Cardhoarder MTGO Beginner's Guide
/r/MTGO
I casted Encore in my graveyard and the game just put Fathom into Exile and Effect where it sacrifice it. Nothing happened I had like 25 artifacts but simple doesn't work. I've tried to cast in my attacker step but it doesn't work because it says cast as sorcery. The game don't create the tokens. What am I doing wrong? it's literally the finisher of my deck and I can't use it properly.
I am in a place where I don’t have the time or ability to make it to my local LCS unfortunately. Are there any groups that play 4 man CEDH on MTGO? I would also be interested in playing in tournaments as well if those are available.
I can't find this card on any of the MTGO bots.

Does anyone have this card for trade, or know of a more active MTGO trading forum where I could buy this from another person? I did check Cardhoarder and they didn't have it for sale either.

Disclaimer this is regarding OPEN PLAY, but I'm sure people will still ignore this and respond as if I'm playing a league match.
Just curious to know where you guys stand on people conceding in open play, sometimes I find it quite jarring and annoying when people concede like turn 2-3 in open play because I got some kind of head start, I understand the opponent not wanting to play anymore but it's quite frustrating when you're trying to play your deck and practice it or try something new and sometimes 3-4 games in a row you don't ever really get to play magic because your opponent is conceding the moment they start to lose, like that's also not very fun
context: i earn (monthly) 830 of my currency
1 dollar = 6 of my currency
10 tix to play the pauper league = 60 of my currency (if 1 tix is 1 dollar, which I think it is? I'm a newcomer to mtgo)
local card shop pauper league = 20 of my currency
so playing pauper on mtgo is 3x the price of playing irl, which is a bummer (and 60 of my currency considering my income is incredibly expensive for an online game, I can get a month of WoW play time for 40, a month of runescape for 28, same for FFXIV so 10 dollars to play seems just ridiculous considering it's an online game where you don't need to upkeep a physical place)
is there any way to get tix for a lower price so I can play? or play without spending money at all (aside from 5$ upgrade kit) that is not only practice against others? about the decks, it seems the one I want to use is 2$ (12 of my currency) to rent, so I think in that department it will be fine
or maybe even a way to pay with my currency for cheaper, like most other games do, so I don't pay 1/4 of a AAA game to play 5 matches of magic
anyway, thanks for any response that is at least polite, I know wrapping heads around people with poorer conditions is hard (at least in my reddit experience)
Hi guys, any advice on how I can build this the best? I feel like it has a ton of potential, but I have never played this style of deck in cube before.
How many lands should I aim for considering all of the ramp I have?
I'm not big into MTGO, but for the last week I've been grinding Duel Commander leagues and ended up with 40+ QPs. The season ends on 27th, but there doesn't seem to be any Qualifiers left. Is that right? Are QPs awarded for the rest of the season just useless?
I have not played this game for months because my issue requests keep getting deleted. I need to turn on 2fa to reset my email because it is inactive and my favorite card answer has changed or been forgotten. What is the time frame I need to respond by before my requests become void? I had even provided financial proof on my identity but the issue may have closed in the time frame I did not respond in.
It takes seven days before an issue closes and they do not check if the issue is resolved before closure. Very responsible, just close the ticket issue without resolution. Please why don't you reduce my response time if you didn't want to even do the work to resolve my issue? Did they want to solve the issue or just close the ticket? Daybreak games doesn't have to solve any issues if you make people quit playing the game you manage.
Anyone know if they’re going to make QPs usable for vintage cube again? Or really anything other than big tournaments? I can never play those for family reasons and would love to get some value out of the 112 points I have at the moment.
Did anyone donate to the extra life stream today? Have you gotten your rewards? Hoping to have that Mox Diamond avatar but haven’t received anything yet.
This is a basic guide to drafting/playing sealed economically on the MTGO platform.
Let's start with basic knowledge about the in-game currencies and the botting system.
There are two forms of currency in-game (excluding packs): Play Points and Event Tickets. Event tickets are highly versatile, and can be used for most things on the MTGO platform. You can trade them for cards or enter events with them, but the latter is not advised.
Play points are accumulated through playing events and by opening treasure chest boosters. At the start of a set, entering events with playpoints is most likely the cheapest way to play. At the end of the set, entering with packs and a couple event tickets is probably the cheapest way to play.
Bots are the most common way to trade on the platform. Find a reliable set of bots (I use cardhoarder and goatbots) to do your trading. Partial trades, which split up even ticket value, are saved by these bots.
