Question re Car/Driver/guide hires

I am visiting Malta for 10 days this winter (Feb 2025) as a solo traveller a bit over 70yrs old, I am seeking a reasonably priced option for one full day to visit the Unesco temples and archeological sites. Any suggestions? All I've found are for groups starting at $500US. I'm not American, just a slightly adventurous pensioner finally free to try and see as much of the world as I can manage while I still am able.

Local food recommendations

Hi Malta,

What would you absolutely recommend to eat on our 1st trip to Malta? We are staying in St Pauls Bay but of course plan to explore the Island in the 4 days we will be there.

Dietary restrictions we eat only halal meat otherwise no others :) also if you can list down any halal restaurants in Malta would be great to add to our list (local dishes or otherwise)

Looking forward to your recommendations :)

New Water Pump and Switch only kick in after 5/10 seconds

I recently installed a new water pump and switch in my house, but I’m encountering a problem I didn't have before. After venting all the air from the pipes by opening all the taps, I noticed a new issue: when I turn on the kitchen tap, the water pump pressure kicks in after a few seconds instead of immediately. This is also affecting other appliances, like the washing machine, which won’t get any water unless I run the tap for a while. I've picture a video to help illustrate the setup. Thank you for your time and assistance!

Obligations for a registered company

A few weeks ago I came across a gov.mt site where you could register a company, which will result in a VAT nr, company reg nr, and payee nr.

I was wondering if, once this is done, what would be my obligations with respect to taxes and documentation?

I intend to use it just for the occasional work I do for other businesses. I may invoice may be 1-10k EUR each but infrequent (think 2-5 invoices per year). I would use a simple accounting platform like Zoho or Xero for all expenses and invoices

Are there any resources where I can see a summary of the amount of work involved to see if I would I really need an accountant for such a small number of transactions?

why do we say "ġenju" for both genius and genie instead of having a separate word for genie such as "Ġin"

Edit: My question is why they didn't separate it in some way, I'm fully aware it's not the same thing as the Arabic version my example was just for example's sake

What is it like to live on the gozo island?

As a diver I am in love with gozo and I am thinking of living there. What are the pros and cons of living on gozo island?

I work remotely and have to go to MCAST 2/3 times to take classes for my master's degree. About my lifestyle, when I'm not working I'm at the beach/hiking and I don't have many friends here in Malta (unfortunately).

Online Purchase from Scan - Suspected Fraud

So I just put in an online purchase with Scan and the order status was changed to suspected fraud. Has anyone else had this happen to them. If yes, what do I need to do from my end. Apologies for the message but I am a bit worried since the money were taken from my account and it wasn’t a small sum (for me).

Appreciate your help :)

A few questions for people from the United States (or from a U.S. territory), what was the process in moving?

I (22MTF) am working towards leaving the territory I have lived in since I was born here. Currently, I have to clear some two fairly minor debts, after that? I will be ready to focus solely on moving.

Why do I plan to move to Malta, specifically? To be with my partner of eight months (26NB) and reside with her in her flat, also to overall to escape my present living situation, which is quite the nightmare. (High cost of living, discrimination, family issues, etc...)

Some of these may be rather "dumb" questions, but I never really knew how much went into leaving one's native country, nor how to actually proceed with it.

Now, here are my questions:

  • Where did you go about applying for a visa? Online or in person? Did you apply for a Visa before or after securing a job position?

  • What is the minimum (USD) that you recommend I set towards?

  • Besides a Visa and a passport, what other forms needed to be filled out? What else was required of you?

  • For those that took their belongings with them, what was that like? Were there any issues shipping?

  • And lastly (if other trans girls are on this subreddit), where did you go to continue (or start) HRT?

Thank you in advance, to those who take the time out of their day to have a look at this and answer.

Consult tax accountant/lawyer

I am not in Malta anymore, so it would have to be email. I'd like to verify if I can claim the full tax back as physically, I spent less than 6 months in the country, but I did spent 3 working remotely from abroad (out of UE) for a Maltese company. What is the best way to have the most reliable answer?

Official labour account replying to a picture Arnold Cassola uploaded on facebook of four dumpsters overflowing with garbage. These comments are lobbed at Cassola all the time, but I never expected an offical labour account to use such infantile and juvenile language.

Renting Car for 3-Day Trip?

Hi all! We'll be getting into Malta at 8pm on a Wednesday and leaving at 6pm on Saturday (basically 3 full days) in mid-November.

These threads have been wildly helpful - from what I've seen, 1/2 day in Valletta (or more, we'll be staying there), 1/2 day in the 3 Cities, a day in Gozo, and a day in Mdina.

I've read a lot about how great the public transport is, so I've been planning on that.

That said, I've been thinking more about that day in Gozo (we'll be meeting up with friends, but TBD where), and Mdina, and having flexibility. We have a ton of points so it's not a huge cost issue.

Would people recommend at least having the flexibility of a rental car?

For what it's worth, coming from the US (other side of the road), but very comfortable with city driving.

2 days in Malta in November - does it make any sense?

Hi,
I am considering spending 48 hours in Malta, from Wed night to Fri night, mid-November. I guess it's low season, and thus fewer people around. I am more interested in history and culture than beaches.
Any hints for nice activities? How's social life during on a random Wed or Thu night?

Loan finishing works

Hi everyone, we recently bought a property on plan and signed a finishing works contract with the seller. We also applied for a bank loan, and today, we received the sanction letter. However, during the explanation, the bank representative mentioned that the full amount specified in the appalt (works agreement) must be withdrawn without any changes.

When we initially discussed the agreement with the seller, we agreed that since all items were itemized, I could choose not to proceed with certain tasks. For instance, I can do some of the electrical work myself, and my brother can handle the tiling and plastering.

Now, I'm not sure what my options are since it seems I have to take the loan for the entire amount stated in the appalt. Has anyone experienced something similar? A friend suggested that one solution might be to bring in an architect once the apartment is finished to confirm the completion to the bank, which could help show that the remaining funds aren’t necessary. Any advice would be appreciated.

Igaming malta x gibraltar

Comparing igaming malta and Gibraltar, what do you think? For the perspective of a person like me, business administrator, euro citizen, no experience in igaming, where could be easier to get a job and start a career in igaming, malta or Gibraltar?

Anyone here had the experience working in both? What do you prefer?

Some people told me that Gibraltar has a smaller market compared to Malta, but the salary is better. And I could live in Spain (la línea) , cheaper than Malta. I see Malta overcrowded, I don't know, too much people.

Going to Malta and don't get a job in igaming would be terrible, need to work like a waiter or in a supermarket to get 800 euros pm.

Appreciate all insights

Civil Marriage in Malta

Hi everyone! My partner and I are both EU citizens (but not Maltese) and are considering getting married in Malta. We’re planning a simple civil ceremony, without any religious aspects or guests.

Could anyone explain the process for a civil marriage in Malta? Are there any official links or resources where we can learn more about the steps involved?

I also read that two witnesses are required for signing the marriage documents. Since we don’t want to involve friends or family in the ceremony, what are our options for witnesses?

Thank you in advance for any advice or information!
