume Down/Power button and scroll through all the options but selecting one results in the same error message.
I have downloaded the Lenovo System Recovery tool and firmware (if needed) but the phone will not respond to attempts to enter Fastboot via the Windows Command line. I have regularly connected it by USB cable to transfer data files.
Other than the error message, it appears to be in perfect working order and is very good condition. It would be shame to have to buy a replacement for a five-year old phone that will end up in landfill.
Are there any other options to recover this phone?
Over the past months, whenever I try to send a photo the send fails, giving me an error message “Mobile data is turned off. Check your settings.” So this time I tried to turn on mobile data to send it and it still wouldn’t send? What am I doing wrong? ( I know it’s probably not me these phones just aren’t great )
Hello, I have the following problem. I tried to upgrade my XT1900-7 to lineage 21, when somehow the bootlooder got locked again. And now the phone won't boot into lineage or into recovery, just fastboot is possible. I tried to unlock it again, but this is not working. Blankflash is not working because of the locked bootloader. Does someone has an idea to get it working again? Thanks for your help
If so, how did it go?
my MOTO X4 always gives constant errors with applications and system in general, I always clear the cache and restarted, but soon the problem comes back, I've done everything, from formatting and changing room (LineageOS), but the errors remain, does anyone know what it could be? I almost gave up and changed the device. the device is new, but after a while it started to have these constant errors.
could it be something to do with DPI?
As the title says 2 days back I came to know that I am not able to record video through default camera app.(I rarely use my camera)
I did some research by myself and came to know that Motorola has ended the support of default camera app so I tried multiple open source camera apps to get rid of this problem but nothing seems to be working. Anybody here have any concrete solution to this? I just need an simple open source app that can record a video. I am running stock android 9 pie
Thanks in advance and apologize for my English.
I haven't used my X4 for about 2 years. It sat in it's box for that time until a couple of days ago when I decided to use it. Well I tried to power it up and nothing.
Plugged into the wall for charging, I could fee the phone get warm left it plugged over night but still won't power up.
I've tried holding the power button for 30 seconds, pressing the volume down button and power at the same time and nothing.
Has anyone gone through this? I'd appreciate any help.
hello everyone, I ask for help because I'm stuck with the recovery flash step with fastboot with the motorola x4 already unlocked, with the last Lineage Os v 20, y try with diferent usb ports and also with diferents computers, all give the same result
this is the error that is giving, is like it didnt find the bootloader?:

Hi, looking for some assistance on unlocking the bootloader for my XT1900-2.
I've got the bootloader unlock code from Motorola and I've been trying to have the bootloader unlocked through CMD.
Everything goes well, I do get OKAY and FINISHED as messages on the command prompt, but the phone doesn't give me a message to unlock the bootloader.
The CID for my device is 0x0032, so it seems to be eligible for a bootloader unlock, it's just that nothing really happens.
I just found out the that AT&T isn't supporting VoLTE on the X4. I want to make sure it's supported on T-Mobile before I switch to one of their MVNO carriers.
Does anyone have a 6/64 or 4/64 variant of the Moto X4? I would really like to obtain one for under $100, but eBay has failed me, as the only 4/64 variant is $2000 (yikes). My goal is to install LineageOS on it and use as a daily driver, this was my first phone and nothing since has quite matched up. Thanks for any help!
I update the code Google apps, and after updating messenger a couple of weeks ago, I no longer get and notifications for incoming messages.
I've gone through all the settings I can find, and all notifications are enabled.
Is anyone else having this issue?
Or does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this?
[edit01] The continuing saga - I think all the notification sounds have gone away, so I restarted the phone.
I now get a notification in the notification bar, but there's no sound when I get a text.
From going through the Notification settings and the settings in Messages, it looks like Google may have removed the sound! You can tell it to have send and receive sounds, but you can't pick the sounds.
Just got this bad boy for streaming Amazon Music to my hifi setup. I have a S21 Ultra, alas it does not support AptX HD. Stupid!
Pristine shape for cheap cheap. Bezels aside, it feels like a premium phone. Very nice looking and a great feature set. Would have liked to have owned this back in the day.
