Three thousand years ago, the greatest sailors in the world voyaged across the vast South Pacific, discovering the many islands of Oceania. But then, for a millennium, their voyages stopped — and no one today knows why.
A young woman uses her navigational talents to set sail for a fabled island. Joining her on the adventure is her hero, the legendary demi-god Maui.

If Maui is the demigod of the wind and see, what is Moana the demigod of? What would her official title be?
I talked about that earlier yesterday, but I will talk more this time... The movie was good first of all, it wasn't perfect but it has its moments. The feeling of the victory is unique but at what cost? that's what concerns me when we arrive to this movie or even a future movie (if it would be announced) it's really concerning me about the fact that she died temporarily in that scene and I will admit it honestly I was traumatized from that scene, Yes all right she's okay and she's fine, but it's more concerns me about future movies, to prevent sad moments which I won't want to see... Either way mainly what make this movie good for me is that the success of Moana, and main protagonist doing her thing not getting a rough and terrible fate....
Like I said I talked about it yesterday, but I just think what I do not to see in Moana 3 (if it will happen of course) and saying also that I recommend watching Moana 2 it will be really worth it, But you need to keep personality strong... Peace out!
Everyone hating probably wasn’t as hooked on the old one. As part of the Moanaverse, I get the movie was pretty complete. I genuinely enjoyed the plot, and felt it was proper, and I think the plot was pretty close to the first movie in terms of how enjoyable it was. The music wasnt on par with the first movie and it felt like they were trying too hard to mimic the first one while trying to be different at the same time and it didn’t hit the same. This isn’t to say it was bad, it’s to say it wasn’t able to meet or exceed the first movies soundtrack, though I will say it came close. Dwayne’s song and the get lost song were my favorite songs for sure, and those two definitely hold a candle to the first movies standards, maybe even hold top spots overall for me.
(Now the spoiler bits) The plot progression was off, and I think it was because it had to do with the movie staring off as a show, but I think that’s where the third film will come in. It felt like they were trying to cram things into a movie and left out other parts because some of the scenes seemed like they’d be fitting in a more elaborate setting or if sections went on a bit longer with more plot to them. I’m hoping they figure out the pacing of the third movie (kinda like the way they paced across the spider verse out). Also I loved Maui and Moana’s dynamic in this movie like they’re seasoned adventurers teaming up again for more, and they really ironed out the synergy between them in this. I saw the demigod Moana bit coming from the first movie, but the way they did it was beautiful in this movie. I really wanted to see more of Matangi in the third movie because I really really liked her, especially her dynamic with Maui, I’d love to see the two banter more. I didn’t really like her ragtag team of humans, but I did enjoy their interactions. Each brought something to the table (except Kele, he didn’t really do much, and not to be that guy but Moni didn’t really do much either), especially Loto, she kinda carried and I feel like if it was stretched like a show these characters would have played a bigger role. For me Maui and Moana as demigods was my favorite portion. I loved the scene with Maui and the ancestors performing the ritual the gods performed on him to make her a demigod too and bring her back to life. I got so emotional and had goosebumps throughout the movie, it was splendid. Another favorite was Maui lifting the island… I didn’t think I needed to see that but man did it feel good to watch that.
Moana is my favorite movie of all time, and I’m happy to say Moana 2 is up there as either 2nd or 3 rd place. I can see how some people may not have seen it as such a great thing but it was not as bad as some are making it to be. It was a pretty good movie and the only two major flaws it suffered were 1. Trying too much to carry the old movies spirit (in more ways than one) and 2. The pacing wasn’t optimal. Other than that my unbiased rating of this movie is a solid 8.5/10.
So, everyone's talking about Moana 2 for good reasons, but I figured I'd bring up this movie. An interesting thought I had is what exactly are they gonna change from the original and what would they keep? Could literally be anything. Feel free to put thoughts down below.
i just finished watching Moana 2 in theatres and the whole time I couldn't help but notice how queercoded Loto is. from the way she acts and is so hands on and sterotypical lesbiany. idk. As a lesbian its giving total queer vibes. So honestly its kinda just my gaydar here. She might not be lesbian but shes defintitly not straight. Not to mention that her voice actor is queer which kinda points to her being fruity...? Anyone else agree?
CHILL OUT IM HAVING A BIT OF FUN
I saw Moana 2 on Wednesday and I felt like there wasn't really a need for all the new characters. Some of them like Moana's sister and Matangi were nice but I dont really understand the need for the farmer guy and Moni considering the have basically no plot development and very few lines. I understand them wanting to have new characters but I feel like they could at least make them more influential to the story, especially when they're cutting out old characters like Tefiti and Tamatoa.
