Looking to play MTG

I live above the double midnight comics in Manchester and recently go into MTG since i moved here and needed a hobby outside of work. I do draft nights and have built a few decks, but find it difficult at times to find people to play with even though i frequent the store almost daily. I love deck building and would love to be able to actually use them and try things out (not just on arena). Interested in a commander group as well. If anyones ever at double midnight playin, let me know 🫡

Cost of Living

Hello everyone! I am a soon to be engineer graduate that just got a job offer in New Hampshire. This isn't my only option but after consideration of what I want in my career, I am fairly confident that I will take it. I am looking to move into Manchester as it seems to have the cheapest apartments that is still a drivable commute to where my job will be, so I wanted to get people's inputs on the cost of living around here.

It seems that getting a 1 bedroom apartment with the amities me and my GF want will run about 2k a month, but I wanted to get people's inputs on what the other costs of living I can expect. Specifically what are you guys paying for utilities? This is super hard to find online as all numbers are usually for single family homes, which obviously are way more expensive as far as utilities go than an apartment. Can anyone give some other rough numbers of what I can expect to pay to live there? I am 99% confident that the salary I was offered will be more than enough to live comfortably here, but I am not from the New England area so the high cost of living there is something I am a bit worried about and want to ensure I budget correctly for it.

Thank you to any comments ahead of time!

Anyone feel the ground shake circa 10:20?

Was that an Earthquake? Been so long I barely recall the sensation. But I’m here downtown and felt the building shake while my wife felt it over in Hooksett.

What is there to do

I'm from Orlando, FL, and I found cheap tickets to Manchester. Funny enough, I've never experienced temperatures below 32 or seen snow.
What do you guys recommend I do during my day and a half stay? Is there a pretty park or plaza worth visiting?

Customer Flower Bouquets?

My gf saves pictures of flower bouquets she likes to her Pinterest board. Does anyone know of a flower shop in southern NH that will do customer bouquets based off a photo? I want to get her a bouquet inspired by Pinterest. Thanks in advance!

MOMMY & ME SPA DAY

Hi y'all,

My 7 year old has been having a hard time with school recently and has been asking for a "girls day" which, in her little mind, consists of a spa day (to the extent a 7 year old's concept of a "spa day" is, anyway). Anyone have any suggestions of a place in or around Manchester?

Watch Recordings of Municipal Meetings (and more)

I was looking for a way to watch Manchester’s government meetings so I could put them on in the background while I do monotonous tasks. The cities YouTube channel doesn’t seem to have them (although they do have some cool videos like one on the Cemetery Brook Tunnel)

Just found this website that has them though. Doesn’t seem like a lot views on these so maybe everyone has another plug for theses or maybe they just have the pull I think they would.

Anyways if anyone is interested here’s the site

La Vaka Mexican in Goffstown is really excellent

Just wanted to give La Vaka a shoutout and encourage people to try it if you haven't. We found it randomly on google maps. I really want them to be successful so I can continue to eat there several times a week.

Everything I've eaten is excellent. HIghlights: Carnitas plate (pickled onions, grilled jalapeno), alambres, chilaquiles, al pastor, and their salsa verde on everything I've had it on. They're making fresh corn tortillas on a flattop in the middle of the restaurant. Lots of lunch options at $10 M-Sat which is nutty.

Consistently good service. Good drinks. Two big bars with TVs for sports. Nice decor. Someone tell me how they did all the custom art on the booth backs. Looks like it cost a bunch.

I think it's a pretty decent step up from the other Mexican sit-down restaurants in town in terms of food and authenticity and am just really happy they're here and wanted to share.

Will the ARMI grants cause a "boom" to Manchester?

The organization ARMI lead by Dean Kamin is receiving over 100 million dollars in grants to kind of transform Manchester into the kind of Silicon Valley of the East Coast. I dont see a lot of people talking about this. Do you guys think this will cause a boom to Manchester? Bring more life to it? Cause some serious construction like skyscrapers and what not? I know that you would need alot more than 100 mil to do this but I believe this is kind of like a domino effect kind of thing.

New Hampshire Fire Departments - MFD

I was wondering if there is anyone here who can give me some valuable info in regard to career departments in NH. Specifically Nashua or Manchester. I have no interest in Fire based EMS or transporting agencies. Things I’m curious about are how much work they do (Fire), schedules, culture, training, career advancement, reputation, and overall work life balance.

Background: 32 y/o m. Current career FF / AEMT with a large city in new England. “Disabled” Army vet with multiple combat deployments within Special Operations. I have a degree in fire science and currently working on a master in organizational leadership.

Thanks to any and all serious responses.

Home Tax Question 100% P&T Veteran

Morning folks,

I am "nearing" retirement age. I am originally from the New England area but not NH. We have a spreadsheet that we are using to determine the places we should visit prior to retirement to see if we fit in and love the area. That said, total cost of living is a large part of that. I have a few questions for anyone that may know if what I have researched is true.

I wanted to reach out as the Manchester, Nashua & Merrimack areas were ones we wanted to get to know. Is it true that NH has no state tax, does not tax social security and for a 100% permanent and totally disabled veteran, waives taxes on your home? Also, is it true that there is a VA hospital facility in Manchester? My wife is still working so has to travel from time to time but mostly work from home. How is the internet and the local regional airport in Manchester? Additionally, and I know this is a ton of questions, is flooding in the local area a real concern? I also read about a forever chemical dump in Merrimack… Click bait or a real concern for the area?

Appreciate everyone’s thoughts very much!

*Note... if there is a caveat to the 100% P&T home exemption if it is real pls let me know. Example: in Illinois a 100% P&T has 0 home tax if the homes equalized assessed value is even one penny below 750K but the moment it hits $750k or above you are on the hook for everything (about 18k yr) in home taxes. In AZ, where we are now, it is zero on your home but it is based on your income so unless your income is below the poverty line there is no exemption for 100% p&T Veterans.
