[Character Submission] Liana Deniaud

Name: Liana Ryanne Deniaud

Age: 25, Riel

Race: Human

Magic: None, unless you count card tricks

Childhood: Liana was the third child in the Deniaud family, the eldest, Gregory, seventeen years her senior was already training to be a chevalier by the time she was born, while the second, Elaine, ten years older, was a circle mage. Liana was the first child from Lord Deniaud’s second marriage, his first wife dying six years before Liana’s birth.

Liana was much closer to her mother, Victoria, than her father, who she rarely saw. Victoria bought a second child into the world two years later, Alec, and Liana instantly acted as his big sister and protector. The pair had ambitions of being chevaliers and Lord Deniaud approved, giving the pair of them an education in both Orlesian history and military skills.

Their hopes were dashed in 9:24 Dragon when a bout of the 100-Year Flu ran through the Dales, leaving Liana with a weak chest and vision problems and Alec with a weak chest and stunted growth. The pair still continued their education and when 16 both joined the Riel guard.

History: In the lead up to the War of the Lions, Liana and Alec were recruited by Lord Desrochiers, a close family friend who was on the side of Grand Duke Gaspard. Both joined Gaspard’s army, Liana as a foot soldier and Alec as a scout. After a year of men fighting and dying, including in the Battle of Halamshiral, Liana rose to the rank of Corporal, while Alec became a lead scout.

Recent events and current whereabouts: After the Battle of Riel, which Liana participated in, Liana had given thought to abandoning the army. Neither of the leaders truly cared for their armies, other nobles, or the commoners, all they cared about was a stupid crown. When the Breach opened, providing a distraction, Liana, Alec and the majority of their company ran.

Over the course of two weeks, soldiers began to abandon the company, most joining the Freemen of the Dales, while others left to go home. Liana and Alec had no home and were wanted for desertion, so were the last two remaining. Currently they are a few days ride south from Val Foret.

Physical Description: [Liana] (http://imgur.com/PmkQIXt) is approximately 5’6”, with a muscular build and olive complexion. She has thick curly black hair which reaches past her shoulders, which she usually keeps in a plait or top knot, with the remains of her fringe plaited like a crown (similar to her mother’s hair). Her eyes are green and she wears a pair of round glasses to read. Her face has two main distinguishing features, a beauty spot above her lip and a large scar cutting across her right cheek. She wears the remains of her armour, a green shirt with heavy steel armor on top, brown leather gloves and boots, and a large green cloak.

Personality: Liana is introverted and reclusive, but she is a good leader and she cares deeply for her men. She appears gruff and solemn in interactions and is nearly always on guard. If you gain her trust and loyalty, you will have it for life. She is softer with children than others. She is still trying to work her way out of ‘noble’ views of the world, particularly views of other races and commoners.

Skills: Liana is a good fighter, she has some skills with a two-handed sword and crossbow, but she is especially skilled with a sword and shield. She has no magic and is not very charismatic. While her sight is impaired, her hearing is excellent. She’s a good leader and is good at making battle plans.

Why Join the Order: Liana and Alec are currently wanted for desertion. The Order represents a chance for security and money.

[Character Submission]: Frederick Llewellyn II "Rickard" Konigsmann

Age: 47, Born 8:94 Blessed Age in Tantervale.

Race: Human, Free Marcher of Tantervale

Magic: None

Childhood: The son of Helena Baasch and Frederick Llewellyn I Konigsmann, Frederick was known and raised as the heir to the Konigsmann family. Like with all noble families in Tantervale, Frederick was taught in the ways of nobles, whether it be proper eating etiquette, or the proper dancing. His family wanted to ingrain the sense of wealth and power into Frederick at an early age as they had seen from their own families. He was educated, learned the Andrastian Cult text and chants, and groomed for his life as a noble, and the head of the family. Shortly before turning ten, Rickard had gained a little sister. His sister, Clara soon became a favourite of everyone in the family.

That changed however, when his father realized that his son needed to learn the art of fighting. At the age of ten, his father hired a swordsmaster to train Rickard. Day in and day out, Frederick trained and trained, often returning to his room sore and bruised. But he was learning, perhaps too much so. As soon, he would forget his noble teachings, or often skip the lessons. He kept himself educated on how to read and write though.

History: From the age of fourteen to sixteen, his relationship with his father began to strain. Often, the two were seen arguing with each other over what his father wanted for Frederick, and what Frederick wanted for himself. His mother would often take Frederick’s side, often being heard as saying “Let the boy do what he wants.” Frederick grew close with his trainer, looking up to him as a father figure, more so than his own father. At the age of seventeen, Frederick was to wed a young maiden from another family to strengthen his own family's power. The marriage was not to happen till Frederick was nineteen, but he had already resented the idea. The young maiden did not fall in love with Frederick, and the two would often be seen forcing to show a falsified love for each other. During a meeting between the two families, Frederick declared he would never love her, nor would he marry her. This shattered the marriage alliance and angered his father. The following day, his father told Frederick he had a day to leave the city of Tantervale. His younger sister Clara would now become the heir to the family, and his father wanted his son gone from their lives. Frederick would turn to his swordsmaster, and the two arranged for a way for Frederick to leave Tantervale heading south through Kirkwall and taking a boat to Ferelden. The journey was long, but soon Frederick would reach Ferelden, alive and well.

