Hey, I know this question has likely been asked before but I haven’t gotten a good answer. I’m 16 right now, and I’m planning on joining the Navy Reserves after I graduate High School. Can 17 y/os get Navy FCU/USAA Accounts during boot or will I have to figure out an account with my parents? Opening account with my parents is largely not an option for me.
So I am trying to decide between these 2, the thing is that I don’t want to be in the military for a long time maybe 5 years max. For the Marines I wanted to be recon for 3 years and then MSG for the last 2 years. If I were to do it for the Army it would just be Rangers. After the military I want to do something in federal law enforcement. What would be better if I just want experience and then get out. I’m just divided between the 2 because with the Corps I like their discipline, culture, tradition and uniforms. But with the Army Ranger I like how quick it is to get in, the better funding, and better missions. Thanks
Just because one branch rejects you doesn't mean another will right? I only ask because I was rejected by the Navy.
Hi Everyone,
I recently got a call from my Air Force recruiter stating that my waiver for lexapro I have been off of for 16 months was denied. I was told I have to wait almost 2 years to reapply for a waiver, sergent general wanted to see 3 years mental stability. Is there anything I can do to fight this? Should I try to go to a different branch? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Thank you
I have a passion for helping people improve their lives. I love assisting others and find gratification in it, even if I'm not a saint. I volunteer at the Y, I never turn away homeless people asking for money, and I even go to jail once a week to pray with inmates.
I don't mean to brag or say, "Look at me, I'm so good," I recognize that I'm a bit of a sucker for a sad story, but I genuinely believe I could be a good recruiter. I'm also very organized, though I lack sales experience, which seems helpful.
Can you enlist as a recruiter? How long does it take to become one? Can officers serve as recruiters? I have a degree in theology, but I’m unsure if ministry is my calling. I think I could help more people as a recruiter. What's the best branch to be a recruiter in?
I was told I can't become a warrant officer out the gate but that after a few years of beng in I could be essentially grandfathered in and the dui wouldn't matter. What's the likelihood of me being able to become a warrant officer pilot with that prior dui conviction? Any thoughts appreciated, and above all honesty. Even if it's telling me I'm a fool to even consider something like that would be available to me. My recruiter can't really give me an answer he doesn't know. Edit because I didn't include a branch—talking about Army
Currently enlisting in army, Completed both asvab, physical and medical waivers have been approved. I’m the final stretch just waiting for the call to go to meps and swear in.
I recently talked to a coast guard recruiter and I’m not gonna lie, I liked what I heard and it caught my eye a lot. I wasn’t planning on switching but to me it feels like the Coast Guard is the way to go.
I feel bad for thinking about switching as my army recruiter helped me out a lot but I feel like the CG route is the way to go.
I have done researched on both branches
I reenlisted in the IRR over a year ago, but I still haven't received my orders. Technically, I am still in the Reserves, but I'm not attending drills. The S1 office is almost entirely unreachable—no one answers calls, there are no callbacks after voicemails, and emails go unanswered. Occasionally, I reach someone when S1 happens to be in the office, but there’s no real progress or updates, and my SGLI debt is piling up.
Recently, out of nowhere, I received an AT order mailed to my home of record by the unit—without prior email or phone communication. I don’t want to attend, as I’m supposed to be in the IRR. What options do I have?
P.S.: The S1 office is my only contact with the unit, as the retention NCO who handled my paperwork has since transferred to a different unit, and the unit is 500 miles away from my home of record.
I joined the Space Force and I got a ELS for fraudulent entry (drug abuse) on my dd214 code JDT/2G after I admitted to past drug use at sensitive skills. My question is how will this affect my career in my civilian life now? Will I be able to get jobs? I dont plan to reenlist but I want to go to college, I dont know what my options are or if Its even an opportunity I have.
Went to MEPS earlier this year, and was Dq'd for past diagnosis of depression. They said I needed a waiver and psych consult. Doctor said it likely wouldn't be an issue, but I still had to go through the waiver process. Submitted all required documents and completed my psych consult. That was a couple months ago at this point, and still waiting on an answer from MEPS as to whether my waiver is approved or not. Has anyone had a similar experience? Can any recruiters weigh in on this? Thanks.
edit: I am enlisting in the national guard
Being an already established adult (28) coming into the army I now have stuff I have to get rid of and downsize. I would be a single soldier so I’d be in the barracks and I’m ok with that. With that being said should I keep my TV or just have my iMac? Also if I do keep the tv is a 50 inch too much given the space of the room and potential roommates?
