Age

My son is 5 and asking santa for a metal detector for Christmas. Is this too young for one? Also if it isn’t can you recommend one to me? I live in Canada if that matters.

How old is this.

Found this the other day. Can any one confirm its age? I believe it's from the 50's or 60's. Thanks!

can i find a ring 2 years after it's been lost?

i lost a ring two years ago in a pile of dry leaves by a building, so i know the location overall, but i dont have any hope for finding it anymore. i assume by now it'd be deep underground and it's a small thin ring so would metal detectors even pick up on it? i'm very desperate to find it and it's been on my mind ever since then. please if you have any advice or tips i'd love to hear

Help me decide on a new machine

Posted earlier this week about my trusty 15 year old Bounty Hunter finally calling it quits. I’m torn between the vanquish 540 and the X-Terra Elite. I know the X is fully waterproof vs the vanquish’s just the coil, but is there any other discernible difference that would make the X better? Or is there another comparably priced machine from Nokta or others? BTW, I wouldn’t really be using the fully submersible function as I live in the PNW and wouldn’t be going submerged in any water.

Newbie question: need guidance on finding a small piece of silver jewerlry or my wife will kill me...

Short version - lost a small silver cross in my backyard. HUGE sentimental value to my wife. I am willing to spend money on equipment but have literally no idea what tool would work best. I think the area to search is relatively small (maybe a hundred square feet). I found the chain (it had broken). So I'm assuming the cross is nearby.

Would a pinpointer be my best bet? Or a detector? Both?

Thank you so much for any suggestions.

Repair vs make new purchase question

My vanquish 540 (approx 1yo) was recently swamped with saltwater and obviously is now sleeping with the fishes.

Kellyco says they can repair it for an approx $215…potentially more if speakers/keypads issues exist.

I purchased it new for $379.

Any input on which option you’d suggest is greatly appreciated!

Thanks all

Permissions success rate UK

I've very much interested in getting involved with this hobby (Yes I've just finished bingeing The Detectorists and it very quickly jumped into my top favourite TV shows ever) and its been quite difficult using the internet to locate the owners of certain fields so its going to just have to be a case of knocking on some doors. I've been looking at some local farms and just wondered what has been your success rate when asking for farmers permissions? Are they generally okay with it or do the majority tend to deny you? I'm going to start knocking on doors at the weekend. I want permissions before i start buying gear for obvious reasons. Thanks all.

which is better for beach detecting - Minelab Equinox 600, 700, 800 or 900?

I have an Excalibur II, but would like to have better control of the discrimination and elimination of tent stakes , pull tabs and beer caps. UGH

Mantecore is also on the list of possibles.

I figure the higher the model number on the equinox, the better - right?

Help. Detecting in snow.

Doesn’t snow much where I am. Need to find a 12”x 12” metal box buried in 24” deep snow. Would my Moreland vanquish 540 find it with a solid signal. Not packed snow; just normal, if that’s a thing.

Any good New Jersey Areas?

Recently been metal detecting at the Manasquan Reservoir due to its low water levels, any new jersey metal detectors here know any other good spots? (I know Monmouth Battlefield is off limits)