Shortly after entering Ferelden, Frederick would cast away his family's name and went by a new name: Rickard. It was here in Ferelden that Rickard would become a mercenary, doing jobs for many different people. He began to hone his skills with a sword (training with his trainer until his trainer disappeared one day), which at the time was a sword and shield. In 9:22 Dragon, Rickard had decided to start his own mercenary group. He searched throughout Ferelden, finding a group of four people whom he began to view as close friends and even family. It wasn’t until 9:23 Dragon that he would find Cadwgan O’Hara and officially start the mercenary group. During the time with the mercenary group, growing quite large. And eventually, Rickard fell in love with a merchant girl, Talia. In 9:26 Dragon, the two got married, and she had begun to live with Rickard at the abandoned fort his mercenary group had operated. Tensions within the group began to increase due to taking on so many different people, and the organization self-destructed in 9:29 Dragon. His wife was killed in the infighting and fire. Rickard, who had seen her die and failed to protect her, was dragged away from the fiery fort by Cadwgan. Wracked with grief, Rickard travelled aimlessly for a time. Shortly after the Fifth Blight, Rickard would enrage many underworld people while he was looking for information on the killer of his wife. During this, Rickard was forced to fake his death with Cadwgan’s help.

From here, Rickard disguised himself as The Red Stripe, a mercenary who didn’t ask questions and took on any job. His first year was bad, as many of his clients would back stab him or betray him. Wanting to get back at them, and not to seem weak, he worked for their rivals, making a name for himself. Shortly after, he would start working for his backstabbing clients, earning their trust and then killing them at their weakest. One client in particular, the noble Beaumonts family, fleeing the burning mansion that Rickard had set on fire. His quest of vengeance against those who wronged him ended with the destruction of the family. Once it was finished, Rickard became a hidden confidant for Cadwgan while he ran Fallen Company.

Recent Events and Current Whereabouts: Cadwgan brought Rickard to the Crown initially to get back at Ranmarque. However, the Crows got to Cadwgan first, and Rickard staged a rescue mission to save Cadwgan. Once that was executed, he watched over Cadwgan heal with a mage he had found: Alessia. He is currently at the Crown, quietly mourning over Cadwgan’s death.

Appearance: Standing at 1.9m out of armor, Rickard has a rather athletic build. While strong, he balances it with speed, not going for the overtly crazy strength that his ‘brother’ Cadwgan had. His skin, while once decently tanned has become rather pale. His age has begun to show around his eyes, noticeable wrinkles and a sense of tired. His gray eyes also give him an air of experience. While he keeps himself clean shaven, he has a five o’clock shadow that grows into a full beard for the winter months. His nose is pointed, and his eyes are somewhat small looking. His overall face is somewhat soft, yet finely aged. Rickard keeps his hair short, often styled to look somewhat fancy, an old habit that hasn’t been broken yet. His hair was black, but has begun to have a more salt and pepper look to it.

Personality: Driven, caring, intelligent, and not one to be easily angered (though one to seek vengeance when wronged severely), Rickard is more often than not calm. While he doesn’t outwardly seem cold, he is neither warm. Mentions of his deceased wife will sometimes put him into spells of depression, but otherwise he constantly remembers her. He has vowed never to love another again, no matter what. Rickard is honourable in combat, with years of experience giving him a still water calmness to him. Some view Rickard as a father figure.

Skills: Rickard has reached mastery levels of using a single sword in combat. He is still training himself to use dual swords as well as a his single sword, but it is not quite at that level. Years of experience has allowed him to refine his fighting style, so much so that he now appears to ‘dance’ with and around his opponents. He has a small amount of experience of playing ‘The Game’ via home, though at home it was different. That being said, a knee injury forces him on most days to walk with a cane, being unable to take part in any sort of combat without causing large amounts of pain. As well, his age has slowed him down a bit, and he does not have his youthful energy that he once had.

Why join The Order?: He joins The Order to replace Cadwgan O’Hara as the Master-At-Arms, and to straighten the place out.

Family: Frederick Llewellyn Konigsmann (Father), Helena (Baasch) Konigsmann (Mother), Clara Konigsmann (Younger sister), all alive.

Non-Canon COT stories/spoofs

What we have here, as per the idea of a couple users, is an non-canon stories/spoofs/skits that current writers can write in the google doc that will be provided to those who want in.

That being said, this doesn't mean that anyone can have this link. Only the Moderators are able to give this link out. Anyone caught doing so will result in this non-canon stories being shut down.

Now you're probably thinking, "Great! I can finally have a steamy romance between Cadwgan and Ranmarque!" Hehehe.... Not quite. Writers are to ask other writers permission to use their characters for their non-canon story/idea. If we catch/hear of anyone using another writers character without consent, we will shut down the non-canon stories.

Beyond the usual rules of playing nice, don't cause shit or you will be banned (unless it's one of the aforementioned previous two rules, then you're just ruining it for everyone.)

Have fun!

**IMPORTANT** Alright, let's talk about the Inquisition.

So the breach is rapidly approaching and with the breach comes out favorite extranational, ass kicking army of our (stupid) Human Inquistor. Given the fact that it will be the power in thedas for the next two years, the other mods and myself (Mostly Clones. The brains behind levis brawn and my...something) would like to gauge the Inquisitions effect on your characters individual plot.

So if you've read this, please comment. The more in depth the better, because some people (me) have one brain cell and it's working over time.

Cheers-

[C] Introducing a collab tag

The mods have decided that implementing a tag to distinguish open comment collabs would make things quite a bit easier for the writers on the sub. So, from now on, if you want to make sure that everyone knows your post is open for anyone to collab on then you put " [C] " before your title.

Don't use this if you have already planned a collab with certain characters, this is only for open collabs that anyone could join in on.

That is all, thanks for the time-

The Encloypedia Nonplayercharactera

This is, to put it bluntly, the post for NPC's in the role play. Attached will be profiles, as well as players to contact about use of the NPC's.

This does not mean you cannot create your own. Please do, and post them here. NPC's are a great way to tie our stories together and make things more fun and complex.

