Spider-Man 4 to film this Fall with Justin Lin being eyed as possible director (Jeff Sneider)

That would be Spider-Man 4, which I’m told is supposed to begin shooting in either September or October. The problem with Spider-Man is that Sony still doesn’t have a director yet. I’ve heard Justin Lin was in contention at one point — and may still be — but he’s just one of the names I’ve heard and others are said to remain in the mix. I’m told that HBO really didn’t want to wait until next year to shoot Euphoria but with Zendaya locked into another Spider-Man movie this fall, the network didn’t have much of a choice, as they can’t shoot the show with its star, and Spidey is a long shoot.

I’m also told that Levinson was aware of Zendaya’s commitment to shoot Spider-Man this fall and that the two of them were always on the same page schedule-wise, so there’s no frustration there. Levinson preferred not to rush into production this spring as he needed more time to write and he’s been taking advantage of it. That said, he’s also on a shorter leash at HBO following The Idol, so there’s been more back-and-forth between him and the network given Euphoria’s transition from high school to early adulthood.

It wouldn’t shock me if Sony waited until CinemaCon in mid-April to make some kind of splashy announcement, be it about Spider-Man 4 or Quentin Tarantino’s The Movie Critic, which is fully expected to land at the Culver City studio, according to multiple sources. But for now, mum’s the word as Tom Rothman plots his next big move.

Look for Season 3 of Euphoria to begin shooting in early 2025. HBO could maybe get it out before the end of the year — depending on the episode count, which could be lower this season given the difficulty of scheduling all these stars — but HBO loves to premiere big shows in January, so the network could always hold it for the top of 2026.

Stay tuned, as I expect to hear more about this situation in the coming weeks, especially as the Euphoria stars rush to line up other projects for this summer.

    [Episode Discussions] X-Men '97 Season 1 - Episode 2: "Mutant Liberation Begins" - Wednesday, March 20th

X-Men '97 is an upcoming American animated television series created by Beau DeMayo for the streaming service Disney+, based on the Marvel Comics superhero team X-Men. It is a revival of X-Men: The Animated Series (1992–1997), continuing from where that series ends and showing the X-Men face dangerous new challenges following the loss of their leader, Professor X. X-Men '97 is produced by Marvel Studios Animation, with DeMayo serving as head writer and Jake Castorena as supervising director.

Several cast members return from the original series to reprise their roles or voice new characters, including Cal Dodd, Lenore Zann, George Buza, Catherine Disher, Chris Potter, Alison Sealy-Smith, Adrian Hough, Christopher Britton, Alyson Court, Lawrence Bayne, and Ron Rubin. The revival was first discussed in June 2019 and formally announced in November 2021; DeMayo and Castorena were involved by then. Chase Conley and Emi Yonemura also directed episodes. The series is the first X-Men project from Marvel Studios since the studio regained the film and television rights to the characters. Animation was provided by Studio Mir and is a modernized version of the original series' style.

The first two episodes of X-Men '97 are scheduled to premiere on March 20, 2024, with the remainder of the ten-episode first season releasing weekly until May 15. A second season is in development.
