Taking a day trip from Sacramento. Will be there until 6pm-ish. What should I do today?
Hey, can any locals let me know what the fog / marine layer is like for visibility at the coast the last few days? What time does it clear up by if at all?
I’m coming next week, yet to book accom and deciding whether I go by the ocean for a view… or further inland if that view is just going to be fog!
Hello! Otter is my partner and my favorite animal and I would like to plan an anniversary trip to Monterey Bay to kayak and spot otters if the timing is not too off. I am thinking on the weekend of 12/21. I checked multiple posts that says Otters are there all year round but still wanted to double make sure if it is good idea to go on the weekend of 12/21 or if I should plan it in April/ May for better overall experience. I also checked past weather, it looks like it's a bit chilly with 60f during the day in December. I was wondering if kayaking is pleasant at that time?
Aside from the question for timing, I also welcome any suggestion of other activities. We are outdoorsy and likes nature a lot. Otter seeing is going to be the main theme for the trip, but I will try to fill the trip with other activities.
Thank you a lot!
Going up to Half Moon Bay next month and I can only play one of the courses. Which one should I play?

Specifically looking for good quality brisket
As the tile suggests. I am a product photographer and was hoping someone might know someone or somewhere I can acquire some wine grapes for a photo session? Preferably red. Thanks in advance.

Downtown Monterey smells horrible today 😭 those damn sea lions
Hi, I started a project called "connect Monterey" that I want to bring more third places to our county. What is a place in your area (maybe an open, empty, ugly street) or a wide, abandoned sidewalk that you'd like to see shining again?
I have an appt in the Seaside area Saturday morning and live about 45 mins away so instead of just driving right back I hope to take my pup with me, do some (lots, woops) homework, and sit with a meal/drink (non alc) maybe... is there such a place in the area I could go to?
As it says on the tin, I’m suddenly craving a good lobster bisque and was wondering if anyone has a solid recommendation.
I remember last year, there was a man with a truckload full of them selling in the empty lot next to the seaside post office, sadly this year, since they started construction on the apartments on that lot, I haven't been able to find someone selling them. Anyone know a place or person selling? I haven't been able to get my alter ready this year without it ;(
Hi everyone! I’m planning to participate in the Big Sur Marathon and am looking for accommodation recommendations. If you’ve stayed in the area before, I’d love to hear any suggestions for places that are convenient and comfortable for marathon weekend. Any tips on where to stay (or avoid) would be really helpful!
Folks,
I turn 65 next week and today I sold my little sports car and will now be using my 2017 Ford F150 exclusively. For my Medicare birthday I want to start tricking my truck out with some accessories such as a retractable tonneau cover and lightbar, but am also asking y’all what other accessories you like that have personalized your ride? And just as importantly are there any shops in the 831 that can do a makeover on my truck or do I need to hassle with the Bay Area? Any thoughts appreciated including those who think a 65yo should settle for an old van or a used Mercedes. Gotta fight old age!
Thanks,
Jeff
I saw this in the Monterey County Now and was shocked, what do ya'll think?
...the biggest housing project the city’s seen in years – formerly known as Ascent but since rebranded as Seagrove – hits the market come March 1. The 106-unit project, which the council approved in 2019, will have 16 affordable units, but the other 90 – a mix of one-, two – and three-bedroom apartments, as well as some townhomes, won’t likely be affordable to the vast majority of renters in the city.
The lowest starting rent for a one-bedroom apartment, according to Rene Ruiz, a regional manager with Apartment Management Consultants LLC, which manages the property, will be $3,796 per month. If someone were to only spend one-third of their income on rent, that would require an annual salary of $150,000.
For comparison, according to Zillow, the median rent for a 1BR apt in NYC is $3632 these days.
I watch the otter live streams as great background noise I noticed Selka isn't around much anymore. Genuine question is she okay??
Hi, I'm coming to Monterey for a trip soon and plan to go to Carmel Valley to stargaze late night since it has less light pollution.
Is there a safe place or spot in the area to sit or lay and stargaze?
Thanks
Ticket prices are high, but seeing Jerry Seinfeld at the Golden State Theatre seems like something that may never happen again.
ETA: Thanks to the replies I’ve now learned he does come around. But as he gets older I do still think the opportunities to see him, and see him here in town, will lessen. Tickets purchased!
Has anyone watched this video and is anyone interested in starting a petition to stop the building of a warehouse in Salinas? I'm also interested in hearing what people want to say about the pro's and cons of building this warehouse.
