Mexico City day travel help

Hi all, I am having a 9 hr layover next month on Benito Juarez airport. I have never travelled to any South American countries. I will have a carryon bag with me. Can someone please help ?Things I would like some help are below

  • transportation (any uber/ swift like apps? Or should I use local taxis?)

  • where can I safely keep my carryon bag so that I don’t want to carry that around?

  • language: I don’t know Spanish and I am an international student in US. How difficult to travel? Is google translate enough to travel?

-Cash/card: I have a travel credit card but will I be charged extra? Do I need to get cash for expenses in Mexico

  • Any must see place and restaurants I can visit during this small window?

If anyone can give some insight, much appreciated 😊

Mexico - Yucatan - Question around my Plans for Honeymoon Itinerary

Hi everyone, i am going to get married in Vegas in November and am coming to Mexico afterwards for my Honeymoon.

We will be flying into Cancun and my future wife and i are both not the historical and sightseeing people and rather like to chill and relax. We both LOVE eating though.

I am trying to get a good mix of food, culture and chilling at the beach without going to any of the typical american all inclusive places.

We also don't want to end up travelling half of the time therefore our tour will be quite "small"

Plan is following:

Land in Cancun 28.11 in the morning and take an ADO to Valladolid

28.11-02.12 - Valladolid

02.12-06.12 - Merida

05.12 - 13.12 - Holbox -> back to Cancun on the last day to fly out

My question is:

  • Am i missing something crucial?
  • Is there something you would say is a MUST to go to in that region?
  • What would you do different?
  • Overall recommendations and tips are also very welcome!!

I am thankful for anyone giving me feedback on this one as i am quite unsure and have nothing booked yet.

Pasteurized and safe popular milk brands

Hi all,

We’re visiting Mexico for vacation for the first time (Tulum and Cancun). We have a 2 year old baby and we would need to buy milk for her since she does drink a lot of milk.

Can anyone suggest what the popular safe pasteurized milk brands in Mexico are? We won’t have a way to boil it since the hotel room doesn’t have a stove. So just want to make sure we get something similar to what we have in the US where we can consume it straight out of the Tetra Pak.

Please suggest the popular and safe pasteurized milk brands in Mexico that we can give to our baby directly without having to boil.

30th bday trip to Cabo

Going to Cabo for my 30th & my resort choice are Riu Palace Baja California or Breathless Cabo. I really want a party vibe, all inclusive of course. Would like a resort that has decent food, good drinks, immaculate ambiance & entertainment. I love anything water activity related and anything adventurous i.e zip lining, atv, camel rides, etc etc.

Which resort would you recommend? Also wouldn’t mind excursion recommendations also!

Dental Tourism in Playa del Carmen, Mexico: Experience, Costs, and Tips

Hey everyone! I wanted to share my recent experience with dental tourism in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, since it seems to be growing in popularity. If you’re thinking about getting some dental work done while enjoying the beautiful Caribbean beaches, here are some details that might interest you.

Why Playa del Carmen?

Playa del Carmen is not only a tropical paradise, but it’s also becoming a hotspot for medical and dental tourism. Many highly trained professionals offer top-quality treatments at a fraction of the cost compared to the U.S. or Canada. Most clinics are equipped with state-of-the-art technology, and many of the staff speak English, which makes the entire process a lot easier.

Types of Treatments Available

You can find a wide range of services, from basic cleanings to more complex procedures like:

  • Dental implants
  • Crowns and bridges
  • Porcelain veneers
  • Teeth whitening
  • Orthodontics (braces or Invisalign)

Costs

One of the main reasons people choose dental tourism in Mexico is the cost savings. On average, you can expect to pay about 50-70% less for most procedures compared to prices in North America. For example, a dental implant in the U.S. could cost around $3,000, while in Playa del Carmen it might be closer to $1,000-$1,500.

Quality of Care

Despite the lower costs, the quality of care is generally excellent. Many dentists here have been trained abroad and adhere to international standards of hygiene and professionalism. It's a good idea to do some research before selecting a clinic, reading reviews, and ensuring that the clinic is accredited by organizations like the American Dental Association (ADA).

Tips for a Successful Trip

  • Research ahead of time: Check reviews, credentials, and certifications of the clinic.
  • Book consultations in advance: Some procedures require more than one visit.
  • Plan for recovery time: If you're getting major work done, like implants or extractions, leave some time for recovery before hitting the beach.
  • Combine it with a vacation: Playa del Carmen is an amazing spot to unwind with stunning beaches, cenotes, and Mayan ruins nearby.

Has anyone else here had experience with dental tourism in Playa del Carmen? I'd love to hear your stories or any tips you might have!