Unless you go infinite with Play Points and do not need to purchase any currency to play events, you will need to figure out a way to get into events. If you have $30-$40 to drop, the best way to do this is to purchase a high value preconstructed deck and trade it to a bot for either event tickets or treasure chest booster packs. Goatbots has a page on their site that shows you how many event tickets they will trade for that specific card list from the preconstructed deck. Google it. The highest proportional value commander decks are at the top of the commander list. The commander decks are worth more than the bundles (usually), so scroll down on the page until you hit the commander decks.
Treasure chest boosters basically operate by giving you some cards and some play points when opened. Goatbots also has a page about this on their site. Google it. Unlike most forms of gambling, the EV (Expected value) of a treasure chest booster pack is actually higher than the event tickets used to purchase the boosters from bots, if you intend to play events. Trade the cards you obtain from the treasure chest boosters for more treasure chest boosters. I would stay away from treasure chest boosters if you have a gambling addiction. I do, and although I generated $900 in Play Points from $350 Commander Decks, I spent way too much money to begin with.
The second best way to enter events, which is better towards the end of a set being played, is to use packs and event tickets to enter events. Do not purchase packs from the shop, trade event tickets for packs because they are much cheaper from bots than from the shop.
TDLR: Buy a high value commander deck -> trade them to reliable bot network (I use goatbots) -> trade for event tickets or treasure chest boosters -> if you didn't purchase treasure chest boosters, buy 3 or 6 packs at a time to enter draft or sealed, respectively.
I hope that helps. Have fun in drafting and sealed.
Hi everyone!
My absolute favorite way to play Magic is limited and often times I am able to complete a set due to the sheet volume of what I draft. With six standard sets coming down the pipeline, I don't know that I can afford paper drafting at my LGS at a high frequency ($20 USD per draft with prize support). I'm wondering if MTGO will be more financially tenable in the coming year(s). With that in mind:
- Does MTGO plan on offering set redemption for draftable UB sets?
- When a new set drops on MTGO, is the previous set no longer draftable?
- In order to complete a set of FDN, what cards need to be collected? 281 (reprints + new cards)? Or do I need +10 for the full art lands? Or do I need +78 for the beginner box? Or do I need +163 for the starter collection? All those parts have the FDN code and set symbol, so I don't know what all I need for set redemption.
Thanks for your time!
Hey all? So I have a secret santa gift to give and my friend cube drafts alot, is it possible to put the credit on his account?.
I'm playing Rakdos and that Boros Energy deck kills me every time. What red black cards can I sideboard in VS those stupid cats and Phlage?
I didn’t take a pic of the chat log most likely cause I was so upset, but I ran into this person on Tournament Practice who said “you must be young” and said I was “immature” for talking to him about my deck strategy and what it’s good against.
He said that I shouldn’t be giving away my strategy and that’s why I’m immature, but I was just infuriated cause like it’s just practice, you don’t win anything. Like anytime you are practicing magic whether it’s kitchen table magic or in a serious/higher level setting you will know the persons strategy.
Like obviously in a tournament setting I wouldn’t do that, I just treat these practice matches as a learning experience and theory crafting testing ground.
I’ve queued for 60 mins twice and I can’t even find a single game, what can I do?
I'm playing a new EDH deck built around opponents choosing, with cards like [[Sadistic Shell Game]], however with all of these cards I can't see any way to know what my opponents have chosen.
Am I missing something, or is this how these cards are supposed to function?

I took a long hiatus from MTGO due to lots of personal issues. After several small miracles (that's enough for it's own post), I was able to get back into one of my favorite accounts. After about three weeks of almost daily playing at least three games per day, I'm embarrassed to admit this, I won my first game! It happened this morning against a person who, unfortunately for him, had severe mana drought (one card the entire game). He was only able to get out one creature. Even though I had loads of mana, and a few creatures, he was still able to keep me at bay for about 10 rounds before he conceded. It was not pretty, but a win is a win--especially when you haven't won a single game in years.
Looking for a way to manage the cards I have in my collection and build deck out of them without being on mtgo. I got the account upgrade kit, and the commander workshop bundle, and was wanting the build decks out of the cards from that, preferably on my phone.
Is there a collection manager that will let me build a deck from those cards and let me import the list into online?
Hi all I just got into the game and want to know if it’s smart to wait for foundation to come out to spend my wildcards on a budget standard deck. The breakdown of my wildcards is something like 28, 14, 9 and 3.
I’m a little confused on how rotation works and I don’t want to wait my starter wildcards.
Thanks all :)
EDIT: Thanks all for letting me know I’m in the wrong sub. I didn’t know there were two magic onlines… is there a reason for that? Should I be playing one or the other?
