“I know. Somehow, I’ve always known.”
Long shot here, first Reddit post ever. I think I’ve found the appropriate group.
I grew up at Shea. Some of my best memories of all of baseball were made there from home runs to heartbreak to everything in between.
I was angry when Citi field was built; nothing could top the aura of Shea. The old subway/section color races, the Keyspan sign, the dented oldschool scoreboard from Mo Vaughn’s homerun…
But we are now 15 years into Citi field, and I can’t help but say that I live for the day it is called something else. We deserve better than a bank!
Even though I grew up at Shea, undoubtedly, I have fallen in love with Citi field, too.
We can all agree that Gary Cohen is a legend. I firmly grasp every game he calls in the 2020s, and although he isn’t old enough quite yet for retirement, that day is approaching, eventually. And to state the obvious, on top of that, our new owner’s legacy has just started.
As we continue into this offseason, I hope the Steve makes the moves necessary to rename our home Cohen Field for all of eternity, and I look forward to seeing you all at the Gary, Keith and Ron club booth.
Let’s go Mets!
The Mets have been to the playoffs twice in the past three years.
Considering David Stearns' team-building acumen, Steve Cohen's money, and the current format, the Mets should be regular playoff participants.
However, as this year has shown us, winning a World Series is very difficult.
The Yankees have made the playoffs 11 times since 2010. Yet, only one WS trip and no rings.
How would you feel, if ten years from now, the Mets have won 8 division titles, but not a single ring?
Edit: Wrong year
If the Mets skipped signing Soto, who(multiple) could they sign with 600million or trade that would make them even stronger than having Soto and still have a cohesive team?
I’m feel like if everything works out how we all want, this would be an amazin line up. Let’s see what everyone else has.

The Mets gave me and my young son so much joy this year. Looking forward to the off season to see if Sterns can elevate us to the Dodgers level. One thing that I took for granted was just how lucky we as Met fans are to have Howie, Gary, Ronnie and Kieth broadcasting our games. The national broadcasters though out this playoff run were horrible. John Smoltz was insufferable and never shuts up. On one occasion i had the Yankee Dodger game on the radio and had to listen to Susan and John Sterling, talk about a train wreak! John basically sleepwalks through a broadcast until he gets a chance at a homerun call then proceeds to say some of the most idiotic catchphrases and Susan is such a homer that I could hear her audibly sighing and fretting anytime someone from the opposition got on base. Our guys are insightful, entertaining and in spite of all of them being Met fans, call the games down the middle. The way Howie Rose put the season in perspective during the final inning of our season was a masterclass in broadcasting.
When I was a kid growing up in the 2000's, I thought that all Yankee fans were sore winners who lectured nonstop about their 27 World Series and those unoriginal "my entire team sucks" rants. Once I reached the drinking age and began bar hopping though, I've begun to notice two distinct types of Yankee fans.
Yankee fan #1 is a baby boomer, is likely Italian, and 7 out of 10 times has family ties to the Bronx, if not Brooklyn. They're either blue collar themselves, or their parents were. I encounter this type of Yankee fan at blue collar sports bars, and on NJ Transit. They root for the Mets when not playing the Yankees, and I can say in most instances, they don't have to start every other sentence with "27 World Series." These guys are probably loyal fans for 3-4 generations through good times and bad. They might even be more like Met fans in spirit but for the accident of which borough or household they were born in.
Yankee fan #2 is a middle to upper-middle class millennial who grew up with the dynasty of the late 90's to early 2000's. Usually these guys can be found anywhere in the suburbs of CT, NJ, and the Hudson Valley. When I was younger, you couldn't wear a Mets hat in front of these guys or bring up you were a Mets fan without them bringing up their 27 World Series, A-Rod, Derek Jeter, and 2000 in some combination. I have found this cohort of Yankee fans in general to lack the humility/mutual respect that the blue collar boomer fans have more of.
In most sports I try to pull for the New York team, but I just couldn't root for the Yankees in good conscience. I felt bad since I knew many of the boomer Yankee fans at the bars were cheering alongside us in the NLDS + NLCS, but I just couldn't return the favor in the World Series. I didn't root against the Yankees so much as I was rooting against their 90's/2000's fans. I didn't think 15 years without a title was enough to instill humility in that generation of fandom, and the behavior of Austin Capobianco only confirmed my suspicions.
To the Yankee fans who get mad when I as a Met fan root against you but not the other way around: it's not you, it's your fellow fans.
Anyone know what’s left at the team store with the 50% off sale? I was gunna drive to the stadium tomorrow but I’m from staten island so I didn’t wanna make the drive if there was nothing left.
