Anything and everything to do with the MSX series of personal computers and related video games.
MSX is the name of a standardized home computer architecture, first announced by Microsoft on June 16, 1983, conceived by Kazuhiko Nishi, then Vice-president at Microsoft Japan and Director at ASCII Corporation. It is said that Microsoft led the project as an attempt to create unified standards among hardware makers.
Before Nintendo entered the console market, MSX was the platform for which major Japanese game studios, such as Konami and Hudson Soft, produced video game titles.

Hi everyone,
I'm excited to share that a new emulator called iMSX2 is now available on the Apple Store!
This emulator allows you to run MSX and MSX2 cartridge ROMs directly on your iPhone.
https://apps.apple.com/us/app/imsx2/id6499231192
The emulator, named iMSX2, allows users to run their own programs written in BASIC and play classic MSX and MSX2 cartridge games directly on their iPhones. Built from c-bios, iMSX2 supports a variety of ROM configurations, including "Normal," "Type K," "Type K SCC," "Type ASC16," "Type ASC16 SRAM," "Type ASC8," and "Type ASC8 SRAM." This feature ensures a wide compatibility with different game formats and types.
iMSX2 is designed to bring the nostalgia of MSX gaming to modern devices, providing a seamless and user-friendly experience. We have plans to add more features and enhancements in future updates, making it an even more robust tool for retro gaming enthusiasts.
You can find iMSX2 on the Apple Store now.
I'd love to hear your thoughts and experiences with it!
Cheers,
E7 Company
Could it be switched out and was this something users did back in the day? Or did people just eventually buy the Turbo R instead?
does anyone here have experience connecting a MSX to a CRT?
I am new to this beauty, but I tried it tonight first tome and initially it worked with my Sony PVM (via a BNC adapter). However, the operation has become intermittent and now neither video nor audio is displayed... I am concerned that there may have been something wrong with the cable connection. Initially I thought it was some sync issue, but since at some point it worked perfectly fine I’m not sure…
I used a JP RGB 21-pin cable that I purchased last week and connected it to my CRT TV from 21-pin via a SCART adapter and then from SCART to BNC.
Now that it no longer works, I thought I might need to use the a RGB SCART cable directly instead of the 21-pin.
Did I fuck up? Played Parodius for a bit and was so awesome.
I don’t have the right mono<>stereo audio cables but putting together a few rca female<> males I managed to get mono audio out and was great
Hello! I am probably going to Japan this summer and I will be looking for an msx2/2+ while I’m there. If I don’t find one there I’ll order one online sometime. I’m curious if you guys have any game recommendations that won’t cost more than 120$ loose. I already plan on getting nemesis/gradius 2, Salamander, arkanoid revenge of doh (if I can find it), and hopefully parodius. I would like to have more recommendations so I know more games to look out for when I stop by BEEP. Simultaneous multiplayer games, platformers, shmups, and arcade games would be best appreciated.
Hi. I'm trying to figure out this problem. I created a cassette cable and plug in that into my Android device. I alwaya get "Device I/O error" when trying to load game from msx2cas.
Volume is critical. If its too low, nothing happens(not even the error). I have to turn volume as high as I can to get even the error.
I think I have connection correctly because the error happens when playing with volume.
Hello. I do not own an MSX. But I'm curious about the platform. Everywhere I look I see only games and people talk about games. But after all this is a machine with full-blown keyboard capable of doing other things too. So I got curious - MSX owners - besides gaming what were your other Top3 uses of an MSX in the 80s ? (and besides programming, as I'm sure many of you coded on it)
Did it had a modem? BBSes probably?
I unsuccessfully tried to find any non-game software for it. Noticed there is SimbOS. But still - did people used to create music or pictures or anything else?
Hi guys, I had this micro computer in my personal collection for over 20 years and lately have been starting to reduce my collection's size and I'm offering it for sale but can't find any relevant information interms of pricing, I know it's rare and my version is loos but is in perfect condition.
Back in the day I played a game on my families MSX2 where you drive a car and there’s a mobster hanging out of the window with a gun. You fire your weapon against other cars with mobsters firing at you. The controls were opposite, if you moved the car to the left and down the mobster would aim up and to the right.
Sounds familiar to anyone?
Issue 13 of Eight Bit is going to feature the MSX1. You can search for the magazine name on Kickstarter as I'm not sure if promotional links are allowed.
I want to ask you guys, which games would you consider to be some of the best for the MSX and why? The most popular will be featured on the magazine as well as the usual top games. Thanks.

