So I did order a 12” X 12” starter kit from Mosaico because I didn’t really know where to start. I plan on keeping them that small for now.
Where do you source your marble pieces?
What do you use for a backing?
Do you use specific epoxy/grout?
What do you wish you had known before starting?
I want to start making mosaics, and I am wondering what the best way is to keep shards and dust from getting everywhere when I am cutting tiles. How do you keep everything in a small space that is easy to clean up afterward? Will probably be using nippers on ceramic and glass.
Edit: can you please post pics of your setup?
Hello, Lovely People. I have a table base but not a table top. I'd like to have someone cut me a round table top so I can put a moasic on the table top. So my question is, what kind of base/material would be suitable for the table top...something that wouldn't warp and withstand the weight of ceramic tiles and grout. The table would be indoors and not exposed to the weather. Thanks so much for your suggestions.
i’ve recently started doing mosaics, and have only really used whatever i can find from craft stores. i’d love to start learning how to cut pieces from colored glass. right now i’m just using pre broken up stuff, square tiles & aquarium rocks. i’d love to know if you guys have advice on where to get glass for the best price. craft store glass ranges from $10–$20 for a sheet about the size of printer paper. is this about normal?
Has anyone used thinset over rapidset? Any bonding issues? I'm thinking of doing some slightly raised areas with a bit of 5-minute rapidset, then using thinset as usual on top of the rapidset for the actual tesserae. The rapid set works like lightning, I have to work in tiny two-inch areas or end up with the palette knife stuck like Excalibur in my mixing cup!
I'm concerned that the thinset won't bond to the rapidset the way it will to a regular cement surface, primed plaster wall, drywall or backing board like I've used in the past.
This is my second large interior wall mosaic, and I enjoy making some areas subtly three-dimensional. The substrate is a plastered brick wall covered with primer and thinset works just fine on the flat areas. Normally I make the raised area with either patching cement or thinset, let it dry for 24 hours, then use thinset as usual.
Do you think I'll have a problem?
Was wondering if Weldbond yellows over time or if it stays clear? What have been your experiences with it? I have been getting mixed messages onto whether it does yellow or not. Is there a better option out there?
For the project I am doing I really need the weldbond to be clear and bubble free any advice on achieving this? I am trying to adhere smooth very lightly tinted cathedral glass to photos, which have been glued down to a cradled wooden panel.
Thanks!
Hi! I’m new to mosaic but not to stained glass I wanted to use up some of my scrap glass. I’ve done one other mosaic and I liked how it came out but the corners/side pieces were so sharp!!!
I’m making a mosaic tissue box cover next. I haven’t settled on the exact pattern yet but any tips to make the edges/ side not so sharp? Should I buy rounded pieces for the sides and then fill in the rest?
I am new to mosaics and after conversing with some folks they pointed me toward mosaics for the new project I am working on; I originally was thinking of using glass clips. It involves very lightly tinted transparent smooth cathedral glass that is glued down to paper photos which have been glued to a cradled wooden panel.
Is it as simple as sealing the wooden cradle with gac100, gluing down photo with clear gloss/satin medium, and then using weld bond to glue down the glass on top? Is there a better more archival way? I have seen needing to score the wood and sand it is that necessary and if it is how can I do that with photos? Will I be able to see the glue under the piece of glass above the photo? Should I glue the photos down using a weldbond wash, could this provide a good surface for the glass? How long does the the weldbond adhesion last and does it yellow?
Any detailed and accurate video sources on this topic is greatly appreciated!
Thanks for any help and sorry for all the questions.
Guys I’m looking for a place online or in Toronto to buy ceramic mosaic tiles of all kinds please recommend places 😊😊😊😊
