Since childhood I loved heavy music and a few years ago I really got into metal. Metal became my favourite genre, 90% of music I write is metal and I loved exploring different bands and genres. Like half a year ago I tried to get into death metal, because I liked deathcore and thought they would be similar. I started from Cannibal Corpse, listened to 3 of their albums and I couldn't say I really liked them, but there were a lot of elements I liked, so I tried listening to other bands and other types of DM and after some time I couldn't listen to any music at all. Now the only things I can listen to are alt rock and RHCP(especially) and none of my favourite metal bands hit the same anymore. Did anyone have similar problem? If so, did you regain your love for metal or just started digging other genres?
Hello everyone, I want to ask doesn’t anyone have videos of like blogs I can read to get better with growls. I get this mid kind of growl like Whitechapel where you can understand but after awhile it hurts. How can I get better at this and does anyone know the technical term for that kind of growl. It isn’t low but it isn’t like high it’s like mid way. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm looking for black or death metal albums that have predominantly dual guitar harmony riffs. That is, when both guitars play lead parts at the same time. And by predominantly, I mean they have to constitute the majority of the music, not just little random sections. Please, please, must have these:
• a more trad metal feel, not lots of tremolo, no dissonance, and no groovy riffs.
• a sharper guitar note, nothing too bassy or chunky.
• no rhythm guitar playing under the melodies. Both guitars have to be playing a lead part simultaneously. This is non negotiable, if it has chords under the melodies, I don't want to hear it.
• minimal or no blast beats at all. I know this is a bit more beyond the guitar work, but it's also really important.
• I guess this should go without saying, but the music has to be melodic.
Some examples of what I'm looking for:
Opeth - Orchid
Ophthalamia - A Journey in Darkness
Katatonia - Dance of December Souls
In Flames - Lunar Strain
Garden of Shadows - Oracle Moon
Dreichemere - Despair the Withered Shadows
Autumn Requiem - As I Beheld the Blazing Glory of the Rising Dawn
Fall of the Leafe - Storm of the Autumnfall
Obsequiae - Suspended in the Brume of Eos
Orphaned Land - El Norra Alila
I know this is super specific and it's likely there isn't much else like what I'm looking for, so thanks in advance!
Getting really into Onslaught, Midnight, Behemoth, and Nunslaughter.
Name me some bands like them...
Looking for black thrash or thrash tinged
Not metal core breakdown stuff
Thinking about buying my first metal axe, but I have a broken pinky on my fretting hand that never got fixed. I’ve played acoustic for a while and haven’t had too much of a problem but haven’t played too many chords that require my pinky. When I do I can make the chord sound but it doesn’t ring right. Would this be even more difficult playing metal?

Thoughts on my taste in metal?
I’m getting into Metal music and I’ve stumbled across this band that I’m enjoying. What is everyone’s thoughts on them? Also what type of metal are they?
For around $150. Used is fine. Any clues?
I've only found the Marshall MG15 series so far. I'm going to want to get a ditto loop pedal and do clean rhythm and dirty leads. I don't know anything about equipment.
I'm an aspiring vocalist/songwriter and haven't been able to find much useful information in regards to what kind of guitar I should be looking for. I play a lot of music in Drop C on a Schecter C1+ 6-string and am very new to recording music so this could be a multifaceted issue. After tracking guitar on a verse - for example - I battle tonally standing out from the guitar.
My consideration is to purchase either a baritone 6-string or an 8 string guitar.
Am I off my rocker? Either way, I would greatly appreciate some guidance. If you need more context or information, let me know and I'll answer as best I can.
Hi, everyone! I made this post on another metal subreddit but this one might be more fitting. I’m writing a comic book and my main character is a metalhead with college dreams of becoming a heavy metal drummer.
For people really into the genre - what sort of bands would make sense for this character to be obsessed with/take inspiration from? I’ll try to give them all a listen and see if it fits his vibe.

Hi, I'm hoping to find some sort of chart, image, link or whatever that can help translate acoustic chord(s) into power chords or other "few-strings-chords" used in metal and/or vice-versa. I've been a hobby guitarist for many years, and think this could help me start making stuff on my own. Bonus of anyone has charts or links that show which chords on acoustic guitar turn into when you downtune the guitar.
Thanks in advance!
Hi guys! I would like to share with you my band's new single. It's kinda a blackened deathcore vibe haha. For fans of: Lorna Shore, Chelsea Grin, Whitechapel
A friend was telling me he thinks all things are basically hard rock. I'll list some songs and without looking them up just classify them into a genre where I can point and tell him this is what I like: Spiritbox - Cellar Door / Motionless in White - Eternally Yours / Avatar - Colossus / Bad Omens - Dethrone / Bad Omens - Artificial Suicide
Additionally, he said how can you distinguish metal from hard rock and I said I don't really know i feel like you can just hear it and tell it's not hard rock. He said I like death metal and I said I don't know what death metal is i like heavy metal and I think the genre I like is called metalcore. But I don't even know. Can someone explain this to me.
i really like discovering new metal subgenres, the most recent one was magick metal and it was really cool what are some genres/subgenres or even microgenres that you love and are very unknown
