The place for news, song sharing and discussions on all things related to melodic death metal.
Melodic death metal is a subgenre of metal that combines elements from the new wave of British heavy metal (NWOBHM) with components of death metal. Melodic death metal began in the early 1990s through the rise of bands such as In Flames, Dark Tranquillity and At The Gates.

The following bands may only be posted once per month. Before you post them, search the subreddit to see if they have been posted recently.
See this post for more details
1. When posting a song, have the title in the form Artist - Song Name, followed by any relevant comment in parentheses (optional) or it will be removed.
2. Make sure that songs posted are melodic death metal, or at the very least, incorporate melodeath elements.
3. No reposting of songs/albums that have already been posted in the past 6 months. Also avoid posting songs of a band that was posted a lot recently, especially if it was just a few hours ago.
4. Bands on the restricted list are only allowed to be posted once every 30 days independent of song/album, so check whether they have been posted within the last month before posting. Exceptions are new releases, and to circumvent your restricted band post being autoremoved write "[new]" at the end of your title.
5. Please refrain from posting full Albums/EPs, but instead choose one song and submit that.
6. No memes, shitposting or reaction videos. Post this to r/MetalMemes instead.
7. Avoid low effort posts, such as blurry photos, live shows recorded with your smartphone or lazy text posts that we already had plenty of. For recommendations for newbies check our wiki, for raving yet again about how awesome Insomnium is visit our Weekly Discussion Thread.
8. Keep self promotion to a minimum.
9. No partial or low-quality covers.
10. No AI generated content.
11. No direct uploads. If you are posting a song/album, link directly to it on Youtube, Bandcamp etc.
12. Do not link to illegal download services.
13. No hate speech, racism, misogyny, ableism, homophobic or transphobic slurs etc. Also, do not promote bands that fall into one of these categories.

Looking to expand my melodeath catalogue, recently found Eternal Tears of Sorrow and absolutely in love! These are some others I’ve listened to:
Aether Realm Insomnium Children of Bodom Opeth Wintersun In Flames Dark Tranquility Scar Symmetry
Probably a few others but those are the standouts off the top of my head. Would love to hearts recommendations similar to these listed!

MDM has been around since the early 90s and there have been many albums that have revolutionized the sound, but in my opinion 2015’s “The Ride Majestic” by Soilwork has to be the best MDM album ever made, I’d even go as far to say one of the best music albums ever made. This album is a journey, a “majestic” ride (pun intended). Every song here is a 10/10 and vocals, the guitar work, the drums, the melodies are all peak here.
Of course this just my opinion, but I would love to know what you all consider the best MDM album ever made in your opinion, not because it’s considered great by everyone else but you.

What have you been listening to? What bands did you discover? What music related stories do you want to share? Anything exciting happened in the past week?
Looking for something in a in flames - the Halo effect sound, please not the normal recommendations like at the gates, soliwork, dark tranquillity, scar symmetry & Ensiferum
I discovered this band this year and I'm very happy about it.
Its like a "soft Black Dahlia Murder", much influence on their riffage but not too agressive as them. I think they are awesome because they mix the best of two worlds in melodic death metal, the cool tbdm riffage and the atmospheric vibe like Insomnium and others. Great mix too, sounds so soft, clean and pleasant. (especially last two albums, Inherent Perception and Monuments)

Arch Enemy is probably my fave Melo death band, any recommendations that get close, I suppose they're main strength is their anthemic quality, uplifiting songs about anarchist revolution.
Keyboards are a plus
Need some good angry songs about grief and loss.
