Who was the best Whig president?

I’ve been looking into presidents a lot lately because I’ve gotten into politics tremendously over the past 3 years. The Whig presidents have for some reason gained my attention lately and I’ve been learning about all of them. In your opinion who was the best Whig president? Can we even say one of them was better then the rest because of how short the was in office?

All responses welcome! How do you identify politically, and what brought you to the Modern Whig party?

Hello, new user here. At this moment, we find ourselves in the midst of a some very real, tangible schisms among the two major political parties in the US.

When I learned about the Modern Whig party, I was very surprised- shocked actually. And excited. To me, at first glance at least, it seems that this party genuinely represents the infrastructure for the third party option that the American people overwhelmingly want: A moderate party that takes a pragmatic and sincere approach to political issues- recognizing that (1) the ideological dogma from the far corners of both the right and left will taint any attempts to make effective policy, (2) Effective, rational policy IS possible by taking the most factual and logical cohesive points from right and left wing platforms, and (3) The unending tribalism and political theatre between the two parties is altogether unsustainable and fails to deliver political goods to citizens.

My question to all of you is, (1) Who are you? How do you identify yourselves? Are you more liberal, or more conservative? Authoritarian, or libertarian? Centrist griller perhaps? Feel free to describe yourself in as much or little detail as possible, I'm very interested.

My second question is, (2) Why did you choose the Modern Whig Party? In what ways did you feel disappointed with the two-party system? If you vote, do you end up going with any specific party?

I believe that the more we can identify what we dislike about our current political climate, the more we can work to create feasible, and creative policy solutions that work to everyone's benefit. Thanks in advance!

Bring Back the Whig Party!

I'm so sick of the current two party system of U.S. politics. It's horribly backward. It's not a simple political "spectrum" where you're in the left or the right, it's ridiculous and outdated. Look what's happening right now with the shutdown. No one gets along because everyone is part of the "other team" and they have to win at all costs, which means the other side has to lose. We all lose. This sucks.

First of all, I think Trump is an idiot and the type of person I can't stand to be around (I had a boss in the financial industry a lot like him) but I agree with some of his ideas and policies (tariffs, for example). On the flip-side, I thought Obama was a great, smart, eloquent person who I would love to have a beer/dinner with, but I thought some of his policies were awful (racial rhetoric, for example). Suffice to say, I don't fit in with the intolerant left, a.k.a, the /r/politics subreddit, and I don't fit in with the radical and equally intolerant /r/The_Donald. Both subs are full of bots and insane people. Trust me, I have been down-voted a lot.

I find a lot in common with the Whig party. Economic progress, real fiscal discipline (has anyone looked at the national debt? Huge problem. A lot of pain ahead), and equality of opportunity (not the blood thirsty "social justice" movement we have now) a focus on rebuilding a common American culture of solidarity, cohesion, and cooperation, with a focus on bipartisanship, within, hopefully, a post-racial environment. A lot to ask, yes. Probably won't happen within my lifetime.

In the meantime, I want to change my voter registration to Whig. I live in Florida. Where do I sign up?

FEC exemption to press entities.

"FEC regulations provide an exemption that allows certain nonprofit organizations and the news media to stage debates, without being deemed to have made prohibited corporate contributions to the candidates taking part in debates. This exception is consistent with the traditional role these organizations have played in the political process. This article describes the guidelines for nonprofits and news media-sponsored debates."

https://www.fec.gov/updates/fec-rules-governing-public-debates/

"Fired Up!, a left-leaning Web log, is a press entity and so is exempt from the campaign finance laws just as major media organizations are, the Federal Election Commission unanimously agreed in an advisory opinion last week."

https://www.rcfp.org/fec-says-political-web-log-exempt-campaign-law/

"Since Ethiq is not owned or controlled by any political party, political committee, or candidate and because it will make its news material available to the general public and distribution of such content will be consistent with its ordinary business operation, the Commission concluded that Ethiq meets the second part of the analysis to determine whether the media exemption applies. The fact that information will be based on a user's stated preferences does not change the journalistic nature of the news content provided.

Since Ethiq qualifies as a press entity and is neither owned nor controlled by any candidate, political party or political committee, and will be engaged in typical press activities by providing news-related content to its users, the Commission concluded that Ethiq's proposed activities are within the scope of the Act's media exemption."

The Future of /r/ModernWhigs.

It's becoming increasingly clear that the Modern Whigs are no longer an active entity.

From what I can tell, going off of the official twitter accounts for the Modern Whigs and their state affiliates, they are switching over to the Alliance Party. Their names have been changed to represent this: for example, the NC Modern Whigs have become the NC Alliance Party; the Utah Whig Outreach group have become the Utah Alliance Outreach group; and so on.

As such, I'm not sure if this subreddit will keep going. Previously, we were operating under the assumption that the Independents Alliance is just that: an alliance of different parties towards one goal. With this change, as well as the Whig leadership completely switching over into the Alliance Party, that is no longer the case.

If you're still interested in following the Modern Whigs, or if you simply want to be a part of their successor organization, /r/AllianceParty is where that'll be going on. As of now, I will no longer be posting to this subreddit, and myself and the rest of the moderation team will no longer be involved with its management. At some point in the future, possibly a week from now, we'll see about making this subreddit redirect to the /r/AllianceParty subreddit.

I'm sorry the Modern Whigs have to end this way. While I'm not involved in any official capacity with the Modern Whigs, I just want to say: thank you for taking a step forward in making our nation a better place with the Modern Whigs, and I hope we can continue getting our independent movement started with the Alliance Party of the United States.

Should the Modern Whig Party use alternative fundraising methods?

Use crowdpac or gofundme to raise money to buy national and local TV ad spots to ask for donations to the Modern Whig Party. Maybe raise money to change state election laws like easier access to the ballot, proportional representation and approval, score,STAR or 3-2-1 voting method.
