Well lads, put up a post a while back about lookin' for Murphy's in Castlebar. I couldn't believe my luck, up this weekend and the new bar that opened up has it. Buzzing ain't the word š
Well guys. Just looking for stuff to do to kill a Sunday in Castlebar or surrounding areas that may be a bit lesser known; done all the main things, bowling , cinema , lake walk , etc. also looking for a place to grab a bit of dinner afterwards, are Al Murretto and Bar One still good shouts? Cheers
Well lads and Ladies just a quick question for a southerner with a girlfriend in Castlebar. Anywhere to get a good pint of Murphy's around the town or are ye all still suffering from the Guinness propaganda. Found plenty in Galway but none in Mayo as of yet....
Hi guys! So myself & my fiancĆ© viewed a house in Knock in Mayo recently but both of us donāt know mayo well. We love the house but unsure on location. Is knock nice to live in? Iāve heard some dicey things about the travellers, especially during Novena where they block whole estates & leave the place in an awful state & cause ruckus- the estate is verry close to the shrine.
Whatās everyoneās opinions who knows knock or people living there??
Damned NCT is f'ing me over altogether... How much is acceptable for 4 wheel alignment these days? (Female and don't wanna get shafted)
I hope this is allowed hereā¦
Two tickets for sale for 8pm show (44 euro). DM if interested.
Thanks
Hi everyone š I hope youāre all having a lovely week so far!
It is Eating Disorder Awareness Week this week and we are trying to raise awareness for something called orthorexia - which is a disordered eating pattern wherein people become obsessively fixated on āpureā foods. Very little is known about orthorexia in an Irish context which is severely impacting the provision of appropriate care.
I would be very grateful if anyone had a spare 5 minutes to take part in our short survey which is completely anonymous. ANYONE aged 18-25 and living in Ireland can take part - whether you experience eating related issues or not. We are finding it difficult to get the number of participants required (400 more needed!) so your contribution would really make a difference.
You would help us to learn more about something that is vastly under-researched in Ireland which would be very much appreciated.

I have mapped out 250,000 plus properties that registered with the government/RTB. It provides insights into where people rent, hence I have done a breakdown per county and nationwide.
Each County heatmap(top map), can be zoomed down, to see the actual RTB property registered.
Please share with your friends, and tell them about Howmuchrent.com, which I built for Rental Transparency.
Howmuchrent.com: Every Renter has a story to tell about their place. Add your story to the map.

As part of my drive for Rental Transparency in Ireland, I mapped all the properties registered with the RTB: https://www.howmuchrent.com/r/rtb\_verified . It cost me over 1000 Euro to do this, and I hope you find it useful. This gives the first insight into where people are registered to rent in Ireland. Also, you can see which landlords have not registered their tenants.
Any media outlets that might be interested in this story?

