Looking for furniture in the Mooresville area but trying to avoid Ashley or any of those cheap brands. Who can recommend a furniture place?
I’ve only been here for 2 months off and on this past year to preface this but is it just me or are there an extraordinary amount of cops out at night here? I don’t say that as a bad thing necessarily but I can count on more than one hand the amount of times I’ve been followed by an officer for multiple turns/lights. Is it because I have an out of state plate, maybe? It just gives me anxiety lol. It’s like they are baiting me into speeding or something.
I woke up this morning to my work vechicles drivers side mirror being completely destroyed over night by someone. If you see someone with passenger side damage to their car around the height of a mirror please reach out to me as someone did a hit and run on me last night. I live right in downtown area.
Small house but needs help badly. Dishes, bathroom, laundry and vacuuming. It’s not a charity thing; he’s willing to pay. Just don’t know where to turn. Suggestions?
This is a cautionary tale of how we have to watch out for our elderly parents.
For context, my parents live here in Mooresville and are in their 80s. They have big hearts but are overly trusting. My siblings and I just found out about the following issue and have stopped it, but this is 100% happening to others.
Back in February 2024 my parents were on Next Door Neighbor and came across a woman who was asking for help for her and her kids. My parents like to help people, so they reached out and began to help. They met the woman on a few occasions at her house. The woman has some elements of truth to her story, but once you start to dig, it all starts to unravel.
Here are just a few of the red flags which alerted me.
The woman would ask for help with her electric bill but told my parents the only way to send her money was through cash app because that is the only way she could pay her Duke bill.
Her daughter needed emergency surgery, but the hospital would not do the surgery unless the copay was paid first, but of course to her cash app only.
All this woman does in all of the Mooresville Mom groups is ask for help, beg for things, and give sad stories with more and more catastrophes. People point her to charities, but she asks for things and money. My parents on numerous occasions tried to take her to Feed NC, DSS, etc. and there was always a reason she could not go.
Whenever the daughter "was in the hospital" my parents offered to bring her food or come visit. Suddenly the daughter had to be rushed to a new hospital and she just wanted to buy food on the go with money sent to...you guessed it, her cash app.
I found an organization that was also helping her. Part of the woman's story is she claims her mom was in rehab from having a stroke. However, the story fed to my parents 3 months ago was the mom died and help was needed for funeral expenses. My parents paid for a funeral, cremation, and an urn. Is she in rehab or dead? How is that possible?
Last of many red flags I will post. She stated she worked for Wal-Mart for 2 months, but they did not pay her because her checks were going to another woman who had the same name. That's not how it works.
At the end of the day, this woman lied and conned my parents out of a substantial amount of money. All because of a heart-wrenching story designed to prey on older naïve parents. When myself and my siblings stepped in and told my parents to ask for literally anything to prove her story, the woman got snippy and stopped reaching out. All she wanted was money and gift cards.
The bottom line is 3 points.
I encourage people to help the less fortunate but do so in a manner so you know the resources you are giving are getting to people who actually need it. There are foster agencies, DSS, and FeedNC to name a few.
If you have older parents, be cautious of them. Listen and pick up on anything that sounds suspicious and ask questions. I picked up on an innocuous comment and it let me down this rabbit hole. Their job when we were younger was to protect us and teach us about the world. The world has changed and now the roles have reversed, and we need to protect our parents.
This woman is operating in at least Mooresville and is in all of the local mom groups, so please caution your wives to be on the lookout and make sure if they want to help someone, there are verifiable ways to go about it.
Her initials are DM. Her stories are a variation of how she has a 13-year-old and an autistic child, sick parents, health problems, etc. While I believe some things may be true, they are used to spin a con targeting women with children in the hopes of emotionally manipulating them to support her.
If you would like to discuss this further, I would be happy to offline.
I would hate for this to happen to anyone else's parents.
Hello! Just recently moved to the area from Southern California. And I am in the search to discover new places to try. I’d love to hear places you recommend and dishes you’d suggest or just get for yourself. Thank you and looking forward to reading what you all suggest(:
We added my mother in law to our Google Fi account, but apparently it's not working very well for her in Mooresville.
Please recommend some decent, inexpensive providers/plans so we can get her on something that works reliably. She uses wifi at home so she doesn't need a lot of data.
Thanks.
I have been hearing gun shots close to the Mooresville Intermediate School on Coddle Creek Highway for the past several months. Someone seems to be shooting in the afternoon to late evening. Maybe someone is having target practice in the new development across the street from the school? Is it allowed and/or legal to shoot a gun across no the street or next door to a School? And am I allowed to shoot my guns on my property? One neighbor said it’s not allowed that close to a school. I do appreciate my freedom and firearms and would like to target practice on my property. What are the laws and rules and regulations?
I live in the 28115 area, close to Mooresville Middle School. I'd like to join a gym for strength training after losing over 50 pounds ( I should have been doing this *during* my weight loss journey). Which gyms do you recommend that are close by..... so I won't have an excuse not to go!
Hello, I’m from out of town. This morning there was a child that was hit at the bus stop on W. Plaza Dr. in Mooresville. I arrived on the scene after it happened. if someone knows of a new story, can you please share it? I’d like to know how the child is doing. Thanks.
I’ve been wanting to try to go somewhere fun as a date instead of going out to eat but don’t got any ideas. does anyone know any ?
DON’T USE THE EMERGENCY LANE AS YOUR OWN VIP LANE.
I don’t know why this is something I even feel like I need to say. The entitlement is so strong today. The amount of people that use the emergency lane miles back from an exit is dangerous and I hope you all get tickets.
It’s an emergency lane for emergency vehicle access. When you back the emergency lane up for a mile, you’re preventing potentially life-saving services from reaching the folks that need them.
Shame folks that you know that do this. It’s illegal and a litmus test for if you’re a crappy person or not.
I’m a student at CCTL selling homemade dog treats to raise money for my grad project! If that interests you, please come support me! I’ll be here until 1:30-2:00. Or if you want to donate and support, dm me!
Does anyone know of a place to do a nightly jack-o’-lantern walk through. I found one in SC looking for that around here / Charlotte
Sunday from 12-5 is Crazy Cool Collectibles’ THC RAVE! (Thanksgiving, Halloween, Christmas Really Awesome Vendor Event). It’s a free event with over 50 vendors, food trucks, live band, a mobile rage room, and more!
348 North Main Street Mooresville, NC 28115
It’s a great opportunity to shop with some local vendors that don’t have brick-and-mortar storefronts! If you like to shop small and shop local for holiday gifts, this will be a great event for you!
Parking is next door door at Bank of America, across the street behind Fifth Third Bank, or anywhere downtown.
Note: I am not affiliated with the store or the event. But, the store owner is a friend and I have friends that are setting up booths there and I’m posting to help them get exposure.
