How to conceal vertical lines above top lip?

Don't know what these are called, but they are thin vertical lines (almost like paper cuts) above my top lip. Lipstick or gloss migrates into them no matter what makeup I use, No foundation, primer or concealer that I've tried works. If it matters, I have dry, sensitive skin. Any suggestions?

Best long lasting foundations for oily skin?

I’ve got a big event coming up and need a foundation that can last all day on my oily skin! I’m pretty good with my makeup routine, but most foundations I’ve tried either start sliding off or look too cakey after a few hours. I usually use a mattifying primer and setting spray, but I’m looking for a foundation that can keep up without constant touch ups. Any recommendations? Bonus points if it's lightweight but still gives good coverage!

Is it too late for me?

I’m 57, had breast cancer in 2021 and because of that I’m on a med that wipes out all estrogen in my body. That’s fun 😩. I’m past menopause and I’ve just lost 50 lbs. As a result of all of this I look really dull, wrinkly, and just old. Is there anything short of surgery I can do to restore some glow and lift to my skin?

Eyebrow pencil for graying brunette

I used the search feature and only found the answer to gray/silver. I’m not quite there yet but I’m starting to feel like my usual pencil is a little too dark. If I go a shade lighter, it’s too auburn. I’ve tried several brands. Does anybody have a suggestion for a salt and pepper brunette who is still mostly dark except around the face?

New to makeup, but want to feel pretty for once. Advice would be great!

Hey,

I'd like to start off with saying that I don't know anything about makeup, except for some things I've read online. I'm pretty confused about it all tbh. So any advice/suggestions would be great!

I don't want to go into it of anything, but for a little background: I never had freinds and so I never had anyone to help me figure these things out. I also don't work (yet) due to mental illness, so I still don't have any friends to help me. I literally only know that random things I've been able to pick up online (but most of these assume I know what they are talking about)

I'm trying really hard to change and I've heard that making yourself feel pretty can help with self-esteem (I have none) and self-confidence (I have none).

I know I'm late to the party and will never be able to have that flawless skin look (fine lines and all), but I'd like to get as close as possible.

I don't even know what the different brushes do, what the difference between liquid and powder is, what all the pieces are (like primer? What does it do? I think you put it on first right?)

I guess, I'm looking for help with routine specifics as well as recommendations of products. Also, if you have a favorite and what your affordable second option might be!

I have oily skin that is prone to breaking out, skin isn't great looking (like it would be nice to hide it behind foundation), larger pores, and I'd really like to hide my fine lines (nasolabial folds and 11s). I heard you can do this with lighter foundation blended (i dont know how to blend) with the normal foundation?

If I'm a lost cause, let me know... but I'd like to try. Thanks again!

Going from brunette to blond

I would love to hear people's experience with this as a mature person who has a lot of gray coming in. Right now I regularly color the roots as it grows and am considering tranistioning to a light color overall. I want it as low-maintanance as possible (if possible?) Thank-you

KaremMD Trifecta

After coming across Dr. Karem's YouTube channel, I'm considering buying this three-step skincare regime. I'm hesitant since it's pricey. Has anyone tried it and what was your results?

Beauty enhancements advice

Hi, New here. And to the world of beauty enhancements. I am fighting the ravages of time in my 40s, starting to admit that I am no longer a looker. Never was, but some of my traits have become somewhat erased. My eyes are small and bland, encircled by dark rings, and the shape of my face has changed from a beautiful oval to a jowly square. Anyhoo, I’m looking for beauty enhancement advice that DOES not require daily makeup. My skin is sensitive (eczema), my eyes are beyond dry and do not tolerate makeup. I’m looking more for somewhat permanent fixes:

  • defining my eyes: permanent makeup? Lash extensions?
  • solving the dark circles - any advance treatments?
  • defining my eyebrows without too much pain (can’t tolerate plucking)
  • hiding the squareness of my face.

All of the enhancements should be as natural looking as possible.

Much appreciated!

My skin, oh my poor skin. Help me.