I love Motorola's Quick Gestures / Actions, such as chop for flashlight and twist for camera. I need to upgrade my phone so I'm trying to see if I can get this type of functionality from a different manufacturer's device, as none of Motorola's current lineup is appealing to me.
Does anyone have any experience trying the Moto app or Moto Actions app on a non-Motorola Andoid phone? Did it work?
The Apps I'm talking about:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.motorola.moto&hl=en_US&gl=US
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.motorola.actions&hl=en_US&gl=US
I was thinking about doing something like running octoprint or home assistant on mine, but I was curious if others had found some good uses for theirs.
I want to use the USB to transfer data but all my usb settings are greyed out. I used to be able to just plug it in a change the setting with a tab that popped up. Then that stopped working and I had to set developer mode and change the default setting there to file transfer.
NOW that doesn't even work.
I then searched USB in settings and had a bunch of hits and but none of them have changeable settings and the USB default is no transfer.
I'm on Android update 9 btw.
Started happening a few days ago when i took a picture of the full moon. Since then all pictures using the forward facing, standard (non-wide-angle) setting on Automatic have been looking like theres some kind of night vision filter. Attached is a picture of my white shelf with normal ambient lighting. This only affects the standard forward facing setting. The selfie and wide-angle camera settings do not have this problem.
I have tried resetting the camera app cache and storage as well as disabling it and re-enabling it. So far google has been fruitless. Has anyone seen this before?
I have a Moto X4 self reporting as XT1900-1, Android One that I bought for Google Fi use. But now I'd like to use LineageOS.
I'm stuck at bootloader unlocking because the command fastboot oem get_unlock_data
just hangs. I'm using the latest Android platform-tools, Windows or Linux, different cables, and different computers. On Windows I've tried built-in USB drivers, Motorola drivers, and Android drivers. Fastboot even hangs half way through fastboot getvar all
. Lenovo (Motorola) Rescue and Smart Assistant says it's an unsupported device.
Seems like it should be possible to flash replacement stock (non-Fi, non-Android One) on this device? And maybe that'll get it to cooperate with fastboot so that I can get the unlock data.
Any suggestions?
I've been on a search for a little bit for a phone to take the x4s spot as my phone. I love this thing the headphone jack, the durability and the water resistance as well as the price were all amazing but unfortunately she's started to slow down and has cracked after hundreds of drops. I've been looking ar Nokia's XR20 does anyone have experience with that or any other suggestions?
I can only get data after adding the four APNs and the IMS apn actually prevents any connection.
So I just activated my old X4 for my son with google fi. I had lineage 18 on it and updated to 19. got everything working great....except for gcam. Now I'm going back a ways because when I installed lineage on it the first time it was more of just playing around because I had just bought a Pixel 5. Prior to lineage I had a version of gcam that worked well with the stock os. What I can't find is a gcam version that will work correctly now with lineage os 19.1. Anyone have anything on this? Like a specific apk of gcam or maybe a different camera option? really looking for nightsight to be a thing with this phone.
Thanks
Hi,
I just bought a used moto x4 to put lineage OS on.
But somehow it seems no software upgrades are available OTA. I am not sure what the issue is, maybe the update servers are not available any more?
I have model XT1900-7, with software channel reteu, Build number OPWS27.2.4. I am stuck on security patch of August 2018.
Is there some other easy way to upgrade the software? The lineageOS site says to make sure the phone is on Android 9, so without upgrade there doesn't seem to be an easy way to flash it.
A couple of weeks ago, I successfully installed Lineage OS 19.1 + MindTheGApps on my old Moto x4. I have had some questions about this in other places, so thought I would provide a few comments about the process to help anyone interested in doing the same.
My x4 was purchased new directly from Motorola, in 2018. It was the 64 GB internal storage/4 GB RAM version. I had previously owned the Google Fi version with 32 GB/3 GB, and wanted an upgrade.
When I started this process, the x4 had Android 9, and had not received any security updates for around 2 years. I knew about LineageOS for some time and wanted to try it, but was unsure how it would turn out. I went ahead and bought a newer phone (Nokia XR20) for a "daily driver," in case my experiments with the x4 did not go well.