If you want to use an NPC you MUST contact their owner. Special exceptions will be made if the orinal owner is no longer active in which case you should ask the mods. (We will probably say yes, we don't bite...much.)

If you write an NPC into your story and want to write a post here, do it! It doesn't have to be super comprehensive if you know you want the character to reappear but you don't know to what capacity. Just give us a very brief background and Appearance (unless you want to write more, which is fine.)

Anyway. I'll shut up, here are the NPC's.

Name: Briella

Age: 7, Val Foret

Race: Human

Magic: Yes, natural force mage, with talent for entropy, primal and spirit magic

First Appearance: Whore's Glory by Ranmarque Childhood: Briella’s mother Jasmine was incredibly poor, growing up on the streets and became a prostitute at the age of 14 for food and board. Briella is the daughter of one of her clients, she does not know who-but has some suspicions. Briella grew up in the brothel, with some other children, the other prostitutes and the brothel madam. The madam was quite scary, yelling at the women for various “crimes”. Briella used to hide under her mother’s bed at this time. Briella has never fully understood what her mother did for a job, and has never experienced life outside the brothel. Being a “whore’s daughter” can bring trouble for the poor child. One day, the brothel madam, Izabelle, came into the room to scold her mother over an unhappy client. The madam began to strike Briella’s mother and Briella, scared out of her wits, sent a chest flying into her torso, killing the madam instantly. This lead to Briella being conscripted into the Order, where Ranmarque hopes she can hone her skills under the tuition of the mages there.

Physical Description: Briella has piercing blue eyes, red lips and pale skin. Her hair is dark brown, almost black, and curly, reaching to her waist. Her face is quite oval, but her chin is slightly pointed. She’s an average height and weight for a 7 year old, a product of being fed quite well by the brothel chefs.

Personality/Skills: Briella is quite quiet and reserved, yet fascinated with the world around her. It takes her a while to open up to anyone-especially adults, but when she does she asks a lot of questions. She is hesitant to learn more about her magic and feels terrible about what she has done to the brothel madam. When she panics-which is often, she accidentally uses her powers, causing a lot of accidents.

Name: Sinead

Age: 23, Val Foret

Race: Elven

Magic: None whatsoever, if you don’t count card tricks

First Appearance: Trials [Part 2] by Natalia Ma'Den

History: Sinead’s parents died in the Influenza outbreak of 9:22 Dragon, when she was 5 years old. Because of this she grew up in the Orphanage with her brother Connor. It was noted when she was 13 that she was really good with children and the Chantry decided to keep her on as a nurse, with a small stipend. She’s proud of her job, even if she gets annoyed at the children/work load sometimes. Physical Description: Sinead has bright red hair, reaching almost to her elbows. She generally wears it in a plait or top knot to keep it out of her face while working. She has bright green eyes and pale skin. Her chin is pointed and she has a small beauty spot just above her lip. She’s slim and short, an average Elven height.

Personality/Skills: Sinead is very brash and outspoken; she speaks her mind the majority of the time, although she dislikes what she calls “mushy crap”. She’s been hardened over her years in the Orphanage, to the point where she can pretend the death and poverty don’t bother her. She’s had few real friends, mostly because of the work load of her job. She’s very shrewd and somewhat cynical. She dislikes humans for what they have done to the Elven race, and doesn’t believe in the Dalish’s efforts to recover history. She would start an uprising-if she had the time! A skilled herbalist, Sinead is about as good at healing as she can be for a non-mage. She has some skill with a bow and daggers, enough to defend her-self; but not enough to attack someone. She’s good at figuring out when people are lying and can negotiate quite well. She’s also got some knowledge of tactics up her sleeve, mostly from games she used to play when she was younger.

[Character Submission] Elyria Venine

Name: Elyria “Tempest” Venine

Age: 24

Race: Human

Magic: All with a Primal focus

Childhood: The daughter of an Altus family, her magic skills were highly coveted and since they showed up at the young age of five, were believed to be the beginning of a highly promising mage. She grew up learning every aspect of magic and about the politics of the Tevinter Imperium. She became most proficient in Primal magic. In particular, her manipulation of lightning and other electrical attacks was exceptional. By her pre-teens, however, she desired nothing more than to be free of this life. Her younger brother dying from an assassination attempt of her parents, her mother dying from another that was directed at her. She wanted to be free of the political infighting and power struggles. When she was thirteen she got her wish. In a horribly unexpected way. An assassin was coming for Elyria’s father. In an effort to protect himself he hired an Elf named Cato Corvinus. To be so desperate as to hire a Liberati should have shown Elyria just how bad it had gotten. But the teen was not prepared for the ensuing skirmish between both Cato and the assassin, and the death of her father. In an effort to prevent any further loss of life Cato smuggled Elyria out of her own home as chaos erupted following her father’s death. Adopting her as a sort of surrogate child, Cato continued to train Elyria in magic and with a weapon in order to prepare her for any situation, and to keep her safe from any other potential threat.

History: At the age of fifteen, Elyria was one of the first members of The Ravens, considered a founding member by all accounts. However, she did not begin to do missions with the guild until the age of sixteen. She has since been an integral member of The Ravens and has tactical and strategical advice that Cato values. She stays on task and helps Cato stay on task when he gets distracted. Over time she has honed her skills in magic and has become skilled in her weapon of choice, a war scythe. She has grown since her childhood with the highest echelons of society, and has lived in content incognito from any potential enemies her family may have made after all these years. Though she was not a person of passion, at the age of seventeen she had developed a crushing crush on a temporary member of The Ravens, Elador. The tall elf’s kind disposition toward her and features that she found attractive had caused her to be smitten for a time. Cato had noticed this and confronted her about it. The confrontation had caused her to distance herself from Elador until he had left. She regretted the decision, but moved on from it soon afterward. Aside from that incident, she has remained resolute and goal oriented for The Ravens, furthering their progress at every opportunity she can get.