Ok so, I’m in the throws of menopause and obviously it’s creating so many chances. I’m a founding member of the low self image club related to years of obesity and abuse. Not so obese anymore but my skin on my face is so all over the place. I love wearing makeup, just for me, it’s sort of cathartic and an art I love to practice. I’m fairly good at it and get compliments on colors, applications, preciseness, etc. Now, my skin is so horrible I’ve stopped wearing makeup. Wrinkles, combo skin, discoloration, enlarged pores, and crape paper texture. I use products daily that have been recommended by experts, personal dermatologist, et all. My skin doesn’t improve. To add insult to injury, I’m in a position where buying anything that isn’t a life sustaining need is just unattainable.

What can I do? What evidence based tips and tricks can I do with things I have around my home? I miss putting makeup on, it’s fun for me. Thanks y’all

Best eyeshadow formulas for mature eyes?

I see mattes recommended a lot, and I feel like those are pretty easy to find. But I also keep seeing satin formulas referenced in certain places for mature skin, but other than MAC (which I'm allergic to sadly) what other brands have good satins?

Or, just in general, what formulas/singles/palettes/etc. do you find flattering on more mature eyes?

Foundation Woes

All the lists for "best foundations for mature skin" are just a list of foundations with skincare in them. I have a skincare routine, I want the foundation that truly doesn't settle into fine lines. I really don't want to spend $50 ten times trying to find it. Drugstore brands I could afford to try out a few. I am looking for FOUNDATION, not BB/CC creams/tinted moisturizer (sorry if I sound cranky, these online lists have made me insane). I need something for the "full face" nights. I'd like medium coverage that can build to full. I'm looking for the holy Grail (as are we all lol). I wouldn't be mad if there was a concealer recommendation too!

I have combination skin, but not too bad in either direction. I'm very fair, some sunspots, makeup tends to crease on my forehead and under my eyes. Daily, I wear Australian Golded tinted mineral sunscreen on forehead and around eyes, and Japanese water sunscreen on the rest of my face and neck.

Thanks!!!

need some natural looking basics, please advise.

So I gave up makeup somewhere in my thirties, like why am I doing all this sheeit, but now that eyebrows and eyelashes and lips are disappearing and my face is sliding down my skull, I feel like I need a few basics, so people can see I still have features. However, I still think its a ton of work and money to try and find some things that work and match my skin tone and dont pill or smudge, or cost a fortune, especially in trial and error..

Is there somewhere to shop, where someone will do a make up trial and help me get a few basic products that work? I can only research so much on line, and Im almost maxed out. Thanks in advance. I may post in a few places. Hope I didnt offend anyone with my attempts at humor.

Digging the Skin You're In

Beauty is a matter of opinion. I am a strong believer that beauty is skin deep. "Who can define beauty? Beauty is about being human and loving yourself for what you are and who you are. We are not perfect beings; we are the way our creator deemed. All any of us want is to feel good about ourselves and look the best we can. I discovered in my life, that you are what you eat, and what you eat makes beauty better. Skin has a way of telling our secrets. If the skin is abused, it will tell a story simply by looking at it, no matter the pigmentation. Granted, we all are going to age as we take our journey through life, but why not better appreciate our bodies? We can age faster than ever if our skin is abused, through the likes of drugs, alcohol, tobacco, eating processed food, and overexposure to the sun. You can adjust your lifestyle to guard your beauty and keep your skin healthy. I am not an expert, but I am watching the changes in myself because I have rearranged some eating habits and skin regimens.

Tips: Wash your face with a non abrasive cleaner, pack your face with your favorite moisturizer and body. Drink glasses and glasses of water every day. If you smoke, try to cut down or just quit. If you drink, cutback. You will notice a big difference with the skin you're in.

Hello! My name is Daynha. I'm 59F. Rarely wear makeup, but want a dewy flushed look, is Jones Rd the miracle promised?

I'm so tired of buying the latest hyped products online - at full sizes- only to find out they don't quite live up, and go bad on my shelf.

Il Makiage is the perfect example. It was lighter than my skin tone, and very matte. My 5 day work weeks and social butterfly days are over, so full size bottles go bad.

Bobbi Brown is a known high-label brand. Jones Road is appealing to someone like me: very dry mature skin. But it's not available in stores (nice profit margin, BB) and for the price, it's a risk.

I'd love to have products for virtual meetings, and running to the store. A healthy day glow, to build upon with a shadow. I have medium olive skin, so those dark under eyebags really show up. And the over-45 invisible eyelid is a challenge.