DURING THE SECOND MOVIE w movie btw ME AND MY SIS HERD IN THE DISTANCE “hello would you like to have some fun” YES THAT FUCKING COMPUTER FROM SPRUNKI THEN THE AMAZING DIGITAL CIRCUS THEME PLAYED I FUCKING HATE IPAD KIDS
Yet, the Demi-god is rescued by Moana’s crew floating away in the ocean.
Plot hole?!
Hello everybody, I watched Moana 2 yesterday. While it may not be as good as the first one, I still liked watching it. What got my attention was a lot of people’s reactions to it. Some people thought it was alright, some didn’t like it which I kind of get but what really surprised me was some people saying that it was immoral and demonic. Someone wanna explain that to me?
Did anybody else get nonbinary and/or autism vibes from Loto? It took me about 3 seconds from seeing them to be like yep that bitch us nonbinary and autistic.
Let’s all be serious, Moana 2 was a terrible movie and there is no way to redeem it as it was terrible.
The only part of the movie that I actually enjoyed was when Moana died and was resurrected by Maui and the ancestor, who somehow was able to transform Moana into goddess.
Nalo, voiced by comedian Fepulea’i, would return as the main villain and his main goal goes from trying to keep the humans separate as he is the one who caused the long pause to wanting to just straight up obliterate all humanity, or at least some some, as he feels like the less humans there is, the less chance humans will be a problem for him.
The reason as for why Nalo hates humans isn’t really explored in the movie, but hopefully the movie can come up with a good reason.
Maybe he feels like humans have taken advantage of the Gods and now want to end them. Which is a simple motivation, but he can come off as a intimidating threat.
Nalo has the power to not only command the power of sea creatures like Tamatoa, but he can also remove other gods powers.
So Nalo gets beings like Tamatoa and others to bring every islander together so it can be easier for him to kill them all.
Nalo could be the thanos of the Disney Universe where he collects different islands and kills them.
Maui then inform Moana about a goddess that can control life and death named Hine Nui Te Po that could theoretically in his mind protect them from Nalo and his powers.
Maybe Moana can go on this mission with herself and Maui or we could have a team of characters representing different South Pacific islands, with Moana being the leader and representing Moutuni.
In the end, Maui would end up dying in a battle against hine nui te po, and this is when Moana is all alone in her journey, now forced to face Nalo for the final third act after Maui dies.
Maybe the movie could also introduce Maui older long-lost brothers as supporting characters if they don’t go with the whole idea of Moana forming a team of islanders and we learn more about Maui past.
Does Moana have diabetes? Her left leg looks a little swollen. Has anyone noticed?
The biggest opening for an animated film (surpassing The Super Mario Bros. Movie)
As I was watching Moana 2, I realized that Matangi, whose name means ‘air’ in Polynesian, holds a deeper symbolic meaning.
She is trapped beneath the ocean as part of Nalo’s curse, her presence suspended and subdued like air trapped under water.
Air below the ocean forms bubbles that are constantly under pressure, always seeking release to rise to the surface where they belong.
Similarly, Matangi is not inherently villainous but represents a force of nature desperate to break free. Her struggle mirrors the universal desire for liberation and balance—a powerful metaphor for resilience and reclaiming one’s rightful place.
This can also be realized in her song, saying, “Get lost, cut loose, and lose your way…,” reveals Matangi’s longing to escape the limitations imposed on her by Nalo’s curse.
The lyrics evoke a rebellious spirit, urging others to abandon safety and embrace the unknown, much like an air bubble trapped underwater, defying pressure and striving to break free.
Before I begin, Disney I am available and I am much cheaper than you currently are paying. Just saying in case you like it.
Plot Theory:
Nalo and Te Fiti was in love. Te Fiti is the God of Creation. Nalo is the God of Storms (and Chaos, is what I would add in the sequel).
Te Fiti gave power to the Demi God's, like Maui. Nalo has the power to take/consume.
Nalo and Te Fiti are balance. One creates, the other destroys. Life and Death. Together, harmony.
When Maui takes the Heart of Te Fiti, and becomes Te Kā, Nalo lost his love for 1000 years.
This sends Nalo on a path of hate, because a former Human, now Demigod, Maui, took his love from him.
There is no God of Creation to keep the balance. Nalo cuts off the world from each other, so that the Humans suffer because he now suffers because of them.
Now, Te Fiti has returned but Nalo has changed. He longs to control humans and is on a path of hate.
We learn that there are other gods like Matangi that fear Nalo, but also hate Maui because they were imprisoned because of him.
The only way to stop Nalo is to have Te Fiti stop him, but Nalo sends many God's after Maui and now Moana, a Wayfinder that possess power and a connection to the Spirit Realm and the Sea.