Recent events and current whereabouts: After Cato's sudden death, Elyria has taken charge of The Ravens as their new captain.

Personality: If she is busy and focused on whatever task she is doing at the moment, she usually pays no mind to others unless it is out of courtesy. While living in a high social standing for half her life has taught her manners and her personal experiences have made her friendly, when a mission is set she ignores all else. Unlike Cato, she always plans ahead and prepares for whatever problems the guild might face. When she has free time, though, she enjoys herself to the fullest. Not afraid to cut loose and spend some of her hard earned income

Skills: Fights with a war scythe that functions as her staff as well for any large spells. She is best at chaining lightning attacks with her physical swings, allowing her to attack in two different ways at once. Most of her electrical attacks are chain lightning spells, allowing her to have great range when combined with the long range of the scythe.

Physical Description: Standing at almost 1.8 meters tall, Elyria has the posture of one born in the upper classes of society. She has short blonde hair with a slightly boyish cut, Silver blue eyes, a slightly sharp jawline, and pale skin. Her body is lithe and slightly muscled from years of training. She wears flexible leathers on her legs and arms and a tight but flexible material for her shirt and shorts allowing her to have the maneuverability necessary for her fighting style. Her outfit has recently been given the addition of a small insignia that is the mark of the captain.

Why Join the Order: To steal the Order's resources and train her new recruits as well as increasing The Ravens' Network in the South.

"Well, shit." - Varric "Hairy Joe" Tethras

So. We are now tied for our choice of Inquisitor.

It's come down to this: An awesome, significantly superior Qunari (Yaaaay!)

And....

A Female Dwarf mage (I keep forgetting those don't exist.)

And a not so awesome, significantly more squishy Human (Booooooooo)

So here is the plan. The thread is closed, if you haven't commented yet. (Shame on you) I'm going to post two comments below with alternating combinations: IE Qunari - Heads, Human - Tails.

Just up vote the combination you like most and then the three mods will flip coins and post our findings at the same time without telling eachother. Whatever gets 2/3 wins.

Even Dog "Mangey Joe" Hawke thinks it's a good plan.

In times of great decision and genuine consideration I take inspiration from Isabella "Big damn hat Joe"

"I like big ships, and I cannot lie."

PS: We won't cheat I swear on the grave of my grandfather's daughters son.

[Character Submission] Tamaran Anaxas

Name: Tamaran Jast Severus Anaxas

Age: 17 years old; born 9th of Solace, 9:23 Dragon, Cumberland

Race: Human, Nevarran

Magic: Maleficar

Childhood: Tamaran was the second son and third child born to a minor branch of the Anaxas bloodline in Cumberland. From birth until age six he was raised to be a noble, taught courtly manners, world history, arithmetic and multiple languages. His tutelage ended when he exhibited signs of magical talent. Unbeknownst to him and most of Nevarran society, his family had connections to an underground cult of blood mages. The minor family had made deals with the maleficarum, security and funding for the power of blood magic at their disposal. Rather than be sent to the Circle, Tamaran was given to the cult to train. Although his parents could have bargained to see him many times over the course of the next several years, they never did.

History: Tamaran would spend eleven years with the cult, first learning the basics of the four accepted schools of magic before being inducted into the secrets of the fifth school, Blood. The teachers were cold at best, prohibiting him leaving their hideout, speaking to outsiders, playing or even talking loudly. Tamaran quickly came to prefer the company of Marcus, a fellow apprentice that had been kidnapped from his home. Despite the disapproval of their teachers, the two became good friends. Marcus was an average student but Tamaran took to his studies well, enjoying the power magic gave him in a world where he himself held little agency. As the lessons advanced, their teachers began forcing them to use the blood of animals and eventually the blood of other humans in their spells. Both boys were disturbed by the change in their education but refusal often meant having their own blood turned against them. With churning stomachs and heavy hearts, they did as they were told. When the day of their final test arrived, Tamaran was dismayed to learn that he and Marcus would be pitted against each other and only one of them was expected to survive. The exact circumstances of their test had been left a secret, there was no time to find a loophole or launch an escape attempt. With the threat of death for disobedience looming over them, Tamaran and Marcus fought. Tamaran won. Unable to cope with the things he’d been forced to do, Tamaran managed to escape the cult and flee Cumberland, swearing on the soul of his lost friend that he would never touch blood that was not his ever again.

Recent events and current whereabouts: Tamaran headed down the Imperial Highway into Orlais after leaving Cumberland with no real destination in mind. He arrived at the gates of Val Foret as winter began to set in.

Physical Appearance: Tamaran has the olive coloring and black hair of most Nevarrans, but years of hiding and studying inside have left his skin sickly pale. His anemia, a common affliction among blood mages, often causes shadows to form under his dark brown eyes. His body is of average height, noticeably thin and obviously unused to vigorous activity. He tends to wear loose cloth robes of dark colors, and his boots are unremarkable. His leather gauntlets, however, are interesting in that only the back of his hands and the top halves of his forearms are armored, whereas his palms and the skin inside his forearms are covered with dark cloth. Hidden inside his robes are two small matching daggers, made of silver and engraved with runes designed for efficient bloodletting. Imgur

