Three thousand years ago, the greatest sailors in the world voyaged across the vast South Pacific, discovering the many islands of Oceania. But then, for a millennium, their voyages stopped — and no one today knows why.
A young woman uses her navigational talents to set sail for a fabled island. Joining her on the adventure is her hero, the legendary demi-god Maui.

The bringing together of all the tribes is a bad idea. One of them could have designs on bringing all the others to heel and creating a seafaring empire. Perhaps that might happen in Moana 3 with them siding with Nalo.
I just read a lot of people saying that the second movie had a lot of scenes that hinted at romance. I think I noticed it myself too, but then brushed it off at the theatre because I question myself a lot. However, seeing others bring it up made me think about this more.
Which scenes do you guys mean? Which scenes, in particular, are scenes where romance is hinted? Additionally, what in the scene suggests romance? ( for example; for me the idea of romance came to mind when moana and maui meet again. In excitement she puts her palms on his chest (this action in-itself isn't inherently platonic if you ask me), then realizes it may be "too much", withdraws and giggles in an awkward/flustered manner. Or did I interpret it wrong? )
Is there a possibility that they'd be turned into a couple in the future? Maybe in the third movie or even fourth (if we're lucky to get that, the third seems very likely even though it hasn't been confirmed yet).
I’ll tell you why… the story, the corny semi-forced comedy, and the music, the music, the music…. Every single song on Moana 1 was a classic and timeless hit. In Moana 2 it feels like it’s gone through some corporate Board that’s lacks imagination and just does what the algorithms think people like. It’s just so common and vanilla. No emotion, rhythm, power, intonation, etc. I’m disappointed. Am I wrong? Should I be looking at it differently?
Is moana 2 available in HD yet ? i could only find HdRip which has a weird audio like cam,
maybee maui changed himself to giant hawk and land with her on his back? honestly I don't think she flew away with him...but if she didn't what's the next possible way? what y'all think
I’m Native Hawaiian (Kānaka Maoli) and I loved the original Moana. I felt like it was a great representation of Pacific Islanders, our wayfinding/navigation culture, our warrior culture, and especially our music.
Moana 2 just didn’t feel right. The art was beautiful, but the story felt off. The music wasn’t memorable and it surely lacked an Islander vibe. In fact, much of it felt generic.
This was an opportunity to introduce more of our rich mythology, but someone really dropped the ball there.
Why didn’t the story continue from where it seemed we left off in the original: Moana and her family continuing the navigation tradition and moving on to new lands. It felt like the ending of Moana was just scrapped for a cookie-cutter repeat formula of the first movie.
And did I miss something or did we not get closure with Matangi (the bat lady demigoddess)? Was she freed? Btw, the run-in with her pales in comparison to our moment in the original with Tamatoa.
I also feel like Nalo (the angry thunder god) was just glossed over as an antagonist and the encounter with him was pitiful compared to our battle with Te Kā. I mean, he really wasn’t a character at all.
The grandma and ancestors were brought in for rinse and repeat feels like in the original, but it didn’t have nearly as much feels nor did it carry as much weight. Again, it just felt like reused material and very generic.
Love Moana, but my expectations for the sequel were not met.
i have some extra stuff from moana 2 in korea (collectible ticket, dolby poster, and main poster) that im trying to sell. i havent had much luck here since people dont like buying from foreigners but im visiting home in the us this month so i can send it then !! just lmk what youd be willing to pay if youre interested :)
I liked the movie and thought it was a good sequel.
I expected it to feel more disjointed since it came from what was supposed to be a Disney+ show.
My only things that I didn't like as much as the first movie were to do with the songs:
-- In some songs they were rapping so fast that I couldn't tell what they were saying sometimes, tbh.
-- These songs felt like a bit more modern to the point that they all felt similar. They all had similar feels to them, besides the one where Maui is cheering Moana up. For some reason this kinda led to them not standing out from one another as much for me. (Shiny, Your Welcome, I am Moana, etc. all had different unique feels to them.) Also the songs in this movie didn't hit as hard. They were good and fun to listen to, but weren't as hard hitting/didn't stand out as much.
-- I felt that the plot moved a bit fast, but that might be because it was originally supposed to be a Disney+ show. To be fair I also though the first Moana moved a bit fast upon first watch, but grew to not think so over time.
Now for some things I liked outright:
-- I liked how they upped the stakes/made it more serious: In the first movie, Moana was optimistic out there to prove herself while this movie had her responsibilities be more heavy set, concrete, and overbearing. In the first movie: everytime people seemed like they were about to die the death blow was avoided (Maui in Tamatoa's mouth being fooled by Moana's fake heart of Tefiti, Moana's near death at the hands of Tekka (Te'Ka?) being avoided by Maui's intervention, and Maui's choice to sacrifice himself to buy Moana more time being avoided by Moana figuring out that Tefiti was Tekka.), but in this move those who are threatened to get hit by death blows actually get hit and take the full brunt: Maui taking the storm God's full wrath & Moana sacrificing herself to touch the island.
-- I liked how Moana getting the demi-goddess tattoos, even though it seemed like it was going to, didn't come at the cost of Maui's status as a demigod as represented by his tattoos. His hook was returned to him, resulting in 2 demigods. Maona's elevation didn't have to come at Maui's expense. This is something the 1st movie did well as well, btw.
-- I liked How Maui started the chant to bring Moana back and How Maui got to see Moana's ancestors: the people who he did his mythical deeds for.
-- I liked how the other people from the other islands seemed to be from different countries/peoples/continents. Idk how accurate it might be to history (I'll be excited for a history buff to answer that question, though.), but I liked it.
-- I liked how both parts of Moana's world from the 1st movie got to interact: both her people, home, and island got to interact and mix with Maui, The Ocean's consciousness, and the Kakamora. (I particularly liked the people's reactions to Maui, especially that of Moana's parents and sister. I also liked how Maui interacted with the people.
In short I loved it.
Even though it did well in the box office, I think everyone agrees the songs were a let down. For the third film (there has to be one, right?) do you think Disney is going to bring Lin back?
Have any of you listened to and/or an opinion on the localized (non-EN) versions of the songs?
In particular I'm asking because of the german version of the end credits song, as performed by Helene Fischer - an artist who I would normally never listen to (because I'm under the age of 75), but I just think it's a really great performance vocally. In my purely subjective and uneducated opinion it makes the original version seem almost .... cheap..
What zodiac sign do you think suits Moana characters?? I'd say Moana as Scorpio, Maui as Leo... Do we know when is Moana's birthday??
I like to listen to both Moana 2 and Moana one soundtracks bc they’re great and i’ve learned almost all the lyrics for every song
What do you all think about Tui and Sina's reaction had to be? What must have been going through their heads when they saw Moana's oar with Maui's decoration on it? I think they've must be like " oh wait, what's going on here?" Because Moana probably never showed a big interesting in men in the village so what they had to be thinking on Maui's heart on her oar??
Were you surprised to see Tamatoa again in Moana 2?
I know this version can be found in libraries and other educational spaces, but that's not physically possible in my case (I'm in Brazil).
Aren't there any digital copies to buy or borrow? Or any alternatives?
Thanks!
In Moana 2 we see maui floating in the water when they went to save him but he says he can’t float OR can he float when he doesn’t have his DemiGod powers because he did get it taken away for a bit
Even among fans of Moana 2’s songs and music, this song gets overlooked. It’s charming and nice to listen to, Loto’s parts in particular.
