Special Consideration for Group Assignments

Hey there 👋🏼

If I apply for special consideration for a group assignment, will it only cover me or will the whole assessment be extended for the whole group? Or should we all be submitting a request?

TIA!!

Changing Specialization from Master of It in Ai to just master of it,without any specialization

So, i had my non Cs engineering degree but have been working as software dev for two years. I have been accpeted in the uni. Alhtough i have applied and have been accpted to master of IT in AI, i now see uni provides a masters degree in IT without any specialization, which allows students to take courses from cyber security, enterprise software dev and AI. I feel like I could explore masters and not take any specialization, Is that possible after arriving to macquarie in FEB ?

special consideration for future exams

so my exams start next week, but i've been feeling unwell over the past few days and suspect it will only get worse from now...in terms of applying for special consideration, do i need to sit all my exams and then apply once they are over? or should i apply for now, say that my illness is ongoing and developing and not sit the exams whilst waiting for the outcome?

Is there a limit on how many first year units you can do?

I remember reading somewhere that for Medical Science you can only have so many 1000 level units. But I can't find it anywhere now so I question whether I was dreaming.

Fucking bin chickens

Guys istg can the uni do anything about the bin chickens on campus? The amount of times ive been terrorized by them just flying up my table and snatching my food before I even had a bite is insane that it's literally driving me insane.

I remember my first among many encounter with them was when they just straight up flew to my table and stole my fried chicken. Literally beak in the bucket and took more than one. That's fucking cannibalism and just firther proves that they're pure evil. They took more than one piece of chicken from me btw and hard the nerve to peck at my hand when I tried shooing them away.

Just today I witnessed another one of those fuckers just fly up to this poor girl and stole her snack pack from iguana and it's just completely ruined. She hasnt even gone half way through her meal and its devastating.

Im genuinely pissed here. Cant the uni do anything about it? Because it's so annoying and genuinely costs us our money. Losing 20 bucks for a chicken swooping up to your table and gobbling up your shit is insane. And that happening more than once a week is diabolical. I cant have a proper meal in the courtyard without literally fearing them.

Every time I stay out there with or without food I always keep my guard up because they sometimes come up and just put their stupid ass beaks in my bag and almost took my apple pencil once.

Is there some legal thing preventing the uni from relocating the birds to a different area? Theyre out here stealing our shit while they dont even pay for rent or tuition staying on the uni grounds while they shit on our benches too.

Im genuinely losing it y'all.

Edit: did some quick google search about bin chickens in general and found out you need a permit to kill ibises but don't need one for cooking them?? Im an international student and it's the first time I'm hearing about these. And why would one eat the bird when theyre known for eating stuff out of the bin??

Engineering Teaching Experience

I’m someone coming from WSU, where a previous course work I did related to engineering was achieved. Overall their teaching culture felt right, where they had actual classes to properly teach their content unlike UNSW’s experience with the reliance on self teaching and lacklustre efforts to properly structure their courses from semesters to trimesters still being outdated, to having 2 hours of lecture yet 1 hour of classes.

I’ve been considering MQ, where a friend came from WSU (same course work) saying their experience is generally better and if picking from the two, would go for MQ to continue their work.

I’m just curious about what the teaching culture is like? I’m planning on either WSU or MQ but need more knowledge of the latter. Is the lecture to class ratio good in terms of hours? Do the teachers actually teach or do you need to constantly self teach, and how good is the workload?

CC twin room question

Hi! I’ll be moving into a twin room in CC accomm next year, how is the process for getting assigned a roommate? Is it randomly selected? I think it will be another first year student right? And will it be the same gender, and is domestic & int together? Will I know beforehand who it is or not until I get there? Can’t find on the website. Thanksss!

Some questions about course transfer

I am currently doing a double degree with engineering and IT and I want to transfer to a purely IT course. I have checked the requirements and I'm pretty sure I'm eligible but I'm a bit confused about a few things.

  1. Do I have to wait until I have my results for this semester before I can submit a transfer form and what is the deadline for the form?

  2. One of the fields in the course transfer form is a non-mandatory field called "Faculty emails and advising notes (attachment)". I was wondering what this means exactly and if I don't fill that field out, will it make it less likely for my form to be approved?