Personality: Having spent his first ssix years of life cloistered in his family’s estate, then another eleven years with a reclusive and harsh cult of blood mages, Tamaran has grown into a reserved, quiet young man. When he is roused to interaction he is often terse and unfriendly, as he has had very little social interaction with others that was pleasant. In the few situations where he feels at ease with others, he can become quite snarky and sarcastic. Cynical at heart, Tamaran rarely thinks things will go well for him. He can be paranoid at times, with good reason as someone discovering his past or current status as a maleficar could lead to his death via Templar. He feels deeply guilty about killing Marcus, along with the murders he was indirectly complicit in during his training. He believes that he could never fully atone for these crimes, though he doesn’t view the blood magic in of itself as one of them. Though he will take a life in self-defense or the defense of another, he would likely come to see it as just another body on his pile. Tamaran has a very poor poker face, and he has a habit of trying to hide or obscure his face when feeling strong emotions. He covers his mouth when happy, ducks his head when embarrassed, covers his eyes with his hands when sad, rubs his brows and/or the bridge of his nose when stressed and turns his head to the side when scared. Tamaran has only recently reentered the outside world and can still be thrown off by normal, everyday things such as stores, restaurants, pets, recreational drinking and weather. He can become irrationally angry at people who speak Common poorly.

Skills: Tamaran has little in the way of practical skills, besides some basic math. As for languages, he has simplistic knowledge of Orlesian, is literate in Tevene, but cannot speak it, and main tongue is Common. His skill in magic, however, is nothing to scoff at. Tamaran is competent in all four of the Circle-taught schools of magic, though he is clearly better with the Schools of Entropy and Spirit than Creation and Destruction. He is also talented with Blood Magic, though his oath to never use or manipulate blood besides his own hampers him in this regard. As a blood mage, Tamaran has knowledge of various weak point and major arteries in the human body. If pushed he could use his daggers to cause serious harm, but he still lacks actual combat training.

Why join the Order: It’s a local organization that has no government oversight, employs mages, and doesn’t look too closely into the history of its recruits.

The Raven's Roster Part Deux

Due to the original roster, linked here being archived, I have made a second roster to continue the lineup.

Name: Haelfrut “Bard” Flamayni

Age: 40

Race: Human

Magic: None

Childhood: Raised in an impoverished home in the poor district in Cumberland, Haelfrut learned to live through any means necessary. He was never as big as the other kids and had to use his quick hands and quicker feet to steal and stay alive. At the age of thirteen he found a spare lute on the side of the road and decided to try and teach himself how to play. This turned his days of a street rat into days as an Orlesian bard.

History: The better his music got, of course, the more notice others took of it. After several years a woman approached Haelfrut, offering to teach him the ways of intrigue that the “real” Orlesian bards use. A ruse to instead turn Haelfrut into a pawn for the Game. He became an adept spy and even found love, fathering two sons. But when his wife was killed in a crossfire of intrigue between two nobles Haelfrut wanted to escape this profession. His employer asked him to do one more job before he did: Kill Cato Corvinus. A simple enough task to eliminate a mercenary leader that was causing trouble for the kind of people one shouldn’t cause trouble for. But Haelfrut’s plan was thwarted when a young wild Elf by the name of Elador got in the way and subsequently resulted in the capture of Haelfrut. Seeing no other option, Haelfrut agreed to help Cato track down who hired him, and in doing so earned Cato’s respect. Cato has since invited him to join the Ravens, promising his boys a safe haven and good wages. Haelfrut accepted the terms, glad to have a second adult in his life that does not use him as a throwaway tool.

Recent events and current whereabouts: Working a job in the Orlesian border.

Personality: Level-headed, friendly, and patronly are the defining factors of his personality. He gives off a warm personality that is personified in his music as well as his demeanor. The only way to anger him is to threaten his friends or family. Even then, it is a cold anger that one might pay for bringing about.

Skills: Proficient with instruments and voice for performances. Also has the less savory skillsets of a bard. This includes a proficiency in knives, poisons, marksmanship, stealth and espionage. His primary weapon is an instrument similarly designed to a Koto, which he uses for both music and to fire precision needles to disable or kill opponents, an excellent tool for assassinations or captures. If pressed into real combat he will use a shortsword and dagger, enchanted with various runes to suit his needs. All weapons and tools are coated with poison before engagement.

Physical Description: Haelfrut has a fatherly look about him. A slight amount of stubble and short brown hair complimenting the strong chin and slightly pronounced cheekbones. He has hazel eyes and a strong build. His hands and fingers are dainty and nimble despite the roughness of the rest of his body, calloused with experience from playing. 6'0" tall. He usually wears a simple outfit that leaves him very unassuming to others, with his instruments and his weapons carried on his back or sides. He usually has a belt with several simple potions or poisons for use should the need arise, and nice leather boots.

.

Name: Verillius “Quill” Alabaster

Age: 35

Race: Elf

Magic: None

Childhood: Born a nobody, Verillius was a quiet and curious child. He often sought out knowledge of one form or another. In his teens he found himself working in the employ of a magister, for little better pay than a slave. But what he got out of it was more important than any of that. The magister’s library, a vast wealth of knowledge, was open to him whenever he wanted.

History: Over the years he had learned much from the tomes of various magisters and laetans he has worked for. Though much of it was magical knowledge, a talent he had none of, he found it all to be nonetheless exciting. Then, one day in 9:35 Dragon, a letter came to his modest home. An invitation to The Ravens. Verillius had become acquainted with Cato during one of Cato’s jobs for a magister. Offered much more pay than his previous job and a library of his own to fill, Verillius excitedly took the position and moved his small amount of things to the Raven’s fort. He has worked there ever since.

Recent events and current whereabouts: Tending to the finances of the Ravens and chronicling their activities at their fort.

Personality: One will often find Verillius’ mood to depend upon both the book he is reading and how close he is to it. The former because of the ups and downs of literature, the latter because of his love of the former. He will usually be friendly to others, but always concise and multi-tasking. He only converses greatly when one asks him about information, in which he will be happy to provide all too much of, or when discussing previous literature he has read. This has caused a strong relationship between Verillius and Kanis, who both spend a great deal of their time reading books.

