Hello everyone!
I have been doping some research on African scripts and I have been doing a lot of reading about the Mwangwego Script, which was developed specifically for Malawian languages. It seems that this script has not gained widespread use so I wanted to know if anyone you all knew used the script in their day-to-day life? Or even if the script was being formally taught in any way.
Hi there, I am seeking information on the various solutions being employed by Malawians in their efforts for more Eco friendly business practices. I am mostly interested in the reuse of product containers through refill vending stations, product refills, package free shops and reuse advocacy groups.
So for example:
1.water bottling companies that offer reusable bottles for water dispensers(usually 18 litres to 20 litres)
Beer breweries that package the beer in glass bottles that are returnable to the brewery for refill after use
Cosmetics producers who have a refill option for their products( A good example is ENE Naturals..this is a Nigerian Company, another is Organic Savannah- a Kenyan company, Les Sens de Marrakech - Morocco and Nokware Skincare - Ghana)
Package free stores where customers can buy products that aren't packaged thus reducing waste created by throwing away packaging (examples are Good source- South Africa; Zero Waste Store - Namibia, Azikho - South Africa)
Restaurants and cafes that have reusable cup and container programs (I am yet to find any so far)
Wild life companies that offer their clients reusable bottles to be used during their trip for example The Safari Connection - Kenya and Wilderness Safaris - Namibia.
Non profit and Eco friendly advocacy organizations focusing on reuse of packaging (most are focused on recycling, reducing plastic waste or cleaning plastic waste) I am currently interested in those involved in re use advocacy.
Thank you all.
Hi everyone!
I’m an American traveling to Malawi in just a few days. I’m currently in Eastern Europe, and need to leave due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine so my friend invited me to stay with her in Malawi. This will be my first time on the African continent. Does anyone have any tips and tricks on how to navigate Malawi or any recommendations of things to do or see while I’m there?
Thank you in advance! I’m very excited to explore this country 🇲🇼
EDIT: Hi everyone! Thank you for all your help so far it’s been so so helpful. It’s been a great time exploring your beautiful country. My friend had a little bit of a niche question. She was wondering where she could find a chitenje patterned bucket hat. Thanks for your help again!
I am curious to know about this UNICAF University in Malawi. Is it legit or a scam? They claim to offer partial scholarships and have intakes every month for undergrad.
My church congregation is doing a gift exchange for Christmas and I was given the name of a recent immigrant from Malawi. He’s relatively new to our congregation and isn’t able to leave work very often to meet with us, so I don’t know very much about him. I was thinking that he might like a gift that would remind him of home. Any gift ideas for a 63yo man from Malawi?

Hey y’all!
I’m doing a university project that collects information from countries all over the world to create an educational videogame Wario Ware style! The idea is to collect through many local subreddits around the word interesting information, facts, traditions or just fascinating stuff from your country. It really can be whatever! from history stuff, manners, toys to food dishes. Real cultural information that is deeper than typical trivia found on traveling and touristic websites.
All that info is going to be used to create the questions for the videogame quiz system! Hope it inspire you to let us know your culture and make the game richer. Many many thanks for your help! :)
Hi! I am doing some research on Malawi and had some questions about the culture in Malawi
I find cuisines from cultures all around the world really interesting, and was wondering...
I understand that in many cultures crafts and art are very meaningful, I am curious as to if there are artworks and crafts that are important to Malawian culture and who in the community makes them?
I notice that clothing can also be a very meaningful piece of culture. I researched traditional Malawian clothing and found that the women of Malawi wear a skirt called Chitenje...
Thank you so much for your help!
I am a white boy from Canada and have a deep interest in Africa and Malawi, do you think it would be worth learning Chewa for fun or if I want to go to Malawi someday?
Am looking to get a used car and the one I have found is a hybrid car, Toyota Aqua. Has anyone on here had this car? My biggest fear is replacing the battery if needed. Does the car stop running when the battery is no longer working or you simply switch to fuel? Getting conflicting information online.
He sacked some members of his own government for corruption and inaugurated the upgrading of a main road in the capital. But what do you guys think?
