What do y’all think of Mullaghmatt?

I used to live in Monaghan Town, and people used to say that Mullaghmatt was a bad/dodgy place, but everyone I ever met from Mullaghmatt was really nice. What do yous think?

Is the Wi-Fi decent in Monaghan town?

Hi folks, I see there aren’t many recent posts here so I hope this still gets a decent response. A little back story: I live in Dublin in my own apartment and my gf is pregnant. I do have a spare bedroom though my apartment would be quite cramped with a child living there considering all the space their bits and bobs take up. I could never afford a house in Dublin so I’ve been thinking that maybe we should move to Monaghan. I spent a lot of my childhood summers there and have plenty of extended family in the area. I’m an avid gamer though, and I’d be miserable if I didn’t have decent internet. My brother used to live in Tyholland and the internet he had there was not the best to say the least. So can anyone living in Monaghan town please tell me the name of their provider and if their connection speed is any good? Upload/download speeds and your location would be most appreciated.

Electrical industry jobs

Does anyone know what the job market is like for electricians in Monaghan or the surrounding areas? Either for self-employed or for a company.

Genealogy resources?

My father’s mother came over to the US from Monaghan as a young adult nearly a century ago. She’s long since passed, and never talked about what it was like there. I’d like to come and see it for myself and possibly meet with relatives still there, but am having a hard time getting information. Is there any local resource for this?

Any good places to go?

Mornin lads and lassies! I’ll be coming over to Monaghan for three months this summer/autumn. Im from Germany and I’ve never been to Ireland before, so I’m really excited for it, but I’m not quite sure what places I should definitely go to. Got any good ideas?

What's the best Pub in the County?

Coming from the town there's a couple that could definitely be up there. Would like to hear of a couple from the Blayneys, Carricks, Emyvales and perhaps Ballybays of our fair old land.

Judgement is on the following criteria:

  1. Look and Atmosphere of the pub.
  2. The craic from the regulars.
  3. Quality of the pint. Guinness as a rule of thumb.
  4. A good selection of alcholol, Gin, whisky, Ale's etc.