Skills: Verillius has a knack for innovation, given how much he reads. He was the one who created the Ravens messenger system, which helped prevent messages from being read if intercepted. He has also organized a great deal of the Ravens’ affairs. As far as combat goes, Verillius only knows the basics of sword fighting, preferring two short swords.

Physical Description: A thin, wirey frame outlines the Elf, who always looks as if he never gets enough sleep or food. Dark bags hang under his eyes from years of spending late nights reading. He wears a simple light blue tunic and pants, has long blonde hair he often ties into a ponytail, and stands at roughly 5’3” tall. Never tends to keep weapons on him.

A quick run down on the time skip

The time skip will be happening after the conclusions of a couple of threads...that I am holding up by being lazy. Anyway. Once it happens we will be moving out date forward to just before the breach. Each character will be allowed two posts taking place during the time encompassed by the time skip. We are skipping this for a reason and do not want you to write the entirety of your story while it is away.

There will be no hiatus, or anything of that nature. Once the skip is declared the next day (IRL) will be set in the spring of 9:41 Dragon a few days prior to the explosion at the conclave. The Order will be heavily recruiting during this time period to replish it's numbers, as well as heavily modifying the Crown.

All in all it should be a fun time and myself and the mod team are really looking forward to the new avenues it will open.

Stay Classy

Errants, Mages and Smugglers: An NPC List

This is a list of characters as they appear alongside Maric Harper. Wlll be updated as profiles are completed.

Kara Markham, knight lieutenant, Last Commander of the Kirkwall Chapter

Early Life: Born in the Markham alienage in 9:06 , Kara was the third child of a pair of elves who had managed to run a shop within the Alienage walls. While far from rich, her parents were able to keep their family fed and comfortable. Her lessons were far from those expected of a future templar. She watched as her parents managed a complicated webs of debts, bribes and favors to survive. She learned how to talk guards into accepting bribes to look other way on smuggling, to keep the various debtors who owed her family money and favors from turning on them. From her older brothers, she learned how to scrap in back alleys against other Alienage youths. Her life changed in 9:20 Dragon, when an elven apostate tried to hide in the Markham Alienage.

Markham records are silent on what happened in the alienage. It is known that a week after the apostate arrived, the alienage was sealed Three days after that, a templar company entered the alienage. Kara, maimed and battered, left with the Templars. Their intent was for her to serve as a servant in the training monastery of the Free Marches. She had different intentions.

She demanded to be inducted into the Templar order. She was denied. She demanded it again, and was nearly turned out from the monastery. For the third time, she demanded to be inducted into the Templar Order. Annoyed and bemused by the elf who demanded anything of her betters, they agreed on one condition. She had to duel a neophyte templar about to complete his vows. She agreed, to the surprise of the Templars. The duel was brief and bloody. The monastery’s knight commander had to pull Kara off the unconscious neophyte. As promised, Kara was inducted as a neophyte of the Templar Order. She took the last name Markham as she was inducted into the Order’s rolls.

Career: After she took her vows, Kara was immediately sent to the one templar garrison of Harvard’s Rest, a once important pilgrimage stop in the Free Marches, long since forgotten by all but the Chantry and the village around it. It was a convenient place to hide away an embarrassing templar. Kara took to he duty without complaint, arriving at Harvard’s Rest in 9:24 Dragon. She took to her duties well, a lone figure in armor patrolling the crumbling walls built around a centuries old Chantry. She kept her distance from the townsfolk around the Chantry, careful never to remove her helmet in their presence.

Bandits attacked Harvard’s rest in the winter of that year, driving the terrified villagers behind the walls of the Chantry. Alone and horribly outnumbered, Kara fought the bandits for four days, culminating in a battle at the doors of the Chantry itself where Kara killed the bandit chief with her broken sword.

There were two important results of this desperate defense: the first was the Damnation of Vyrantium, a enchanted longsword encrusted with flame runes of incredible potency. It had been left at the Chantry in Harvard’s Rest after an Exalted March some centuries ago. It had been left in the care of the sisters by the Templar Order for “a Templar worthy of bearing it”. The sisters, alive due to Kara’s skill and bravery, granted it to her as a replacement for her lost sword. The second result was her transfer to Markham as part of the garrison under Knight Commander Spelt.

It was under Spelt that Kara met Cowin Tendis. Both were pariahs in an order that valued unity, and working together made them less vulnerable to hectoring by other templars. It was also in Markham, that Kara found she had a knack for what the Templar Order calls “reformation”. Markham was a dumping ground for problem Templars: malingerers, cowards and other malcontents not quite worthy of official censure by the Seekers. The goal was not to retrain them, but to keep them out of sight and out of mind. Spelt, well-meaning but not harsh enough for his duty, came to rely increasingly on Kara to keep order in his garrison. This she took to alacrity, especially after her promotion to knight lieutenant in 9:28 Dragon.

The next twelve years saw Markham become a respectable garrison again and Spelt retire to lyrium addled dotage. Spelt was replaced by Knight Commander Alissa, a respectable officer promoted from the Antiva City garrison. She immediately recognized Kara’s value as an officer, and gave her responsibilities on par with a knight captain. She also gifted the knight lieutenant with a helm shaped after a snarling wolf. To many in the garrison, it was clear that Kara was being groomed for the captaincy and quite possibly for the commander’s post.

This never came to pass. The events of Kirkwall tore that city apart, and the Free Marches were thrown into chaos.

In 9:40, the Markham garrison, swollen with surviving knights from Kirkwall and recalled garrisons from across the Free Marches, was ordered to join the Templar forces moving to investigate the Dairsmuid Circle. The garrison was renamed the “Kirkwall Chapter” as the remaining Kirkwall Templars outnumbered the rest of the garrison.

