All ya'll dopes saying "Thanks PGE"... take a look around. Our power lines are outdated. We let the trees grow over them. There's no money to fix it. Certainly no money to put them underground. Pge is barely hanging on to the absolute shitshow of California's grid. If they stopped for even one second, we'd be without power forever. No one organization works harder for less respect. They are first responders, as important as police or ambulance or fire. They show up when the weather is the worst, when a car accident takes a pole, or when natural disaster strikes. Our greed for power has far and away outstripped their ability to provide it, and here you are, poopooing them. Its Christmas, how many of you bought electronics this year? How many drive an E.V.? Maybe if yall would let them put a nuclear plant in, but no, not in my backyard. Solar helps, but when the sun goes down, who is providing your power? A few remaining plants and dams- and those are being persecuted to death as we speak. Unless you have a generator, batteries and solar, you aren't helping. PGE is really no longer an electricity producer, most of what they do is transmission, and there's zero funding to fix our outdated lines. Every storm, every outage is a result of poor planning on ALL of our parts. Yes- we can blame PGE for most, or all of it. There has been GREAT mismanagement of resources and funding. Some embezzling and other more nefarious crap too. But that doesn't help our situation. They are the only organization that can help us at this point. Power is a luxury, not a right. It exists because good men go to work to deliver it. Give the lineman the respect he's due. Or live in the darkness. This coming from a solar installer, I should be in opposition to PGE, right? Wrong- they provide classes and education to solar installers. They need us as much as yall need them. Look at the big picture for once! But most of all, quit complaining unless you're going to DO something about it.
There is no post. My power is out again and I'm 50 shades of done with this shit.
I moved to Monterey 3 weeks ago and the power is now out a 3rd time. Please tell me this is not normal.
Just wanted to thank all the wonderful residents who enjoyed the Christmas carols tonight. I didn't know if people would appreciate the old school neighborhood caroling, but everyone was super nice!
We had a few separate groups in multiple locations and everyone came back with stories of happy residents and a wonderful community. Hopefully we get even more people next year! If we didn't get your neighborhood or you weren't home, let me know and I'll add your street to next year's route!
Looking for best premade Christmas dinners in our area. We lost my wife this week to cancer and am trying to make Christmas happen for our 4 kiddos, but I have zero energy. Looking for a place that offers red meat as my girls are big fans. Thanks.
Me and my partner were casually walking on the side walk near downtown Seaside tonight then the driver of a red Mazda SUV flashed their brights at us and stuck their arm out the window flipping us off. It was so bizarre, random and kinda off putting. Has anyone else experienced anything similar with the same driver/car??

Update: They have been located!
A friend of mine sent me this Neiman-Marcus ad, cracking up that they're selling tamales. I compared it to the Vallarta ad we all got this week and... y'all, Neiman-Marcus is selling tamales for half the price Vallarta is. If you do the math, each dozen from Neiman-Marcus is $15 and change while Vallarta is $31.99 per dozen.

Today I called PG&E over my electricity bill (which I already paid) being higher the usual even though electricity prices are slightly cheaper right now. While on the phone with a representative they mentioned that my gas usage was low, I explained that I don’t use my gas heater because it’s old and sometimes hesitates to spark and sometimes I would get a gas smell. So I turned the gas heater off by turning the valve to off and haven’t had any smell of gas for over a year. The PG&E customer services representative took it as a gas leak investigation and as soon as I returned home within an hour of that phone call, my gas was turned off. I really do not understand in what world a call about my electricity bill ended with me getting my gas shut off. I spoke to a Customer service supervisor and they said that unless I am home they cannot turn it back on without going inside and doing an investigation.
near new monterey
Thanks
I’m new to the area, and am looking for places that have photo booths, and print out pix!
Looking for comments to submit to represented officials, PG&E, municipalities, and CPUC,.
Please refrain from profanity and feel free to include monetary harm if there was any.
For example: "Due the power outage over the last weekend, my household had to throw away over $200 in groceries." or "I own a local business and due to the power outage we were not able to operate and had to send home our 3 employees."
Feel free to DM me privately, especially if you are worried about including any personal details.
There isn't even any wind this time 💀 power out two weekends in a row. I really need to do laundry FFS.
Edit: Two days later another outage. Bravo 👏
Who can show me some love this Sunday? I'm looking for someone who can tattoo my face for the low!
It’s an absolute joke in this town. It’s been impossible finding therapy/mental health services. I guess it’s also the countries issue but this area specifically is terrible does anyone have any recommendations?
Any recommendations for a good company that will sand and refinish hardwood floors at a reasonable price?
I’m not one of those people who has infinite money like some of these homes in Pebble, Carmel, the valley etc - sadly I feel like a lot of rates in the area are inflated because of those spots and the all-cash flippers and landlords in the area.
We are considering a DIY but want to get some ideas first.

I'm 17 and I'm trying to better myself as I am lacking in many regards, trying to keep this short so basically I'm looking to volunteer doing anything really that's hands on, woodworking, landscaping, farm or ranch work. Whatever. Trading work for a good opportunity. I do online school so clubs and what not are not at my disposal as well as I don't know many people around here so my connections are few. If anyone knows of small businesses or anything that would be good to contact about volunteer work let me know too. Feel free to pm also, thanks
any recommendations for somewhere to stay for one night at around $100? looking at staying either 28th or 29th
Can anyone suggest where I can get large amount of kitchen knives sharpened? My grandmother always used to go somewhere in Pacfic Grove but I never asked her where she took them. I am home for Christmas and want to get my parents knives sharpened as a gift while I’m here. They aren’t going to want to deal with a wet stone or anything so I would love some suggestions. Even if I have to go to Santa Cruz. But I would prefer something local so that I can have time to pick them up before I leave.
So I’ve heard that The Brit has been bought by the owners of The Butter House in Seaside, and they are going to open a new Butter House here in downtown.
We love the Butter House, not so sure I’m happy about the loss of another good bar here in downtown Monterey
It'd just be nice to be around people with aligning interests and feel a sense of community that I've largely lacked in Monterey. Obviously SJ, San Fran, and Oakland have larger communities, but I don't always have the capacity(or the will) to travel that far.
Edit: Can't imagine how sensitive you'd have to be to downvote a post like this. It's literally why this subreddit exists - to connect people in the local area lol
Since the Om sponsored free community yoga at Lululemon studios closed (or so I heard), are there any new community yoga places that are free and on a weekly basis?
Anyone have a suggestion for a good housekeeper?
Hi! I’m new to the area and was hoping to link up with any orienteering if they exist. Couldn’t find any through google or asking at REI so I thought I would try here.
I'm searching for a present that I was hoping to get from a local Retailer and was looking for some ideas on stores that might have it.
I need a woman's Beany that has a bill in it. Any help is greatly appreciated. Happy Holidays
