    Is substrate needed for mantis?

I have a ghost, shield, and Ghanaian flower mantis that all have coco fiber as substrate. I’m wondering if I could just have no substrate that way I know when to clean the enclosure!

What to feed spiny flower mantis?

I’m going to start caring for a new mantis next month and was wondering if small mealworms or small crickets could work for feeding an i3 or i4 spiny flower mantis?

I also noticed my local pet store had flightless fruit flies but im worried my tongs would be too big to hold them or they’d jump out of my hands etc, and I want to use bugs that can be accessible for both my gecko and the mantis. Any suggestions? (I cant get grasshoppers sadly,,,)

Does/can eye-rub develop on one eye at a time?

This morning when I woke up I realised my mantis has a dark spot on one of his eyes. I assume it’s eye-rub? But can eye-rub develop extremely quickly? Because last night he was fine and the dark spot only appeared this morning

    found babies!

I found two babies in indianapolis, and i’m not sure what they are. I also don’t know exactly what they need in (separate) enclosures! I have them in tupperware with holes and fruit flies for the time being. thank you in advance for the ID and enclosure help!

    Need some help/advice.

So, I have a female pseudomantis albofimbriata that's mated and laid her first ootheca. But when will they hatch? Is it based on time? Like 2 - 3 months? Or is it based on the temperature? If so what temperature should I make the room? Also, will the female lay more oothecas? Her abdomen still looks a little plump and full, and she is very energetic. She grabs and eats the food I give her straight away. Also, what sort of things do mantises lay oothecas on? Right now I have some rocket growing inside her enclosure. Is that good? (She laid her first one in the top corner on the glass)

    food shopping

hullo! i’m trying to move up my I5 mantis to non fruit fly food.

i’m hoping to find some blue bottle flies or house flies for sale near me, but if i can’t is there a next best option? should i just get more fruit flies for now and order bigger flies online?

    thanks in advance! <3

Just got a new mantis <3

Just got my second ever mantis from a local pet shop! Ive fallen in love with her immediately. And yes shes named after ghost spider aka gwen stacy bc. i really love the spiderverse movies lol and thought it suited an orchid mantis!

I’m so excited to have her. She’s adorable. (Or he. In that case, I guess I’ll just change her name lol)

He is so still when he eats! Despite being a subadult, he generally refuses to sit still for more than a millisecond.

Housing smaller species in deli cups

Is it acceptable for a small species(for instance creobroter/other similar species) to keep them in deli cups even as adults?

Naturally, I would provide the needed ventilation and textil mesh lid at the top, also a few sticks and substrate to hold humidity. The cup would also be at about 14cm tall and space-wise I believe that's fine.

Still I'm not really confident if I should go with this choise, that's why I am asking you guys.

    Thanks in advance!

SPINY FLOWER MANTIS FEMALE FLAPPING HER WINGS

Has anyone breeder a spiny flower mantis female before. I saw she was flapping her wings and somebody said that because they are doing that that she was not able to maintain and blue over her wings which means that this is a bad sign that she cannot be able to lay the glue to make eggs I am wondering how true this is if somebody can help me