Darismuid was a disaster for the chapter. Ordered into the first assault wave, the Templars took horrible losses from the entrenched mages. Knight commander Alissa was killed in the opening minutes, followed shortly thereafter by her two knight captains. The templars almost routed until Kara rallied them, carrying the Markham banner as she reordered the chapter. After hours of bloody fighting against mages and their enraged families, the chapter secured the tower entrance and a number of prisoners. News that the Right of Annulment had been declared followed not long after. Another wave of Templars displaced the chapter from the positions they had so bloodily won.

As the shattered chapter withdrew, they did their best to ignore the screams as the prisoners were executed. Kara was left in charge, and she saw to her wounded and the few dead that could be recovered were seen to. After the Annulment of Dairsmuid, most of the remaining Templars and Seekers left Rivain by ship to Amaranthine. The Kirkwall chapter did not. Instead it was ordered to make a march through Rivain as it made its way south as a show of the Templar Order’s strength. Kara objected on the grounds that she would be left vulnerable to reprisals. In return, she was threatened with loss of rank and imprisonment. Knowing it would be better to lead her knights, she acquiesced.

Kara started with one hundred knights on her march through Rivain. She left with eighteen.

Appearance: Of average height and build for a knight of the Templar Order. Years of fighting from the front have left her scarred and battered: her nose has been broken several times and reset poorly, her left ear cut in half and her face is marked by a handprint scar that she refuses to speak about. Her right eye is a ruin is filled with silver gold fleck around her broken pupil. Her “normal” eye is green. She has red hair, which she keeps bound tightly to fit under her helmet. Her armor, recently replaced, is the gold chased armor of a knight captain.

Personality: Kara is capable of great courage, always leading from the front. While she has long been an outcast in her own Order, she cares for the knights she leads and will put them ahead of herself whenever possible. She is quick to defend her friends and allies, and rewards loyalty with loyalty in turn. Has no tolerance for abominations, demons or spirits. She does not hide her feelings, even when it would be tactful to do so.

Gavel

**Name:**Gavel

Age: 28, Forests along the eastern borders of Nevarra and the Free Marches

Race: Dalish Elf

Magic: Not a mage

Childhood: Gavel lived with his clan and was raised there as a Dalish. Though a bit more skeptical of some of the more xenophobic members of his clan, Gavel enjoyed his time there. As a non-mage, he wasn't selected to be a keeper and was instead trained to be a hunter and dabbled some with the mercantile trade. Thorugh that, he learned how to read and write. Mostly though, he was enamored by alchemy and herbcraft. His 'education' was thus spent furthering his skills as a hunter and as an apothecary/alchemist.

Gavel was mostly a quiet child and would often carry no presence. As a result, people would often forget his presence within an area. He could also sneak away without getting in trouble when the Keeper scolded the other children. Unfortunately, this led to him being isolated from most of the other children and other members of the clan save for the herbalist, Taerel, and the clan's First, Nesiara. They did their best to not to lose sight of him, though they did from time to time. Nesiara was the pride of the clan while Gavel...was mostly a target for the other kids. He of course had feelings for her but chose not to act on them since he wasn't very much a desirable companion. Nesiara cared for him as an elder sister for her younger brother.

History: Gavel and his clan were traveling from place to place when they stopped by one of the minor towns in the Marches. Gavel had joined Taerel along with their main trader to barter supplies for the clan. Gavel, quiet and nondescrpit as he is, got separated from Taerel and Nesiara while they traded. The reason for his separation? He saw a dwarven alchemist mixing and combining odd and various herbs that Gavel vaguely knew to be volatile. However, the alchemist didn't blow up or die. He watched the man mix and prepare various concoctions while asking the alchemist about his mixtures. Gavel, after a time, realized His clan had left and forgotten him in this small town of the Marches. He was 18 at the time.

Gavel, lost for words, went back to the alchemist, Regrin Tiden, and told him what happened. Regrin, a foul mouthed surface dwarf with ties to the carta, shrugged and took Gavel on as an apprentice. He figured the kid knew enough about herbs and potions to not kill himself and could teach him about Dalish recipes. Gavel then stuck with Regrin for a number of years as the dwarf traveled the Marches.

Regrin took it upon himself to teach Gavel more about alchemy and a little of his own skills as a tempest. Gavel learned some of the skills of the tempest but he proved himself to be nothing short of an idiot when it came to those skills.

When Gavel turned 24, he and Regrin made their way from the Marches to Orlais on the orders of the Carta. There Gavel and Regrin attempted to eke out a living as herbalists for some of the small settlements just outside of Val Royeaux. Gavel spent a good majority of his time in Val Royeaux trying to find out where his clan is and one day reunite with them.

Recent events and current whereabouts: It's been three years since Gavel and Regrin moved to outside the capital. Just a few days before Gavel turned 27, he found himself selling various potions for Regrin in Val Royeaux. He was having a hard time of it since people tended to not notice him. Just as he was about to close up an annoyingly unsuccessful day, he noticed an older elven man walk through the streets. What surprised him was that this man looked remarkably like Taerel. However, he didn't wear any vallaslin marking for June as Taerel did in his memory. He abandoned the shop and chased after him. When he caught up with the man, the man's eyes widened. He recognized his young pupil and held him tight. Gavel questioned Taerel about why he was in Val Royeaux and why he wasn't wearing his Vallaslin. Taerel's face went grim as he explained how their clan was slaughtered while he and a few others were in a human village trading. Many were taken into slavery and sold and others were brutally murdered. Taerel was sold into Tevinter who attempted to use the elf for a blood sacrifice. Taerel escaped and he heard rumors of some of the others beign in Orlais, particularly Nesiara and that a military company in the Western Approach might have some answers.