In the health issues tab on MHS, I have issues listed as active. One of them being a surgery I had with the military a few years ago, still showing as active even though the issues been gone for a fat minute.
Even in my clinical notes it said successful and completed surgery?
What does “active” issues mean, even though I don’t have that issue anymore? Shouldn’t it be in the historical since it’s no longer a thing?
I’m 19M currently getting my AAS in Electronic Technologies and joining the military as active duty after graduating. I wanna work with drones so that once my contract finishes I can go work as a defense contractor. I’ve had some of my friends tell me I should get my bachelors and then join but I don’t know if I want to do that as I just want to join right away and not wait another 2 years. Can anyone tell me which branch can guarantee me the job. Thanks in advance
I (18f) thinking to join reserve coast guard after my freshman year of college. Just to do it over the summer, so I plan on taking my BMI when I’m on my spring break to get the OK to do basic training over the summer. I’ve been thinking about this since late Junior-early senior year of HS
I was wondering if coast guard is the way to go to help me out financially? If not, what is the preferred branch for art students like me? I’m not solely joining just to help me financially but I do want to help my family money wise as well.
Also, I know they don’t really have art jobs. I saw cooking and band on their job list, I was wondering if there was more out there?
Thank you!
Looking to join with this mos just wanted to know what AIT is like, and even after that what is the job actually like. And in Ait do you actually have to use a crane and forklift. And what are some duty stations that you guys have been too? Thank you in advance.
Hello, all:
As a teenager, I was depressed. I had no purpose, couldn't get up and exercise, could barely do school and work, etc. Never attempted or got institutionalized. But after a long time of searching, I was able to find a home in the Episcopal church. Life turned around for me almost at once. I left highschool and got my GED in 8 days; I got myself into college in a matter of weeks following; I applied, interviewed, and was employed for government service; I started going back to the gym; I got a cat. Life is good.
I'm in the process of finishing up my B.A. in Emergency Management Admin, looking to go the officer route in maybe the Reserves until I can finish my master's and maybe my Ph.D. I just got officially off of my Prozac two weeks ago, though I've been hazily taking them for about two months. Other than a knee that hurts, and a therapist I see once a month, I'm mentally and physically sound, and I've worked as a supervisor so I don't plan on being an ass of an officer. Am I good to join the Reserves, say, this summer with "I found Jesus" as my reasoning for fast-tracking the antidipressant wait time, or should I wait out my M.A. and try it again?
Edit: most likely Army reserve as the branch, another branch does Military Intelligence better? Thanks, bot.
Here's a quick background on why I'm asking this question: I took the ASVAB, failed the physical, and failed as well. I did all of this while working with an Air Force recruiter who is still willing to work with me. Still, on the other hand, I'm looking at the Army, and I'm thinking about whether or not I should go with them instead. I haven't spoken with an Army recruiter yet, but I want to be an aircraft mechanic or crew chief.
EDIT: My interests lie in aviation. The reason I want to serve is because of a family member who served. What I want is to be able to go to school. What appeals to me about the Air Force is being able to work on aircraft, the same as the Army, hence why I want to become an aircraft mechanic or crew chief. I want to serve part-time to have time for school and commission as an officer afterward. I prefer a hands-on work environment and don't want to be stuck behind a desk.
Looked online quite a bit, can’t find any good answers. Would appreciate an answer from someone who knows.
Is dialect behavioral therapy disqualifying if I'm trying to get cleared for tic disorder and personality disorder (both of which I have never had but they got pulled up in mhs genesis). I worked with a third party phsyciatrist and took the mmpi test and the results weren't good enough to get a clearance. She wants me to do at least 6 months of dbt therapy before I can retake the mmpi. Is this going to be an issue with enlisting?
I am joining reserves for 3 year. So, I am a green card holder and restricted to few MOS only.Initially, 36B(Finance) was my only choice. I live in New jersey. The closest unit for 36B is in Pennsylvania(1.5 hrs drive from my home). And 92Y is 10/15 mins drive from my home. And, I wanna choose like some easy work/less risk MOS for now.