Immersion Program Suggestions

My wife and I, both retired, would like to identify a Spanish language immersion program in Mexico. My wife is a solid intermediate speaker, and I am a beginner. We would prefer a something like a family stay, or a residence where we can have a full experience. Ideally we want to be in a location with a temperate climate. For example, Mexico City, Puebla or Oaxaca. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. My wife has attended Latin American immersion programs in the past. I only have rudiments of spanish learned in college years ago.

Zika rates Cancun 2024?

Does anyone know current threat/cases of Zika in Cancun? Returned form a trip recently to find out out I’m 5 weeks pregnant. I did get bitten at a cenote and now worried I may have contracted Zika.

Also in 2 minds about getting tested as apparently yellow fever vaccination can give false positives.

Tulum - really, what’s the vibe?

Hello, I’m visiting Tulum during Christmas with my parents (65/70) and my siblings (30ish). We’ve never been to the Yucatan region before but like chilled, more authentic experiences when it comes to holidays. My parents want a nice beach experience mixed with nature.

Tulum seems really developed but with beautiful beaches so we have some doubts - but wanted to ask if people had first hand experience being there, how it felt, was it chilled? Completely crowded? Overly gentrified? Or bliss? We’re planning on staying in an Airbnb in town. Does it feel safe? We’re planning on being there for about 5 days

.If you have more suited recommendations of beach towns or think Tulum is perfect for our kind of holiday - please share!! Thanks in advance 💕

¡Gracias!

Iluma Oxxo

In Mexico, Iluma is now up for grabs, and it comes with a price tag much cheaper than in numerous other countries. Plus, save yourself the hassle of carrying your terea – you'll find it readily available at every OXXO.

How much money should I bring for a week in Mexico?

Hi! I know similar questions have been asked many times, but I didn't get the answers to my questions on those posts...

I am spending a week with my girlfriend in Playa del Carmen at a resort and I am unsure how much money to bring. Food and lodging is already covered, but we are planning on doing excursions and exploring around town.

I was thinking of brining about $150USD and 2500MXN each (total of 300USD and 5000MXN). Is that enough or is it too much? We were planning on visiting Chichen Itza and some cenotes. I am not planning on buying things like t shirts or souvenirs...

Our travel agent has suggested to bring only USD, but after reading all the other posts this is obviously bad advice.

Thanks in advance !

Beach all inclusive from Mexico City

My wife and I are planning to visit a college friend in Mexico City in late August/early September. We'd like to go on from there to a Beach resort for a few days before returning home. We usually fly Delta for the long flights. Any suggestions on where to go and who to travel with from Mexico City?

What sets Guadalajara, Mexico apart, and is it worth it?

I live in Europe. I have a Mexican friend, from Guadalajara. He tells me that 'everyone' (both Mexicans and foreigners) likes Guadalajara, except him. I asked him why, and he replied:

"I think there are other parts of Mexico that are more colorful and have a stronger, more interesting and friendly character than my city, so I don't understand where the obsession with my city comes from. If I wanted to experience a more interesting and authentic version of Mexico, I would go through Oaxaca, for example."

What is he referring to? Keep in mind that I have never been to Mexico and I do not know that country, so please be patient and explain to me step by step. Also, keep in mind he has some Oaxacan ancestry so I suspect he may be biased, but I am unsure about that.

vape to mexico?

i’m traveling from NYC to Cancún Mexico in a day. I found out vapes are illegal an hour ago! I heard to bring it in a carry on bag in a toiletry bag but it’s a disposable vape and it’s in its original packaging unopened but because of that u can clearly tell it’s a vape, should i keep it like that and just hide it under makeup brushes, phone chargers, and tampons? should i even bring it? this is my first time flying out of the country in years so i kinda forget how things go with an airport. will the mexican airport check my carry on bag again after i get to cancún? some people said to put the vape in your pocket once u land but i don’t see how that works if you walk through a metal detector? anyone who has brought one please give advice! i’m going to an all inclusive resort so i know i’ll be fine once i’m there but i do not want to get fined at the airport. how do i know if they wanna check my bag some people are saying “red light” but red light on what and when? and i do not plan on bringing it back to the US after my trip, im just worried to bring it to México. and i hate cigarettes, how ironic.

Vapes and Tips

I travel to Mexico tomorrow, I’m english and have never visited any of the americas let alone Mexico. I have two questions:

  1. What would happen if I brought my vape with me? I’ve seen a lot of conflicting info online and I’m a bit confused really.

  2. What is the standard practice for tipping in Mexico? We don’t tend to tip here in the UK so I want to make sure I tip properly when necessary.

Thanks :)

What is the optional “Ida” charge for? This is on the ADO bus app. Additionally, what’s your experience with ADO?