Gavel listened and decided that he would help Taerel locate the others and brought Taerel back to live with Regrin just outside the capital.

Physical Description: Gavel is a slender elf with short cut black hair. His eyes are a bright lavender. His skin is a shade of caramel. Aside from his eyes, Gavel is quite nondescript. He is neither hideous nor handsome. He is completely average. He slouches a bit and walks around others. He received vallaslin marking him for Dirthammen as a nod to his ability to disappear. He also doesn't like wearing shoes.

He has a few burn marks from improper mixing of ingredients that led to...explosive results.

He has at Regrin's shop, a pair of daggers, a dark blue and black cloak.

Clothes wise, he wears a black tunic shirt and dark navy pants. His clothes state he is a servant.

When geared out for combat, he trades his black tunic for leather tunic mixed with chainmail. He also wears a black and navy blue cloak. The tunic and britches were tailored for mobility and ease of movement. His cloak also has a hood and cowl.

Personality: Gavel is a quiet lad, he isn't asocial in the slightest its just he is easily forgotten. He carries no presence and lacks in self-confidence as a result. Gavel, as a part of being forgotten a number of years ago, has become more unwilling to trust others and is more likely to be snarky and disparaging. He tends to remain detached if he thinks no one notices him which is often.

He is very knowledgeable about potions and herbs, and is eager to help and share if people notice him.

He feels very passionately about abandonment and being forgotten and will react violently and angrily in situations where those issues pop up. If for instance, someone talks about ditching another member of the group to go to another location, Gavel will probably attempt to punch the first person in the face, repeatedly with his daggers.

Skills: One thing Gavel is very good at, is going into 'stealth'. He always found it easy to vanish into the shadows while he was a kid in the Dalish clan and that hasn't changed since he's grown up. He's also very skilled at daggerplay and, as a result, wields a pair of daggers. He can use a bow but he's about average for a Dalish. He can survive using a bow and arrow but in combat he's not going to be quick enough with it to bring down a foe. If going by class specializations in Dragon age, he's a mix of the assassin from DAI and the shadow from DA2 with some knowledge of poison weapons and bombs.

He has basic training as a tempest but lacks proper skill with it. He can brew those potions and can use them, with about 80% success.

Why Join the Order: He's not a member, yet. He might end up joining but as of now he's not a member. He's going to approach the order though looking for intel.

(let me know if there is anything to fix)

[Character Submission] Brynden Winters (Maunsell)

Name: Brynden Winters (Maunsell)

Age & Birthplace: 28, Winter’s Breath

Race: Human (Fereldan)

Magic: Spirit Blade, Flame

Childhood: Brynden Winters grew up the bastard child of a Fereldan noble, Bann William Maunsell of Winter’s Breath, a small holding in the Bannorn. Brynden was the sole male offspring from Bann William, but the Bann had several legitimate children and as a bastard Bryn was never in line to inherit the lands. However, Brynden was Bann Maunsell’s only son, and despite his lowborn status William decided he would keep the boy at court.

Brynden showed magical prowess at an early age, yet due to the attachment between father and son Bann Maunsell did his best to hide the child from the templars. Bryn grew up isolated from fellow children, for Bann Maunsell claimed the child was sickly, and kept him locked away until the boy could control the magical outbursts. Eventually, at the age of eight, Brynden could somewhat control himself and was given tutelage like any other member of the nobility. He learned to fight, to govern, and soon became one of his father’s most trusted advisors. Given the surname of Winters, after his birthplace, Bryn served on his father’s council.

History: When the Landsmeet occurred, during the Fifth Blight, Brynden and his father attended. It was there that Bryn took it upon himself to join the Wardens. He waited, of course, until the Hero of Ferelden had defeated the Archdemon, and once he knew it was safe Brynden Winters travelled to Weisshaupt, in the far north. It was there that he became a Warden, and survived the Joining.

Bryn served his time as a Warden dutifully and showed great promise; the man could fight with magic and sword, and had his wits about him. He was sent out into the world, away from Weisshaupt, as part of a small band of Wardens tracking down loose pockets of Darkspawn who had remained after the blight.

Recent events and current whereabouts: Brynden and his men found themselves in Orlais, following rumours of several Darkspawn who had crossed the Fereldan border. They were led into a trap by a handful of bloodmages, who had circulated the rumour, and experimented on and/or sacrificed.

Physical Description: Brynden is tall, with long dark hair and stubble. His eyes are a deep green in colour. Regarded as handsome by his peers, the mage has a toned build but is not overly muscular. He can often be found in his warden armour; loose-fitting blue and grey linen clothing hidden under a leather jerkin.

Personality: Usually a jovial person, Brynden the bastard has became a bit sour as of late. Perhaps it’s the news that the breach has opened above Haven, or perhaps it’s due to the Pride Demon afflicting his every thought.

Skills: Fire magic, swordplay, noble upbringing

Why Join the Order: Brynden is not looking to join the order; he is just arriving in Val Foret after being subjected to the whims of the bloodmages.

Upcoming Time-skip and YOU!

Hey everyone, it's me, Clones. I'm sure you remember me as your one true mod king. (I still am.)

As most of you may know (At least, I hope you know.) But we've been writing during the time before The Breach and the subsequent events of Dragon Age: Inquisition. As such, after the event as seen here and continued here (for organization sake) and the post event celebration/wrap up, we'll be jumping ahead to around the time The Breach first opens up.

You may or may not have to alter your storyline, which we apologize for now. If by chance, you are unable to alter your story to fit the jump, please message one of the mods as soon as possible.

Thank you! Have fun writing!