In civil life,I am from computer science background. So,non of these MOS gonna help me boost my skills in civil life.Once i get my citizenship, I am planning to go active on different MOS(IT or cybersecurity). So, for now which one should i join?? 92Y(Unit supply) or 36B(finance). I really wanna join 36 B but man the distance is putting me in dilemma.
Please provide some suggestions.Thank you!!
Hey yall, I think I been falsely misdiagnosed with hsv1 . Not sure on the implication of that at meps since i got no symptoms. I took two test from separate clinics and 1 came negative and the other positive. But the negative test record is visible and the positive is not being showed in my medical report. They told me by phone. That I was positive which l'm worried since I got a negative test too .
hellooo! i just need some advice and answers, i'll be deleting this post after I get my answers lol. So, I'm 17F, just completed my ASVAB and am going to MEPS in about a week or so. I am by all means NOT seeking to be judged for my lifestyle, but I do vape and smoke mary jane. I am sick at the moment, so haven't smoked mary jane in about 3 days (i am perfectly capable of going cold turkey, i have many times before so that is not a problem), I smoke off a dab pen if that changes anything.
I am just wondering, do they draw blood or do urine testing, and will nicotine change anything for me being able to enlist? I'm sure THC does, which is why I'm more than willing to cold turkey that. I just resumed smoking about 3 months ago after not smoking (mary jane) for about 1.5 years.
Any recommendations? Should I postpone going to MEPS until I'm positive it won't show up in urine? I don't know how long it's detectable in blood either, and I know that blood, urine, saliva, and hair testing is all very different.
ALSO, what all do they look for at MEPS? I'm not really keen on invasive things (like bend over, squat and cough), however I'm sure that's inevitable. Any and all advice is appreciated, along with ways to flush my system!
(RESPECTFUL Disclaimer: I am fully aware these are two very bad habits, and like I previously stated, I do not appreciate judgement for the things I do, I am just seeking advice.)
I wanna buy real estate as soon as possible to make potential rental properties using my VA loan. I heard you have to live in it, but I also you’re also not allowed to live in housing unless you’re married too. Is it still possible to just buy and rent it out while living in the barracks?
We all know what's coming up. This is not the place for current political discussions. This means nothing related to it either.
I’m 13 and I’ve started to become more interested in joining some branch in the military like the marines or the navy. However, I have adhd can I still join in the future? If so what’s the physiological test going to be like and what can I do to change my habits now in order to succeed in the future. (I’m also a female idk if that changes anything)
Hello, I am a 32 year old female. I am going to Army fat camp soon, and just wanted some insight. I am currently at 234 pounds, my recruiter wants me at 230. I guess I just wanted to see if any body has gone through the ARMS program? Did you tape out quickly? What was it like? Any advice? Yes I know I am going in old, but I am chasing my dream and becoming a combat medic. I will be away from my husband and kids for quite a long time. Are there any other parents that have gone through ARMS, were you allowed to get phone calls on Sundays? Any advice is needed and appriciated. Thank you.
As the title said, my recruiter puffed up my scores. I'm heading to basic in a week and can't do a single push-up, pull up, and just barely can pass the other physical requirements for my MOS.
I've been training as much as I can in the meantime, but I still can't do a pushup, pull up, or hit any of the requirements, really. I'm a normal weight, I've just never trained in my life. I ship out in a week. What will happen if I can't do a pushup in BCT?
Edit: I'm army.
I leave for basics to fort Jackson on the 5th I don’t know what I need or cannot bring. Am I allowed to have my AirPods with me ?
Hey, I need a waiver for my heart rate. It was super high ngl cause of my nerves and always have high heart rate. I confirmed it was good when I got home with my Apple Watch and also manually. Any idea on what the process is like for this waiver? Is airforce
I haven’t talked to a recruiter yet or anything but have been researching and preparing myself for possible issues. I have a suicide attempt from around 2019 and was in therapy / on antidepressants for a few months after, but haven’t been on them for around 5 years now. So I’m just curious what that might look like and how likely it is to get waived (looking at going into the army).
