Visiting MTU with my high school son this weekend. Neither of us have ever been to MTU. Coming from the greater Grand Rapids, MI area. What’s the best roads to take given we’re now into winter?
Also seeking advice on what to see and do on campus and around town as he figures out if Tech is where he wants to spend the next 4-5 years.
Thanks in advance. :)
I am debating on leaving either Sunday or Monday. The weather condition between Munising and Marquette is quite bad. Are there any road icing? How bad are the road condition? Any other detour route?
Anyone want to add to or share a promo code for Mnt Bohemia?
M.S. Plan 1(thesis) and Plan 2(project or exam) which one is better?
Hey everyone, I am currently planning to apply for the M.S. CS program and confused as to what should I opt for, plan 1 or plan 2? What are the pros and cons of selecting either of them? Can you please also tell the on campus internship situation? Statistics on it will help a lot.
I am working on a project for class where I am talking about how students use school websites and social media to make major decisions
What do you guys think of Tech's website, is it helpful? Is there anything that needs to be improved?
Also if you have time, what do you think of the schools use of social media?
Hey is anyone leaving from the Birch Run area and heading back to Houghton this week? I need a ride back up and will pay for gas
I got caught plagiarizing off a buddy of mine for an assignment and I have an academic meeting next week. What are the odds I get suspended? The letter I got says the punishment can range from a written warning to conduct suspension. It’s a first time offense and I’m going to own up to it so hopefully the guy I copied doesn’t get in trouble but I’m fearing the worst. Thought?
I was wondering what everyone thinks is the best HAAS Elective.
Worked last time I had it out. Ok to test 1st.
Hello,
My roommate (F) and I (M) are looking for two additional roommates to fill a 4-bed, 1-bath apartment located in downtown Houghton right on Shelden Ave. Rent is $655 each with heat, AC, water, trash, and electricity included. Internet is an additional expense as well as parking which is through the city of Houghton. The apartment features high ceilings, a living room, a spacious kitchen/dining area, a private washer and dryer, and convenient storage for bikes/tires/etc.
The lease is for 5/8/25-5/6/26 through Bradway. One or two of my current roommates are moving out at the end of this Fall'24 semester, so you also have the opportunity to sublease from one of them as early as about 1/1/25.
Please send me a message if you're interested. I can provide pictures of the apartment and any additional information at request. A tour of the apartment can also be arranged.
Thanks!
Just went to my first tech game and they do this hand thing after the other team gets a penalty where their hands are out palm down and then they go up and down with their hands and pump there fists, what’s that about?
I am subleasing my apartment over this Summer to whoever needs it. Feel free to contact me to ask about prices because I'm open to any offers. It's a Holiday apartment that received new paint this year too, and it's in fantastic condition compared to the water damage roulette in Houghton when looking for a place. $300-600 per month, idk yet. Text me at 586-604-2208 or email cdapfel@mtu.edu . Ask me for pictures too!
I'm going to be graduating after Fall 2025, but I'm not sure what the housing for one semester is like. I've been told that upper level forestry students often sublet for that semester, since they are off at a camp or something, but I do not know any forestry majors. Does anyone have any information on options for this kind of housing?
Students and staff are welcome to come talk about the election, learn about the elections process, and discuss concerns for the future!
I am a guest student who is going to take CM2110 asynchronous online over the summer. I am wondering how hard it is and if exams/quizzes are proctored? Does anyone have any experience with the class?
I’m excited to have been accepted as an undergraduate for Fall 2025 in the Mechanical Engineering program at Michigan Tech. I’m reaching out because I have some concerns about my academic preparation and would like advice.
I decided to pursue Mechanical Engineering after my senior year of high school started, so I wasn’t able to take pre-calculus or advanced science classes like AP Physics or Chemistry. My high school counselor mentioned that I might be behind for college-level math and science courses, and I want to ensure that I’m as prepared as possible to succeed in your program.
I’m considering a few options:
1:Taking summer courses for credit and preparation. 2:Spending a year at a community college to build a stronger foundation before transferring. 3:Enrolling as planned and catching up on prerequisites during my first year at Michigan Tech.
I’d love to hear advice on which option might be best for success in the Mechanical Engineering program.
Hey all. As the title says, has anyone taken HU3621 Intro to Journalism with Seigel? How was it, and would you recommend it? I heard from one friend that he thinks it’s going to be an easy A, but hasn’t taken it yet.
Hi, I'm considering staying in either the new Elements 1 or Elements 3 (former Hillcrest) Apartments behind Wads. Just looking to hear people's opinions who have stayed there. Are these buildings relatively quiet? Did the maintenance people respond quickly to problems? Any pros/cons worth mentioning?
Hi, everyone, and thank you in advance for taking my suggestion seriously. I was reflecting on my time at MTU recently, and I was thinking about the advice that I would have given to myself if I had the opportunity to meet my former self.
Because of that, I had the idea that it may be a good idea to write a letter to the current student that occupies the dorm room that I once attended, and that perhaps many of us could do that.
Maybe we could make it a tradition to send words of encouragement to those who come after us? I know that my first few years as Tech, I struggled with self motivation, and had I known that there were generations before me rooting me on, I would have felt far more at peace.
Well, thanks for your consideration.
I'm sure multiple of these have been posted here but I thought I'd make one myself 😂.
I'm an out of state student applying to MTU for fall '25
I have a 3.7 gpa, 1250 sat, and I'd be 3rd generation in my family to attend (father and grandfather both graduated from MTU). I have a weird gut feeling/nerves that I won't get in. On paper this is irrational but I want some input from others who are already accepted. I'm applying to major in general physics. I have taken dual enrollment courses for physics credits and maxed out my other sciences in highschool, idk I'd that would affect my application but I thought I'd include that aswell lol
PM if interested.
$430/month
5mins walk to campus.
Two rooms open starting January 1st 2025, with an opportunity to sign onto the lease for the following school year only if you take the sublease for spring semester 2025.
If you lost your car keys for a Subaru a few days ago they are in the libray.
Do transfer students ever rush fraternities or only freshman? I’m transferring from Michigan Sate next fall as a third year student and I’m curious.
I’m currently looking for a ride home sometime after Wednesday this week if anyone is traveling to the Lansing/Clio/Flint areas. I will help with gas and bridge fees :)
