Welcome to Michigan Cycling! This sub is dedicated to sharing and celebrating all aspects of bicycles in the Great Lakes State. No matter what type of riding you enjoy or express yourself through - trail, road, gravel, snow... we want to hear about it!
A space to share all things about riding bicycles in Michigan. I always see a lot of activity from Michigan riders in other subs, and honestly I'd just like to hear more about the riding that you enjoy in the region -MTB, gravel, road , whatever! Ideally we could use this space to one day plan rides, share routes, exchange gear preferences and so on. Who knows, might just be me posting pics of my bike laying down in the middle of dirt roads!

If you steal a car in Michigan valued over $20,000, you are committing a felony that can put you in prison for 10 years. If you are the owner of that car, and you kill a bicyclist in a bike lane with that car, it is a misdemeanor.
Hi All,
Signed up for a couple of the gravel series races for 25’. Question for anybody that’s completed some of these races. Can a 32-33mm tire width make its way through these races below? Or should I be worried with my race selection? All of these would be the ‘Long’ version of the course

Thank you for any insight!
Episode 6 of the Wheelie Good Podcast talks with Jeff Carek, interim executive director of the League of Michigan Cyclists, about navigating the political shift in Lansing, easing frictions between cyclists and law enforcement, and bikepacking to New York City.

Episode 5 of the Wheelie Good Podcast (from the Bicycle Alliance of Washtenaw) is with Dharma Akmon, who is halfway through her first term on the A2 Council and has been a big advocate of cycling since the days when she couldn’t afford a car. We talk about the bike-friendly legislation she has supported and how she hopes to build on it in her second half.

Turning over new leafs in '25 I'm signed up for Melting Mann. I signed up for the 38 miler, though am starting to re-think it a tiny bit. I'm curious just how aggressive Melting Mann is, I can certainly hit 38 miles no problem, but I noticed on the schedule that it starts at 10 and podium stuff is at 1:30 (I'm absolutely not shooting for any competitive finish, I'll be next to last if not last to finish lol). How important is it to get back by the 1:30 time?
Or will I simply be faster than I think...I guess that's only like 11mph average...but I'm assuming the course will be tough...maybe I'm just overthinking it all! I'll take all training advice for my first official gravel event!
Hello all, I just picked up my first fat bike and it needs tires. Would like to hear what your running and what you recommend.
This is a second bike that I will be riding through winter and the spring freeze/thaw cycle.
I primarily ride: Proud lake, Island lake, Mayburry and Tree farm
Bike had a 26x4.8 when I bought it
Currently considering Terrene Wazia Surly Bud/ Lou 45nrth dunder/flowbeast Schwalbe Jumbo Jim's
Is a 4.8" tire need for the little snow that we see? Should I be looking at studded or studless?
From a warmer state but what are the guidelines/rules for riding during winter/snow? I'm in SE MI so not dealing with deep snow... yet.
Are fatbikes required? Or can you get by with skinnier 2.4-2.5" tires?
Are there any other setup tips because of the cold temperature? I hear DOT brakes work better when the weather is below freezing, Do I need any other adjustments to my suspension?
How do you stay warm enough? Any suggested gear?
What winter riding lessons do you wish you learned earlier?
Hi all! I'm looking for advice on staying safe on the roads in winter. I'm really hoping to bike frequently during the winter months but yesterday had a bad fall when my hybrid bike hit a patch of ice. The first six miles were fine, and I felt confident until the fall, which really shocked me. Felt like it came out of nowhere. I have a mountain bike with thicker tires. Should I try that, get a fat tire bike, or just skip winter cycling altogether (hoping to avoid this option if I can). Thanks in advance for any tips!!

Hey guys - I'm up from Georgia for the holidays and brought my gravel bike with me. Any recommendations for gravel routes starting in western Wayne County? Ideally 20-35 miles.
I'm planning to ride this out of Ann Arbor tomorrow based on searching this sub but would love to find something starting closer to Plymouth. (I'm staying in Livonia)
Any help is appreciated!
Have any of you riders ever gotten a sports massage?
For a while now I feel like my calves in particular have felt a little fatigued. Doesn’t seem to matter if I take a few days off the bike or not, just kind of generally feel a bit tired. I think it’s from all the standing I do at work, coupled with a pretty consistent riding schedule.
An acquaintance that runs a lot suggested I look into a sports massage because those can focus on the problem area.
I’ve been doing some reading and it seems that a lot of the “results” from it may all be in your head?
So, has anyone used massage therapy for riding? If so, did it help with whatever issue you were having?
Thanks.