So far the x4 is working fine with LineageOS 19.1, including rebooting, locking/unlocking, charging, installing/uninstalling apps. Even so, I have not yet tried some key things, like making phone calls or using an SD card for extra storage.
I did not plan to put a a SIM in my Lineage'd x4, or buy a cellular plan. Rather the idea was to use the x4 as a second, WiFi-only Google Voice phone, for a "work" number. I will turn off GV notifications on my "daily driver" phone which is also signed in to the Gmail account that "owns" the Google Voice number.
If there is enough interest, I would be happy to get a prepaid trial SIM and try some phone calls using the cellular network, on my LineageOS 19.1 x4. I'm just as curious as you whether it'll work properly with Mint Mobile, which is the provider I have used on my "daily driver" phones for years.
Areas I get asked about include:
Performance: Seems fine so far. I have done little Web browser use. I haven't done any actual calls or texting yet, as I still need to sign in the x4 to the Google account where I have a Google Voice number. In general the phone is responsive. No notable lagginess in the onscreen keyboard, or when switching apps, but I still have a lot of things I want to put on it (such as ReVanced for example).
I did sign the phone into a different Gmail account. It seems to have no problem sending/receiving emails and getting Google account authentication messages. So I expect no problems with the "main" Gmail account that owns the GV phone number.
A heavy use I made of the phone in its "old life" was navigation with OSMAnd+. I have OSMAnd+ on it again, but have not really done navigation yet. This may prove one of the downfalls of not having a cellular plan/SIM card - TBD. Probably OK if so, since it will be primarily a "working from home" phone, for work-related calls and texts using my GV number.
Level of difficulty of putting LineageOS on the x4:
--Overall, not that hard. If you can handle installing Ubuntu Linux on someone's random computer, you can probably tackle putting LineageOS on your x4.
--I did have to do a bunch of reading, and a little head-scratching. Once your x4 bootloader is unlocked w/the code from Motorola, there seem to be at least a few ways one can then proceed.
--I followed instructions found here: https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/payton/
--I was doing all this on a PC running Windows 11, non-Pro edition. Worked fine. Should be possible to do from a Linux computer as well.
Good news: the official LineageOS documentation is quite good and very thorough, down to noting which version of GApps you will want to install (if any).
A note on bootloader unlocking:
--One of the first steps, if not the first step, is to unlock the phone's bootloader. This requires going to a special Motorola website, agreeing to their disclaimers (basically "it's not our fault if you brick it" type stuff), providing a hardware ID and email address to send you the unlock code.
I wasn't that worried about bricking the phone. It was way out of warranty anyway. I was not super comfortable keeping it as a "daily driver" since it was years behind on security updates.
A big thing I was wondering about, which I haven't tried yet: will I be able to use banking apps? don't know, haven't tried them yet.
Since this is supposed to be a "work only" phone, I won't make extensive use of apps having to do with my personal life, such as banking. But, I do plan to try it, just to see if it works.
Hope this is helpful. Feel free to ask about anything I haven't covered.
After over 4 years my x4 finally gave up on me the other night. For £200 at the end of its cycle, to have fast charging, glass back and NFC was a hell of a deal. It's a real shame there's not much comparable these days. Looking at the new g82 to replace as I love a lot of the Moto features. Does anyone have any other suggestions?
So last year I upgraded to the Samsung S21. My Moto X4 phone has pretty much been collecting dust since (with the exception of me lending it to my mum for a week while her trusty iPhone 5s got a battery replacement because she spends so much time blabbing with her friends)
Anyhow, I wanted to write about my experience with this phone. I replaced my Moto G2 with the Moto X4 beginning of 2018 and had almost exactly 3 years with it.