Thanks

Can anyone guide me onto how the sports scholar program works, as if in what are the benefits and compromises. Also, if international students are eligible for it?

SRS vs Leaders and Achievers

hello everyone, i got into two different courses each time for both the leaders and achievers program in august i think and also the schools recommendation scheme yesterday. for leaders and achievers i got an unconditional offer for a course that has a higher atar requirement but I would prefer to do the srs one which is lower atar, since its 3 years and i think i would prefer to not spend an extra year in uni.

my question is what i should do? as apparently macquarie lets you transfer to a lower atar course if the content is similar or sm (they are), so since im already in a higher atar course from leaders and achievers, hopefully i dont need to move my srs offer to first preference. that means i can keep other preferences from other unis (sorry) in higher priorities just in case i get them. i hope this makes sense thanks in advance.

Edit: I just spoke to the uni and they gave me course transfer requirements for my particular course so if you have a similar situation its probably best to ask them. thanks anyways

Accepted an offer but won’t study there anymore

Hello I accepted an offer from MQ but now I received another offer from another uni that I prefer more. I didn’t enrol into any subjects, do I have to do anything or let the uni know that I won’t be studying there anymore?

OMG I AM IN!!!!!!!!! (I think?)

Got this email this afternoon about the SRS scheme. When they say your "offer" will be sent to you by the 8th of Nov, is this basically telling me that my offer is unconditional? Can I place it as my first UAC preference and bomb the rest of my HSC?

Special Consideration denied despite providing enough evidence

I am appalled by the special consideration procedure. I have applied for a special consideration twice this week and each time I apply they denied me and tell me to reapply with different evidence - contradicting what they had previously told me.

For context I have been extremely unwell for a month now. It is currently less than 4 days until I have an assignment due and I am currently sick with two different illnesses and I am experiencing an exacerbation of my chronic condition (all of which have been diagnosed by drs). When my chronic condition gets bad I get lightheaded, dizzy, blurred vision, headaches, extreme noise sensitivity, nausea, no concentration, ect. This has greatly impacted my study.

I submitted my first special consideration with a medical certificate (from this week) which detailed this along with some other evidence (including a referral to my neurologist to discuss my chronic condition). I also mentioned that I am on placement and had to miss some days due to illness- I will have to make up these days next week to meet the required amount of days. They denied my request due to me not including proof that my placement was extended. They told me to do a new special consideration with this evidence.

I did the second special consideration with all my original evidence of illness/chronic condition + evidence that my placement was extended (aka everything they asked me to do). Now this special consideration was denied because ‘I don’t have enough evidence to state that these illnesses impacted me during the critical study period (aka this week)’. I can’t believe this, I have both a medical certificate from this week and a neurologist referral from this week. They never said I needed more evidence that I was unwell the first time I got denied, and I believe I have supplied more than enough proof.

This has been such a horrible experience for me. I’ve had to book it another drs appt to get yet another medical certificate which is leaving me out of pocket because I’m already on placement and can’t work to get the money. I’ve already had four doctors appts this month because of how unwell I have been.

Does anyone have any advice on what to do. Should I submit a complaint?

Schools Recommendation Scheme

I got an email this afternoon saying that I'm eligible for law through the schools recommendation scheme :) ! Does this mean that its guaranteed just as long as I have it as my number 1 preference for UAC then they give me a formal offer on the 8th?

can i do a masters of teaching on top of my bachelor in psych?

helloooo, so title says it all- i am in my last (3rd) year of a bachelor of psychology at macquarie (i chose not to proceed with the optional honours year)

after a conversation with a colleague i’ve just found myself wondering if it would be possible for me to become a primary school teacher with ONLY my Bachelor of Psychology and some sort of Masters of Teaching on top?

sorry i am not sure of the different Masters degrees for teaching. additionally i am not fussed on completing the Masters at Macquarie specifically, just asking here as I am a current student. Thank you so much!!

Session 3 Online

Hi all. Just wondering if we are able to take a unit or two during session 3 online? Or are we required to attend campus. I’m curious as I will be able to get my degree done on time if I consider undertaking a couple units during session 3 either this year or next year. Thanks!