I want to write a floppy with an.dksk image but i don't know how to search the file in my sd mapper, help wanted, thank you
So, I have two Spectravideo SV903's. I would like to use the other with MSX. Spectravideo has made an MSX compatible cassette deck in SVI767 which looks much similar.
There was a picture of the PCB of the SVI767 online so I compared it to my SV903 PCB and it look very similar too. I was wondering if I could just solder a cable for signals to MSX and add a 12VDC power supply connector to it.
The power connector looks simple enough to mod but I can't make out which signal from MSX should go where to the SV903 PCB. The picture online is from the bottom side of the PCB so I can't see where the signal cables go.
If anyone has a SVI767 who could open it and take a picture of the PCB where I could see where the cables go or if someone has actually done this already and could assist how to do it?
Since all other posts are in English, I will try to write it in English.
For those who don't know: The Zemmix was originally a clone console based on MSX-microcomputers made by the company Daewoo in Korea during the 1980's. Roughly five years ago, there was an remade mini version of this very console made in Korea with ten preloaded Zemmix or MSX games. I've read a few blog articles about it and the number of included games is low in comparision to other mini-console-remakes, it is still an interesting product to me. I would especially like to know more about the people who made it.
Does someone have it or is in contact with the manufacturers here?
Do you have any thoughts or other interesting information about this product?
By the way, since I can speak Korean, you could also provide Korean information about it if you want.
Hi, I recently got a an HB-F1XV from Japan and although sold as fully working (with proof), I fail to get it to boot. I'm trying to figure out first if I'm doing anything wrong (last time I used an MSX was 30 years ago).
I plugged it to a step-down converter to make sure (100v - I live in a 220v country).
When powering it up, the green POWER LED turns ons but that's it. No video signal (I tried with both the composite and RGB outputs). Pressing CAP or kana do not turn on their respective LED.
I've waited several minutes, still the same unresponsiveness.
When increasing the volume of the TV, I can hear a different "pitch" noise when I turn it on or off, so seems like something is happening somehow.
I tried to insert a floppy with a game on it, but nothing really different happens. It spins the floppy disk fine but that's it. CAP and kana are still not responsive.
Same with or without a cartridge.
Any thing else I should try? I read about capacitors, but the seller said he changed all capacitors already to make it "future proof". If I was to open it up to check his work in detail and eventually re-solder, which caps (or area) should I be looking out?
Thanks a bunch for your time!

Side note: I will be on a business trip to Vegas in a couple of weeks and can bring the computer along if anyone has a recommendation of a store or individual who could have a look.

How long does it usually take to get admin approval for an MSX.org user account? I registered for an account on Monday Feb 19 at around noon EST, and it said I can use the account once it's approved by an admin, and that I would get an email when that happens. It's been over 48 hours since I tried to register, but I haven't gotten the admin approval email yet. Is this normal? I understand the admins are human beings with personal lives and that it may take a while to notice the request, and that's perfectly fine if that's all it is, but it feels a little long at this point so I'm not sure if I should try registering again in case the request fell through, or if trying again will trigger a spam filter or something and make things worse. What do you guys think?
Hi, got a hb f1 and need to turn it on several times to get it to start, does anyone know what the fault could be? The led works but its triying to show image and need to turn off and on several times to show image, without cartridges do the same, japanese unit
For the last day or so, I've been trying to emulate Aleste 2 via BlueMSX with a TurboR machine. Disk 2 and 3 boot normally but trying disk 1 brings to the Disk Basic screen.
I don't really know basic and after looking through different commands I try booting it manually (RUN A, but it gives a type mismatch error).
I have no idea what I'm doing wrong and it feels like I've just been hitting my head against a wall for hours. If anyone can give any insight I'd greatly appreciate it.