Build
Props to having a sleek glass and aluminium build. The back is very pretty to look at. Doesn’t feel like the most sturdiest build but better than a lot of other stuff on the market. On this note, I do have to say, it fell out my pocket and the front glass cracked. I sent this to Motorola to arrange a repair. They dispatched a courier to pick it up from me pretty quickly, but whoever does these repairs really took their fucking time. Like over a month. This was 2018 so don’t blame the pandemic. After that, I got a case, and decided to never use any phone without a case again (all my previous phones were plastic and shit so I never bothered). Even though it was shitty plastic, my Moto G2 actually felt more solid.
As time went on, I realised one very very ditzy thing Motorola had done was use the same glossy colouring under the back glass for the front glass. The glare, the fucking glare. Australian sun is not at all forgiving. Over time, this started to peel underneath the glass which looked absolutely terrible. Not a helpful thing to have when you consider that the top and bottom bezel are ridiculously chunky. The design team at Motorola did not get the memo about the industry moving to reduce bezels and maximise functional real estate until too late.
In my final year of usage, the front glass adhesive to the body started to fail. The bottom right corner lifted off ever so slightly at the beginning, and then it was the majority of the whole right side. It’s very subtle and especially with a case on you wouldn’t notice it unless you looked for it, but you could see the backlight of the display if you pulled it a millimeter extra and looked at it from the side. So much for the IP68.
Battery
Solid, nothing to complain about, although disclaimer I had a shitty prepaid so only turned on mobile data a couple of times (and at one point didn’t have it at all), so I’m not sure what it would have been with data switched on.
Camera
Meh. Unimpressive. That is until I installed the Gcam. That made it tons better, obviously nothing compared to today’s flagships and even mid tiers but it actually stands its grounds with gcam. Gcam didn’t work with the ultra wide camera but I never used that anyway since the distortion was ridiculous and quality was shit, Motorola should have not put that there and used the money on making the primary lens better instead. Day time shots were more than fine but night shots were abysmal with the default app but you could actually see shit with Gcam Night Sight, however the colours looked off (green ish tinge) if the lighting wasn’t great). Videos were nothing to write home about, but in all fairness I don’t really record videos anyway.
Display
Easily one of the worse things about this phone. Minimum brightness did not go low enough and the night display did not get warm enough. The apps I installed to help out just made everything orange. Not good enough, the colour reproduction looked shit next to even phones from 2010. It was passable, but having seen better, I was annoyed. I always found the content looked too blue/cool for some reason compared with say my iPad which was way older than the X4. Black appears more like a dark grey. The thing was not comfortable to look at in bed at night, so I resorted to my 2013 iPad.
Performance
Not terrible, but I was actually impressed in the beginning, then I was unimpressed as time went on. Things would always take an extra second or so to load, it never glitched out on me thank goodness but sometimes, the little things add up. I did go to the developer options and reduce the animation speed which helped a bit.
Fingerprint Sensor
Nice
Haptics
Mushy
Speakers
OK
NFC
A godsend
Fast charging and USBC
Hell Yes
Software Updates
One of the major pitfalls. I know other androids are also shit at this but I’m still pissed nonetheless. Motorola promised 2 years of android version upgrades. However, it shipped with android 7 when android 8 was already out in the wild. So you only really got 1 major upgrade (9/Pie) as the 1st one was just playing catch-up. I’ve always loved how clean and bloat free the software skin is, but the software lacked a lot of new features compared to the competition. I remember being curious to try out Pie’s systemwide dark mode, only to realise Motorola couldn’t be fucked to implement it. The phone’s software UI felt a little stuck in the past, especially when it didn’t evolve with software updates. Thank goodness Pie came at a reasonable time, but I would have rather Motorola took the time to perfect it. At least I got a lot of the essential tasks done though still.
Today
I’m very happy with the S21 I bought. The reason I upped my budget a bit was because I wanted longevity (Samsung also has a mean discount for uni students). The X4 was the first phone I bought myself (no more naggin mummy) and at the time, the most money I had dropped on anything. And damn it was quite the upgrade from the G2. However I will say this: I don’t know if Lenovo acquiring Motorola had an effect, but I did feel like Motorola had lost their spark after I moved over from the G2. The X4 didn’t have one standout thing that made me want to upgrade, but the accumulation of many different things and annoyances made me decide it was time to move on.
