Anything and everything to do with the MSX series of personal computers and related video games.
MSX is the name of a standardized home computer architecture, first announced by Microsoft on June 16, 1983, conceived by Kazuhiko Nishi, then Vice-president at Microsoft Japan and Director at ASCII Corporation. It is said that Microsoft led the project as an attempt to create unified standards among hardware makers.
Before Nintendo entered the console market, MSX was the platform for which major Japanese game studios, such as Konami and Hudson Soft, produced video game titles.

I'm interested in playing metal gear/2, however in addition to not wanting to pay 100-200$ for a cart, I'd rather play a fan translation that I can actually understand.
Given that, if I have a rom originally played on cartridge, can I just put it on a floppy and run it? (Or tape or something), or is that not feasible due to memory restrictions or otherwise, in which case, how would I want to go about running it?
I have no msx yet, so if the answer depends on models, then I'd be interested in that.
Hello, I'm new to MSX and I have this question, I wanted to know if there is any way to open COMMAND through BASIC. But I don't know if this is really possible, but if someone can help me, so please help me. And that's it and Thanks! :)
hey folks, i came across msx computers about a year ago on r/cassettefuturism and since then have wanted to either find or make a keyboard that either literally is an msx computer that i can use as one or is just the same in appearance but works as a modern usb keyboard, any help appreciated
Just curious, because I seem to remember some game disk to cart conversions on MSX2.
I finally got round to resurrecting this Mitsubishi MSX ML-F80 machine. It's been sitting idle in my garage since I bought it at a junk sale 14 years ago for €5. After cleaning it inspecting the power supply and motherboard I switched it on and it fired up without and hitches or glitches.
The question is what to do with it. I have this ambition to learn Z80 machine code. Can anyone recommend any good resources for the MSX?
How much I played with it as a "kid". Colorful, well animated, fast, playable. The opening music with a sunset in the background (the MSX seemed to emulate the copper effect of the Amiga) and the prelude scene with the quick princess by the Evil Lord. The game was perhaps not very varied (platforms and length of the limited horizontal scrolling scheme) but there were often new enemies. Furthermore, various objects could be collected, even after finding the one that was needed to move on to the next stage. The final battle with the same music as the princess' kidnapping. In those days it could almost have been such a coin-op. Even now I play it every now and then (emulated, although I also have a perfectly functional Msx Sanyo MPC-100). I loved the Japanese style MSX games but this one had a lot of nice touches too.
Greetings,
When I was a kid, I remember I had "The Castle" game that was actually in English. That is, when you rescue the Fairy it actually shows English text. Alas, I am living in different country and I don't think I will have the cartridge again.
More than likely, it was a European version similar to the one in this post:

The question is, does anyone know if there is a ROM that has the English text for this game or "Castle Excellent"? I have the "MSX Complete TOSEC (2019-12-24)" and while there are multiple versions, none of them is actually in English.
I am working on building the Omega MSX clone, but ran into a problem. When I turn it on, I get nothing on the screen. When doing some digging, it looks like I have no clock signal. I am guessing that the 9958 must be working/legit to have a clock signal. Or will I see a clock coming from the crystal even without a working chip?
I played this game nearly 40 years ago. Each level is a room. You move a car around. The car can move laterally. It can go up levels using an elevator but once you have used that elevator, it doesn't go back down. So, you need to effectively plan your way around. The purpose of the game is to diffuse / disarm the timed explosives. Once you have diffused / disarmed them all, you proceed to the next level.
It was one of my favourite games I played on MSX and I have been trying to find it but to no avail.
I had not seen this one before. Thought it belongs here. Enjoy crazy Japanese camp.

All the joystick adapters listed as DIY while showing photos of fully assembled products. When asked, AliExpress sellers simply answer 这个就是一个芯片 (it's a chip). Can someone confirm if they bought one? Thanks in advance.
Hey MSX fans! 🎮
I recently took a stroll down memory lane and remembered an MSX game I used to play called American Truck. It’s a top-down game where you play as a truck driver, but here’s the twist—it happened in Japan!
I clearly remember something like "APPROACHING AOMORI" popping up on the screen as you delivered goods, navigating through various obstacles and traffic. The thing is, the only version I can find anywhere is also called American Truck, but it’s set in the USA instead of Japan.
Does anyone else remember this version of the game? Was it a regional variation or maybe a lesser-known adaptation? Let’s crack this mystery together!
Thanks a lot for any hint!
I’ve always wanted to play Illusion city. I love Snatcher, Policenauts, Shadowrun… I’ve always wanted to play it and now the translation is done. Is there a reputable seller for MSX hardware? Or am I better off buying from yahoo auctions? I’m in the United States.
I’ve been reading and watching some YouTube’s on what to look out for. But I’d appreciate any advice I can gather and learn. Thank you!
The first paragraph will be my background. This can be skipped because it just provides additional context about why I know and don't know certain things.
I know barely anything about programming. I started when I was seven with HTML. I have always had an interest in 8-bit computers. This interest started because I enjoyed watching the-8-bit guy on youtube when I was young. Due to personal reasons; I ended up abandoning coding at age 9. The in-between years were about me trying to begin with unity and UE and C and Python and JS. None of them sticked because I have mostly lost my passion. I am fourteen now and my favorite computer is the PC-98. I was going to learn how to code for that but it seems that there are no recourses about the PC-98 coding scene online so I couldn't learn. This made me choose my second favorite; the MSX2.
The thing is most resources I have found explain about MSX1 coding. I am mostly interested in the MSX2 (I have heard there are others but I don't know about them. If someone could link something explaining that; that'd be great). Would my education in MSX1 which I am; if applicable about to start or would the information be obsolete. I am planning to learn assembly as that would be a fun challenge I think. If it is not applicable, are there any resources that teach MSX2 programming? Also, where would I find an MSX2 emulator that let's me code with machine code?
MSXPen - MSX Developer Playground & Code Editor in the Browser I have found this but I don't know if it is for MSX2.
If I understand the whole MSX thing wrong; please tell me.
Thank you for responding if you choose to respond.
Hello there.
Does anyone know if there is a wiring diagram for the MSX mentioned somewhere? I'm having problems with the image output.
the characters are big and you walk across infernal rooms in search of itens. The graphics are not cartoonish.