Nalo imprisons the God of Spirits to cut off the connection to the Spirit Realm. Moana cannot receive guidance like before.
This time, Maui cannot stop the other Gods alone. Maui must take Moana on a journey to become a Demigod.
They build a larger vessel, and warrior outfits are made. Joining the crew are the returning Crew from Moana 2, Moana's Father, and a member from each other Island.
The journey is a bit like the Pirate's of the Caribbean: At Worlds End when they need to rescue Jack. That type of vibe.
Nalo (as a Storm) and other Gods are already there waiting for them. They attack the vessel and Maui holds them off for as long as he can when the help of Moana as she uses her glowing Tattoos and Oar to use the Sea against them. Moana makes it to the place of power, a direct line of power to Te Fiti who answers the call. Nalo is upset but happy to feel the power of Te Fiti again and then furious that she opposed him. Nalo tells the Gods to go to Te Fiti and capture her, Moana hears this.
They manage to escape from the help of Moana's Father, who sacrifices himself to collapse the place of power.
Now a Demigod, her tattoos spread but not quite like Maui's. But she learns she is not fully a Demigod yet for some reason. Maui says it's because she is the Demigod of the Sea...and Spirits. Without access to the Spirits, she's only at half power.
Now it is a race against time to free the God of Spirits.
Matangi is guarding the God of Spirits and it is Matangi vs Maui, Moana and the Crew.
When Matangi learns that Nalo is going after Te Fiti, she ends up joining them along with the Spirit God. Then, Moana sees her Grandma and her Father and after their hug, she becomes a full Demigod.
They arrive at the island of Te Fiti and Nalo is there with her in chains made of lightning.
Moana, Maui, Matangi, Spirit God and Crew vs Nalo and the Gods.
Maui can't free Te Fiti but she gives him a look. Suddenly, Te Kā breaks out of the lighting chains and is taking on Nalo. He is becoming overwhelmed by her power. Moana uses her power of the Sea to place her heart back, and Te Fiti is still unable to completely stop Nalo alone.
Moana uses her Sea and Spirit power to summon her ancestors (in the form of sea creatures like her Grandma and now Father), and her ancestors are able to hold Nalo down long enough to let Te Fiti reach his heart.
Harmony has returned to the world.
Moana and Maui and the crew return to her island. She embraces her mother and her sister, who looks much like she did in the first film. Her tattoos glow and her grandma and father appear and they all share a hug. And then ancestors appear to all of the island and family members get to see the ones they have lost again.
Moana is able to stay with them but she must also still be the God of Sea and Spirits. The island needs a new Wayfinder, and Moana gifts her sister, Simea, an Oar and raft and on the Raft is the crew waiting for her.
Moana and Maui set off in one direction, Maui as the Eagle and Moana riding the Sea wave with her Grandma and Father spirit animals beneath her and Simea and the Crew go off in the other direction to explore the new world.
End.
I will have depression if it's not going to be a good ending, and yes it's that serious! I just had to share my anxiety for y'all
I was walking in the mall and spotted this dress on display and did a double take. This is definitely inspired, right??
It's from Tory Burch
3.Since Maui and Moana are immortal, how will they respond to the changing world? New Technology? WRITTEN LANGUAGE? Also, it would be a good idea for Moana to finally get Maui’s joke of the gods doing a butt dial.
(spoiler to be safe) but I thought that at the end of Moana she placed the shell on the mountain and that meant she became chief, but apparently in Moana 2 that's not the case and it's still her dad?
On the same note I thought the whole point of the end of Moana 1 that they started voyaging again and that they were leaving Montonui behind? But then in Moana 2 they're still at Montonui? Make it make sense!
side note: I loved the movie, this is just a nitpick that's been bugging me!
Remember when baby Moana helped the baby turtle get into the ocean in the beginning? I hope they make a scene where she sees the grown up turtle in the ocean and it waves at her. That would warm my heart.
I also want to see Simea meet her grandma.
Hej, new here and just want to check if i'm the only one with this feeling. He is with here in both movies, a bit of a joker (he answers all her calls with the shell etc). He finds the pottery and is before her on the mountain, physics are no rules for him. he solves the conflict with the coconuts (and they answer this with a premium treatment), he often works towards a solution but can't even eat, i think this is mascarade. and he is quite old for a chicken in part 2. I know, the last part says nothing in a disney movie but i have the feeling, he may be some sort of trickster god, one that helps her to find her way and people. A bit like prometheus or so. Doesn't anyone have a feeling that the chicken is a bit more than only a chicken?
Aside from Maui referencing a butt dial and his tattoo breaking the fourth wall, have you noticed any easter eggs in the movie?