From https://www.rtb.ie/registration-and-compliance/registrations/registering-your-tenancy/how-to-register
Taking effect from 04 April 2022, a landlord is obliged to apply to the Residential Tenancies Board (RTB) to register a tenancy - or a licence in Student Specific Accommodation (SSA) - within 1 month of its commencement date and every year after this, on the anniversary of the date the tenancy began, for so long as the tenancy/SSA licence exists.āÆĀ
Myself and a few friends were staying on Collanmore Island near Westport last weekend and I lost my wedding ring, most likely while swimming and kayaking just off the shore. We tried searching along the beach but couldn't find it. We reckon it was probably lost while swimming either near the jetty or at an area nearby which I've marked on a map here. I would normally have taken it off when going in the water but it just slipped my mind this time unfortunately.
ā
These are the two areas where the ring was most likely lost
zoomed out view of the general area
I know it's a long shot but if anyone happens to be in the area please keep an eye out for it as it obviously has an enormous amount of sentimental value. Please do get in touch if you come across anything. It's a distinctive looking ring so it should be easily identifiable if found.
Thank you!
Hi r/mayo
I'm moving over this month and would love some less well known facts about the county / your favourite parts about living there? Any suggestions welcome.
Thanks!
What's the story with the coastal fences at Uggool beach, near Silver Strand, Louisburgh? They seem to have been erected by owners of the Lost Valley, which is fair because they own the land, but according to legislation beaches can't be owned by individuals, only the state. The signs all state that it's an EU protected conservation initiative, but then why on earth are they grazing sheep there? Seems dodgy
Would anyone here be willing to recommend a good residential real estate person? Specifically someone with experience with expats?
Appreciate any referrals. Please message me if not comfortable replying. Thank you in advance!
Hi all, heading to Ballina tomorrow for the long weekend. Any recommendations for best places to eat on Saturday evening? Tips for pubs/things to do also welcome!
We are new to Ireland from Canada, one of the changes we are sorting out is having the choice of schooling for our daughters.
We are in the Ballina area, and it's hard trying to find any info besides what the schools themselves provide. Any helpful advice on choosing between schools, specifically Secondary schools?
Good morning,
Taking a spin to Castlebar and looking for somewhere good to eat lunch.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
I hope this post is allowed.
We have a leek in the roof ever since Isha... a couple of tiles behind the chimney seem to have come off. The water is seeping through the insulation and I have a wet patch on the bedroom ceiling. I can't go up there on my own as I don't even own a ladder that goes up that high.
Does anyone know a reliable roofer? I already tried a couple of people who came recommended but they won't be able call out to us for another two weeks.
Would be very grateful for your help.
Hi, So Iām currently 21 weeks pregnant and 27 years old. I decided to book an appointment in a popular hairdressers in castlebar town. 12 pm Wednesday and with the woman who went through everything with me in advance. She advised me to look through Pinterest for inspiration for the undercut. So I found this photo. The hair colour and texture is similar to mine and I wanted the undercut cut like to this level as I had my gender reveal the next day. So Iāve included two photos one is the Pinterest photo and the other is what I came out with. Now the colour is good ! Itās nothing extremely stand outish. But the undercut! Jesus I only got a glimpse of it before I left and paid! I paid 140 euro for it all and while I understand itās fairly standard for a wash cut and colour! The undercut is like something out of American horror storey (penny) will add more photos in comments
Anybody have any recomendations for getting my Septic Tank emptied? In the west coast of the county.
(Apologies for the novel I ended up typing!!)
Well lads, myself and my partner are looking at moving from Limerick to Castlebar in the new year, and since I haven't lived there in about 5 years, I feel a little lost.
Rent prices seem okay on Daft, but would anyone know anywhere else we could try looking? Facebook doesn't seem to have any rent groups for Mayo, which sucks because that's how I'm more used to finding accommodation :( We're looking to move mostly due to rent prices, we're currently spending ā¬700 on a room in a shared house, and we're hoping to rent a place together under ā¬1300, how hopeful should we be?
I was also wondering what it's like living there as an adult? I know that's a silly question, but I've gotten used to living in a city, having plenty of shops, pubs, concerts etc within a stone's throw of me, and I remember being bored stiff in town when I was a teenager! I know there's the TF and pubs in town, but what do people in their 20s get up to bar that? I have a few friends to meet with, but my partner will essentially be starting fresh as he only knows my family there and has only met some of my friends once or twice, and we both suck at making friends, which is exceptionally harder to do outside of work and college...
Neither of us are big drinkers (I only have a drink or two for special occasions, and he's not one for going out), and we're both into nerdy stuff, so anything outside of going to pubs would be really useful to know!
Thanks in advance! :)
So in ballinrobe we were meant to have like 3 shopping centres - one was built and then left abandoned. We were meant to have a cinema- it wasn't built. We were meant to have a swimming pool - it wasn't built... Nothing ever happens in ballinrobe, we were also meant to have a bypass since 2009 and still don't have it. Does anybody know of any big projects in ballinrobe rn? I always notice the small things around town and I noticed that they took all the signs off dunleavys hardware which had been closed for 10 years, they put a gate at the shoe corner shopping centre building, i have also seen vans frequently coming in there so possibly they might do something with it. There is hope for the new town hall to be done next year but other than that nothing is happening. Look at claremorris (a town with only 600 more people living in it), they have a full shopping centre, a lidl, a working train station... so much more things. Does anybody else think that ballinrobe is in need of a shopping centre or even a retail park or new shops or something (I heard dunnes wanted to open in the shoe corner shopping centre but the building was to expensive to buy and refurbish)