Drugstore brands like E.L.F. are terrible for me. Pressed powder shadows, and blushes go everywhere, and sticks sink into my skin unevenly.

I've done a lot of reading on this thread, and all over Reddit. But I'm not satisfied with what I've read.

If any of you do use the products, what 4 would you recommend together? If not, what else do you use? I'd love to hear your thoughts.

IT CC Illumination application issues

I love this in theory for the SPF and the glide of it, but it always is either no coverage on my skin or caked up. Normally I put a pump on the backside of my hand and use one of the smaller brushes that came with my original order (a two sided one) to dab on my face in the most needed places. then I use a big flat head brush the smush it all around (sorry not a big makeup person). One pump is super sheer which is okay I guess, but two pumps turns into caked cement after finishing powder. Please help! 56 years old, only wrinkles are around my eyes.

Trying to help my mom with her make up

Hi, I originally posted this in r/ Makeup, but I wanted some advice from here as well.

Hi everyone, I'll try to keep this brief. My mom is in her 50's and has been really down on herself. Whenever she looks at a picture of herself, she makes remarks of her wrinkles and skin. She has neuropathy issues and has a hard time with doing makeup. As of lately, she's been trying to do her makeup again, she stopped doing it during covid and everything she had has gone bad.
My questions may lead to a lot of follow up questions, and I'm sorry, but how can I help her? What products does she need? She asked my sister-in-law for help and she's very unreliable and I don't wear make-up. How can I do a very basic look on her? Any tips and tricks? Any product recommendations?

My mom also has some acne scars on her face from when she was younger.
Again, I'm very sorry, but I'm forever grateful for whatever I can learn!

Maybelline perfector 4 in 1 question

I am trying the 4 in 1 which has cc cream, powder, concealer, and primer. I am not sure if I am using it correctly. I moisturize then apply this but it doesn't seem to conceal the eye bag dark circles?

Should I apply more concealer on top or foundation?

Thanks

What to buy if I rarely use makeup?

What makeup would you recommend to some one who only wears makeup maybe two or three times a year at most? It seems a waste to spend money on products that will go bad before I use them again. Are there brands that do trial sizes? Or is there a bare-bones regimen that will allow me to look more pulled together without a lot of individual products? I would love a simple strategy that someone who's not really gifted at makeup could do.

Moisturizer like Tatcha?

I love Tatcha's Dewy Skin Cream, but it's so very expensive. I do my best to only buy it on sale, but even then it's painful. One thing I love about it is that the hydration seems to last longer than others I've used. With other moisturizers, my face feels like it needs a reapplication perhaps midway through the day. Has anyone found anything comparable for a lower price? I'm mid-50's, and my main concerns are wrinkles & lines.

Wrinkle coverage

Hi all! I was blessed with beautiful skin until lately. I am over 50. I was not taking care of my skin. I worked in the sun alot. Didn't use any skin care for my face. I know what a moron. Now I have had a stressful couple years and it's showing. I have deep wrinkles under eyes, and a few on other places. I use primer, but maybe not good one. I would love to get a makeup tutorial on mature makeup, I've tried YouTube but they don't have my severe problems and skin tone. I'm at a loss. I don't know how to fix my makeup for this age. I need help

How do you keep track of your skincare rotation/cycling routine?

I have recently added a few more products to my skincare routine, and I am doing skin cycling. This means that I use a different serum every day, rotating between four products.
However, sometimes I forget which product I used last or which one I should use next. This makes me worry that I might mess up my cycle or use the wrong product for my skin condition.
Do any of you have this problem too? How do you solve it? Do you use any apps, calendars, stickers, or other methods to remember your skincare rotation?
I would appreciate any advice or suggestions. Thank you!

Semi sheer , dewy foundation bb or cc cream, tinted moisturizer w at least 35 sof / chemical sunscreen?

Hi. Ive tried the following:

  • it glow (empahasizes lines/texture somewhat)

  • Ilia (emphasizes even More than it glow)

skinceuticals uv fusion (highly recommended if you can handle physical sunscreen)

Bare complexion complexion rescue (love but was separating my last purchase and a little less moisturizing - thinking they must have changed formula - but also looking a little less coverage)

I use lancome renergie lift usually and like but would love something similar w less coverage.
